UGA’s Rambo: “I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama)”

One of UGA’s veteran defenders has provided some of the first bulletin board material of the week in advance of Saturday’s SEC Championship showdown between the Bulldogs and Alabama.

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)

UGA safety Bacarri Rambo went on ESPN radio after Saturday’s blowout win over Georgia Tech and said some words that will surely get the attention of Nick Saban:

“I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama). We have better players at each position, across the board, especially on defense. It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I know it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to come down to who has the best defense and who makes more turnovers. It’s going to be a battle of the defenses.”

Which defense is better?

What do you think? Is Rambo correct? Is UGA’s defense better than Alabama’s? And if so, should Rambo have made the remark? If not, why not? Please post below.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game will match up No. 2 Alabama versus No. 3 Georgia. Please check back all week for the AJC’s coverage of “SEC Championship Week”

It rarely matters who has the better players. It matters whose players play better. A lot of that has to do with coaching. Georgia can win this game. Alabama probably will. What Rambo did or didn’t say won’t mean anything once the hitting starts.

UGA has 4 or 5 defensive players who would start for Alabama. I’m not convinced Rambo would be one, though. These words won’t mean a thing come Saturday, but you’d still prefer him not to say them.

I think Rambo is right..What was he suppose to say? That Alabama is better? Georgia is just as good if not better at a lot or positions.Alabama is not the unbeatable monster that some people think they are. They got swatted by Texas A&M they didn not play the top three teams for the SEC east and the win over LSU was not a blowout. They can be beaten if Georgia plays with the same passion they had against Tech.

Bama has no pass rusher like Jarvis Jones and Jordan Jenkins. If they can’t get to Murray he will dissect their secondary which is the weakest part of their defense. They have not dealt with speed receivers like Tavarres King and Malcolm Mitchell all year.

Let’s face it, folks. If Rambo had any common sense, he wouldn’t have been suspended the first four games of this season or the first game of 2011. Nevertheless, he’s a good football player and I’m sure he believes what he said. As we all know, words don’t win football games; actions do. If our guys show up and play to the best of their ability, then I’m going to like our chances. If we haven’t learned anything from the South Carolina game this year and the second half of the SEC title game last year, then Bloomin’ Onions will be falling from the sky one more time.

Rambo is correct and I have no problem with what he said. That’s the attitude the players need in this game as opposed to the deer in the headlights approach they took with USCe. All BS aside, Bama is very good. This is not their Best Saban team, but a very good team. Well coached. Hardly ever out of position. They don’t break out into a freak show after a big play. Not concerned at all! It is healthy to get this out in the open. The Georgia players have the necessary confidence to Walk The Talk. We all know who Alabama is, and they will be ready to play no matter if Georgia says nothing or something. In fact, who has the swagger to say something? It may as well be the Dawgs. I also am sure Coach Mark Richt does not mind his defense getting behind the eight ball a bit as the eight ball sunk finishes the game. I am sure The Dawgs are believing they will have the cue stick at the end of the game.

Go Dawgs, and Rambo Them To

Nothing is wrong with what Rambo said. Ga. has some studs. Ga. is faster and larger. The coaches can lose this game, eventhough they are not playing. JB: Agree with you about the way Bama plays ball. One thing I noticed is that they are very very good tacklers. I’m talking wrapping a guy up and bringing them on. Like you said, no showtime stuff, no ESPN look at me moments.

JB

November 25th, 2012
6:09 pm

If we are able to get a pass rush, they will switch to that dink and dunk 5 and 10 yard pass game which gets the ball out of McCarran’s hands real quick and is very effective. They slide a TE off a block and dump a 5 yard pass to him. When you adjust to that they pop a RB off tackle. Grantham has his hands full…….But so do they.

Georgia’s “more talented” defense gave up how many points to Kentucky, Tennessee, Buffalo, and South Carolina? I love how Bama had two games where their defense didn’t play great and now everyone thinks they are weak. How many points did UGA give up to Missouri? I forgot that one in the long list above. Bama gave up 29 to A&M and did not look great but that offense is flat out great. They did not even give up 20 points to LSU which everyone considers their other bad game. Screw AL. If we lose the game, it won’t be because Rambo motivated them. Every article & ESPN already has AL in the NCG a week before it is played.. If we play better we will win, if not we will lose, but it won’t be because of Rambo’s comments, either way. Rambo & Ogletree made some pretty strong statements on the field against Tech & it didn’t motivate them to play better. Chief Tuskaloosa is notable for leading the Battle of Mabila at his fortified village against the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto. After being taken hostage by the Spanish as they passed through his territory, Tuskaloosa organized a surprise attack on his captors at Mabila, but was ultimately defeated.

Contemporary records describe the paramount chief as being very tall and well built, with some of the chroniclers saying Tuaskaloosa stood a foot and a half taller than the Spaniards. His name, derived from the western Muskogean language elements taska and losa, means “Black Warrior”.

