ESPN announced on its website Friday that it has suspended commentator Rob Parker, who questioned the “blackness” of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III while on the air a day earlier.
“Following yesterday’s comments, Rob Parker has been suspended until further notice,” spokesman Jos Krulewitz said in a statement. “We are conducting a full review.”
The spokesman made no further comment on the matter.
ESPN earlier quickly responded to the racially charged comments, calling them “inappropriate” and hinting the network may take some action against him.
“The comments were inappropriate and we are evaluating our next steps,” David Scott, ESPN’s director of communications, said on Twitter.
During a segment of ESPN’s “First Take” on Thursday, Parker said:
“Is he a brother, or is he a cornball brother?
“He’s not really. He’s black, he kind of does his thing, but he’s not really down with the cause. He’s not one of us. He’s kind of black, but he’s not really like the guy you really want to hang out with, because he’s off to something else.
“… I want to find about about him. I don’t know because I keep hearing these things. We all know he has a white fiancée, then there was all this talk about he’s a Republican. … I’m just trying to dig deeper into why he has an issue because we did find out with Tiger Woods — Tiger Woods was like ‘I have black skin but don’t call me black.’”
Parker’s comments came in the wake of remarks Griffin made after practice Wednesday — in response to reporters’ questions about race — and reported in USA Today:
“For me, you don’t ever want to be defined by the color of your skin. You want to be defined by your work ethic, the person that you are, your character, your personality. That’s what I’ve tried to go out and do.
“I am an African-American in America. That will never change. But I don’t have to be defined by that.”
Griffin’s father told USA Today that Parker “needs to define what ‘one of us’ is. That guy needs to define that. I wouldn’t say it’s racism. I would just say some people put things out there about people so they can stir things up,” Robert Griffin II said.
“Robert is in really good shape on who he is, where he needs to get to in order to seek the goals he has in life … so I don’t take offense.”
RGIII didn’t respond directly but he did tweet that “I’m thankful for a lot of things in life and one of those things is your support. Thank you.”

I happened to catch that segment yesterday. Parker was definitely out of line. Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith both tried to reel him in, but he wouldn’t back off. They spent a lot of time trying to get him to clarify the “cornball brother” comment. It ended with Smith telling Parker, pointedly, that “the barrber shop isn’t the only place where things are real.”

It’s middle school peer pressure hiding behind the color of a man’s skin. It is insisting that a man act, believe, speak, and support all that Parker thinks he should or he’s is going to be ostracized. It takes away the human dignity of what is obviously a smart, talented, and independent young man who could be a great leader and role model for people of his race and every race. Instead, Mr. Parker is attempting to marginalize that influence before it grows because he doesn’t approve of RGIII’s choices.
It’s a good thing that there’s not a position of Supreme Dictator. Mr. Parker would surely think himself qualified for the office and apply for the job.

If he were in the Atl,he would be worshipped by whites. They would admire this young man for his talents.
Black Atl on the other hand would call him a sellout.
He would make them feel very uncomfortable about themselves with the deep inferiority complex that plagues them.
They would spew hate at him.

Of course this isn’t getting much press because a black man said it and, in this twisted and backwards society, black people are somehow exempt from being racists….no matter how hateful and racist their words and actions may be. Also if a black person doesn’t do and act like what the majority of AAs think they should then he/she is a sellout or not “with us”. I’m so sick of watching black people oppress other AAs because they happen to act or think differently. The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

I wouldn’t call the guy a racist, but his comments were out of line, some things you only say to your friends as oppose to a “national audience”…idiot……Even if RG3 isn’t someone that you’d hang with because he isn’t your type doesn’t give you any reason to call him a cornball. He may view you/ me or any of us as a cornball….OK I will admit he is a little corny…
After hearing this guy speak during his Heisman speech…it just came to me RG3 is not the type of black QB that has swag or jazz that most black fans prefer to see in a QB (ie..MV7). This guy is just being himself while using his god given talent so we should take it for what it’s worth. I understand most of us may think he is lame or not hip due to the socks, his hairstyle, and personality…….
To sum it all up….RG3 is a black dude that probably hangs with mainly white guys, likes only white girls, and have the same interest as most white guys, and for this a lot of black guys give his **** for it and views him as a sell out.

Can’t we all just get along? Parker’s a blowhard, that’s obvious. But from his personal perspective….Certainly doesn’t make it right, but,…As far as sports in general=it’s a game. G-A-M=E, like monopoly or mumbledy-peg. Time to stop putting athletes on pedestals. RGIII and anyone else’s personal choices are theirs, but if I were to see a bluebird and a redbird living together I’d figure that not to be natural and that the world was out of whack, spinning off its magnetic poles or something and bound for outer space.

As for the cornball brother think that’s a northern thing with blacks up north, but I will say this I do understand where Rob Parker was coming from after come clarifying. Because he remembered how Tiger Woods did the black race basically being ashamed to be black, and we all know as much as people try to hide it the invisible 1% rule still remains.
Really I don’t know if I’d go so far to say sellout, but people like Parker thinks there is a slight chance he might be one.

