The New Orleans Saints — still trying to put the infamous “Bountygate” scandal behind them — are calling the Falcons “classless” after handing Atlanta its first loss of the season Sunday.
From USA Today:
“They were talking (expletive) to our guy Curtis Lofton,” Saints linebacker Scott Shanle told Mike Silver on Sunday night. “I couldn’t even understand them. They were just walking all over our drills trying to mess with him. (Linebacker Jonathan) Vilma went and told their coach it was classless and they didn’t even say anything. It set the tone for the day. It was classless and they got what they deserved.”
Lofton is a former Falcon playing in his first season with the Saints.
Vilma, by the way, is only playing while he appeals a year-long suspension for allegedly participating in a program that paid players for injuring opposing players.
Some of the Saints players were also offended by a dance video made by Atlanta safety William Moore.
The “D-Block” rap video was posted on the Falcons’ website over the weekend.
“That video would never be allowed nor would our players make a video like that in our locker room,” NBC’s Pro Football Talk quoted an unidentified “Saints source.”
Of course, the Falcons have done their part to stoke the rivalry, which has been dominated in recent years by the Saints.
Last week, Roddy White told the Journal-Constitution:
“I don’t like nothing about the Saints. The colors. The city. Nothing. But they’ve got some good food, though. Other than the food, nothing.”
After Sunday’s game, White refused to credit the Saints.
“It’s not like they came out here and won a game,” he said. “I think we kind of gave it to them.”
Shanle, however, told Yahoo! Sports that Sunday’s result just proves the Saints “own” the Falcons.
“They’re like our little brothers. Deep down they know they can’t mess with us even when we are having a down year,” he said.

Pay for Performance has been going on since the inception of the league. If you do not realize that by now you are totally out of the loop on what goes on in professional football. Everyone “GOT PAID” to perform. The question is it paid to injure and to date there is still NO proof that occured. A bunch of he said – she said. Let’s at least tell it like it really is.

Lance is going to enlighten us all. Thanks Lance aka Drew “I’m an apologist for cheating” Brees. We all understand what the Saints were doing. Anyone with eyes saw the cheap shots they used against the Falcons the last couple of years. We saw what they did to Farve in the playoff game which is the ONLY reason they won. The Saints were willing to end careers and give guys life long injuries as long as they won. And people apologize for them??? Who are the Saints to even say the word class?

Obviously the Saints are just trying to shift the truth from themselves. The saints have been the dirtiest and most classless team in the NFL for decades. They have no idea what ‘class’ is. The field a team of trailer trash and they run their mouths like trailer trash! The Saints are the bottom of the heap. They can’t even show class and dignity when they win, which isn’t a lot.

Truth be told we lost the game. I am sick and tired of getting my season tickets and at least once EVERY single freakin year losing to these a-holes Aint’s. Micheal Turner 13 carries for 17 yards WTF!!! Thats why they think they can beat us anytime!! Too many penalties,We should have gotten penalties for knocking Brees down at least twice but wait,WE DIDN”T even get to Brees not once!!! Mattie Ice and Tony Gonzalez gave us several chances to win the game. Defense Rise Up!!! As for the running game. Jaquizz looked good that’s all I can say!! When Julio got hurt they put two corners on Roddy and two safeties and a linbacker on Gonzalez somebody should have gotten open hint Harry(Douglas)!!

I guess football players aren’t supposed to talk trash to each other. Nobody thought the Falcons were gonna go undefeated. Everybody knows this is a rivalry game. So anything else brought in to this is stupid. The Saints won. Thats all. But talking about natural disasters on a city? Who does that even tie in?
At the end of it all the Saints won’t make the playoffs anyway. So who cares if they won. There still gonna have a losing season, even with the $100 million dollar QB.

As a lifelong Falcons fan we need to shut up and play the games. Roddy is a great receiver but he talks way too much. Assante with the taunting move and hitting us for 15 yards hurt too. We went from being a well displined machine to a bunch of trash talking players. We all knew we wouldn’t be undefeated the whole season, and with the NFL parity we need to go out every week and execute. The encouraging thing from the game is that atleast we were in it and had a strong chance to win. Finish strong and then send the Saints team some popcorn so they can sit on the couch and watch us in the playoffs. Until then, shut up!

