UGA baseball player arrested

Patrick Kyle Carter

Patrick Kyle Carter

University of Georgia baseball player Patrick Kyle Carter was arrested Sunday morning on alcohol-related charges.

Carter, 19, remained in the Athens Clarke County jail Monday on charges of public intoxication and underage possession of alcohol, according to jail records. Bond was set at $500 on each charge.

It was the second arrest in three months for Carter, a freshman pitcher from Columbus. He was charged with possession of a weapon in a school zone, a felony, and misdemeanor simple assault after he allegedly threatened a woman with a baseball bat Aug. 19. Carter denied he threatened the woman and said he was only trying to get her to leave his dorm room.

This guy needs to be dismissed immediately. The first infraction of having a firearm in a school zone should have been enough.

uga1984, know your facts before assuming the kid was carrying a firearm. I am not excusing the behavior of Carter, but he pointed a baseball bat at a female and told her to leave his residence. The bat is being considered a weapon.

It wasn’t a firearm, it was a baseball bat. He treatened someone with the bat to make them leave his room which evidently makes it a weapon. If he had not been a athlete he never would have been charged.

Doesn’t have to be a gun to be a weapon you UGA morons! Kid has had severe issues ever since he won LLWS. He is death on feet..the question is will he take someone else out before he gets whacked by his own hand.

It’s college they drink alcohol. I guess people writing about Bama have never been to T town. Lol samething goes on at every campus! Innocent until proven guilty with the weapon charges. Everyone makes a mistake. Also ACC targets athletes trust me I was friends with athletes ( fball players ) when I attended UGA.

Posts on this blog are hilarious on so many levels, as is the original article. First, across the state of Georgia, how many high school and college kids got in trouble over the weekend for underage drinking? Yet this is the only “headline” in the AJC, because it involves an athlete from UGA. Second, the “outrage” by the posters is pretty hollow, unless none of them EVER used alcohol while underage, never had a kid who did so, or never ever got behind the wheel of a car after drinking. (Not drunk mind you, but after a couple of glasses of wine or two beers, enough to cause slowed reflexes and impairment.) Third, the AJC hasn’t had a “headline” about ANY college baseball story short of the occasional college workd series piece, so why do they suddenly care?

UGA annually ranks among the top “party schools” so nobody should pretend they are shocked that some of the 26000 undergrads use alcohol. (Tech has a had a few drunk enough to fall out of the stadium this year, so lack of an actual college-type active music/social scene evidently doesn’t prevent alcohol abuse.) Kids in college drink. Kids in high school drink. Some of them are on scholarships of various types. If your kid is getting some Hope money and they get caught drinking, do you want their scholarship pulled and for them to be kicked out of school?

yes, he was the boy who pitched for Columbus in the LLWS. he was dominate back then. It is funny to see people ‘assume’ that the weapon was a firearm though.. what is it you do when you ‘assume’?

No surprise……anyone who watched that Columbus team closely could see it coming. Sometimes a coach needs to look beyond the ERA and batting average and check out the character, morals and ethics of players who will be coming into the program…..

With all the things to discuss in the college sports world now this makes the “Sports now” section?!?! I agree that this kid should be sent packing for 2 offenses, but c’mon..as stated he’s a college kid that got drunk and happens to be fortunate enough to have the chance to play a sport in college. But is he taking that for granted anymore than the other 18-22 yr olds driving the $40,000+ cars, living in nice apartments and experiencing the college life? Apparently so. Shame on the Red and Black (or Athens TMZ training school) for feeding this already sensationalism paper with this “news” Geez…live and let live a little.

He should be acquitted of the felony charge since the ‘Dawgs can’t hit, anyway, so that bat isn’t really “lethal”.

In a college town, students will drink. To say it’s only at UGA is nonsense. The Barney Fifes on campus and off fill their arrest quotas, and self-righteous boobs rant about it all. I wonder what kind of “woman” is in a guy’s dorm room and refuses to leave. If Carter had pushed her out the door instead of just holding up a bat, I guess he’d be charge with battery also. BUT, a student drinking is a bad idea which often leads to a bad result. It’s just not usually in the newspaper.