I’m shocked that people are shocked by this guys comments. It’s the “crabs in a barrel” syndrome. This guy, like so many, have to find something to grab a hold of regarding RGIII to try to pull him back down into the barrel with the rest of the crabs. Unfortunately, it’s all too common and too typical. So far, it seems RGIII’s family raised him well by teaching him to have some character and independent thought to define himself and not let define who he must be.
As an adult, I have come to learn why my father called television “an idiot box” because you can hear the rambling a of idiots at any given time when you have the lights, camera, action of television.

Whites who refused to support “white” causes were intimidated, called names, and were called sellouts and race traders by the klan. Now, it appears the same burden is cast upon blacks to act a particular way by the black self imposed racial authority. RG3 is a post racial, and that scares the hell out of blacks who need the identy of being black in the racial sense. It is amazing how fear holds the ignorant back, and how they use racial tactics to try and prevent this change. Rg3 and the guy out in Seattle should be celebrated, not picked apart and judged.

Rob Parker is that idiot that said the Falcons didn’t deserve to win.against the Giants in the playoffs last year because Atlanta has sorry fans. He went on to mention the infamous Braves division playoff game where there were some empty seats in the upper deck. The same story ESPN glorifies from time to time (but they don’t mention the Yankees having whole sections empty in the upper deck during the playoffs this year!). In Rob’s article he went on to bash southern heritage and made some generic wise cracks that included sweet tea, front porches, peaches etc. He is a d-bag that is from Detroit and occasionally comes on First Take. Rob banks, break into apartments, steal cars, rape women, listen to hip-hop, eat hog maws and chitterlings instead of Subway, shack up with a black woman, father 20 children out of wedlock, lay up all day without a job and live off of his woman’s welfare check, become a Democrat and speak ebonics to prove he is black?

I wish the next time a reporter asked a black athlete about race, the athlete would just say next question. The reporter was setting this backlash up. Either he wanted to make RG3 seem too black for white to cheer for or he wanted him to seem not enough black for blacks to root for. It seems he achieved the latter. Causing Rob Parker to respond with stupidity. I wish someone would delve into what relevance the initial reporters question had as it relates to RG3 performance. I’m willing to bet everything i own that same reporter would not dare ask Andrew Luck a question about his “whiteness”. So again, I say whomever, this reporter works for should discipline him, unless they encourage this behavior. And if that be the case then black athletes should refrain from talking to that reporter.

All Rob Parker was saying is that RG3 is a white washed Swoogie like Tiger Woods. I guess it offends some of the “real” brothers if you don’t dance and do Super Man poses after each first down, have a stern looking scowl on your face in pictures, mumble and speak broken English and Ebonics at interviews and on Twitter, drive a car with 30″ chrome wheels, brag about having a gun, have tattoos on your neck and act like you want white people to like you and act like you like them. Rob Parker is a little weasel that works for ESPN…he’s the last person that you would consider “real” anything.

Thing is though Tiger Woods they way he said it for many folks is I HATE THIS RACE. Like please don’t ever call me black at all. I don’t have a problem with RG3 comments because it didn’t sound that way, but again Rob Parker he even said himself was raising a few red flags cause he though he might turn out like Tiger.
I do admit I have a problem if people say they legitimately hate their own race no matter what. Cause my response to them it’s not going anywhere so you might as well be proud of it.

Parker’s comments were dumb and he is guilty of stereotyping RGIII. The comment isn’t racist though. Some people like to through out that word without even knowing the difference between racism and prejudice. It’s great RGIII ignored him. People of all races in Washington D.C. root for the guy.

If me being black which I am said to someone of white, or other descent a question like that re-worded of course. I’d probably get the same level of backlash.
Same thing if some white says it.

Reporters will set you up quick if you are not quick on your feet. I was interviewed on TV here in Atlanta about the TSplost controversy some weeks back. We were against it because the Ga. DOT spends less than 2% of money with black contractors. So the reporter asked me on camera, “so this is about race for you then”. I responded, “no it’s about inclusion”. And wouldn’t you know they strategically edited that whole segment of the interview, so neither the question nor my answer appeared when they aired the interview later that night. The reporter was with WSB.

How many whites defended Rush’s comments about McNabb? Probably a similar percentage as the number of blacks defending this clown.
Just saying, stupidity is not limited to a single race and some of you folks on this blog need to wake up to that fact. The more you give your own race a pass while only criticizing others, the more negative crap will continue to happen in your life.

If one man wants other men to respect him, let that man work hard, be dilligent, honest, trustworthy, responsible, considerate, compassionate and humble. When they asked Lovie Smith how it felt to be the first black head coach to be in the super bowl, I longed to hear him say “well, i am a man and it feels great” or something to that effect. but he didn’t. RGIII is such a powerful leader that he is leaving all that behind. Morgan freeman said the way to stop racism is to stop talking about it. Many of us really need to understand what “racism” is and how it is defined before we claim a person has made a “racist” statement. The following is from Webster’s dictionary…
Racism – a doctrine that inheren differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior.
You might claim he is a bigot (i.e., intolerant of any creed, belief, or race other than his own), but I don’t see how anyone can claim he is racist, without outing themselves as ignorant.

