Saints players say bus was egged in Atlanta

Former Falcons linebacker Curtis Lofton told the AJC’s Michael Cunningham that the Falcons aren’t really seen as a worthy rival by his current team, the Saints, on Tuesday.

Lofton and his New Orleans teammates may feel differently after their bus allegedly was egged while the team was leaving Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Wednesday night.

The Saints were arriving in Atlanta for their game against the Falcons Thursday night in the Georgia Dome.

Saints backup quarterback Chase Daniel tweeted this just minutes after the team’s charter flight touched down:

@ChaseDaniel: Wow, as we’re boarding buses on the Tarmac @ Atlanta airport, we start getting eggs thrown @ us by airport workers! Guess they do hate us!

Tight end Jimmy Graham confirmed the incident took place with another tweet:

@JimmyGraham: Bus just got egged after landing in ATL by the ramp workers. Classy! “RISE Up” smh

A third player, linebacker Will Herring, also tweeted about it:

@wherring54 First time my bus has been egged by opposing fans! Tomorrow should be fun!! #WhoDatNation

Hartsfield-Jackson officials are investigating the incident.

New Orleans has won 11 of the last 13 games in the series, including a 31-27 victory on Nov. 11.

But the Falcons are 10-1 and the Saints are just 5-6 this season.

This incident never happened. This is a case of a few guys on a 5-6 team trying to create motivation.

If the players and bus driver thought airport employees were throwing eggs, why didn’t they stop the bus and report the incident?

When you have a city of lousy transplants, and no superbowl victories, you have a very diverse fan base that is very hard to please due to past failures…. Steelers, Cowgirls, Raiders, and Pack got loads of fans due to success which brings about many bangwagon jumpers. The Aint’s, not so much, you see my rival pal, nobody cares about the Aint’s no more then they care about my Falcons. Why? because my Falcons have NO superbowl rings, and several people question the Ain’t’s “one” superbowl ring. Besides, many of the so called Aint Fans and current rush of Aint fans are mainly ‘Drew Brees” fans and also felt sorry for your city after everything that the people and city went through from 2005-2007.

These are the same Fools who throw stuff at the Braves game against the Cardinals. The NFL need to suspend the Falcons until this nonsense stops. There is no excuse for throwing stuffs at people. Some airport employee will have a gun the next time. Suspend the Falcons until the fans get a grip.

Look, I know this is a heated rivalry and that the Falcons and Saints don’t like each other. And it’s obviously no secret going by the remarks on a weekly basis here that the two fanbases don’t care for each other or the other team.

All that said, I think it’s a shame that some of our fans, whoever they were, stooped to throwing eggs at the Saints’ bus. Not only does it reflect badly on the majority of Atlanta fans who wouldn’t do such a thing, but it could set a dangerous precedent if fans in New Orleans try to “one up” it when the Falcons eventually go back there. Neither team needs this, and they sure dorn’t need bulletin board material to go after each other hard at this point.

And yes, I remember the Saints posing on the Falcons logo and the guy claiming he’d urinated on it, and it made me mad, too. But I’d wager that there were some Saints fans who read that and were ashamed that their team had done such things. At some point one group or the other has to be the better man and demonstrate some class and some grace toward the other, and that includes us fans. At the end of the day, it’s just a football game for crying out loud.

Wow those Saints fans are yappy. You would think it was them with the 10-1 record. We are the ones about to win the division. The fans that used to wear bags on their heads can talk about Atlanta being a crappy sports city all they want. It’s only a matter of time before that toilet bowl of a city in LA is swamped again and the rats and roaches come running for Atlanta like they did before. Saints fans are like an infestation. They apparently love everything about NO except living there. But who can blame them? Shut these jerks up tonight. Go Falcons! Rise Up!

It be a breach of security as well.. Where did the workers get the eggs?

Something doesn’t add-up, and the Saints have been making a lot of accusations that they can’t prove…it would not shock me if its a hoax by them…

….and why target a whole city for the foolish actions of a few?

If the workers did throw eggs at the charter bus, they should be fired. What happens in the game–will happen. This won’t affect the outcome. Still, they should be fired.

They took the time to purchase eggs from within the airport, or bring them to work, and made enough free-time to do this? They should be fired. Then, they can ask The Falcons for new jobs for being so loyal..(And see where that gets them..)

WSBTV already reported-on lapses in security in the loading areas of the airport..

Imagine what else could take their minds from their jobs?

Where were The Homeland Security officials?

