Report: Cleveland Browns may lure Saban back to NFL

Alabama’s Nick Saban could become the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns, the Boston Globe is reporting.

It’s far from a done deal, and a number of pieces would have to fall into place, but the Globe said on Monday that if the Browns hire Michael Lombardi as general manager as rumored, the door could be open to bringing in Saban as head coach. Saban and Lombardi, who is currently an analyst for the NFL Network, worked together for the Cleveland Browns in the early ’90s, where Saban was defensive coordinator and Lombardi was player personnel director.

According to the Globe, “Saban has let it be known that if he returns to the NFL — where he flopped, going 15-17 with the Dolphins from 2005-06 — it would likely be with Lombardi playing Scott Pioli to his Bill Belichick.” Pioli and Belichick are the GM-coach tandem who created a New England Patriots dynasty.

The Browns are suffering through another woeful season at 5-8 and have had only two winning seasons since 1999.

Owner Jimmy Haslam might have more than one reason for luring Saban to the NFL: He’s a prominent University of Tennessee booster, and the Vols are 0-6 against Saban’s Alabama teams.

For his part, Saban has already won two national championships at Alabama (and one at LSU) and will be going for another one on Jan. 7 against Notre Dame. With no mountains left to climb in the college game, could Saban be looking for another shot at the NFL?

Nick will not be returning to the NFL. With that said Nick has made it clear when it gets to the point that he/team can’t meet the expectations and winning is no longer any fun then it just might be time to call it a career. Now this is closer than many understand. The play of Alabama vs LSU and A&M showed a team that was afraid to lose instead of a team that was trying to win. The loss to A&M was a good thing and may have given the team the spark to beat UGA. When you have won 60 games and lost only 7 in 5 years then winning is the only thing that matters. That is strong by any standards. If Bama were to lose to ND then a complete meltdown will happen by the Bama fans but not me. I was 9 when I saw my 1st Bama game in 1959 so I have seen the great Coach Bryant years. I have enjoyed the rebuild of the program by Nick and I enjoy them one game at a time now. Nick is a little older and hopefully he’s enjoying his own success more than in his younger days. Roll Tide

Unless he is moving into phase in his life for preparing for retirement, Coach Saban will not take the Cleveland job. Of course, Mr. Haslam has enough money to lure him to NFL if he wants inflated current salary with guarantee of ownership shares (which just “may” increase in value in few years).

Without major overhaul and the time it takes to implement changes and grow, the Browns will be a 5 to 7 win team for foreseeable future. Not a winning organization any time soon.

That is what I thougy. The good news is you have 30 commits and you’re still 6 slots below Alabama (19) in the recruiting rankings. It appeas on poll jumper Mark has to sign many 3 stars in order to get enough people to have practice. UGA….1980 and one old dusty trophy. You can’t make this stuff up you know.

Lots of logical reasons for Saban staying at Bama cited here. But the two reasons he will return to the NFL, maybe next year, maybe the year after, are more important: pride and ego. They are what make him such a good recruiter and coach. Nick isn’t the sort of man who can live with failure (Miami 2005-2006). After this year he’ll have 4 BCS championships. Nothing more to accomplish.

Sooner or later some reporter is going to ask him about the rumors. If he answers, “I will not be the coach in Cleveland next year”, that’s the sign he’s leaving.

Don’t do it Nick! You can’t handle the constraints of the pro game. In college you can recruit whomever you want regardless of who you already have. You can also pick your first four opponents. You can’t do that in the NFL! That is why successful college coaches aren’t successful in the NFL. The NFL has the the draft, the salary cap and predetermined schedules. Most college coaches fail to make the adjustment.