As a black man, I find Parker’s comments to be ignorant and racist on par with some of the stupidity that has come out Rush’s mouth. RG3 is entitled to live his life on his own terms. I disagree with a lot of what Clarenence Thomas and Herman Cain say. I also disagree with a lot of what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson say. They just happen to black men who I disagree with. The Tiger Woods analogy is way out of line. What Tiger was attempting to say is that he is of two hertitages and did not want to overlook his mother’s lineage. Blacks got all out shape for that but I respect him for that. Parker is proof that for as far as we have come, we still have a long way to go. RG3 is proof that our future is bright!

They ridicule me, but I just keep loving them and I keep prospering. I gave up trying to be down with the cause some time ago because often it contradicted my belief system. Most people here dont really know what the term racist is. Rob is not a racist, but said some racial comments that were inappropriate.
Robert Griffin III, “I am an African-American in America. That will never change. But I don’t have to be defined by that.” WTH. He was born in Okinawa Island. He said exactly what MLK said. Be defined by the content of your character, not by the color of your skin. Parker is a racist and is calling out RG III because he wants to be a man first. It is always best to be the finest whatever you are first and then everything else comes after. With the racist attitude of Parker the US will never be totally united. With Parker if you are black you have to be a brother first and everything else doesn’t matter. Now ESPN has to be careful because if they take action against Parker they will certainly be labeled racist. Parker’s comments were inappropriate and totally wrong.

Rob Parker is a complete waste of a human being. This is the same man that trashed our city last year before the Falcons/Giants playoff game.
What exactly did RG3 say to offend Mr. Parker as a black man anyway? That he likes to work hard and earn the things given to him? That he wants to be recognized for who he is and what he accomplishes instead of by the way he looks? Aren’t these the things we all want for ourselves?
I guess Rob Parker isn’t satisfied with black athletes unless they’re out at clubs, getting drunk with two women on each arm every night. I’m sorry, but I think the celebrity world has enough of these kind of people from all races. It’s refreshing to see a young man who has his prioroties straight and wants to do things the right way.

“Poisonous snakes” can be black too! I do not understand why there is a perception that if you are a “black” person, you are expected to act, speak and/or dress a certain way. What’s even worse…a large number of people in the “black” community perpetuate this stereotypical perception by verbally “sand-blasting” those that do not fit the mold of the stereotypical “black” person in their ignorant minds, which Rob Parker has clearly demonstrated. As a Black man in America…I believe that each individual (black or white) is judged on his or her morals and actions, which determines each individual’s success or failure in achieving their goals in life. When will people realize that such stereotypical behavior is ignorant and stifling? RGIII is the kind of man our community should hold in high regard and present to our young males as a role model!

Parker’s comments are the beginning of the “Donavan McNabbing” of RGIII by the sportsworld.
Parker’s comments were his own personal prejudice shaped by his own worldview and experience which make it difficult for him to accept the young man beyond his abilities and talent on the football field. As a paid sports commentator he should keep his comments, assessments and views limited to the field of play. Besides Parker probably would not hang with people like Kaseem Reed, Colin Powell, Barack Obama, or Andrew Young either, as he would probably label them “cornball brothers” too.

Parker may have went over the line however I do question the mindset of successful black men who seem hellbent on being accepted by white America. OJ, Tiger Woods, Justice Thomas, etc. These guys don’t represent me. I never see them coming to the cause of black Americans. They marry outside their race, live in affluent white neighborhoods. Vote republican, everything that I find to be the opposite of the majority of black Americans. Just mess up one time and watch how the white media starts portraying you.

I’m Black. And I’m a native. These comments bothered me tremendously because as an African American woman who grew up on the West side of Atlanta in the slummiest of areas, I still wasn’t considered a “normal black person.” Why? I don’t steal, I don’t cheat, I respect syllables and I believe in sounding them out. Does that make me less Black?
I don’t think Rob’s comments were as blatantly racist as they were ignorant, but the generalization that all Black people should act the same way IS a racist statement. We live in America where we’re allowed to choose who we marry, which side of the political field we vote on, and how far we want to take our education. Get over it. I don’t expect us as Black people to get so lost in American society that we don’t know our history, but we ARE NOT ALL THE SAME. That’s the point here, and that’s OK. Who is this guy to question someone’s blackness? Stick to sports, dumb dumb.

Black men seem to have particular proclivities about themselves which defines if they are a ruffian, country boy, a slick fast talker, an upscale stylish fashion minded type or an intellectual, articulate, nerdy, corny type of brother. RGIII comes off as the latter, with superior athleticism, which apparently is the part that Rob Parker doesn’t understand because most nerds are not very athletic or socially adept as RGIII appears to be, which is what fosters this sort of resentment by Mr. Parker.
Parker is somewhat jealous because the popularity of an aforedescribed individual such as RGIII is, doesn’t usually happen in the way that it has and is taking place for RGIII. The only problem is that Mr. Parker was derelict in his attempt and intention to describe RGIII in the manner and fashion that I have and he has now caused himself great scrutiny and perhaps will lose some income, if not his job.