Rambo is right. Last year Bama had the top defense with players poised to be first round draft picks. This year it is Georgia. Bama proved itself vulnerable on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball against LSU and Texas A & M. I don’t know how A.J. McCarron can be considered a better quarterback than Aaron Murray, when he leads McCarron in most statistics. Should Rambo have stated it, and given Alabama more incentive than they already have. No. He could have said Georgia is a match for Alabama position by position. I doubt Saban will let his player run their mouths before the game.

Dawgs are playing better each week, and, as Saban observed, we are playing as well as any team right now.
Timing is everything, right?
As for Rambo’s comment, I agree with what PJ wrote way up above.
First of all, Rambo’s remark will not make much, if any, difference in the outcome. However, there can be a fine line between saying something like “I got bigger fish to fry” and saying you’re more talented than the other team. Overall, the comment is OK, but not necessary. But, it may resonate in Alabama’s head a little, and work to our benefit.
I don’t feel anything like the night we played LSU for the SEC Championship; I was certain we would lose. This Saturday, I have no such trepidation; we may lose, but we can win if we play up to our ability.
Go Dawgs.

I have read his comment over and over again and I don’t see anything derogatory with it. He is just saying we are as good or better than the all mighty ullaBama. If Murray is on his A game and doesn’t choke in the big game and Bobo calls a good one like he has been doing then we win – defense has and will do their job. Bama is too conservative. Saban will be hell bent on winning after getting whupped by Freshman Johnny Football but hopefully we play for 60 minutes and get er done. Georgia has not played a team with the overall talent equal to Alabama’s team talent. And superior talented teams should win most of the time. And when an Alabama player is injured, his replacement isn’t much of a drop off in talent and skill. That is part of the concept team talent. The game will be very interesting. When Alabama is clicking on all systems, offense, defense and special teams, there are very few teams which can match Alabama with talent and skill.

Obviously the interception was a horrendous pass, and the stripped ball, if I remember correctly, came as Tech’s running back was almost to the end zone. And as some others have said here, we definitely need to kill any mystique about Bama right now. You’re darn right, the Dawgs have better players! To heck with Sir Saban, to heck with all those national titles at Bama. And to heck with all the media types who seem to be licking their chops over a Notre Dame-Bama matchup. Seems to me the more interesting storyline is 1980 Herschel vs. Notre Dame/2012 Gurshall vs. ND! Fact is, the Dawgs should be favored by 10-14 points. Let’s Go!!!!!!!!!

I’d give Alabama the edge at OL and at coaching. There DE’s are probably better than ours too. Thats about it though….Ga holds the edge elsewhere. Problem is…if the game is won in the trenches and you give up the coaching edge…one can easily see why it will be on the tough side for Ga to pull this out. But….we have a chance and we can turn the tables on them if our OL can step up and coach Richt can get the Dawgs to play smart football. Lots of pressure on the Ga DL to play well and neutralize Alabama’s strength. Big John will need to play the game of his life.

BREAKING NEWS: NICK SABAN ARRESTED

AP-Tuscaloosa
Authorities arrested Alabama head coach Nick Saban in the predawn hours Monday at his home in Tuscaloosa on animal cruelty charges. Saban, 56, was charged with 85 counts of animal cruelty in an alleged attack which occurred
Saturday night in Athens, Georgia.

Police said that as many as 92,138 witnesses saw Saban and a large group of violent young men under his control hit, kick, crush and destroy a large pack of mostly-docile bulldogs.

One officer was quoted as saying, “I haven’t seen bulldogs treated this badly since the Michael Vick case.”

Let your play do the talking BR. it sounds like the players needs some coaching on giving interviews as well. this is the time to be conservative with the interviews until you have that SEC or NC trophy in hand. Georgia is probably more talented but Alabama is more discipline, refuses to lose, and play hard nose football for 4 quarters. let’s talk about that BR.. you only get a trophy by being more talented in little league football.

I’m not a fan of either team. But, if I had just stumbled on to this blog and not known which team had 10+ National Championships….and which time had ONE (32 years ago)….I’d have said that GA was the one with all the titles. Apparently, just being in a huge game is all that it takes to start the garbage talk.

JB, I hope that you’ll be sure to come post after the game on Saturday. For a fan of a team that hasn’t won jack squat in 32 years….you talk mighty big and very loud….too loud for what you’ve done.

My seminoles haven’t done jack either lately, but its only been 13 years. I can’t imagine 32 years with nothing…I’d remind you that although you have a decent team…this team that your playing Saturday has a whole lot of experience in whipping other teams on very large stages. I’d also remind you that GA Southern looked pretty stout against your “Dawgs” until that lousy call. I’d remind you that a lousy Tennessee scored 44 points against your big time D….and you got mauled 35-7 against SC.
Beating GT is absolutely no cause for confidence. But, whatever floats your boat. This team your playing Saturday is a lot better than anything that you’ve seen.

As far as kerryb’s repeated yapping about Alabama having the 72nd ranked offense in the country, he’s full of it as one would expect of a Delusional Dawg. Alabama is ranked 43rd nationally in total offense and 15th nationally in points per game. And those rankings are lower than they should be because Alabama spent much of the second half in many games running the ball with a backup QB and 3rd and 4th team running backs behind the second team offensive line to hold the score down in blowouts.