I don’t know that money is an object in and of itself to guys like Saban other than a score keeping mechanism. The challenge of being one of the very few guys who is able to transfer excellence to the NFL from college might entice him. Aside from J Johnson and perhaps Pete Carroll I cannot think of anyone who has made it happen. You cannot out recruit anyone and you cannot threaten people with stripping them of the scholarship. Someone who mentioned above that he would not have to work as much in the NFL has it backward. On the other hand, he does have experience there so he would not be going in blind. You have to marvel at what he has created at Bama. I would love to see a storied franchise like the Browns be resurrected by someone. The run on purple Kool-Aid and rat poison in Alabama that his leaving would create would be a real shot in the arm for the economy. I don’t see this happening but it would be great theater. I’m sure Gov Bentley would offer one of his kidneys and a grand child or two in sacrifice to prevent it.

Alabama has an obsession with college football and it goes back to the fact that Alabama has an inferiority complex dating back many years. Alabama football has been very successful and that is what they hang their hats on. Look at Alabama, it has not progressed as well as some of its Southern neighbors. It does not have pro sports as does Florida, Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. It has a much smaller population and its inward migration has not kept pace.

Also, what da hayell in cold, dreary Cleveland could possibly lure him there? That team won’t sniff the playoffs for another 20 years or more.

I guess if you can’t criticize the program’s success rate, your only option is to mock the fan base. It’s okay, though, children – the Crimson Tide is used to having haters. It’s a natural byproduct of being a football dynasty.

Leaving Tuscaloosa for Cleveland? Hmmm, well, not much difference as far as lifestyle is concerned there. I see Saban using this to leverage more money from UA. The NFL is a different animal. Its not just about how well you coach, or how analytical you are when it comes to offense/defense. It has a lot to do with player relations, and how you deal with egocentric, spoiled millionaires who don’t want your play calling interfering with their sportscenter moments. Saban didn’t fair well in the corporate world of the NFL before, so not sure why he would want to head back (unless of course they give him a stake ownership in the team). Of course, UA could rename the school the University of Saban @Alabama. that might keep him

Wow !!! Cant believe how arogant/ignorant the BAMA fans are. All the trailer parks and big boosters couldnt stop Saban from leaving BAMA to satisfy his ego of winning in the NFL. Saban has coached in the NFL before and he’s going to draft his own players to set the stage to win in Cleveland. He’s God in BAMA and he makes the moves that he wants to make. The Bama’s don’t control him he controls them! Wow!! BAMA back on knees again! LMAO!!! BAMA’s !!!

Keep wishing...

Bama has already had 3 AU coachs, 3 UT coaches and 2 Gator coaches. Also several hot-seat years for Richt. He’s on the verge of greatness and can make whatever he wants at Bama. He will likely have 5 or 6 NCs before he handsoff to Kirby. But keep wishing. LOL

Oh yeah I live in Philly and no difference perception of Georgia and Alabama trailer park %s and you Georgia boys look pretty stupid trying to make your sister state look that way.

First of all, I don’t think money is a major driving force for Coach Saban. However, pride is. A famous quote comes to mind: “When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquere.” What more does he have to prove in the college world? He returned a college football powerhouse back to the top of the mountain and has kept it there for multiple years. This combined with his understandable ego would make me think that he would relish the thought of doing the same thing with an NFL team…

That being said, he is a very intellegent man and he has to know that his brand of football will not work in the NFL. He saw a glimpse of this at Miami, The NFL is all about the players, not the teams or the coaches. In Alabama, he talks about the “program” and it works EXTREMELY well where he has complete control. In the NFL, he will never have complete control and that will keep him from effectivly installing the “program” and enjoying the same success as he has in the College world.

So I guess the question is which is greater: Saban’s intellect or his ego? Only time will tell…

Dawg whisperer,

Its sad to see dawg fans like yourself reduced to the point of wishfull thinking that if Saban would just leave Alabama. Not just sad but pathetic and the fact that you show it so openly speaks volumes about your inferiority complex relative to the Alabama tradition.

We’ve been hearing this crap for 6 years now and in the meantime Saban has had no interest in pro openings like the Steelers and Cowboys yet all of a sudden he would be interested in the lowly browns? You gotta be kidding. That’s just somebody in New England trying to sell newspapers. Saban will be leaving soon anyway. My prediction is that he leaves in 3-5 years not to go somewhere but simply to retire.