Come on guys…this is not racism, stupid and ignorant…ON EVERY level, but not exactly racist. Lets just put it straight, RG3…stand up guy, moving in the right direction progressively. Parker instead is caught in the “olden days.” There are black people who still hold on to the idea that Black people should act a certain way and do certain things to be classified as BLACK. But lets be honest here, there are white people who feel the same way. Its not racist…its the media portrayal, its the black stars, its the black role models…I was told by a WHITE girl that she didnt think I was black, even though I DONT pass the paper bag test. My skin is a chocolate brown, and she said I wasnt black because I wasnt ghetto. Did I think she was racist? No…did I think she was misinformed, HELL YES, and we had a good discussion that enlightened her. People tend to blow these stories up. Its NOT as big of a deal as everyone is making it…but Parker definitely needs some enlightenment. I dont want to live my life being “ghetto” so I can be classified as what my skin tone tells the world…period. RG3, you get my vote.

Definitely disturbing comments by Mr. Parker and he should know better, especially what minorities {not only AFrican Americans} have been through and continue to go through via hidden racism. Although I am not appauled, I am disappointed.
Now that I have that out of the way, it seems that MANY (definitely not every) cacusians are appauled by the very same thing they have done and continue to do, which is live and breathe hidden racism and bias behavior. Certainly I am not say that minorities are exemted because we certainly are not. I just think that no one should be critical if you have ever used racial tones.
What Mr. Parker said was public and I am sure meant no harm; at least he did not say it with a buch of buddies at the country club. Again, I am not condining what was said regarding RGIII.

Yes Rob is a blowhard just like the majority of these commentators.
However to be fair, if you really watched the show Rob was just expressing how the brothers in the barbershop felt and their perception of RGIII. They feel he is kind of going out of his way to distanced himself from being identified as an African-American. I don’t necessarily agree, but I understand their perspective._
It was an interesting topic for “First Take”. Too bad many people are afraid to discuss this type of subject. ESPN will probably reprimand Parker because of the backlash from a specific demographic.

Its not racism, its bigotry and ignorance, and many people including blacks have this characteristics. My co-worker married an Asian woman and he is black, guess who discriminates against this couple the most? If you said our black co-workers and the people in his community you get the trophy because they call her many derogatory names. Every Asian in the black community is Chinese regardless of their country of origin. Is that not what Parker did? Is that not what you are doing? We dont all grow up the same, look the same, act the same…its not what makes us black. The issue that Rob Parker has written, and contemplated in public, is not a sports-related topic. He is not a social scientist, anthropologist, or a psychologist. He is a sports writer. He and his “audience”, are largely ignorant and uneducated about the subject of race, culture, ethnicity, etc. To put a “black” position issue in front of a largely European audience is not trying to have your “is he Black or not” question answered, it was designed to cause controversy, nothing else. Rob Parker has ample opportunity to ask Griffin this question both off the record and in private conversation. Rob Parker’s issue is one of conformity: Do you carry yourself and make decisions based off of your background, culture, environment, and yes, how the world perceives your skin color, or do you just conform to the “majority” culture in order to get along and make everybody comfortable around you? See how I worded that question? Sadly, in this world, those without control of their own resources generally have to conform to an identity that is not their own. What if Tiger Woods showed up at his first PGA event with dreds, sandals, a dashiki and a kente cloth? Would it have been largely acceptable and made everyone comfortable? Nope. But he’s there to play golf, not to display Black pride. He is already doing that by simply being himself and playing his best golf. So I guess Parker would feel better if all Black QB’s did interviews wearing one Black glove….lol. If this is about being a proud Black man, then Griffin should not be playing football anyway; again, a seperate, and much deeper issue. So I’d like to thank idiots such as Rob Parker and Caroline Wozniaki for setting back race relations another 5 years by their sheer ignorance. I point those two out specifically because they both knew better

I believe that mr.parker being an older black man is not fully able to comprehend that things have changed dramatically for young whites and black regarding race, those like myself born in the late 80s have grown up with way less racism(even in atl) and have better outlooks on race than men of either race born before the 80’s. I dont think mr.parker like the fact that rg3 is getting so much love from the white community about his character and how much of a positive leader he is for his team and community. Mr.parker doesnt see the same love for cam newton or vick by whites as they do for rg3 and I dont think it has anything to do with rg3 having “white tendencies”, i think whites praise him because of his character, and work ethic and his ability, i believe the same is true for a lot of black people regarding their thoughts on rg3. I think your actions should define you just like rg3 said, who cares what color he is. One black man saying something ignorant should not be thought of as he is speaking for the black community, just a radical(IMO) perspective on a young man who is just being who he is.