I’m basing my comment on facts, not hear say. So what am I supposed to do, base my comments on the best game Georgia has played and then size it up to the worst game Alabama has ever played? That’s called cherry picking. Alabama will run Georgia out of the game just like LSU did last year. Aaron Murray ALWAYS turns the ball over for points in a big game, it never fails. Go back and check if you don’t believe me. Alabama has the best coach in college football that will prepare his team to handle everything Georgia has to throw at it. Aaron Murray is no Johnny Manziel, and other than him, Alabama has had no problem with a quarterback. Todd Gurley is my main concern, as I figured him to be Freshman of the year, and he is the best true Freshman in the country. Other than him, Jarvis Jones is a beast, but Georgia can not match up with Alabama. Not sure where Rambo’s comments came from, but they just can’t. We’ll find out on Saturday. Contractor, you will be eating crow. Georgia showed their inexperience last year against LSU. They’ve been there now. If Todd Gurley can rush for 117 yards on Florida’s defense that is better than Bama’s he can run on Bama’s defense. You are comparing last year which means absolutely nothing. This is the most focused Georgia team at this point that I’ve have seen since 2007. Georgia will not be run out of any game now because of their defense. If you compare the SC game you have to look more at the young O-line more than the defense. That O-line is playing better than it did on Oct 6th. This is a different team than it was on Oct 6th.

You talk out of the lower hole on your body and always have an excuse. I am simply going by on the field results, not inexperience or any of that garbage that you just expressed in your comment. Look at how many on defense Alabama lost last year in the first round alone, now look at how good Alabama still is on defense. Look at the numbers, they don’t lie. You’ll see on Saturday which team has the better coaches and which team is overall better. There is nothing you can present to this argument to prove your point, or Rambo’s for that matter. Simple hear say or your opinion does not suffice, actions and facts do.

Guys, Let’s get back to the big game next Saturday.

I admire Alabama’s coaching style as a highly disciplined; HOWEVER, I think that BAMA has a tendency to play too TIGHT sometimes. Saban sometimes gets WAY too conservative.
I think Georgia presents a lot of problems for BAMA.

We have a more DIVERSIFIED offense, but BAMA makes fewer mistakes.

Bama has a good defense, but I think Georgia has the edge in experience AND talent on the defense.
(But Saban isn’t going to hang what I say on his players lockers, Rambo’s comments, he will)

I also think that this is Mark Richt’s year to get a Crystal Football.
(The man is also religious which doesn’t hurt, either)

MANY BAMA fans forget that they lost a ton of EXPERIENCED talent last season.

If our Defense can hit hard and make plays like we did against FLORIDA, we win.

No doubt both teams have some of the most talented talent in America. Both have had some wonderful recruiting classes over the last several years. It just seems that Alabama has gotten more mileage out of their players, hence two National championships in the last three years. They don’t seem to brag alot in the media either. They just seem to do their talking on the field. I also noticed that CBS stated that Bama had 11 first round NFL draftees since 2009. They do seem to be doing something right. In terms of defense, Alabama is ranked ahead of the Dawgs in almost every category. I think that this game will be won on defense and if this is so, Alabama could be headed for the BCS game again. You are over matched by anything you bring to the table. You can only hope Georgia bails you out this weekend, because everything you say isn’t adding up and is resulting in you getting called out. You aren’t wanting to talk about the past, yet you bring up how many players Alabama lost LAST YEAR. Well take a look at the link I provided above at what the defense is doing THIS year, and with a quarterback that just threw his first interceptions of THIS YEAR last week.

Alabama has holes like every other team out there, but they are able to cover it up and get help in other facets of the game. It is well documented and watch some game film and you’ll see. Have fun this week spending 12 hours a day trying to cover your butt on these blogs and your comments all while continuing to chase your own tail (no pun intended). Wait a minute, those stats show that Georgia’s defense has given up over 40% more yards per game and over 25% more yards per play than the Alabama defense has with inferior talent at every position. How can that be? Is it superior coaching, a lack of drug related suspensions, or something else?

A number of thoughts.

Georgia is not likely the best of one-loss teams on the board, whether they beat Bama or not. There are several teams that would probably beat them. And, I’m talking Oregon, Kansas State, etc. So, IF Georgia makes it past Bama, they still do not deserve to be in the National Championship game. Their schedule is a total embarassment. One quality win over Florida and (hypothetically) Alabama. Not worthy of a title bid.

Secondly, Georgia plays undisciplined football which results in their regularly receiving rear-end kickings from more disciplined teams. This feature goes way back in the Mark Richt era. Players showboating, dancing on the field, helmets intentionally loosened to come off in order to show dreads, etc.

Thirdly, I am noticing that Georgia players who come out in the third year typically fall flat as pros. Knowshon, Orson Charles, etc. Do not believe that any of these present Georgia players are gonna come out and do anything either. Yes, Rambo and Jarvis Jones will be drafted in the 1st round, but hope that the Falcons don’t take them and further don’t believe that they will do anything noteworthy. Probably be bench players.