When you’ve won so many national championships it eventually gets boring. Not that you dawg fans would know anything about winning national championships of course.

CNS is a smart guy… Strong just got a $4MM per year deal @ Louisville… He’ll leverage a massive offer from the Browns into an even better deal from Alabama and extend it out to 5 years.

He’s sitting pretty in Tuscaloosa and I think he has learned his lesson about the pro game. Not to mention, you are leaving the South for Cleveland. Not a bad place in the summer – but the winter is awful and that’s being ‘kind’.

“That being said, he is a very intellegent man and he has to know that his brand of football will not work in the NFL.”

Not quite. Miami was about the worst team or one of the worst teams in pro football when Saban got there. The first year is always a transition year. The 2nd year he had the Dolphins on a 6 game winning streak when the news broke that Alabama was pursuing him. The team then melted down and dropped its last 4 in the wake of the news. He finished just below .500 at 15-17. Considering how bad the Dolphins were when he took over and the slide that took place when that Bama news broke that’s not bad.

Look, like Spurrier and Petrino, Saban has tried his ’style’ of coaching in the NFL and found that grown men, particularly those making a gazillion dollars a year, with an ego, at least as large as theirs, and with a union, as well as no fear of losing their scholarship, just don’t respond the same way as 18 and 19 year-olds to fear and intimidation. Now I know that a few more National Championships might have fogged his memory, and, with enough money, one can live well in Cleveland just as they do in Alabama, but they won’t have folks falling all over themselves to kiss their butts just to show em how much they’re loved. He’ll stay put.

I’ve always said that retirement would be the only thing to lure Saban away from Alabama, but if he is going to take another shot at the NFL it seems like this would be the time to do it, especially if Bama crushes Notre Dame in a few weeks. His wife hated the media and the atmosphere at his last NFL job and said she much preferred the college vibe, but apparently she has made comments recently about the weight of expectations that come with each game now.

Also, continue to make snide comments about education and infrastructure in Alabama if you wish. I’ve lived in Georgia for 6 years now, and I’ve noticed that you all seem to have this misplaced sense of superiority when it comes to your standing among Southern states. News flash: you’re not so great. Nothing wrong with the state, but if you’re going to rag on your neighbors like that then I feel the need to inform you of your own shortcomings.

Also, please stop sounding foolish by questioning Saban’s character. The talking heads hate him because he doesn’t answer their questions in a way that they consider satisfactory and because he had the audacity to actually LEAVE the NFL for a college job. (gasp!) In reality, Saban has never been connected to any major scandal. The textbook thing at Bama was the closest thing, and that started under Shula. Once Saban found out about it, he immediately alerted their compliance officer, and because the school was forthright about the whole situation, the NCAA was lenient (a lesson many schools seem to have trouble grasping). Prior to Miami, nobody had any problems with the way he left any of his jobs. Yes, he left the Dolphins before his contract was up, but in this day and age who actually waits for their contract to expire? That’s why buyouts are written in. At least he had the courtesy to finish out the season unlike Petrino. Yes, he said he wasn’t taking the Alabama job with a few games left, but the media was hounding him and he just wanted them to drop it until they had finished the season. If anything, he was trying to keep his team from being distracted.

If you Bama fans think he is going to stay there forever you’re crazy. This will be his 4th BCS title at 2 different schools and Bama has already built a statue of him. What else does he need to accomplish in college? As far as I know there is only 2 coaches with a college national championship and a Lombardi trophy and that’s Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer. I think Saban wants to be the 3rd and with his ego he is not going to let his only try in the NFL be a flop like it was in Miami. I think he goes.

Tide Rising, I honestly don’t care if Saban stays or goes, and you know I am a fan of your coach.

He couldn’t work for Jerry Jones, ever. Cowboy Sadium ain’t even big enough for those two egos. And why would the Steelers want him – they already lead the NFL in Super Bowls.

But a franchise that has never even been to the SB, might be iterested enough to offer him partial ownership, and total control.