The guy was completely out of line. Robert Griffin III is a professional football player. His job is to win games, not win anyone’s friendship. Since he’s a public figure he also has a responsibility to be some type of a role model/repectable person. So far, in his short career, he’s done both with class and excellence. To take it further than that and judge him by his choice in women, style, and personality is something you save for private conversation. Do you want him to be your BFF? Is he not cool enough to hang out with you? Who cares? I’m sure he doesn’t. The last time I checked having a college degree, a multi-million dollar job, and several endorsement deals, all before the age of 25 is enough to make that Black man cool to me.

Tom, no Dick, and Harry – Pardon me, but you are so full of s#@t and too ignorant to understand that Rob Parker was attacking RGIII on the basis that he is “too much” like whites with no idenity with the portion of the black community that are ghetto gangbangers, and “needy” looking for a government handout.
RGIII appears to exemplify the values an unfortunately significant “underclass” of the black community. Seek out the RGIIIs; Boisfeuillet Jones; Bill Cosbys; Denzel Washingtons: etc of the black community as role models, rather than the rabble rousing Al Sharptons; Jesse Jacksons; Maxine Waters; and far too many black entertainers that represent the worst of society rather than the aspirational opportunities available in this nation.

Rob Parker comments are definetly out of line. But the thing I think he was trying to say is with Tiger Woods the entire black community was so proud of Tiger being the 1st black golfer etc; but Tiger didn’t want to identify with being black unless the person was of celebrity status (Michael Jordan etc). He married white & was totally embraced by the Media & White Society until he stepped out of line & cheated on his wife. Then the media turned against him & painted him on the cover of TIME magazine as a very dark African-American (which for some reason supposed to depict an Angry, Menancing Black Man). Same depiction as OJ Simpson. Too many times we African-Americans try to look for hero’s of our community. But look to GOD. Don’t put too much emphasis, hope of an entire community or nationality on (1) person. Let that person be him or her self; whatever they want to be without their race being the determining factor.

I’d respectfully disagree with RGIII on this one point: “I am an African-American in America…”
I see RGIII as simply an American, period, who btw happens to be a black guy! And the black guy part is irrelevant to me (He moves so fast around the field you can’t tell what he looks like anyway). No divisions, no focus groups. When we, if we, all can ever get to this place in America, then we will have captured a tiny portion of the DREAM MLK envisioned. The VISION that our forebearers hoped for. Come on everbody, we got work to do!
That we are not nearly there after 50 years of this crap is the sad tragedy of this story. Rather, we have digressed into something as ugly as this moron’s comments on ESPNY.
Well, that my opinion, and it should be everbody’s.

I heard the comments last night on the radio and Parker is an absolute moron and has been for a long time. This is the same NY beat writer that said Atlanta does not deserve to have a Championship team because the fans don’t support the teams and then went on to find as many excuses as he could to justify the empty seats at Yankee stadium during the playoffs. I think what he was alluding to with his comments is that RGIII is intelligent and therefor isn’t really “black”. Evidently in his little brain to be “Black” you have to be an uneducated thug and keep it real. It’s amazing that he has a job.

I don’t have a problem with the comments that Rob Parker made. I actually watch and enjoy the show. I think he was spot on with his comments!!ALL BLACK athletes stand on the shoulders of men like Earl Lloyd, Willie O’Ree, Fritz Pollard, Bobby Marshall, and Jackie Robinson. Men who went thru hell just to be a part of their respective sports. Men who stood up for civil rights men who believed in the black community. Who were not afraid to say they were proud to be black. These new age black athletes are married to white women, do very little in the black community, and hide behind their foundation! What did Tiger say? Don’t call me black, I am not black! Ask them the last time they visited a housing project in Harlem, The south side of Chicago, or Watts? Just spent some time talking with kids showing black folks they haven’t forgotten about them.
One greatest thing of my young life was spending 10 minutes talking to Walter Payton about school and football. It really changed my view on things/life. I understand our white friends and others don’t understand the black dynamic of “each one teach one”. I respect the fact that some may think some black folks are tearing him down. What EVERYONE needs to understand is by and large black folks don’t want your money brother, we not telling you who you should marry, we want your leadership, we need your positive presence in our communities, we need you to be a trailblazers like Kurt Flood, Ali, Kareem, and Jim Brown. Rob Parker was just openly asking what has been whispered even before RGIII made it to the NFL, brother who are you?

Let’s all make Charlie Manson a prophet, because he predicted back around 1969 that there would be a war between “blackie and whitie,” and “blackie” would win. He than went on to say that “blackie” would be too stupid to run the country, so they would free Charlie so he could run it for them. Looks like his prediction of a war was witnessed on ESPN. Kinda like thinking the wood is solid, but chip off a piece of paint and find a nest of termites under the surface; but Charlie saw it coming … 45 years ago.

The “giving back” myth is the liberal propoganda that continues to be perpetuated. Funny, when i was on I-285 this morning I didnt pass the “Black Community” exit. Moreover, I can’t “give” anything back to the Black community because I never took anything from it. How is it that we give people like gangs/drug dealers that “take” from the community a pass but knock upstanding brothers.
The only thing people should “take” from RGIII are the qualities he exemplifies; faith, leadership, diligence and honor. It shouldn’t be packaged any other way.