Thirdly, LSU won by 32 points last year and this year’s game will certainly result in a beatdown as well. If you believe that Bobo and Coach “Prozac” are gonna motivate and discipline this team then you have been watching something different than I have over the past 10 years.

Lastly, Notre Dame has a 400 lb. noseguard that is gonna cause problems for whoever plays them. So, this is not gonna necessarily be an automatic SEC win, especially if the over-rated Dawgs get there.

kerryb

Contractor, I only care how a team is playing the last five games. I don’t care what Bama did or Georgia did last year. Last year has nothing to do with this Saturday. OK let us try an intellectual debate and see if you have any honesty.

QB’s: I call it even only because AL’s QB has played in championship games before but Murray has more talent.

WR: I give the edge to GA (especially considering Bell is out).

TE: I call this one even

RB: Another even but only because UGA’s backs are Freshman.

OL: I will give the edge to AL, especially in the run game but LSU was all over the QB and JJ is the best pass rusher Bama will face this year.

DL: Maybe even but John Jenkins will be a first round draft choice and I do not see any on Alabama’s.

LB: Advantage UGA. 2 first round draft choices maybe the top player picked in the draft.

Safeties: Advantage UGA.

CB: Advantage UGA

Kicking game: Advantage Alabama

Coaching: Advantage Alabama (only because they have been in Championship games). CMR has a 3-2 record against Saban.

Yeah, that’s it, you judge Georgia by the games that they decide to show up for and judge everybody else by their entire body of work. Disregard that South Carolina blowout and the wallowing around against Buffalo, Tennessee and Kentucky.

_________________________________________________________________________

You know nothing if you don’t take into account how a team has rounded out during the season and started to play good football over the last half of the season. Kind of like in 2010 when the Packers were 9-7 and had to win their last game of the year against the Bears 12-10 just to get into the playoffs. After that no one could beat them. You don’t know anything about Georgia football if you don’t know what was going on the first half of the year on the defense and how it came together after all of the starters were back. It’s a different team now.

I love Mark Richt as a person but sometimes he drives me crazy as a coach with the lack of discipline and lack of getting the team up for big games; HOWEVER, with all of the coaching changes (TN, AU, UK, AR, etc) I have a greater appreciation for Mark Richt lately. Now here me out:

Mark Richt came from FSU when they were DOMINANT. I remember him saying something like he likes the players to play LOOSE and does not like to discipline too much for fear that the players play too tight in games. At FSU, they had great athletes FLYING all over the field and knocking heads off. Sort of a controlled chaos.

Well I think this year’s Georgia team might have a little of that loose and undisciplined controlled Chaos working in our favor.

Our Offense has SO many weapons and is multi-facteted. But the QB has got to keep his head in the game and play ball.

ANd our defense punished Florida this year and kept their offense out of the endzone. Florida is no fluke this year folks, like Herby and all of the espn talking heads were spouting at the beginning of the season.

So as I am rambling on, my point is that I think CMR’s controlled Chaos will fimnally come through for the SEC CG and against an overrated ND team.

Go Dawgs!

kerry, quit trying to defend bad decisions. I think we can play with Bama, too, but these comments usually don’t help the cause. Rambo is a great player, but the coaches need to explain why this kind of talk can distract the team, and why it can motivate your opponents. Better running backs, qbs, safetys? What are ya smoking son? AJ McCarron is in the Heisman discussion. Murray is not. Linebackers? Bama is loaded with them and has 2-3 that will be in the pros. Safetys? Alabama has an All-American in Robert Lester and at corner we have the top corner for the upcoming Draft in Dee Milliner.

Offensive line? Puh-leeze! Bama has 3 guys that will go 1st round this year. DJ Fluker, Chance Warmack are certain 1st rounders and Barret Jones is the reigning Outland trophy winner.

Running backs? Seriously? Eddie Lacy is a 1,000 yard rusher and freshman phenom TJ Yeldon will hit 1,000 yards and is flat out better than that Gurshall tandem that fails to show in big time games.

4 no. 1 rated recruiting classes in 5 years at Bama. Your talent level isn’t anywhere near the depth of what Bama brings to the table. Our massive O-line is going to chew up your D-line and spit it out like used tobacco.

Who has GA beaten this season? ONE team thats any good, just the Gators. And that game was a mutual crapfest with FL serving up 6 turnovers.

I saw the GA So. game two weeks ago and frankly, GA didn’t look very good. I know that GA had to pull away late to beat MO….somehow let absolutely awful KY hang around the entire game….went to OT against wretched Tennessee and gave up 44 points in the process….got whipped 35-7 to SC…..let Buffalo think they were in the game in the 2nd half….let’s face it, GT blows…as does Auburn.
This GA “juggernaut” can certainly win Saturday night. This is not ALA of 2011…but, the GA coaching staff is underwhelming. The stupid penalties, the constant showboat crap, the trash talking, the mental mistakes….GA is not exactly a well oiled machine.

