Rabbi says a prayer for UGA

Many UGA fans are praying for an upset over mighty Alabama in Saturday’s SEC Championship.

This one was publicly offered up by Rabbi Michael Bernstein of Congregation Gesher L’Torah on Kimball Bridge Rd, Alpharetta:

“May the One who guided Vince, Herschel, and Buck Belue grant victory to their descendants and joy to those who follow them. Give counsel to Mark Richt, accuracy to Aaron Murray, strength to Gurshall and ferocity to the Defense. Halt the momentum of our adversaries, say to them as you related to your servant Job, “The Tide shall come to here and no further.” And as for the Irish… Well let’s deal with that when the time comes…. So may it be inscribed in the Book of Chronicles and Statistics (the BCS) and the records of the House of Dawg.”

What are you hoping for on Saturday? Please post below.

In NASCAR years back, someone asked Dale Earnhardt if he’d ever prayed to win a race or champiosnhip. “No,” Earnhardt replied. “I’m sure the good Lord has more important things to worry about than whether I win or not.” Everyone in this game should take note of that.

I hope the Tide fans dig at Tebow and his faith “Bama 32.13″ come back to haunt them this year

We’ll take all the prayers sent our way from any religious leader who chooses to pray for the mighty DAWGS. You never turn from prayer and God will hear them all from all. And I hope He has His mighty Red and Black robe ready for the Sabbath and the Harps tuned for Glory, Glory to Ole Geargia. And all God’s people said AMEN.

Joe – WTF are you talking about? The UGAy fans were the ones taunting Tebow about that mess, not Alabama. Get your facts straight you drunken delusional obnoxious fleabag.

Beth, I hope your post is a joke. I’m pretty sure God doesn’t care which football team wins. That is, if he/she even exists. For a religious leader to ask for God’s assistance in defeating another sports team is an abomination. Perhaps he should ask God for more important things, like resolving Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His prayer comes off as a comedy bit that Stephen Colbert would do, which normally would be very funny, but in this case is rather disgusting.

A Bulldog Prayer…

Our Heavenly Father,

We thank You each day for the blessing of being a Georgia Bulldog. We cherish the Red and Black of our sackcloth as we denounce Saban in Your Holy Name.

We thank You for Coach Richt’s faith, both on and off the field.
We thank You for Aaron Murray’s great mental game and his strong passing arm.
We thank You for Shawn William’s backbone, leadership and tongue.
We thank You for T.K.’s ability to smile triumphantly in the face of adversity.
We pray Father that the tide will part like the Red Sea and allow Jarvis Jones to fully demonstrate the talent that You have bestowed upon him.
As DawgNation, we recognize Your miracle of Gurshall and we ask as in the promise of Ecclesiastes 3:4 that our time to laugh and dance has come.
We thank You for the speed of our offense and the size of our defense.

As we Dawg walk toward a rising tide, we humbly seek Your continued blessing and feel Your guiding hand upon our collars.

Amen.

Let us pray that the best team wins……….and when all is over lets pray that all are safe and give thanks for all of us being fans and supports of our colors…….red or crimson…….there are lots of people that do not have the right to have “freedom of speech”….we are a lucky and bless nation to do so….lets just hope it last after 4 more years!!

I find it interesting that you would pretend to know His motivations and that even though He is omnipotent he apparently doesn’t have ability to pay attention to the Middle East and a football game at the same time.

Would hate to see what happens when He attempts to walk and chew gum at the once, eh?

One team will win Saturday and one will lose. I for one, believe that God’s Will, will in fact be served in both instances. I’m not going to pray over the outcome of a sporting event but I do indeed HOPE that the Junkyard Dawgs spirit fills these young men and victory is theirs. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!

Why yes, I am a heretic. Was that supposed to be an insult? Comments like yours are yet another reason why I find religion so hard to stomach. I can’t fathom why someone would worship a God that allows such devastation and evil to exist and pray for such silly things as a sports teams to beat a rival. Look at Ole Dawg’s post for someone who actually understands what prayer should be about.

After how bad The Crimson Tide are going to “violate” the Bulldogs on Saturday, the entire Alabama Football Program is going to have to register as a sex offender on Monday morning like those Penn State coaches do.

Rabbi Bernstein, thank you for your prayer for the University of Georgia team. It was a nice, light but important, and welcome thing for you to do besides making me more optimistic of UGA’s chances.

Although Georgia’s participation in the SEC Championship game may seem minor in the scheme of things, rather it involves the labor and emotions of many people, provides employment, positively focuses on our Atlanta area, benefits our flagship university, provides diversion from the trials of life, recognizes teamwork, exemplifies performing within rules, emphasizes fitness of body and mind, rewards effort, teaches that earnest exertion can be rewarding other than through monetary compensation, imparts the value of leadership, provides training in obtaining goals and, otherwise, is a positive event in a seemingly negative world that is worthy of recognition.

זכה, כלבים!