I mean if Bama wins this BCS Title – that’s a record 3 in 4 years, 4 total. The only other record to break would be Bear Bryant’s 6 (?) Titles.

That may be his ultimate goal, but even so, he would have to listen to a deal that could make him 5-times richer with just the stroke of a pen.

You people don’t understand what Nick told you about the NFL. He said you can’t outwork the other teams even if you’re working 24/7/365 and the cap and the players are the real deal. Nick Saban is a not the greatest coach in college football but he is a great recruiter and tireless worker and that is what make him a success. He doesn’t out coach teams but his team will be stronger, more disciplined, and have as much if no more talent that yours. Story is you might get to bash Nick again around NSD when the QB Mcleod is asked to greyshirt. That should make for some interesting reading for you bashers. of course Mark is signing 45 this year due to all the drugs, arrest, and other yearly house cleaing at UGA but of course that is ok a Moral U at Athens. At 62 I have seen the great years and unlike the Coach Bryant years where we thought that would never end this great run will end. I don’t think Nick will return to pro football again period. I worry more about the fact the pressure to win each and every game is wearing on him,the staff, and the players to the point where they’re not having any fun having success. That is sad. As Lou Holtz said about Bama/Nick…when winning is just relief and losing is a complete meltdown then you need to address your priorities a little. Bama is a better team than both A&M and LSU but we played not to lose instead of playing to attack and win.

ESPN and some others have this Brown thing in the media so Nick will need to address since recruits will be asking as prompted by other college coaches. Bama is on the verge of hitting another homerun with the current class. Nick has about 5 more years before the recruits will hear that Nick will not be their coach for they’re entire stay at Bama just like Coach Bryant did his last years.

Starving Alabama Teacher

Teachers in Alabama haven’t had a raise in 5 years. Last year they were given a 2 1/2 percent pay cut. The uneducated rednecks of this state base their entire self esteem on Alabama’s football record. There is nothing else to be proud of. Its a wasteland of trailer parks and Camaros.

Dumb move for the Browns if it happens, though it’d be par for the course. The average lifespan of a Browns’ head coach and front office since the NFL awarded them this sorry excuse of an expansion franchise is 2.7 years (Holmgren lasted 2.5). The Browns are actually starting to look good under Shurmur (three game winning streak – longer than the Falcs if you can believe that) with big pieces Holmgren brought in this year’s draft (offense – T-Rich, Weeden, Schwartz at RT, Josh Gordon) and last year’s draft (defense: Jabaal Sheard, Phil Taylor, Buster Skrine) – and now the Browns are going to wipe all that away and make these kids start over.

Nicktator already had his shot in the NFL and screwed the pooch in almost Petrinoesque fashion. He’s a great college coach and should just stay where he’s is (how many guys have had egos big enough for them to think they could hack it in the pros, only to get chewed up and spit back out? Nictator, Spurrier, Petrino, in basketball Pitino, Calipari . . . )

And Jimmy Haslem shouldn’t be so short sighted already. Enough turnover already – although the biggest problem with Haslem is he’s spent the last several years being a minority owner of the Steelers and not having any clue about how bad all this constant turnover with the Browns actually has been.

Anyway, just say no to the Nictator – he is not cut out for the NFL.

Saban is a great coach. But I could understand it if he makes the move to the NFL. He’s had great success in college football but did not do well in his stint in the NFL

(he was also unhappy with his lack of authority in personnel decisions while with the Dolphins–having that authority would be one of his requirements if he were to take the job with the Browns.)

I think Saban would like the challenge of proving he can do it in the NFL. So it wouldn’t surprise me if he leaves Alabama.

I think Nick Saban loves the challenge of turning young boys into young men. The stress of winning a championship is tough but the challenge of making a difference in young men lives makes it worthwhile. He is a teacher, coach, and motivator. That is what he loves. Its hard motivating men who are making alot of money in the NFL.