Georgia backed into this game big time and is about to get embarrassed for all to see. Rambo and UGA fans don’t understand that talent is only a starting point. Auburn has two top three national recruiting classes on its roster. What did that get them?

You have to have player development through great coaching, and that’s where Georgia has always fallen short. Georgia will be badly out-coached in the SEC Championship game.

David

November 26th, 2012

Tech put up 400+ yards of offense on that defense and their lack of discipline and incompetence kept them from scoring. What do you think a team like Alabama, that doesn’t have those bad football team problems, is concerned about with Georgia’s D? As an impartial observer on both sides I think UGA is a product of their schedule. Carolina, FL, and Vandy are the only Division 1 teams they have played with a winning record. GSU is a Div 2 team. Everyone else they have played is .500 or a lost worse. Alabama can at least say they have played 4 high ranked teams coming into this game. I just don’t know, they are in the game so anything can happen. I saw UGA beat a lot of mediocre to really bad football teams and go 1-1 against actual competition. Plus UF gave them the ball 6 times and it was still a struggle up to the end. Bama has their problems as well, I think they are better coached though.

Georgia lacks the discipline and self control that Alabama brings to the game. Work on that and hopefully you can pull this one off.

I think the game will be great, I am looking forward to it and will be there to watch. Who has the better players, defense? Who knows, but statistically Bama is better, and although it is very close, if you believe in recruiting rankings, Bama has won that battle as well. However, the good news is it will be decided on the field. I think if both teams play their absolute best game, Bama wins by 7, if not then who knows.

What is he suppose to say to the media? “Alabama the greatest that has ever been, we should not show up, it is impossible to beat them”? Media types have always asked the set up questions to have something two report. I think Alabama does not need any media to get them ready nor do I think Ga needs any media to get them ready. I wish the players were banned from talking to the media. The media would not have a job to report sports. That would be a great concept.

Two ways to build winning teams:

1. Hire 1st rate coaches and recruit players with talent and character (example: Alabama).

2. Hire 3rd rate wannabe coaches and recruit low class trash, then schedule a lot of crap teams (example: Georgia).

Method #1 works. Method #2 gets you a decent W-L record, but no championships.

Perhaps I missed it, as it was not quoted in the article, but to what question is Rambo responding? Was he asked if he thought Georgia had a chance to beat Bama? Was he asked if his defense was as good as Bama’s. It wouldn’t surprise me if ESPN baited him since they are so Pro Bama. Even the Georgia players know that everyone at ESPN and around the country give them very little chance to win this game. They already have Bama in the championship game.

I don’t really think that anything anyone says could motivate either team more than they already are. What more motivation do they need; SEC championship and national championship game birth on the line. Enough said.

Maybe Rambo felt obligated, as a leader of the defense, to respond to the question in such a way as to give his team confidence, to show them that he believes. If the dawgs don’t already believe they can hang with Bama, why play the game? I truly hope that every dawg has the same mentality of Rambo and plays with the intensity we know they can play with come game day.

I hate bulletin board material as I have seen it work before as incredible motivation. That said, they shouldn’t interview these young men right after a big win against a rival. These kids are so pumped up they could say almost anything. Let the coaches direct their own talking points.

Seriously, I would rather the players don’t talk and for Richt to blow smoke up Bama’s butt about how unbeatable they look, all the while stoking my team’s fire behind the scenes, and then showing the Tide their own exposed backsides (thanks to Mr. Manziel) on national TV.

I don’t think there was anything wrong with what he said. Once again as the media LOVES to do is take someone’s comments out of context. I’m with you Dawgfan12, I would like to see what question he was asked that resulted in his response.

I mean come on people what’s the kid supposed to say, “Oh I feel Bama’s got better athletes than we do?”

All he said was “I FEEL like we have better players at each position”. He then goes on to say “It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I know it will be a battle.”

That hardly sounds like trash talk to me. It sounds like a player who:

1. Believes in his teammates and is (unlike the rest of America) confident in the Dawgs ability to not only be competitive in the game but actually win it.

2. Has respect for his opponent and knows that they are going to have to fight to win the game and can’t just “show up”.

As for the game this Sat, Saban has got to be concerned with not only our defense but the offense. Did anyone notice how much “no huddle” we ran against Tech. That was practice for Bama.

Saban has been crying all season long about how the rules need to be changed regarding no huddle offenses. It’s the one area his defensive schemes have a weakness with, because he likes to change his personnel often based on what the offense is showing and to keep them fresh. Texas A&M ate them up with it. Bama has not faced an offense like ours, combined with a defense like we have. Bama is also down a receiver, which means we will be able to go man-coverage and load up to stop the run and pressure McCarron.