Yes 1st place in NFC.. still. Its true that the Falcons had their first loss to the Saints, but we already knew it was just a matter of ‘when’ and by ‘who’. For the Saints fans, yes we lost and a win is a win, but the saints did not ‘woop’ us by no means.. Honestly, if the Falcons wouldn’t have missed those 2 other TD opportunities, we would not be hearing a peep from you saints fans. And not to worry, If the Saints lose ANY more games, you are out for the season. And just remember, we get to tango with the Saints again come 11/29, on our turf this time. Several points.
1) If what the falcons did to lofton was classless then it was classless. It has nothing to do with what someone else did that is perceived as worse. Trying to excuse it on that basis is moot. Its one thing to talk smack during the game but coming over to the saints side during warm-ups to talk shyte.
2) Anyone who does not think that the goal of most NFL defenders is to knock opposing players out of the game is incredibly naive. Many of the games greatest defenders have stated that was what they tried to do every play. That’s why they call them ‘headhunters’. Ever notice how hard players try to lay a lick on a scrambling QB? . Using a penny-ante (for NFL players) bounty as a motivational tool was a terrible idea but does not make doing the same thing for free as pure as the driven snow. That is also why the officials have a penalty flag and the commissioner the ability to review film and fine. Incidentally, the number of personal foul penalties or players injured playing the saints were not significantly different than the rest of the league.
3) Using Brett Farve to make the point of trying to end a career is not a good example.

Falcons fans need to sit down. You have no superbowl win under your belt. You have no playoff win under Matt Ryan and you have been losing to the Saints for the past couple of years. Your fans first of all are not fans just a bunch of arrogant wannabes like the players specifically, Roddy White. You will not go to the superbowl this year are any year in the near future. The Saints have a ring and you don’t thats why you mad. You can’t even beat the Saints in a down year. You sound like Romney and his boys. KICK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anything related to the City of New Orleans, e.g., the Saints, the fans, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, etc. lacks class. That is why so many of its former citizens did not go back after Katrina prefering to remain in Houston and Atlanta. They will never admit it but the word “CLASS” doesn’t fit anything related to New Orleans.

Ok…say what you will about classless and bountygate, but I’d like to say a few things. One…no matter who left or didn’t leave or whatever else, you bring up katrina, you are making fun of people dying. People, old, young, middle aged…..CHILDREN lost their lives during that storm….are you serious? How can that further, even a little bit, your point about football, ATLANTA? What does men, WOMEN AND CHILDREN dying have to do with your cause here except to cause harm to others who survived and outlasted their family members and friends? Does anyone really think pay for play even begins to scrape the surface of the sick non-human attitude it requires to make fun of children dying? families being broken and people losing their entire life? I am a Saints fan forever, and guess what? I never was paid for play. I didn’t give any money to anyone for injuries. I hate that it even happened….but you scrape open horribly deep wounds, hoping to bring pain to people who may only be browsing this website to look at comments about their beloved team? Maybe even MOST of these fans looking at this sight didn’t pay for any injuries (imagine that….milllions innocent, and a few guilty, which is the truth no matter what comes out of the bounty gate hearings.) And even to that point, listen to all the announcers. I’m not even going to say my opinion on whether or not the saints were the only team that did it…listen to all the ex pro football player announcers, coaches, pundits…….what do they say? Go check it out…it’s all out there and has been there throughout the whole ordeal. You talk smack to a fellow ex-teammate for following the money? WHO DOESN’T follow the money, wal mart truck driver or fortune 500 executive. Where’s the Fault? You want to rile someone up? for an advantage? what does that say about you? that that’s important. That it is somehow important to you winning to get in someones head. who wins like that? I can’t think of any team actually winning a sport or important event that prized that kind of thinking where “it’;s part of the game to get in their head” when singling out an individual with whom they used to be friends. Yeah…you give another team heck, talk trash and all that, but a single player? One you used to cheer? Are you serious? I don’t know what will come of the Saints season, but I know one thing. That 100 million dollar quarterback someone mentioned earlier was not part of pay for play, if anyone was. Plus, he has donated more in time AND money to people needing help than, I would venture even though I could be wrong, the ENTIRE Falcons organization. That’s what class is, even being associated with a team who is going through bountygate. You want to hate the Saints, so be it, don’t hurt those innocent who lost children and family in a natural disaster just to get in someone’s head.