There is a double standard in this country as to commenting on racial issues and everyone knows it. White on black fired on the spot. Black on white gets a pass. Black on black gets a pass. The racial issues in this country are 90% initated by blacks. The whites have been trained not to open their mouths or they will be called down instantly. Racial issues only run in one direction that has been decided by the liberial PC agenda. Blacks don’t have racial issues HA! HA! only white Republicans. There are 8 differences in black American culture, light skin, dark skin, rich, poor , educated, uneducated, common sense, uncommon sense, each one has a tree of definitions, and each
of them are associated, it comes down to a whats your make up, In RG3 case this gent has two major degrees, and finish college early, won a Hesiman, from a miltary upbringing, lets touch on this,
structure, discipline, attention to detail, of course athlectics, seems like an american up bringing, The problem is that because of differences, in up bringing, becauses of choices, the different dreams, the hard life vs the protected life, what you chose is different than being chosen,, education puts you in a difffernt mind set, Herm Edwards sd a football life is 3yrs some make it to 5 and at 30 its becomes a problem, when you notice RG3 he is a differentn person than what you want, but again its what you want, not who he is, if you gave all of your money away by helping people, you will be broke, his mind and future appear to way different than yours, that brings me all the way back,,,

Rob Parker is black, and that’s what makes it more terrible. It’s 2012, and we should be past this. This is more of an age thing than a color thing because younger adults of all races don’t live in a blatantly racist society unless it’s taught to them as acceptable behavior. It’s not something that they live with like people did in the 50s and 60s. So, they they have a better understanding of who they are as people, not based on what they look like. Appearances mean more to the older generation.

If anyone here has ever taken a diversity class at an institution of higher learning , they will most LIKELY learn that only the racial/ethnic group who is in power is able to make racial comments. I took exception to what Parker says for three reasons : 1. I have been a Redskin for THIRTY-TWO years and we have been without a franchise quarterback, and was thrilled we drafted RG3. He is every bit as advertised and is an outstanding role model for today’s youngsters (something sorely needed in a league where player arrests out-strips the general population THREE TO ONE on a per capita basis) 2. At a time when people of color are beginning to gain a viable foothold in leadership ,here is this demagogue who seeks to confines AfricanAmericans to a ghetto persona when in fact the most respected leaders of that herotage are anything but. I guess he is stuck in the early 1960s and has no appreciation or understanding of what GREAT BLACK leaders have done for ALL people, chief among them Thurgood Marshall, MLK,Jr. and Barack Obama. He is an ignorant person of the same ilk as Don Imus. 3. The exec producer of the show approved his characterization prior to the airing of that program , and subsequent to that airing he was congratulated by someone else calling that particular segment ” Emmy winning” and “great stuff”. It was all choreographed and approved by teh controverst machine that is the ESPN family of networks. HAIL TO RG3 ! HAIL TO THE REDSKINS ! That is ALL. Good day.

He just kinda does his thing…………last time I checked, that was called FREEDOM in this country. People of all races are afforded the same opportunity in America, some take advantage of it, some just sit on their ass & do nothing. The one thing all self-made millionaires have in common….motivation! Martin Luther King Jr was Republican, but most blacks don’t want to discuss that at all. The democrats want to keep all blacks in their party, like it is a plantation & they can’t leave it & become successful individuals. I think it’s great when anyone who works hard is rewarded for their hard work & dedication. RGIII has worked hard for everything he has, no one gave him ANYTHING, he earned it. If the remarks made by this guy are not racist, the sky is not blue! If RGIII is Republican, that’s his choice, deal with it! @Dawg Talk –
You are right. Unfortunately, FREEDOM is only a one-way street for many of the so-called “activists” in the African American community. President Obama faced the same criticism when he first came out as a viable candidate for the presidency. To those “activists,” a black man must look, act, and behave a certain way in order to have any credibility. There is a whole cottage industry of “activists” and race-baiters–Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, and others–whose entire career is based on finding and creating racial tension in this country and mock African Americans who might not fit what their definition of what a black man/woman should be.
I’m an ESPN fanatic and have never heard of Rob Parker, so I guess he’s trying to both gain credibility with those race-baiters and add a little notoriety to his own name. I wouldn’t worry if I were Mr. Parker though. I’m sure he could always move from ESPN to MSNBC (or even NBC) and be applauded by his colleagues for spreading his vitriol, but I digress…

Many people are NOT Democrats for reason as simple as they are Christians and WANT this nation to remain dedicated to God and to do His will or dont agree with abortion for birth control or marriage is to be between a man and a woman or they dont believe in HUGE govt….Parker is saying NOTHING ELSE matters and a black person MUST be Democrat or they are looked down upon?! Parker is the one who should be looked down upon for his NARROW RACIST MIND!
Bye bye Parker….glad you exposed your RACIST self and your agenda. A hater. A divider. POISON to America. Racist. Shameful american who should not be in sports but hanging out with the Black Panthers or someting. Another divisive and violent racist group….