I do so enjoy watching you ever classy Georgia fans getting all excited about the possibility of Saban leaving. You’d think that they would rather actually beat him, but it appears they’ve come to the realization that Richt cannot, so they have to pray that Saban goes away instead. Contrary to what you believe, most Bama fans won’t melt down if he does go to the pros, we’ll be appreciative of his accomplishments in reviving our program and bringing several national championships to Alabama. He will leave the program in great shape, and Kirby Smart will likely take over. Then you’ll have another boogy man to hate. In terms of transitioning, it might even be best if Saban does leave after this year. Smart steps into a program with a loaded roster, top notch facilities, and with tremendous goodwill with the fanbase for his performance as our DC and his loyalty to the program. This year was supposed to be our rebuilding year, and this was the year that Georgia could win it all. Have fun in Orlando.

You have got to admit, any HC at Cleveland would get a challenge and a chance to actually build a team, from the ground up. Unless they offer him a lot of money, and free rein, I can’t see Saban doing it though. If he thinks the college game is bad as far as keeping kids out of trouble, and getting some of them to grow up, I think the pros. are ten times worse in that area.
The Pro. players tend to be a little hard headed and full of themselves, and I don’t think he wants to have to fool with that mess. It would be a challenge though.

It may not happen, but you could cut the air with a knife in Alabama right now, because the air is so thick with fear that God might just up and leave Bama. You Bama fans are delirious if you think for one second that Saban won’t leave Alabama providing he gets what he wants. His ego is to huge to allow him to stay if he gets what he wants from the Browns. The great one stunk up the place the last time he was in the NFL and he will feel the need to avenge that little mishap. Problem is, if Saban does jump back to the NFL, it will finally be his undoing. He’ll show that without overwhelming talent, he is at best, a decent coach. He wins because his teams in Alabama has more talent than any other team Alabama plays. He won’t have that luxury in the NFL. He will show that he is actually a loser. Don’t worry Bama fans. If Saban were to take the leap to Cleveland, he will be back after having his brain beaten in for a couple if year’s. Knowing you people as we do, you will immediately fire your present coach and welcome king jerk back with open arms.

Bama fans: One thing you should keep in mind is that Saban has said that he would never leave a job before….and it wasn’t when he was at Alabama, so I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

Second, Saban has very strong Midwest ties, being from West Virginia, and coaching at Kent State, WV, Ohio State, Michigan State, Toledo…and oh yea, the Cleveland Browns.

Third, Saban failed in the NFL in his first attempt, certainly he will want redemption, especially since he will probably win his 3rd national title in 4 years and become bored with the “challenge” of college football.

Fourth, you are under the impression that Alabama is some sort of mountain top, sure they may be able to pull in recruits, those recruits are so bored that all they do is play football, coaching in the NFL would allow Saban to work LESS because he doesn’t have to monitor all of the morons that are “accepted” (allowed to open the door) to Alabama.

If Alabama beats the Irish then Saban is gone. First of all Nick Saban is the kind of person that wants a challenge and now that he is fixing to win his third National title in three years, what else is there for him to accomplish? He wanted to rebuild Alabama and he did it. Now he wants to accomplish something harder and that is to win in the NFL. Saban was not put in position to succeed in Miami. I think he will have a better opportunity to the second go around. I honestly would be sad to see Saban go because then all the Bama fans that we see flood these blogs would disappear one by one. It is not like Saban wouldn’t be winning championships at other bigger schools. Bama just happen to be in the right place at the right time.

This may not be just rumor. Smart turned down some very lucrative offers to stay at Alabama and was probably told he is” Head Coach In Waiting”. That would answer why Smart was not interested in some very good SEC openings. Saban would go for 8 to 10 million a year and the Cleveland owner would pay it. Smart would sign a 4 to 6 million for 5 years at Alabama.

Saban is about due to move on based on his history and lets face it, it isnt much of a challengs at Bama for him. It couldnt be EASIER actually. Go to Kentucky or Ole Miss and do it. They are highly recognized as a very successful top tier program and there is nothing the haters can do about it.