bye the way, every fan loves their team. It’s just a matter of fact. Only difference is how you show that love. You need to hate to feel proud? New Orleans, you are better than that. I have lived in Louisiana all my life and it’s confusing seeing some of these posts from saints fans…..fans who all wear purple n gold on saturday, no matter where you live. It’s all about coming together for a common good, loving the saints and tigers…not coming together to bring another team down…what does that do? They don’t dcare what you say….I promise you that…they are gonna love the Falcons no matter what. So what are you accomplishing? Who is bennifitting from the smack talk? And before you pose remeber one thing….It is a million times more important to love the saints than it is to hate the Falcons, or any other team for that matter. That’s what makes a fan, not who they hate, but for whom they cheer. Is paying bonuses to players to mame and put hits out on opponents not the epitome and definition of CLASSLESSNESS???!!! LOL! How can it be viewed otherwise?!? Aints players and fans have NO room to call anyone classless. Shanle and Vilma especially, should quickly look in the mirror before they even think to utter the word “classless” to describe ANYONE other than themselves. once again, I agree with most of you, saints fans or falcon fans….and again, it wasn’t me peeing on falcon logos. I also don’t think the term classless was meant for the fans. The classless comment was made towards the act of belittling a player who accepted a contract from another team…not meant towards the fans and wasn’t directed towards the Atlanta Fans. Does anyone else feel like they’re taking crazy pills? to identify with one or two athletes as if they are indicative of an entire city is ludacris….if i didn’t feel this way I would think everyone in Atlanta was happy Katrina happened and killed people. Anyone out there really think that’s the truth? That people are happy that people they didn’t know died? C’mon people, we all are proud of our team, not the bad parts, but of our team.. I am white….I am proud of being a white man, but that doesn’t mean I think that slavery was right just because white people did it and I am white. It happened but I wasn’t there. Please, enlighten me of a city who welcomes those who come to their stadium to cheer against their team? I only bring up important points that I think supercede the game of football, i.e. katrina And by the way, should you group me in with the “classless” city of new orleans based on a few stupid athletes and fans, do you think its fare that I group you in with the people who make light of Katrina and the souls who lost their lives and family during that tragedy? atlanta does have a bounty system….they pay defensive players. anyone who thinks a professional defensive player doesn’t aim to hurt whomever they hit has never played football before. You get pumped after a big hit…then realize theyre hurt and appologize…..after the fact. Thats different from pay for play i guess….but defenders….that’s what makes them who they are…clay mathews is scary because he can hurt you and will if you get caught slipping….so will ray lewis, jon lynch, brian urlacher, troy polamalu……..best defensive players are great tacklers….and BIG HITTERS

I hope you don’t confuse what i’m saying with pay for play…….it’s just the nature of being a defender……whose job is, by definition, to hit the player with the ball and make sure they go down. can you imagine if a falcon defender would let up during a hit on a saint runningback who then spins out of a half ass tackle and runs for a touchdown……..but what if they save an injury???? No one would care….because as long as the hit is legal….thats what you are supposed to do…right? Maybe I am confused and need enlightenment

And for a team that has owned you guys in the past 5 years, just shut up and congratulate. The Saints may have one Superbowl title, but let’s be real, in light of the recent findings, they are lucky the NFL didn’t strip them of it. The Saints have ALWAYS played dirty ball… THAT is nothing new. I saw plenty of encounters on Sunday that should have been penalties called on the Saints. But..I digress. I truly believe if the first match up between these two this year would have been in the dome, the outcome would have been totally different. The Saints just used their “dirty” fans to their advantage during this rival game. We shall see how the next match up goes…
Saints fans should also remember that we hold the win in the life of this rivalry 46-41.

I have tried admitting the bounty scandall….all i get is no comment…i have tried talking about the reality of football as relates to bounties…also no intelligent response…..and finally I have challenged the use of Katrina as an ammunition against saint’s fans…..also only to an incredibly insensitive disconnect between people dying to make a point and actually using facts and non offensive events to make your point. I hope dateline picks up the atlanta thread

yes!!!! 4-5 …no one here cares except they want to do better. New Orleans fans are no longer ashamed of their team and I think never have been past the skin level. I’d rather lose to a losing team than those glorifying a lack of life due to a natural disaster. Please someone who can offer some kind of opposition to my view of a “love your team” fan base to why katrina was good, call in and tell me just that, why katrina, the conversation starter, is so important to the fans on this website.

I’m glad the Atlanta Falcons released Defensive End Ray Edwards, the worst football player I’ve ever seen on the gridiron. Edwards was more interested in his uniform than tackling runners. I want to see the video that led the organization to signing this horrible excuse for a football player!

Classless? How about going 0-4, staying vewwwy, vewwwy quiet…..and I don’t recall a lot of Falcons fans trying to rub it in…..then, bucking up after winning by the last 20 seconds on the clock….and, by the way…. you take half the season to get out of the cellar….still below .500. Elevator down.