Parker is an idiot. Here RGIII says something that sounds remarkably like something Dr. King would say (or did say) and this bozo says he is not black enough! Maybe Parker and anyone who agrees with him should reevaluate the meaning of the word ‘racist’. Hats off to RGIII for being a kick-ass athlete and a respectable person.

The black leadership in this country used to want equality and a fair opportunity and they were right for fighting for that because things were not fair. Things changed for the good and in this century and decade there have been so many black people that have achieved success. It is out there for the taking IF its taken. There is no excuse. We cannot help those that will not help themselves. Plain and simple. Individulas are responsible for their lives. They need to decide to get out of their circimstance by education and hard work like the rest of us. They can be a Democrat, Republican, whatever they want. To say they betrayed their “people” because they are Republican or have a white fiance is so wrong on so many levels…does Parker have a problem with inter-racial marriage also? Well he needs to get the heck out of sports because at least half the black men do have white girlfriends and wives! What is this guys deal? He is TOO POLITICAL. TOO RACISTS. HE IS THE PROBLEM WITH NATION. HIM AND PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MENTALITY….WHATS HIS FIGHT? DOWN WIT HTHE WHITE MAN? ENOUGH IS NEVER ENOUGH? WHATS HIS CAUSE? WHAT ABOUT LOVE FOR ALL AMERICANS? EQUALITY? LETS ALL GET ALONG….HE JUST WANTS A FIGHT AND LIVES IN A BOX…..COME INTO THE 21ST CENTURY PARKER, THE 1970′S ARE LONG GONE…..WE ALL AHVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITY AND MOST COME FROM LOW INCOME OR MODEST UPBRINGING WHAT PATH WE TAKE DECIDES OUR FUTURE….STAY IN SCHOOL OR DROP OUT? WORK OR HANG OUT IN THE HOOD? GET A SKILL OR DEAL DRUGS OR STEAL? ITS THE DECISION ALL PEOPLE MUST MAKE….YOU NEED ROLE MODELS IN THE HOOD, NOT POLITICAL FIGHTS! WORK, LEARN, EARN, DETERMINATION…..PARKER IS STILL WANTING SOMETHING FOR NOTHING FOR THOSE WHO OTHERWISE WONT DO THE THINGS NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN THIS NATION….HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND SO SHOULD THOSE THAT THINK LIKE HIM! WE SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF HIM AND SO SHOULD THOSE WHO RAISED HIM….HE NEEDS TO GET OUT THE DARK AGES….AND STOP DIVIDING THIS NATION….IS HE AFRAID THAT HANDOUTS MIGHT BE CUT BACK TO THOSE WHO DONT WANNA WORK HARD OR DO WHATS NEEDED? DO YOU KNOW THERE IS SO MANY HANDOUTS NOW THAT IF YOU MAKE 29,000 AND HAVE A COUPLE KIDS AND WANT TO DO THINGS SO YOU CAN MAKE ANYMORE THAT ITS NOT WORTH YOUR WHILE TO TAKE A JOB THAT MAKES 59,000 ! BECAUSE YOU WILL LOSE SO MUCH IN HANDOUTS YOU ARE BETTER OFF EARNING 29,000 AND LET THE REST OF THE TAXPAYERS PAY HALF OF YOUR EXISTENCE! NOT AN INCENTIVE TO GET HIGHER PAY IS IT?! THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE LIKE PARKER HAS DONE TO THIS NATION…TAKE FROM THOSE WHO DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO INSTEAD OF SELF-RELIANCE AND IMPROVEMENT! NOW YOU ARE PENALIZED IF YOU GO FROM 29,000 TO 55,000 IF YOU HAVE A COUPLE KIDS…SO WHO IS GONNA LOSE THEIR FREE BENEFITS WHEN TAXPAYERS WILL DOUBLE WHAT YOU NOW MAKE FOR FREE?!!!! AND PARKER JUST WANTS MORE…..I KNOW PLENTY OF MINORITIES THAT ARE REPUBLICANS PARKER….THEY HAVE MORE VALUES THAN THEIR SKIN COLOR ONLY. LIKE YOU. YOU RACIST.

Hey mister over-much righteous Chicagotoatlanta: I lived in the Chicago area for several years in the 80s, and I can match the racist attitudes I saw up there with anything you have seen in the south. Racism exists in the heart, not just a geographic area.
So don’t hand me this idea that people from the south are more racist. They are no different up there.

“If you are an intelligent, well spoken and successful black person in America these days you are not down with the cause? What the hell does that even mean?”
MLK, Malcolm, Barack, ………..the list goes on. Are down with the cause and they meet the criteria you listed. The cause is being proud to be black, nothing more, nothing less. I think RGIII is black, nothng more, nothing less. However, if you’re a black man living in America, you may not agree with Mr. Parker, but you sure understand what he means. There is nothing racist about his comments, perhaps you should seek to understand the meaning of that word.

Steven said to Rob, I am uncomfortable with this conversation and big mouth with no brain kept spouting off. Hey Rob what Steven realize what you didn’t realize was that you were not in a barbershop you were on National TV. What’s said in a barbershop stays in a barbershop. What you said about RG3 could be said about you look at the way you dress you are a Cornball brotha to me and i’ve never heard that term before and I have been a Black man all of my life. what nonsense. Furthermore what you said was inapporpriate for the audience you were in front of. You should be fired for being so stupid. That is a conversation you keep within in the family.