Caution to BAMA Fans on this one. Saban used the same b.s. lines at Michigan State and LSU.
We Gators never thought Spurrier would leave UF. We were also naive enough to think Meyer was telling the truth when he used his head case family excuse when he left UF.
These guys are all basically unpredictable. UGA Fans should be happy that you have a greaqt coach who is an honorable person. Ironically, we have a DAWG coaching UF these days and we really like him.

Don’t think you would find many Georgia fans that would not agree that Nick Saban to this date in history is the best college football coach ever. The problem comes from the attitude of ” If you ain’t Bama, you ain’t crap……I’m old enough to remember all the years Bama wasn’t good. I’m also old enough to read and know all the trouble the Bama program has been in. That doesn’t take away what this regime under Saban has done…..But please……

Kirby Smart had an opportunity to go to 3 of the top 7 jobs in the SEC. The top seven, realizing they rotate spots within the decades, are Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Alabama and nowTexas A&M. So he turns down Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn. Why? Because after the SEC Championship, Saban announces he is going to the Browns and Smart will be named the HC at Alabama. Smart is 36 and is primed for a head coaching job.

Saban is headed to “The Mistake on the Lake”.

Sure you did what you do best and ran the ball really well but face the cold hard truth… you were a fluke paly away from a loss. We can and we will beat Saban… if he stick around.
I heard an interview with his wife on ESPN radio from a local Birmingham radio show and she said that winning is no longer a joy for Nick Saban. He has to keep up with the expectations now… he is EXPECTED to win now. Anything less is not good enough. The man loves the challenge of building the program but no one can enjoy that kind of INSANE expectations. He’ll either retire soon or go to the NFL because of it.

In a radio interview earlier today with CBS Cleveland’s Baskin & Phelps, NFL Analyst Michael Lombardi dismisses the rumor that he is next in line to be the Browns’ General Manager.
“I haven’t talked to anyone” about the job, he says.

He then goes on to debunk the whole notion that Nick Saban would entertain the idea of returning to the NFL, with him or with anyone else.

In another radio interview (still looking for a podcast), Lombardi was asked by 1310 The Ticket in Dallas about the rumor. Paraphrasing, Lombardi said “I will not be the Browns GM” and went on to say almost the same thing he told Baskin & Phelps about Saban:

I know Nick well and consider him a friend and have great respect for him. His decision to not sign Drew Brees was why he was not successful in the NFL. That said, he has done a great job at Alabama and I know he is happy there .I can’t speak for Nick but I don’t think he would be looking to leave for the NFL.”

It was also addressed by Nick’s wife Terry in an interview on the Smashmouth Radio show in Birmingham.

“To answer your question and get right to the point, no. We’re very comfortable here. We love it here. It’s a great fit for our family. It’s a good fit for me. As far as we’re concerned, this is where we’ll retire someday.

“As far as jobs go, this is it for us. I don’t mean to be presumptuous. I would have to talk this over with Nick, but as far as I’m concerned, this is it.”

Per ” Ibleedcrimsonred.com”

As for the person stating that Nick’s Lake Burton house is for sale, please look again, that is a house he and a developer built together for the purpose of selling.

Once again many many across the SEC, ACC are hoping and praying Nick Saban leaves Alabama so they may have a bigger chance to win games that Alabama and Nick Saban keep from them.

No Disrespect NC Dawg, UGA played a great game, but look at the real story, UGA was playing its best football in over 5 years when they lined up to play Alabama in the SECCG, give all the respect to UGA, the coaches and players, while Alabama lined up playing some of their most average football all year. UGA is loaded with NFL talent on Defense, many many up to 9 who will be in the NFL on Sundays next year, Alabama will lose their O-Line but are 3 deep at that position, and are talent laden deep at every position with QB being their weakest in depth. Alabama will reload and UGA will regroup, they may be back in the SECCG, I have all the respect for UGA and their program, but today there is more of a difference between the programs than just talent, and UGA may be closing the gap but it will take a few more step to get to that level.

