One of UGA’s veteran defenders has provided some of the first bulletin board material of the week in advance of Saturday’s SEC Championship showdown between the Bulldogs and Alabama.

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)
UGA safety Bacarri Rambo went on ESPN radio after Saturday’s blowout win over Georgia Tech and said some words that will surely get the attention of Nick Saban:
“I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama). We have better players at each position, across the board, especially on defense. It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I know it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to come down to who has the best defense and who makes more turnovers. It’s going to be a battle of the defenses.”
What do you think? Is Rambo correct? Is UGA’s defense better than Alabama’s? And if so, should Rambo have made the remark? If not, why not? Please post below.
Saturday’s SEC Championship game will match up No. 2 Alabama versus No. 3 Georgia. Please check back all week for the AJC’s coverage of “SEC Championship Week”

Way to go Crambo. More fuel for the Saban fire. UGA gets killed by a “less talented” team. And good, then Dogg fans will shut up

Before Rambo’s comment, we had a chance to sneak in there and upset Alabama. No more. Rambo’s comment just cost Coach Richt a possible $1,000,000. Richt’s incentives are: SEC champ – $200,000. BCS championship game – $300,000. National Championship – $500,000.

Here’s Saban’s quotes on no huddle:
“[The no-huddle]’s obviously created a tremendous advantage for the offense when teams are scoring 70 points and we’re averaging 49.5 points a game,” Saban said on an SEC coaches teleconference, as quoted by the Birmingham News. “With people that do those kinds of things, more and more people are going to do it.
“I just think there’s got to be some sense of fairness in terms of asking, ‘Is this what we want football to be?’ ”
But Saban wasn’t just arguing against the no-huddle over its lack of “fairness” to the defenses — he views it as a safety hazard as well.
“At some point in time, we should look at how fast we allow the game to go in terms of player safety,” Saban said. “The team gets in the same formation group, you can’t substitute defensive players, you go on a 14-, 16-, 18-play drive and they’re snapping the ball as fast as you can go and you look out there and all your players are walking around and can’t even get lined up.
And people still think Bama is just going to blow us out. LMAO!!!

@Dawgboy, if THOSE comments cost us the game then we had no shot to begin with.
Anyone who thinks either team needs bulletin board material is crazy. If a chance to play in the national championship game isn’t enough motivation to get you fired up to play your best, most passionate football, then nothing is.
Sheesh get real people. or as AR Dawg pointed out, I suppose I should say get real TROLLS.

It doesn’t matter what Rambo said. Bama was going to bring it anyway. UGA has the ultimate lack of respect card. If the Dawgs come out and open a can on Bama the way they did on UF, it will be a sad day for Bama. UF would beat Bama. Their D is definitely better. They play the pass better. The Dawgs should just look to top that intensity and it will be a game to be remembered for a LONG time.

It’s be okay with me if there was more smack talked to back up. Neither team needs BB material for this game. NC is enough and they will both be bringing all they have.
Jville Dawg, Saban is opposed to the hurry up offenses because it doesn’t allow him to substitute his defense in the manner he would prefer. His defenses are predicated on fresh legs and lungs. One can do that with extra depth

NC Dawg – you’re right about the lack of respect card. I think few people outside of DawgNation give us any chance in this game. The two games that get me excited about our chances are the LSU and Tex A&M game they played.
I know a lot of people look to how bad we lost to SC, but forget the main reason the offense struggled was we lost our #1 WR in Bennett late in practice on Thurs before the game. There was ZERO prep time to address that. It’s why his timing was off and the offense never got into any kind of rhythm. Injuries are a part of the game, but you usually lose guys during a game to injuries like that. Rare that you lose them the last day of game prep in practice.
Bama lost Kenny Bell, but will all week to practice with his replacement and make adjustments.

Based on this blog, it appears that Bammers are the more consistent trash talkers! Let’s see you go to a Georgia Web-site to trash Georgia’s (and Rambo’s) comments! Seems to me that the team with the most bulliten board material is Bama! These responses by Alabama fans is just “fear” disguised as confidence. If you’re so confident why would you feel the need to go on a Georgia web-site? After all, according to ya’ll the game is already over – case closed! Rambo was just answering an honest question! Get over it bammers! Your worst fear might be your Saturday reality! Go dawgs!

True or not I wish Barcari just would have kept that comment to himself. I’m not so worried about our defense as Iam being able to run the ball to open up the passing game.
Bama is the best in the SEC until someone knocks them off. You won’t see this guy knock Bama, I respect what they have accomplished.

Rambo shooting off his mouth shows that this team has no disipline. Richt will never win the MNC Kool Aid Drinkers. UGA has nothing but a bunch of prima donna’s instead of a team who will do their talking on the football field with a break their will mentality. Bama 38 Dawgs 16.

Why are you guys getting all up in arms?? This is the SEC championship game, if Bama needs more motivation than a trip to the NC then UGA already has the edge. No matter what is said off the field, the fact still remains that the game will be decided on the field Saturday at 4 p.m. Lastly Rambo is actually right. UGA has 4 first rounders just on D and about 15-17 who will go pro this year.