Bulletin board material? It’s just a thought to which BR and many others believe. They finally have their confidence, and believe in their self for a change. As far as bulletin board material, what about the past several years of the Dawgs hearing Bama, LSU, UF, etc – “this and that”…. ESPN singing about everyone but UGA (for years now), and rightfully so at times. I recall in ‘07 when Kerby leaned towards the bandwagon of UGA towards the end, favoring a match with them and USC for the NC. After that though, never to be heard of again. Must have gotten reprimanded by ESPN for mentioning UGA. Sad when there is too many pigeons and not enough statues. Seems as though when UGA wins, the opposition is down-played (a bit of bias), or was a “nobody”. They (UGA) purchased the “do less with more” banner – hands down, BUT you have to give credit when it’s due. Don’t you know that deep within themselves they are well equipped and ready to take this stage against “any of them”. Win or lose! Maturation and chemistry, belief in one another. You are what you accept. Talent level is matched well, leaving it for a head-to-head coaching dual. For that alone, I question Bobo showing up – more so than AM. Stats, #s, etc. – toss that straight out of the window. Going to be all heart and will. UGA lost the opportunity to prove themselves to the media (and others), but here Bama stands again. Good ole destiny. GO DAWGS!!!

Here’s Saban’s quotes on no huddle:

“[The no-huddle]’s obviously created a tremendous advantage for the offense when teams are scoring 70 points and we’re averaging 49.5 points a game,” Saban said on an SEC coaches teleconference, as quoted by the Birmingham News. “With people that do those kinds of things, more and more people are going to do it.

“I just think there’s got to be some sense of fairness in terms of asking, ‘Is this what we want football to be?’ ”

But Saban wasn’t just arguing against the no-huddle over its lack of “fairness” to the defenses — he views it as a safety hazard as well.

“At some point in time, we should look at how fast we allow the game to go in terms of player safety,” Saban said. “The team gets in the same formation group, you can’t substitute defensive players, you go on a 14-, 16-, 18-play drive and they’re snapping the ball as fast as you can go and you look out there and all your players are walking around and can’t even get lined up.

And people still think Bama is just going to blow us out. LMAO!!!

NC Dawg – you’re right about the lack of respect card. I think few people outside of DawgNation give us any chance in this game. The two games that get me excited about our chances are the LSU and Tex A&M game they played.

I know a lot of people look to how bad we lost to SC, but forget the main reason the offense struggled was we lost our #1 WR in Bennett late in practice on Thurs before the game. There was ZERO prep time to address that. It’s why his timing was off and the offense never got into any kind of rhythm. Injuries are a part of the game, but you usually lose guys during a game to injuries like that. Rare that you lose them the last day of game prep in practice.
Bama lost Kenny Bell, but will all week to practice with his replacement and make adjustments.

AR Dawg I agree SC punched us in the mouth no doubt, but c’mon, anyone who thinks MB’s absence didn’t make a huge difference is fooling themselves. Go back and look at the game and count the number of dropped passes MB most likely would have caught, the miss ran routes, and the timing that was off. Not nessecarily saying we would have won the game or not, but if MB is in that game it isn’t 35-7 for sure.

I recall a “black-out” a few years back. Not sure what that did for UGA. Now Rambo is talking… it won’t make a difference. They’ll both strap it on Saturday afternoon and both teams will hit hard. I think the matchup is actually pretty even myself. I give Bama an ever so slight edge only because we have been there lately (NC last 2 of 3 and 8th SECCG appearance). Not to say UGA can’t win because we all know they could… it’ll be tough win for either team – and either will have earned their right to play ND in the BCS NC game. Roll Tide!

Hell yeah we missed MB. More specifically his blocking. IMHO. the SC game was total coaching failure. They were not prepared for that game and the strengths of SC went unheeded. Our OL was soft and allowed the SC defense to stay in Murray’s grill. There was no preparation for that

“Apparently John hasn’t watched any Georgia games since the Kentucky game.”

Apparently kerryb has not looked at the stellar offenses UGA has played since the Kentucky game. Florida’s offense is not great. I just think it is foolish UGA fans act like Bama’s defense is trash. Is it as good as last years which you could make a case for possibly being the best all-time? No but it is still a great defense and if you are being objective, I think you would trade UGA’s defense for Bama’s.

Thats actually not what he said. He never mentioned Bama. Notice the (than alabama) part is in parenthesis and not quotations. He said he felt like they were more talented than anyone in the country. Quite interesting that no one from the AJC put their name on this article. Just irresponsible journalism. Typical media jackhole trying to stir up stuff.

AltamahaDawg

I’d say there was at least an equal chance that what Rambo said putting a fire under his own team mates, than the risk that the Alabama players are actually going to do a better job to prove him wrong. I would also bet you that he was responding to a broader question in an interview and this is what they clipped out of it.

That being said, it actually makes ZERO difference either way.

I only WISH that sort of thing had some effect on the Alabama players. I’d take them relying on bulletin board material for motivation, over sound fundamental play all day long.

There is some danger of too much trash (which this was not) becoming a distraction, and I am sure both staffs are going to watch that.

John

Just look at the numbers:

Bama Points per game allowed: 9.2
UGA Points per game allowed: 17.7
Bama Average yards allowed: 233.7
UGA Average yards allowed: 337.8

Bama also leads UGA in PPG on offense and is only 30 yards behind in yards per game.