Alabama’s high school graduation rate ranks it 40th among the states, but education leaders say they are aiming to make it among the nation’s best by 2020.

The U.S. Department of Education released new state graduation rates that put Alabama at 72 percent for the 2010-2011 school year. That’s better than neighboring Florida and Georgia, but lower than Mississippi and Tennessee.

Iowa led the country at 88 percent, while the District of Columbia rated lowest at 59 percent. Among Alabama’s neighboring states, Tennessee had one of the highest rates in the country at 86 percent. Mississippi measured 75 percent, Florida, 71 percent, and Georgia, 67 percent.

Georgia and Louisiana are tied for 49th and rank last this year. These 2 states have been in the bottom 3 states since the 1990 Edition.

Georgia ranks well for a low prevalence of binge drinking and a low violent crime rate. It ranks in the bottom 8 states on 12 of the 24 measures including a high prevalence of obesity, a high prevalence of a sedentary lifestyle, a low high school graduation rate, limited availability of primary care physicians, a high prevalence of low birthweight infants, and a high prevalence of diabetes. Georgiai ranks 46th for all health determinants combined, so its overall ranking is unlikely to change significantly in the near future. Outside of the Atlanta, and Augusta Regional Areas the State of Georgia is rated as one of the lowest in terms of Health Care Overall.

Louisiana ranks well for a low prevalence of binge drinking and a high rate of childhood immunizations. It ranks in the bottom 5 states on 13 of the 24 measures including a high prevalence of obesity, a high rate of children in poverty, a high rate of low birthweight infants, a high prevalence of diabetes, and a high rate of cardiovascular and cancer deaths.

Say what you will boys and girls. A coach like Nick Saban comes along once in a generation. He understands the pinnacle he has reached and also understands the pro athlete has difficulty listening to coaching and improving. A player making 18 mil a year listening to a straight shooter coach, who is well versed in what each position should strive for, baloney. But take a five star recruit, who wants to play on Sundays, Saban will get his attention and keep it regularly, that means day in and day out.

There is a great deal of wishful thinking tonight on here.
Some begging and hoping Saban is leaving, some wishing that Notre Dame beats Alabama and the SEC streak is over, some although a small amount of hurt dawg fans hoping that the Irish beat Alabama.

Dream on, please give us how do you think Notre Dame can immolate the offense of Georgia? The Dawg Qb is much much better than the Irish two Qb’s combined, the UGA O line is better than Notre Dame’s, UGA’s Wideouts are better than Notre Dame’s Wideouts and on and on. The UGA D line and Linebackers are better and faster than Notre Dame’s along with the DB’s.

This is going to be a blowout by halftime, Notre Dame barely beats Michigan at home while Alabama had them beat in the first quarter. The closest Notre Dame got to any SEC caliber team was Stanford and Stanford would finish maybe 5th or 6th in this league.

Notre Dame best have their A game locked and loaded. Saban and his style of coaching does not translate to the NFL. His old boss in New England is not near the tyrant Saban is. Coach B is known as a pretty tough task master but not to the degree of Saban. If Saban is smart, he will stay in AL and continue to rack up the titles.

It is great to see so many GA fans on an AL article. They have been pretty unwelcoming to other fans in their yard. Nice of them to step out and see the other side.

Dude has more power in the state of Alabama than the governor…and is on top of the college football world right now. But…he’s considering trading all of that for a chance to coach…the Browns?
Next year’s Bama team might just be in the mix again…why walk away??? The Browns???? Really??? ROLL TIDE ROLL

Gosh blogs, message boards, and talk radio are killing our society. Why does everyone say Saban failed in the NFL? I remember a 9-7 year just missing the playoffs then an injury filled 6-10 year. Def not great but he can do better if he had more control. I could totally see him trying again. All this Kirby talk is hilarious too. He didn’t turn down Auburn and is there even evidence he interviewed with Tennessee? People saying Alabama would pay him 4 million a year is laughable. He’s never been a coach and at this time there is no evidence he will be muschamp or Dooley. Kirbys first job will pay him around 2 to 2.5 tops.

