SEC Championship “cheap seats” priced around $400

Chip Towers, the AJC’s beat writer for UGA, may have said it best: If you thought it was hard for Georgia to make the SEC Championship game, try getting a ticket in the Georgia Dome for Saturday’s game.

It’s one of the most expensive non-Bowl tickets in college football.

On Sunday night, the cheapest ticket on StubHub.com was $320 – and that doesn’t include shipping and handling (It ends up being closer to $400).

And those were seats in the upper, upper section of the Georgia Dome and in the corner of the end zone. But at least you could say you were there, right?

What if you’re a Georgia fan, you think this is the first must-see game since the 1980 national championship, and you want tickets on the 50-yard line? Those will run you anywhere from $794 to $1,176. Maybe an early Christmas gift to yourself?

The winner of Alabama-Georgia will advance to the BCS championship game.

And if you’re confident of your team winning, whether it be Alabama or Georgia, and you want to see them play in the BCS Championship? You may get “deal” if you buy the tickets early. They are starting at $1,588 on StubHub. Tickets on the 50 are between $5,000 and $13,500.

Makes the SEC Championship game seem like a bargain, eh?

Tickets for the ACC Championship in Charlotte start at $4.50.

Nope, The ACC Champ has been settled on the field. The Dogs beat the Gators, so the Dogs are the ACC champ.

That total for tickets doesn’t include the nice hefty service charge that the ticket brokers charge inaddition to the price of the ticket.

$400 for a nosebleed seat at the dome—are you serious?? Instead, I’m buying a new 55 inch LED TV for $797 and will watch the game with tons of beer, burgers, wings and Jack Daniels and not have to deal with all that dome rif raf and angry atlanta police!

Cheap seats for the ACC Championship should run you about $25. Or there may be a give away. If you promise to just show up, we will just give you the tickets. And this is coming from a VERY frustrated FSU grad/fan. Does anyone know anybody at the Big 12 or SEC that will let us in? Oh and does anyone have $50 million we can have as our exit penalty? We are willing to be your Homecoming opponent (SEC or Big 12) for the next few years until we “relearn” the sport of football. The ACC is DESTROYING FSU athletics and our university administration is too stupid to realize it. God, I pray for the dismantling of the ACC so bad I can taste it!!!!!!

Unreal that tickets would be so high as this is just taking advantage of the regular fan! I wouldn’t pay face value since the price is still too high!!! This would be a great time for fans to thumb their noses at the ticket prices and not GO or pay these DUMB prices as this would send a message loud and clear!!!

Enough Said!!!

I would think FSU and Clemson would fit better in the SEC. They have SEC-sized stadiums and fan-bases, SEC-worthy pedigrees, and already have to play SEC rivals every year. FSU’s baseball team would fit right in with the baseball powerhouses of the SEC. Yeah, conference championships in football would be REALLY hard to win, but the new playoff format would mean the 2nd or 3rd SEC team would still have a shot at the national championship each year. All the extra bowl money, TV contract money, and ticket/merchandise sales could pay off the $50 million buyout pretty quick.

A few years ago, me and a buddy went to the Clemson-GA Tech Thursday night game in Atlanta. I was wearing a UGA shirt, he was wearing a South Carolina shirt. Thirty minutes before kickoff we bought two tickets on the 40 yard line for $20 total.

The SEC and the ACC are quite different, to say the least.
