UGA’s Rambo: “I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama)”

One of UGA’s veteran defenders has provided some of the first bulletin board material of the week in advance of Saturday’s SEC Championship showdown between the Bulldogs and Alabama.

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)

UGA safety Bacarri Rambo went on ESPN radio after Saturday’s blowout win over Georgia Tech and said some words that will surely get the attention of Nick Saban:

“I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama). We have better players at each position, across the board, especially on defense. It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I know it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to come down to who has the best defense and who makes more turnovers. It’s going to be a battle of the defenses.”

Which defense is better?

What do you think? Is Rambo correct? Is UGA’s defense better than Alabama’s? And if so, should Rambo have made the remark? If not, why not? Please post below.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game will match up No. 2 Alabama versus No. 3 Georgia. Please check back all week for the AJC’s coverage of “SEC Championship Week”

“Murray is no Johnny Manziel? He’s only thrown for 3,000 yards 3 years in a row which no other QB has ever done. Thrown for 89 TD passes and is #1 rated passer in college football. I guess you can say that Johnny Manziel is no Aaron Murray.”–Kerry

Good point. Kerry, but you can’t overlook the INTANGIBLES…. like Aaron Murray has not shown that he gets up for the big game. Johnny Football is a FRESHMAN and has shown that he has ALL of the intangibles. The only stat that matters is WINS and LOSSES.

Not worried about what Rambo says, just question the intelligence of the remark. Seriously, why give them bulletin board material? Just doesn’t make sense.

DP, I also believe Murray made a great read and throw to Mitchell with the blitz in his face to beat UF. I didn’t see him throw up on it.

I don’t think it is a case of Murray getting up for these games. I think it is that he is too jacked up for them and overthrows the ball in the first half. He looked great in the first half of the LSU game but his receivers didn’t help him out dropping catchable TD passes.

DP, you want to knock Murray all the time but you never want to give him credit when he made some good throws against UF on that game winning drive. When we have struggled against good defenses it is always Murray’s fault. I guess what happened against SC was his fault too even though his O-line was blocking no one and he was taking a beating.

Kerryb-
Since you seem to have all of the answers, let me ask you a question. Why can’t Georgia’s offense move the football against top 10 or top 20 defenses? Is it playcalling or execution?

kerryb, who do you think you’re kidding? Murray’s throw to a wide open Mitchell was a routine 10 yard out. Mitchell’s run after the catch was the play. Murray stunk up the joint against South Carolina and Florida, as he done in virtually every big game he’s played at Georgia. I’m not saying he will do it again against Alabama, but that’s his history as all but the most Delusional must acknowledge.

The best kind of football is smart football. And it’s smart to just keep your mouth shut about the other team except to say that they have a lot of talent and you respect their program, yada yada yada. And leave it at that. Don’t give them any fodder of any type to latch onto in order to manufacture any extra motivation than they already have.

Kerry, everyone KNOWS Aaron is a great Quarterback, but he has not shown up in several big games which is concerning. Don’t take it so personally, but the jury is still out on Aaron Murray playing his best in a BIG game…. like the SEC CG.

I think it is probably true, the people on tv have been saying it for weeks. They’ve been saying UGA has more NFL caliber players on defense then any other team in the nation. However, as we have seen before with this team and defense, having more talent doesn’t mean you play better. I think he should’ve kept his big mouth shut, but it’s too late now.

This is basically the same Georgia team that lost the 2011 SEC championship 41-10 just last year against LSU who eventually lost to Alabama in the BCS championship. I see improvement this year over last year’s team but not enough to beat Alabama.

NOTHING in the past matters. Why do people come here to talk the past…Scores, blackouts, or history…ALL that matters is Sat. Nothing else. Strap it on tight, dont give up any cheap points and make Bama earn every point. This is going to be a very physical game and you can bet N.Dame fans will be amazed of how physical it gets. I think this will be a high scoring affair. Ga only wins if turnovers are minimized and Murray gets in rhythm. Bama is an outstanding team. Tell the gate keeper to lock the gate cause nobody is leaving till this 60 min brawl is over. Go Dawgs.

John Hulk,

Better running backs, qbs, safetys? What are ya smoking son? AJ McCarron is in the Heisman discussion. Murray is not. Linebackers? Bama is loaded with them and has 2-3 that will be in the pros. Safetys? Alabama has an All-American in Robert Lester and at corner we have the top corner for the upcoming Draft in Dee Milliner.

Offensive line? Puh-leeze! Bama has 3 guys that will go 1st round this year. DJ Fluker, Chance Warmack are certain 1st rounders and Barret Jones is the reigning Outland trophy winner.

Running backs? Seriously? Eddie Lacy is a 1,000 yard rusher and freshman phenom TJ Yeldon will hit 1,000 yards and is flat out better than that Gurshall tandem that fails to show in big time games.

4 no. 1 rated recruiting classes in 5 years at Bama. Your talent level isn’t anywhere near the depth of what Bama brings to the table. Our massive O-line is going to chew up your D-line and spit it out like used tobacco.

Who has GA beaten this season? ONE team thats any good, just the Gators. And that game was a mutual crapfest with FL serving up 6 turnovers.

I saw the GA So. game two weeks ago and frankly, GA didn’t look very good. I know that GA had to pull away late to beat MO….somehow let absolutely awful KY hang around the entire game….went to OT against wretched Tennessee and gave up 44 points in the process….got whipped 35-7 to SC…..let Buffalo think they were in the game in the 2nd half….let’s face it, GT blows…as does Auburn.
This GA “juggernaut” can certainly win Saturday night. This is not ALA of 2011…but, the GA coaching staff is underwhelming. The stupid penalties, the constant showboat crap, the trash talking, the mental mistakes….GA is not exactly a well oiled machine.
The Rambo comments were stupid. But, the fact that he made them is an indication that he certainly does not fear his coach. I promise you that not a word will come from Tuscaloosa this week…
Loose lips….sink ships.