@buzzed…UGA and the preacher man signing 40 this year and you speak of Nick? Typical Bama envy.

CBS forecast Bama with 5 1st round picks this hear…yes our rebuilding year with 22 freshmen played (11 true and 11 redshirt). Got to go to my janitor job at Publix.

Saban is loyal to Saban……. and NO ONE ELSE. He said he wouldn’t leave LSU, Miami Dolphins, etc. He even gave a press conference to announce he wouldn’t leave the Dolphins. One thing moves Saban……….. MONEY. Don’t think he will go to the Browns but The Texas Longhorns have been working on him a while. They have pockets even deeper than Bama or the Browns. Very very wealthy alumni. Saban was seen on their campus twice last year. They are not used to losing and have offered Saban the bank to come there in 2014 as their current head coach will be retiring. Saban’s wife said this week that Saban used to come home happy after a win but he doesn’t come home happy any more. Saban’s good for about 5 years in one place – and then he gets that rabbit feeling – run rabbit.

Saban’s leaving, most likely, in 2014 and will take Kirby Smart with him. Paul Johnson will be the next Bama head coach – and Saban will be headed to Hook ‘em Horns.

Funny how the only ones that are thinking he stays are the Alabama fans because they know if he does, then all the bandwagoners get to go back home, and ESPN gets to find another team to root for because it will be back to 6-6 seasons over the in T-town.

As a Georgia fan, I don’t see Saban leaving Alabama until he’s ready to retire. Another thing to consider is I don’t think that the Bama boosters would ever let that happen. As long as the crystal keeps coming along with SEC titles and Auburn beatdowns, the Browns will have to look elsewhere for a coach.

I admire the loyalty of the Bama fans to Saban. Hopefully, Saban doesn’t get too full of himself and break any rules to get Bama in trouble again and embarras the SEC.
Additionally, the Bama fans appear to be looking at the impending game with ND the same way Ohio State fans approached the 2006 Championship Game with the Gators. We all still chuckl at how that worked out for the suckeyes. Hope Bama wins, but do not underestimate the underdog. UGA could have beaten Bama with another 10 seconds on the clock. Bama can be beaten.

I am a browns fan and I do not want him. In Miami he chose a bum for quater back instead of Drew brees. After realizing his mistake he thought it was better for him to quit the dolphins instead of actually coaching a young team for a few years. He is a cherry picking coach and if he is faced with a challenge he jumps ship and goes were he has the odds in his favor.

Saban to the NFL? Being that he coaches at a school that doesn’t require much coaching, I’m sure he’d like to go somewhere that he failed, and can truly make a difference before he hangs it up. I mean come on, what is the challenge for him at Bama? I would think coaching at Bama is comparable to coaching say, Kentucky in basketball. If you have half a brain, and can stay out of the NCAA jailhouse, you’ll win just because of the school’s name. If you truly want to see if you’re a good coach, you’d go to a school that has no history of winning and build a program like say Spurrier has done at UF and USC. Spurrier won a conference championship at DUKE!!! So, yeah, I can see whay Saban would want to bail. No challenge there at all at Bama. Just plug and play. Mindless exercise, and certainly no way to validate your career as a great coach

Same old, same old. This may be a rumor from UGA to help them in recruiting against Alabama on some key players. There is no doubt that the AJC is biased for UGA against GT in particular and any other school who recruits against them. If I were a recruit, I would not consider UGA because of all the underhanded things that is provided for them. You can call it anything you wish, but it is still wrong and underhanded.

There is always an outside chance that a rumor will come true, but I treat these type as biased rumors to make the recruits leery of going to Alabama. And, I am not an Alabama fan.

Silly rednecks. Saban is a lier like Jaworski said and is loyal to nobody except his ego. He will quickly dump Alabama when he feels that there is no more fame for him in the College game. Likely, after the game against ND. Put the Saban statue on hold because you will eventually hate him for leaving.
