BCS Championship odds

Georgia's Aaron Murray is gunning for an SEC title.

Georgia's Aaron Murray is gunning for an SEC title.

The prospect of playing for the BCS title may have some Georgia fans thrilled, but Vegas isn’t quite sold on the Bulldogs’ chances.

While Jeff Schultz has a tough time believing an SEC team will miss out on playing in the championship, the odds are not in his favor.

Georgia’s odds of making the title game stand at 20-1. Too high or too low?

Check to see how the remaining BCS Top 5 fare.

The odds would be against UGA beating Alabama. The 3 undefeated teams will be ‘favorites’ in all of their remaining games. However, recent history would suggest 2 of the 3 will still lose. With that and Alabama’s recent display of mortality, the odds are correct at 20-1…

That’s probably pretty generous. Love the Dogs, but they’re really not a top-10 team this season, regardless of the polls.

They CAN play with anyone on a good day, but you just can’t count on it being a good day – especially against Bama.

I just hope they get by Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech. You never know.

Ha Ha !
12 Teams in the SEC WISH they were in UGA’s position right now.

The only good thing ever to come out of Bama is that Doc who fixes pitchers. DAWGS roll into NC game after punching the Tide in the mouth and watching Texas grow a pair and take K state out, and watching Stanford take care of business against Oregon. That leaves a 31-7 slaughter of Notre Dame for the DAWGS!!!!!

How does Georgia get ranked so high when their only quality win is against Florida? They did not even play Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, or Alabama…..It’s because they are in the SEC and no other reason..How about this out of conference schedule (Buffalo, Georgia Tech, Florida Atlantic, & Georgia Southern).

A lot has to happen…. 2 teams loose and UGA beat Bama…. It is a chance!!

I agree that UGA better start making their case loud and clear even. Even if we should get the two needed losses from 1-3 and beat Bama…. I would not leave anything to chance (ESPN) without some noise!!

Big question… If #1 takes a loss… how far would we expect Kansas to drop? Bama dropped 1 to 4… No guarantee that Oregon or Kansas would drop below us if they take a loss. And we dont have a great history with ESPN

Who cares what the odds are? It doesn’t mean anything unless we win out and 2 of the top 3 teams lose. Can we beat Bama? Ofcourse, if we show up to play like we did in Jacksonville. If we show up to play like we did in Columbia, then forget it, Bama will rout us. Who cares if we are ranked 4 or 5? Unless we beat Bama, nothing else matters.

I’d take Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

I think the following…………

Ga has a 98% chc of beating Ga southern
Ga has a 90% chc of beating Ga tech
Ga has a 35% chc of beating Alabama

There is a 10% chc that 2 out of the 3 teams(ND…Ore…Kst) lose at least 1 more game.

Doing the math…… .98 X .90 X .35 X .10 = .03 Ga has a 3% chc of making it to the BCS champ game.

That means Ga should be 33 to 1 to go to the BCS champ game.

conventional wisdom suggests that Vegas will get the better bet. If you ask them…”can I place $20 to win $1 that Ga will not make the BCS champ game” They would tell you no. In fact…you’d probably have to place $30 to win the 1$. Thus…as far as Vegas is concerned…the TRUE ODDS are probably around 25 to 1. And yes…gbal…you are on to something there… and thereby my 33 to 1 should probably be more like 25 to 1.

First Dawgs have to get past Alabama to even worry about anything else.. If Richt was a better lobbyist… we would be ranked 3 or 4 right now instead of 5.. The Dawgs could beat any of those undefeated teams and we should be in a spot to compete as a national title contender.. but these are humans voting instead of putting us in a playoff format to fight it out. The fact is, just because the ESPN talking heads want it this way, neither UGA or Bama stand a very good chance at making into the BCSCG. They say a 1 loss SEC team doesn’t deserve a shot over the 3 undefeated teams.
I say they’re full of hawgwash!
The fact that the SEC has won the last SIX titles speaks louder than ALL their words!
The fact that SIX of the top nine in the BCS standings are from our conference, SCREAMS that they’re all full of hocky!!!