Saints just gave the Falcons fans and players what they deserved. A butt whooping to stop all of that undefeated talk. Check the scoreboard. Enough said. You either win or shut up.

The Falcons have won 8 games and act like they are the New England Patriots. Nothing they do in the Regular Season is relevant. They need to get it done in the post-season to earn any kind of respect. When the playoffs begin everyone will be 0 and 0. Most of that 8 game winning record they beat their chest about were close games that could have gone either way against sub par disorderly teams with the exception of Denver (who is currently balling right now)
The road to the Superbowl will run through Green Bay, Chicago, San Francisco or the New York Giants (who embaraced them last year). Until they beat one of those teams, the Falcons really need to shut up and play football.
The Falcons have no championship pedigree or playoff experience. They swagger around like they are the most dominant team in the NFC. They better be careful or they will wind up like the Dennis Green Vikings teams with all that talent and wont go anywhere. I dont care what their apologists friends at 790 the zone say. The Falcons have great players but they are a little overrated.

LOL…..omg…you got me guys. I thought you were really not paying attention to the substance of the arguments here. It’s more that you have NOTHIN to argue about other than things that I myself have acknowledged….aka bounty gat……how can they say ‘what about bounty gate” and we say yeah, i know bounty gate sucked and it shoudn’t have happened and it sucks…..and then at the same time people still act like bounty gate is an important evasive factor….well it can’t be if im saying HEY..BOUNTYGATE HAPPENED…” BUT i guarantee….this willl change nothing.

As a New Orleans native and lifelong Saints fan, we were caught breaking the rules and deserve to be punished to the fullest extent (no excuses, no exceptions). We have won 11 of 13 against the Falcons, and look forward to settling the score again on the field on 11/29.
I have resided in Metro Atlanta for nearly 20 years. It’s a great city and highly progressive place to live in as millions have migrated here during the past few decades, and millions more are expected during the next 20+ years – http://www.atlantaregional.com.
However, in my opinion, Atlanta has never been a true sports town and many of its teams only have fair-weather fans. Conversely, as loyal Saints fans, we have and will continue to support our team during the bad and good seasons (i.e., 1-15 seasons or Super Bowl Champs). See you in the Georgia Dome on Nov. 29th!!!

The Saints will be watching the Falcons in the playoffs so this game doesn’t matter that much. Why are ‘The ‘Saints’ called saints anyway? If they are saints I’d hate to think about who are not saints.

The aints calling the Falcons classless or telling them to win something. NOLA backing into one superbowl win does not change the fact that Aints fans invented the paper bag on the head and are arguably the most underperforming team in the history of the NFL.
Saints win Sunday…..congrats. This is the NFL, where any team can beat any team.
Bottom line is Atlanta still was a best friend to New Orleans after Katrina, and of course no gratitude from the crescent ctiy.
I guess the Falcons will just have to be happy leading the NFC.
Also….the Kansas City Chiefs would like to thank the Aints for their lone victory of the year.

lol all of you trying to bring up the bounty crap as an example of why the saints have no class, if you have any evidence you might want to submit it to the NFL because right now their case is falling apart like the falcon’s defense.

Why do they keep calling this a “rivalry”? The Saints have beat the Falcons 11 times in the last 13 meetings. That’s not a rivalry, that’s ownership!

1st now but not at the end of the year when it counts, talk about classless just listen to #84 push-off roddy or is that push-off white, a receiver who’s only way of getting opened is by pushing off. And for all you classless falcon fans if you think your going to win one playoff game, much less the superbowl while averaging 7.4 yards per catch, your sadly mistaken, and for the classless falcon fans talking about the SAINTS and the bogus pay for injury lies by goodell, please show us your proof or your just as classless as goodell. What’s the difference between a dirty bath tub & a dirty bird?? The dirty bath tub has a ring. See you in a few weeks by that time the falcons will be 8 & 5 and your season will be headed down the toilet. The only thing with any class in the falcons locker room is Mike Smith, Matt Ryan & Tony Gonzales. WHO DAT!!!

It would be great for the Falcons to shut their mouths and just go out and play football against the team that has handled them 6 out of the last 7 ganmes. A big smart-ass mouth has never won a game. But as they say, “Stupid is as stupid does”.

Vilma? Let’s see, where have I heard that name before? …. Oh I remember, he was the Eagle player that was thrown out of the game a few years ago when he got into a fight with one of the Falcons in the warm ups. Probably cost his team the game. So I don’t put any stock in what that idiot says.
