UGA’s Rambo: “I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama)”

One of UGA’s veteran defenders has provided some of the first bulletin board material of the week in advance of Saturday’s SEC Championship showdown between the Bulldogs and Alabama.

UGA safety Bacarri Rambo went on ESPN radio after Saturday’s blowout win over Georgia Tech and said some words that will surely get the attention of Nick Saban:

“I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama). We have better players at each position, across the board, especially on defense. It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I know it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to come down to who has the best defense and who makes more turnovers. It’s going to be a battle of the defenses.”

Which defense is better?

What do you think? Is Rambo correct? Is UGA’s defense better than Alabama’s? And if so, should Rambo have made the remark? If not, why not? Please post below.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game will match up No. 2 Alabama versus No. 3 Georgia. Please check back all week for the AJC’s coverage of “SEC Championship Week”

Chief Tuskaloosa is notable for leading the Battle of Mabila at his fortified village against the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto. After being taken hostage by the Spanish as they passed through his territory, Tuskaloosa organized a surprise attack on his captors at Mabila, but was ultimately defeated.

Contemporary records describe the paramount chief as being very tall and well built, with some of the chroniclers saying Tuaskaloosa stood a foot and a half taller than the Spaniards. His name, derived from the western Muskogean language elements taska and losa, means “Black Warrior”.

I’m saying Richt and Grantham on phone this week to friends who have had success against Bama.
I only worry about Bobo going into a play calling funk. This won’t be Tech or Auburn where everything in the play book works.

It’s the SEC Championship. Nobody needs “extra” motivation and nothing anybody says is going to make a lick of difference once toe meets leather.

“We know how you feel, 32 years of pain can end DEC 1 and it will!”

Didn’t we win this game in ‘02 and ‘05? There’s been some recent pain, but I wouldn’t go that far.

I am sure both teams are very confident. If not, they wouldn’t be 11-1.

Alabama is real good.

Rambo is right. Last year Bama had the top defense with players poised to be first round draft picks. This year it is Georgia. Bama proved itself vulnerable on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball against LSU and Texas A & M. I don’t know how A.J. McCarron can be considered a better quarterback than Aaron Murray, when he leads McCarron in most statistics. Should Rambo have stated it, and given Alabama more incentive than they already have. No. He could have said Georgia is a match for Alabama position by position. I doubt Saban will let his player run their mouths before the game.

Grantham has many reasons to have the guys ready. This body of Work At UGA would make him a million per year + hire at any football school as a DC. Hope he’s going nowhere, but lot’s jobs open and folks looking to build a defense.

Let’s see. Talent vs Discipline football. Both teams are fairly even as far as talent. Bring in disciplined football and I give it to Alabama. Just ask the 2004 USA basketball squad. They had the most talented team but got beat and wound up with the bronze. Put up or shut up, Rambo.

Dawgs are playing better each week, and, as Saban observed, we are playing as well as any team right now.
Timing is everything, right?
As for Rambo’s comment, I agree with what PJ wrote way up above.
First of all, Rambo’s remark will not make much, if any, difference in the outcome. However, there can be a fine line between saying something like “I got bigger fish to fry” and saying you’re more talented than the other team. Overall, the comment is OK, but not necessary. But, it may resonate in Alabama’s head a little, and work to our benefit.
I don’t feel anything like the night we played LSU for the SEC Championship; I was certain we would lose. This Saturday, I have no such trepidation; we may lose, but we can win if we play up to our ability.
Go Dawgs.

Hey, IF he thinks that it’s true and the dawgs are ready to back it up, run that mouth all day long!! Fact: We do have a better defense than bama. We have 9 players on that side of the ball with 1st or 2nd round draft grade. UGA is going to be more than ready to play this game. I honestly think were going to beat them by 10 or more. Mark Richt owns satan and I hope he is preparing his team to get punched in the freaking mouth. DAWGS ROLL!! To HELL with bama!! GO DAWGS!!!

Guys, need to ignore Bama folks this week. Every Trailer and common area in prisons in Bama with a computer gonna be spewing trash this week. Thought the A&M whupping would slow in Down, bit it didn’t………And just a question about fairness. If the Dawgs were #1 this late in the season and lost 2 weeks ago, who on here thinks the BCS God’s would have us a #2 for a shot two weeks AFTER losing this late…….Yea, correct….not a chance in Hell. TV wants Bama….and is pulling for them in every way.

The quarterbacks that will square off Saturday rank 1-2 in the nation in passing efficiency. Georgia’s Aaron Murray has a rating of 177.15 and AJ McCarron comes in a close second with 176.26. The next best’s rating is six points fewer than McCarron’s.

And I emailed McGarity that we ought to drop Tech until Johnson is gone. ( 11 of 12, nothing left to prove) due to the career ending blocking schemes taught by him. Going into the SECCG with National title games on line like this year, no use risking our defensive front to cheap shots at the knees every play.

As GT was obviously the lesser team..I could only wish that UGA player get injured when UGA continued to pass and attempt to rollup the score when the game was WELL in hand… I could only hope that the starters got injured… Why play the starters when the game is out of control other than to show your ARROGANCE and EGOTISM… What a bunch of THUGS
