BCS Championship odds

Georgia's Aaron Murray is gunning for an SEC title.

Georgia's Aaron Murray is gunning for an SEC title.

The prospect of playing for the BCS title may have some Georgia fans thrilled, but Vegas isn’t quite sold on the Bulldogs’ chances.

While Jeff Schultz has a tough time believing an SEC team will miss out on playing in the championship, the odds are not in his favor.

Georgia’s odds of making the title game stand at 20-1. Too high or too low?

Check to see how the remaining BCS Top 5 fare.

The odds would be against UGA beating Alabama. The 3 undefeated teams will be ‘favorites’ in all of their remaining games. However, recent history would suggest 2 of the 3 will still lose. With that and Alabama’s recent display of mortality, the odds are correct at 20-1…

I’m surprised that Vegas has odds on this — nobody outside of Georgia cares about the dawgs.

That’s probably pretty generous. Love the Dogs, but they’re really not a top-10 team this season, regardless of the polls.

They CAN play with anyone on a good day, but you just can’t count on it being a good day – especially against Bama.

I just hope they get by Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech. You never know.

No body outside of Georgia cares about UGA ?

Ha Ha !
12 Teams in the SEC WISH they were in UGA’s position right now.
Every college football team in the country, except for 3 or 4, would trade places with UGA in a split second if they could.

The Dawgs will prove they are man enough vs. Bama on December 1st.

Haters please keep haiting. It just adds fuel to the fire.
“Interested obervers” keep observing and saying UGA has no chance.

It just makes it all the sweetier then all their hard work pays off.

GO DAWGS !

AND I THINK WE COULD HANDLE K-STATE. SOMEBODY AT THE UGAA NEEDS TO INSTRUCT RICHT TO RAMP UP HIS BARK IN FRONT OF THE NATIONAL MEDIA.

RICHT NEEDS TO START TALKING ABOUT IT NOW, SO IF WE DO WIN IN THE DOME…HE IS NOT SAYING “UH, WELL….WE ARE AS GOOD…”

SELL YOU TEAM MARK, LIKE LES DID IN 2007. IT WORKS.

Getting jackhammered by SC is why they are 20-1. If they beat an undefeated ala. Ok id bump them over the other 1 loss teams. But not over any undefeated. Handle it on the field, don’t sob to the pollsters

UGA?? Have you ever been outside Georgia? I was in Anarctica one fall and people, not from Georgia, were coming to tell me what the UGA scores were! I have been to all seven continents and have yet to introduce myself and someone not respond with” how ’bout them Dawgs.” You need to get out more.

The only good thing ever to come out of Bama is that Doc who fixes pitchers. DAWGS roll into NC game after punching the Tide in the mouth and watching Texas grow a pair and take K state out, and watching Stanford take care of business against Oregon. That leaves a 31-7 slaughter of Notre Dame for the DAWGS!!!!!

CoachX: UGA has won one national title in the last 60 years. Why would anyone want to trade places with that program? Also, it’s important to note that those are the odds to get into the game, not win it.

How does Georgia get ranked so high when their only quality win is against Florida? They did not even play Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, or Alabama…..It’s because they are in the SEC and no other reason..How about this out of conference schedule (Buffalo, Georgia Tech, Florida Atlantic, & Georgia Southern).

A lot has to happen…. 2 teams loose and UGA beat Bama…. It is a chance!!

I agree that UGA better start making their case loud and clear even. Even if we should get the two needed losses from 1-3 and beat Bama…. I would not leave anything to chance (ESPN) without some noise!!

Big question… If #1 takes a loss… how far would we expect Kansas to drop? Bama dropped 1 to 4… No guarantee that Oregon or Kansas would drop below us if they take a loss. And we dont have a great history with ESPN

Who cares what the odds are? It doesn’t mean anything unless we win out and 2 of the top 3 teams lose. Can we beat Bama? Ofcourse, if we show up to play like we did in Jacksonville. If we show up to play like we did in Columbia, then forget it, Bama will rout us. Who cares if we are ranked 4 or 5? Unless we beat Bama, nothing else matters.

I’d take Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

I think the following…………

Ga has a 98% chc of beating Ga southern
Ga has a 90% chc of beating Ga tech
Ga has a 35% chc of beating Alabama

There is a 10% chc that 2 out of the 3 teams(ND…Ore…Kst) lose at least 1 more game.

Doing the math…… .98 X .90 X .35 X .10 = .03 Ga has a 3% chc of making it to the BCS champ game.

That means Ga should be 33 to 1 to go to the BCS champ game.

If Oregon goes unbeaten they haven defeated:

A ranked USC team (possibly twice with championship game)
A ranked Standford team
A ranked Oregon State team
A ranked Arizona team

UGA has beaten a ranked FL team
UGA has lost to a ranked SC team

jc dawgs nice analysis, but I think the odds of two of the three teams losing is a little higher. Notre Dame is shaky and I think K State could easily get beat by Texas, they are playing better here lately. So I think the 20 to 1 is pretty spot on

20-1 sounds about right. Of course Bama will be favored but they were against A&M as well. How did that work out for them. Other than the current top 5 the rest of the teams in the nation have exactly 0% on playing in the NC game.

Personally I’m glad to be in the mix for the game. I have a hard time understanding the losers who are wringing their hands and whining that we don’t have a chance.

conventional wisdom suggests that Vegas will get the better bet. If you ask them…”can I place $20 to win $1 that Ga will not make the BCS champ game” They would tell you no. In fact…you’d probably have to place $30 to win the 1$. Thus…as far as Vegas is concerned…the TRUE ODDS are probably around 25 to 1. And yes…gbal…you are on to something there… and thereby my 33 to 1 should probably be more like 25 to 1.

If Georgia wins the SEC, that will move them past a one lost K-State or Notre Dame, but a one loss Oregon makes for an interesting debate.

Just glad to be in the mix…

A ranked USC team (possibly twice with championship game)
A ranked Standford team ….. have not played
A ranked Oregon State team #16
A ranked Arizona team …….. not ranked

SO they have beaten two ranked teams… currently 16 and 18

The odds are only not in favor because 2 teams have to lose ahead of us AND we have to beat Bama. It’s a tall order but watch what happens when ND loses to USC and KSU loses to Texas (or Oregon loses to Stanford, State, or USC).

So help me understand this.

does this mean
1) I can put $1.00 on GA making the BCS and if it happens, I win $20.00 OR>>
2) I could $20 On GA NOT making the BCS and if they dont, win $1.00.

Listen guys.. if Georgia beats Alabama in the SEC Championship game.. we go to the Sugar.. if we are runner up.. we will probably get another bcs bowl.. First Dawgs have to get past Alabama to even worry about anything else.. If Richt was a better lobbyist… we would be ranked 3 or 4 right now instead of 5.. The Dawgs could beat any of those undefeated teams and we should be in a spot to compete as a national title contender.. but these are humans voting instead of putting us in a playoff format to fight it out. What do you suggest?
