UGA’s Rambo: “I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama)”

One of UGA’s veteran defenders has provided some of the first bulletin board material of the week in advance of Saturday’s SEC Championship showdown between the Bulldogs and Alabama.

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)

UGA's Mark Richt (AP)

UGA safety Bacarri Rambo went on ESPN radio after Saturday’s blowout win over Georgia Tech and said some words that will surely get the attention of Nick Saban:

“I feel like we’re more talented (than Alabama). We have better players at each position, across the board, especially on defense. It’s going to be a great challenge for us. I know it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to come down to who has the best defense and who makes more turnovers. It’s going to be a battle of the defenses.”

Which defense is better?

What do you think? Is Rambo correct? Is UGA’s defense better than Alabama’s? And if so, should Rambo have made the remark? If not, why not? Please post below.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game will match up No. 2 Alabama versus No. 3 Georgia. Please check back all week for the AJC’s coverage of “SEC Championship Week”

I heard the sound bite that spawned this gem of an article and prayed it would just fade away. Thanks AJC for conjuring up this trash. Anybody else notice nobody cared to sign their name to this article? For all the Tech fans that think this newspaper favors one team over another, here is your answer. Rambo, why on earth would you give Bama any more fuel for the fire? Saban will be playing this like a fiddle 24/7. Our job just got 100% more difficult. Come on AJC, just pull this article and lets settle it on the field. How bout it Dawgnation, would you like to see this article pulled?

I watched GA play Kentucky and Tenn and to tell you the truth did not think much of the GA team I remember last year GA was saying there D was as good as LSU and we all know what happened in that game Should have learned from that one GA just have fun and shut up because after this yr look out here comes Florida again and looks like years to come Your mouth is why its so easy for a lot of people to not like GA You have done nothing to back it. Not even a Bama fan here but watch how they take care of business learn from it they have been there done that.enough said

It means nothing..Georgia still crushed them.Last season Alabama allowed nearly 400 yards to Georgia Southern but won the game by 3 touchdowns. What’s your point?

@USMC Dawg

Good point. Kerry, but you can’t overlook the INTANGIBLES…. like Aaron Murray has not shown that he gets up for the big game. Johnny Football is a FRESHMAN and has shown that he has ALL of the intangibles. The only stat that matters is WINS and LOSSES.
—————————————————————————————————————————–
How may SEC games has Murry’s team won? How many has Texas A&M won under Manzeil? So using your logic which is more efficent?

Okay, not wise. Dumb in fact. This is something you say AFTER the game…….if you win. Well done Rambo, you just fired up Bama. We will see who has the best defense Saturday, but this poll is a bad idea. There is no way GA can claim to have a better defense. That is just dumb. All the facts prove that Bama does…..even over the last few weeks……it’s been a while since Bama has been scored on. BTW, bad idea to even print this article.

Better to be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.

Georgia backed into this game big time and is about to get embarrassed for all to see. Rambo and UGA fans don’t understand that talent is only a starting point. Auburn has two top three national recruiting classes on its roster. What did that get them?

You have to have player development through great coaching, and that’s where Georgia has always fallen short. Georgia will be badly out-coached in the SEC Championship game.

Tech put up 400+ yards of offense on that defense and their lack of discipline and incompetence kept them from scoring. What do you think a team like Alabama, that doesn’t have those bad football team problems, is concerned about with Georgia’s D? As an impartial observer on both sides I think UGA is a product of their schedule. Carolina, FL, and Vandy are the only Division 1 teams they have played with a winning record. GSU is a Div 2 team. Everyone else they have played is .500 or a lost worse. Alabama can at least say they have played 4 high ranked teams coming into this game. I just don’t know, they are in the game so anything can happen. I saw UGA beat a lot of mediocre to really bad football teams and go 1-1 against actual competition. Plus UF gave them the ball 6 times and it was still a struggle up to the end. Bama has their problems as well, I think they are better coached though.

well, Alabama won two national championships games in the last 3 years an might win the 3rd. out of 4 years so bark on sounds like Darrell who call the Finebaum show . Yes Bama beat LSU at their place after a bye week for them an Texas a&m had two weeks to prepare for a tired Alabama game . that just finnsh beating a undefended Miss. State . This seem to have woken up a sleep gaint now and fellows ya are next ! Roll Tide Remember ya’ll late game playing Bama in GA. ya’ll all fired up dress in black an i think it was 31 to 7 at the half and Bama won in the GA. Dome ! This is why Ga. almost got coach Rick fired . Darrell from GA said now we just put ASuburn down by 38 points so lets see how Alabam does ,ok it was 49 to 0 after the half an didn’t play the starters the whole second half ! Lets see what happens when saturday comes !Roll TIDE

It never works to run your mouth before a big game! Jeez, shut the heck up and prove your point on the field. I’m a huge Georgia fan but several of the comments before mine are accurate. Georgia lacks the discipline and self control that Alabama brings to the game. Work on that and hopefully you can pull this one off.

I think the game will be great, I am looking forward to it and will be there to watch. Who has the better players, defense? Who knows, but statistically Bama is better, and although it is very close, if you believe in recruiting rankings, Bama has won that battle as well. However, the good news is it will be decided on the field. I think if both teams play their absolute best game, Bama wins by 7, if not then who knows.

What is he suppose to say to the media? “Alabama the greatest that has ever been, we should not show up, it is impossible to beat them”? Media types have always asked the set up questions to have something two report. I think Alabama does not need any media to get them ready nor do I think Ga needs any media to get them ready. I wish the players were banned from talking to the media. The media would not have a job to report sports. That would be a great concept.