Why don’t any of you say alabama and lsu didn’t have to play Georgia? I mean seriously, folks. we didn’t lose to #15. And why don’t you idiots look at SEC East and SEC West records? They are basically identical.

We lost to Carolina because spurrier, no matter where he is, hates UGA so much that he plans for that one game all year. His team plays lights out against us. Yeah, we lost and I hate it but they were #6 when we lost. After that they lost to lsu, who isn’t a bad team and is ranked in the top 10 (even though they also have 2 losses). Basically, we lost to a better team that you did.

And did that Ogre idiot actually say we didn’t play Arkansas? Seriously?! Arkansas? Do you even have a clue what you are talking about? Catch up. It’s not 2011.

Oh, and bama played powerhouses Western Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Western Carolina and still has auburn, a group with a a combined record of 16 – 34. The overall record of alabama’s opponents is 59 – 59. Yeah. Tough run there.

What are the odds that two of Kansas State, Notre Dame, and Oregon lose a game before the season is over? That will be harder – - but not impossible, say about 2.5 – 1.

i think the sec is the best league overall, but in no way does a 1 loss sec team get an auto bid to the NC game. the fact that an sec team won the NC 6 yrs running means squat. its not what the conf did 6 or 60 yrs ago. its what you did on the field this year. i love Bama, but they didnt lose by a missed field goal to the #1 team this year, they lost to #15 at home. if UGA beats Bama, they beat a 2 loss team as their best win. and UGA’s strength of sched is horrid. they got hammerd by SC, didnt play decent sec west team, and look at that pathetic non-conf sched. if 2 of the 3 top teams run the table, the sec sits it out this year. if they don’t and Bama wins out, they get a ticket as the best 1 loss team.

The odds should be closer to 500 to 1. Mark Richt is not a championship coach, and all the Kool-Aid in the world won’t change that.

Since GS and GT are run oriented it is necessary that GA score a lot of points on both to make a statement. But if they both have the long sustained time consuming drives the scores may not be to high. Defense is the key to not allowing either to score much therefore maybe GA can get a high score vs them both. I dare say that GS has a much better defense than GT but GT probably will score more than GS. Since GT is the second game GA should be use to their offense and stuff them as they should unless GA does not tackle as they did not the in the first GA GT game in the Johnson regime.

Just a testiment of how strong the SEC is this year. Where are the teams below Oregon, Kansas State, and ND in their conference ranked?…..Oh yes, I forgot, ND gets to choose who they play but what are their records vs the good teams? If the SEC is 4-9 ranked and play a championship game. Does Al or GA not move up after the championship game if only one of the top three has the extra championship game? Even if all three end up undefeated. Why should ND get a free ride with their dismal schedule???? Oh yes, I forgot, they are ND. What is the total won loss records of the teams the top three have played.

If for some reason the we find away to get in the title game well we do if not we don’t . There is still a way . And that’s the problem with the polls and BCS and why there will be a playoff coming soon .
So these teams will actually play each other. GO DAWGS !!!!

@Sunny
If you think you know it all then explain how CMR has won 2 SEC Championships if he isn’t, according to you, “a championship coach”!!! I would love to bet $1000 on this at 20:1. By far the biggest obstacle is Bama because at least 2 teams in the top 3 will fall.

I’m surprised that Vegas has odds on this — nobody outside of Georgia cares about the dawgs.

Wrong, I live in Tennessee and I care about the Dawgs.

Johnny Miezell, the Alabama “nightmare”, this kid is good and should be a top contender for the Heisman. The play I liked was when he running to his left at full speed and fired strike a strike in the endzone. He’s elusive and terroizes defenses. There’s not a better quarterback in the country than this freshman.