Exactly.the problem in race relations….let me ask any one of you…if you owned a business, would you hire someone in front of you dressed up in the ” hood costume” ..hat on sideways, pants hanging down to the bottom of you ass, bling, gold grills, dreads…etc. c’mon…just look at this idiot and he would be out the door! Or would he…. Oops, based on these comments, it’s all racist if you don’t hire this clown! C’mon, guys…you are what you want people to perceive you to be….
I’ll hire any candidate, I’ve just hired 28 new recruits since April…if they open their mouth and I can’t understand them or if they can’t articulate themselves, it doesn’t matter if they’re black white pink or purple, and you look like that….just ain’t happening….

Ok….let’s get past all the generalities and challenge Parker to produce specifics.
To Parker:
Name five things that RG3 should be doing that he is not that would make him more acceptable to you.
Name five things is doing that he should stop doing that would make him more acceptable to you.
Those lists from Parker would really liven the conversation.

Rob should not have been suspended for what he said if you read what he said . The problem is none of us know how to handel others and our selves when we are talking about a black person that does not talk, and act BLACK what ever that is. Tiger Woods,LeBron James,Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson ,Condalisa Rice Collen Powell and many others don’t act BLACK and what does being a republican have to do with race ? As you can see this race thing is really crazy. I am from the HOOD but I am not HOOD so what does that mean do you see what I am saying. If a black person is not angery and showing it does this not make them black enough.

Let’s take in another step feather .What about mixed people where do they fit in what are they are they black or are they white and who is making the rules? Eduication, eduication, eduication is really the key. I know that there are a lot of eduicated fools out here. But the more people who go to school and finish will be able to look pass this color issue. I am a older black man I have seen real racism in all forms and there are many . Black people need to defind what, and who we are or should I say re defind who,and what we are. There was a time when we knew this. But here is where the problem started eduication believe it or not. We were taught in school by whites who we were and that is where the problem is today.

@ vote for obama cause he’s black. What blacks do you know with an inferiority complex? I know where I come from,I know that Cleopatra was black,Madonna was black,Abraham,Adam,Eve,Moses,& the so-called son of God Jesus Christ was black therefore making God himself black,I know I am the dominate ,the first, the original, all other beings come from me,& if merged all other beings become me for my genes are the most superior.
Unlike the caucasoid whom has the mostly inferior genetical makeup of all human beings, which is why the aforementioned comments about the earlier blacks were relevant in the first place.Throughout history all people of relevant importancve ,thru imagery of cinematic structures are all portrayed as white figures, the visual of this still which keeps racism & reverse racism going, you said it yourself out of correct ignorance, even though I know the truth it’s alot of people that have fallen for the staged tricks, which all are employed for the preservation of the white race.

its a shame how we are still stuck on racism….what difference does it make if you are black, white, brown, or tan…if we all treat people the way we want to be treated…. than AMERICA will be back to where it use to be…what a shame to waste time and effort on things based on color…what happend to our values as AMERICANS? i am an afrian-american and i was raised not to see color…respect is not given it is earned regardless of your color…lets get back to our core value and realize that america is the greatest melting pot of races in the world…what a shame that we have not progressed as a nation over RACIAL BARRIERS

I watched this segment the other day on ESPN.It really upset me when this cornball(Parker)made this idiotic statement. I am an african-american male it just baffles me that he would open up his mouth and say these type of remarks. The more and more he spoke on this topic i kept shaking my head his disbelief. Eventhough things are not like they use to be blacks as a whole still have to worry about others trying to talk about them and bring them down….but to have someone of your same ethnic background to do it is a disgrace. I most say that i commend Stephen A. Smith for the outstanding remarks he made concerning this topic. To Mr.Parker…like they use to say….check yourself before u wreck yourself!

A must read, “Living Color: The Biological and Social Meaning of Skin Color. by Nina G. Jablonski. This a remakable eye opener. Without spoiling the books contents for you; there is a heart wrenching segment in the book about Japanese women applying posinous concoctions to their skin to appear more white and the affects this process had on their overall health. Also, in South Afirca during apartheid darker skin black women applied skin bleachers to their skin so they could be classified as colored thereby placing them higher on the rigid social strata, thus qualifying for better jobs.

African Chieftans dragged enemy villagers to the coast from the hinterland for the Arabs to sell and until blacks finally grasp that fact, none of this issue will matter.
Republicans freed them with the Emancipation Proclamation and MUSLMS sold them into slavery.
None of this “news” matters till they grapple with these hard facts.

You have plenty RG3 who dont stand for anything MJ, Tiger, until something happens then they call Al, Jessie, they dont became black until all the money is gone and the white women who is along with them for the ride is gone.
There are so many out of touch blacks who play balls, and thinks white society care about them as a person, when are they going to understand they are only viewed as entertainment in most white eyes.