It will be a great game. I am just tired of UGA fans acting like Bama’s defense is below average bc they had one bad quarter against the best offense in the country.

John

Third party here, but making comments has no effect on the field, not Rambo’s comment, nor the old man comment by Florida (the six turnovers did). I don’t believe Ga will be able to run the ball consistantly, so they better be prepared to protect the QB (remember SC)…Ga on the other hand, must be able to slow the Al run game with seven in the box or face the play action, that I believe makes Al tuff to contain…

What I don’t understand is why the winner between Georgia and Alabama will pay Notre Dame. We haven’t started the elimination tournament yet, so explain to me why the winner is rewarded to play Notre Dame. There are other teams with only one loss, so what gives? Florida, Kansas State and so on. This isn’t right, but no one seems to care from those teams and I know I would be upset losing one game and being left out in the Game Of The Year.

Rambo is right but players don’t win Football games, teams do and Alabama has the better team.

When you play for a team you expect your team to win, so that’s why Alabama lost against Texas A&M and A&M didn’t come out, and say they were going to beat them, but I did predict a loss for Alabama for that game and teams can lose games as Alabama found out. I predicted a loss because Alabama wasn’t playing like the real Alabama the week before. What I and maybe others don’t understand is why ( Georgia ) will play Notre Dame since other teams are also undefeated? I only pick teams I know will win and sadly for Alabama they will lose to Georgia.

Bama doesn’t need any comments to get motivated for the game. This is a play in game to the National Title game. If someone needs added motivation then something is wrong.

Let’s talk football. As a Bama fan I’m concerned about JJ coming off the edge. As good as our OL is we have had trouble at times with speed rushers coming off the edge and JJ is the best in the country. If AJ has time to throw then I think he will find Cooper for a big play or 2. As usual we gonna also play smash mouth football. Interesting to see how UGA handles that.

On the other side of the ball we don’t have a pass rusher like JJ so we will have to bring pressure to get to Murray. How Murray handles that pressure will be the key to the game to me. If he can stand in the pocket and deliver accurate passes then I think it will be a close game. If he buckles and starts to commit turnovers then UGA will be in trouble. What say you UGA fans?

There is no real edge coming from a player’s mouth when speaking about their competition. Early in the year, the Georgia safety gave his own players a wake up call, and it has worked. Word is the Alabama offensive line is feed up with Barrett Jones and all he thinks he knows and is. They also feel like Barrett Jones thinks his _ _ _ _ does not stick. D.J. Fluker has said so in private company, and that should be news as Chance Womack along with Fluker are adverse to Jones’ mouth and ways. So not all is so perfect here in Crimson Tide Country.

I like football a bunch, but I am not too hot on the Tide. See here in Bama Country when the Bear was the coach there were a whole lot of fathers that forgot about their kids. My Dad’s first thought was Alabama Football and NASCAR and Talladega, and us kids. See sister and I were left with Mom. So not everyone here cares so much about the States # 1 Religion, Football.

Make me wonder if we will ever get past Montgomery, and our lack of schooling. Sorry, but the truth is people here are sick, and sick and tired of too much of Alabama Football. Ask the wives here, and you will get the truth.

Maybe a few losses will open someones eyes to what the world really looks like. Would be nice to have more variety here in Sweet Home Alabama.

Maybe Auburn will get the coach they are looking for, and Tuscaloosa will get a new Wal-Mart. The one we have now is too crowded, and Sams is right next door. Same parking lot to.

Bama Leads the nation in total defense(YPG) at 233 to Georgia’s 337. So yes UGA has better Draft Ready talent this year(Most bama defenders are underclassmen). Need I remind everyone that just a few short years ago, the undefeated New England Patriots @ 18-0 went into the Super Bowl to face a New York Giants team that backed into the playoffs. The Giants won because they played as a team, even though the Patriots were the better team, with the better, more talented players, the Giants believed in the process. What was Rambo’s comments after the South Carolina game?

Bama Boy

CW go easy here. I am a kid from Central, and almost went to County High. That makes me almost country. We moved to the city cause Dad wanted to be close to the stadium. He had too many DUIs and here in Alabama missing a Tide game was against the law. Well almost!

Now Mom and I live here in town, and some things have changed. Recently, the students here were down on the Tide football program because it got too boring at the games. No excitment, but yes we were winning. Going to the games used to be fun, but now just because we win does not mean we are having fun. Mom is depressed as Dad sucked the life right out of her. See we even have crimson carpet, and our bathrooms are tiled in crimson and white. So when there is soap scum residue on the tiles you cannot tell. Plus the dog is not well, and Dad made sure in his will that we could not put Bear to sleep. The dog is in bad shape, and I feel sorry for the dog, hence kind a feel for The Dawgs. By the way CW, the Bulldog masot is much better than an Elephant, and Alabama can only have a phony not real play elephant mascot. At least Georgia and LSU have real mascots. Even Auburn has a Tiger and Colorado has an alive Buffalo.