AR Dawg I agree SC punched us in the mouth no doubt, but c’mon, anyone who thinks MB’s absence didn’t make a huge difference is fooling themselves. Go back and look at the game and count the number of dropped passes MB most likely would have caught, the miss ran routes, and the timing that was off. Not nessecarily saying we would have won the game or not, but if MB is in that game it isn’t 35-7 for sure.

I recall a “black-out” a few years back. Not sure what that did for UGA. Now Rambo is talking… it won’t make a difference. They’ll both strap it on Saturday afternoon and both teams will hit hard. I think the matchup is actually pretty even myself. I give Bama an ever so slight edge only because we have been there lately (NC last 2 of 3 and 8th SECCG appearance). Not to say UGA can’t win because we all know they could… it’ll be tough win for either team – and either will have earned their right to play ND in the BCS NC game. Roll Tide!

Hell yeah we missed MB. More specifically his blocking. IMHO. the SC game was total coaching failure. They were not prepared for that game and the strengths of SC went unheeded. Our OL was soft and allowed the SC defense to stay in Murray’s grill. There was no preparation for that

“Apparently John hasn’t watched any Georgia games since the Kentucky game.”
Apparently kerryb has not looked at the stellar offenses UGA has played since the Kentucky game. Florida’s offense is not great. I just think it is foolish UGA fans act like Bama’s defense is trash. Is it as good as last years which you could make a case for possibly being the best all-time? No but it is still a great defense and if you are being objective, I think you would trade UGA’s defense for Bama’s.

Thats actually not what he said. He never mentioned Bama. Notice the (than alabama) part is in parenthesis and not quotations. He said he felt like they were more talented than anyone in the country. Quite interesting that no one from the AJC put their name on this article. Just irresponsible journalism. Typical media jackhole trying to stir up stuff.

I’d say there was at least an equal chance that what Rambo said putting a fire under his own team mates, than the risk that the Alabama players are actually going to do a better job to prove him wrong. I would also bet you that he was responding to a broader question in an interview and this is what they clipped out of it.
That being said, it actually makes ZERO difference either way.
I only WISH that sort of thing had some effect on the Alabama players. I’d take them relying on bulletin board material for motivation, over sound fundamental play all day long.
There is some danger of too much trash (which this was not) becoming a distraction, and I am sure both staffs are going to watch that.

Just look at the numbers:
Bama Points per game allowed: 9.2
UGA Points per game allowed: 17.7
Bama Average yards allowed: 233.7
UGA Average yards allowed: 337.8
Bama also leads UGA in PPG on offense and is only 30 yards behind in yards per game.
It will be a great game. I am just tired of UGA fans acting like Bama’s defense is below average bc they had one bad quarter against the best offense in the country.

Third party here, but making comments has no effect on the field, not Rambo’s comment, nor the old man comment by Florida (the six turnovers did). I don’t believe Ga will be able to run the ball consistantly, so they better be prepared to protect the QB (remember SC)…Ga on the other hand, must be able to slow the Al run game with seven in the box or face the play action, that I believe makes Al tuff to contain…

What I don’t understand is why the winner between Georgia and Alabama will pay Notre Dame. We haven’t started the elimination tournament yet, so explain to me why the winner is rewarded to play Notre Dame. There are other teams with only one loss, so what gives? Florida, Kansas State and so on. This isn’t right, but no one seems to care from those teams and I know I would be upset losing one game and being left out in the Game Of The Year.

Rambo is right but players don’t win Football games, teams do and Alabama has the better team.
This is Richt chance to get more out his players and make them a real team for a change. A Vince Dooley couched team with this much talent would blow Alabama or Notre Dame out of the stadium.

When you play for a team you expect your team to win, so that’s why Alabama lost against Texas A&M and A&M didn’t come out, and say they were going to beat them, but I did predict a loss for Alabama for that game and teams can lose games as Alabama found out. I predicted a loss because Alabama wasn’t playing like the real Alabama the week before. What I and maybe others don’t understand is why ( Georgia ) will play Notre Dame since other teams are also undefeated? I only pick teams I know will win and sadly for Alabama they will lose to Georgia.

JoSe ND is right now today no.1 Bama is no.2 and UGA is no3….what is not fair is that no2 and no3 will have to play and the winner will fall to around 7-8 and ND doesn’t have to play anyone to stay at no.1 until the NC game so cry me a river the victim here is not ND or any of the other one loss schools its Bama or UGA ….

1980 and watched my dawgs beat Notre dame ..if we want to get back there we need to shut up and then do our talking through our performance. You know sometimes I think the journalists who interview these young athletes are running a pool to see if they can start enough smack

If I were UGA fans I would more worried about which team would show up Sat.; the one who lost to SC, barely beat KY, had to hang on to beat UT or the one who had 6 turnovers handed to them and beat UF by 4. How is my QB who has beaten 1 top 20 team in his career(UF) and tried his best to throw it back to the Gators will pefrorm. Don’t discount the fact you should win with expierence since UA has only 9 seniors but has many coaches and players been in lot of big games over the last 3 years. Tradition helps