I am concerned more about who did this (if it happened)..I’m sure there are cameras everywhere down there..I don’t want airport officials unfocused…Next time someone could be pretending to pull a prank, and it becomes something worse.

It would be funny if the workers were arrested by HLS agents…

To those who are still saying this is a publicity stunt on the Saints part:

Atlanta Airport officials have confirmed that this incident did in fact take place and they are investigating the airport workers that were involved.

I hope they lose their jobs for participating in something so stupid.

Bottom line is ITS JUST A FOOTBALL GAME, the multimillionair players Saints and Falcons could care less about people who work a regular 9-5 job!

I am a Saints fan, but I would never put my livihood on the line for anybody!

I moved to the Atlanta area from new Orleans 15 years ago
Why did I leave the greatest city , I had to make a living, I was able to grow my business in Atlanta
I never had a problem with the Falcons fan based. I have been walking in to the Georgia Dome from the parking lot in Saints jersey and next thing I know I’m involved in a tailgate party with Falcons fans. After Katrina, Falcons fans expressed how sorry they were for devastation New Orleans suffered
Most were those people call redneck, they drive in from outside of the Atlanta area

In my charity work I have had the pleasure of meeting NFL players. The Falcons organization has been so good in assisting many in need

The internet is a tool used by mostly the bad mannered people, don’t fall in line with those types

See you at the game tonight – who dat

It’s sad to see. I believe it is a cover up for Gooddell. The “evidence” which was produced to support the allegations has been proven innaccurate – the spreadsheet was all wrong. The people who are the witnesses are disgruntled employees/coaches. By the way if you haven’t noticed how many players have stepped up and stated they have a pay for performance on the field. By the way how many people did the Saints hurt? I’m curious. I have never heard that number. Must be alot.

Atlanta Falcons: 10-1, only loss to New Orleans Saints.

Kansas City Chiefs: 1-10, only win over New Orleans Saints.

No wonder Saints fans like living in the past…their present is pretty pathetic.

let me bring it to Curtis Lofton and the rest of the NO players why it’s a rivalry:
-Katrina forces tons of people to move from NO to ATL . NO FANS write on the Falcons pages & blogs everyday.
-NO players that posed on the logo after a win flashing hand signs like guns..
-NO idiotic players braggs that they urinated on the field…..and didn’t get a reprimand.
Curtis that boils to a rivalry unless you didn’t experience that when you were here.

While it is not something I would do, is egging a bus (or a house in the case of UGA) that horrendous of an action? The saint’s players should say nothing about class, after the scandal they have gone through. Here’s the deal imo, every team wants passionate fans and passion is difficult to control. I would say if something getting egged is the worse that happens, we are doing pretty good.

Got no problem with the Saints bus getting egged, just as I liked the show of NY style passion by Braves fans in October. Hate filled fandom has been around for as long as professional sports has been around. Refer to a 1934 World Series finale in Detroit between the Cardinals and theTigers. Debris of all kinds was thrown upon the Cardinal left fielder. All I can say is, at least Falcon fans have jobs and don’t sit around drunk on God knows what all day in their underwear.

What ever happened to sportsmanship? You need other teams to play in order to win anything. Nothing could be more classless. I suspect this really happened but I hope attitudes change as a winning team with character begins to represent this great city. Not all of us are like that. Just because the Saints finally figured out how to play football well does not make them bad. The Falcons are on the rise and are becoming a better team. Regarding the Saints suspensions: high energy legal hits forceful enough to cause injury or degraded player performance have been used as a metric for agressive defensive play since I was a kid and I don’t think it will go away any time soon. This is not a contact sport (like dancing). This is a collision sport and if you play it for a living you have to do it full force or you will be looking for a job. I’d like to watch our Falcons prove their prowess on the field and will be using my energy to root them on as they take it to the Saints on the field of play. I respect any NFL team capable enough to be in that league. At times, their management, players or coaches make a bonehead move like other real people but we don’t have to egg them to make ourselves feel better. GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!

Not sure why Falcons Fans would resort to aborting their unhatched dirty birds!

Perhaps its because the Saints will always be a reminder to Falcons Fans that their team really isn’t all that when they lose to a team with a losing record, no head coach and the worse defense in league history.

I really hope the Falcons finish the season 14-2, because it will forever be know that their 2 losses came from one team…the Saints.

And I know Falcons fans, Mike Smith and Matty Melt are praying the Saints do not make it to the playoffs….because they wouldn’t want their 1 and done playoff appearance to come to an end by the Saints beating them for the 3rd time in one season.

Good luck tonight…your boys will need it.