CW no hard feelings. It is still Sweet Home Alabama, and we do need a need Wal Mart with a dedicated parking lot.

Seems like everytime a player from an opposing team makes a comment like that, their team loses. I’m a Bama fan myself and I think Georgia has an excellent team. And I think the players should keep their big mouths shut. The best team will win and if it’s Georgia, I will certainly be pulling for them in the National Championship game.

People please,if Bama has to look to something Rambo or any other player says to get motivated then they are going to have a long day Saturday. The reality is outside of the offensive line and the placekicker it was actually pretty accurate based on their performance this year.Bamai is a good team and will show up and play like one too,but this Georgia team is also a very talented bunch and they are playing like a team that has a goal in mind and I think they back Rambo up come Saturday.

You won’t have to worry about a Bama player running his mouth. Saban won’t let them. UGA, PLEASE let your players continue to run their big mouths! It only helps Bama. How about getting another UGA booster to run another fake ad like they did in the AJC before the FL game to tell UGA how awful they are. Seems to be the only way UGA can get their boys up for a game. Please keep running your mouths and keep your boosters off of the phone with the AJC ad department.

Yeah, Bacarri…you’re absolutely right. And guess what: We were more talented than Oklahoma State in 2009. We were more talented that Mississippi State or Colorado in 2010. We were more talented than Boise State last year. We are more talented than South Carolina THIS year. So what?
Keep your damn mouth shut and be ready to PROVE who’s best on the field, where it counts.

Rambo: “We have better players at each position, across the board, especially on defense.”

Prove it.

I want desperately to believe that, but talk is cheap.

I get that he’s trying to pull a Shawn Williams move, but Williams called out his own team, not the opposition. Not smart, but if he and the rest of the defense backs it up, Rambo will be a legend.

To all the intellectual UGA fans out there, i.e. (JB, kerryb, jona, dennis). UGA has the superior more talented Off. and Def. from what you people are saying. Granted they are a talented team or they would not be in the Championship game, but if we are all going to sling “facts” around, here are a few more. Since the beating UGA took from USC, the Dawgs have been on a tare through the likes of Ga Tech, Ga southern, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida (off day for the Gators), and let us not forget that 5 point waxing victory over Kentucky. While on the other hand Bama has dominated the teams that they were obviously better than, did find a way to win against LSU when Mettenberger played the game of his life, and managed to lose by 5 points to an A&M team who is actually on fire right now, and would probably monkey stomp UGA, not to mention a QB who if not for being a freshman might win the Heisman. Since we all like to look at numbers to make our predictions, how can anyone say that they know one team has better talent across the board than the other. Maybe if you only look at certain stats and only look at them from the view point you choose, then maybe you can try to say that UGA is more talented across the board. Who knows, maybe after the game you can jump back off the Richt bandwagon agian, as usual, and blame the loss on Coaching. But he is just to nice of a guy to fire!

I don’t mind that Rambo spoke up. If the Georgia players don’t walk on that field believing they can win, they never will. UGA needs to demonstrate aggressive confidence (not stupid smack talk…there is a difference). Rambo has made huge plays all year and I want him focused on living up to his promise of high performance. Alabama is not an NFL team…despite early year comments to the contrary…and they are certainly not undefeated, nor are they last year’s team. They are good. Georgia is good. Turnovers will be key. I’m tired of “experts” hyping ND and Bama constantly. Georgia has a legitimate chance to win this game and that’s enough for this fan. Proud of you DAWGS, keep it up.

Everyone has a right to an opinion, Rambo (what a name, yo) included. I’m sure a bunch of the UGA boys will be talking up smack on the field throughout the night.

I expect alot of barking from junkyard dogs.

Seriously, I agree this is not Bama’s best team, and this MAY be UGAs best in quite some time. And with only one week to prepare, CNS has his hands full this week. This is where he earns his paycheck, remember that. But I expect Bama to be fully prepared. One interesting tidbit…UA plays best at home, while Bama plays better on the road. Something has gotta give.

Players often talk, exagerate, and bragg and that is what I would say Rambo is doing. Confidence is a good thing, although I am “Old School” so to speak and would rather not bragging about how good I am and letting my actions speak for themselves. There are plenty of journalists and prognosticators making these kind of predictions, so I would simply say that “I believe we have a very good team and that we can hold our own against anyone,” then let my play show how good I am. I don’t think Rambo is “wrong”, but that would not be my style and it is not the style I would want my players portraying.

Living in Atlanta I see and hear a lot about Georgia and as a Bama fan I know a lot about the team. While I think Georgia is definitely on a roll, it is hard to understand why there is so much optimism about their chances Saturday. I have seen them struggle against every opponent except maybe GA Tech and the Florida game was one of the worst I have ever seen in my life (9 turnovers, 24 penalties between the two.) with all of this Georgia hype this week, once again Dawg Nation is set up for a major disappointment. I don’t think they have better talent at all and they certainly are not as disciplined. It’s over by the start of the fourth quarter.
