Who’s NFL’s most overrated player?

Question: How can a QB who rarely plays be overrated? Answer: He's Tim Tebow.

Question: How can a QB who rarely plays be overrated? Answer: He's Tim Tebow.

Can a backup quarterback really be the NFL’s most overrated player?

He can if he’s Tim Tebow.

Sports Illustrated polled 180 NFL players, asking who they considered the 20 most overrated players in the league. Thirty-four percent named Tebow, making him No. 1 by a landslide.

The Jets’ starting quarterback, Mark Sanchez, tied with Dallas QB Tony Romo for No. 2 with 8 percent of the votes.

Looking at the results, which included eight quarterbacks, it seems possible the players viewed the survey as more of a reverse popularity contest than a true gauge of players whose reputation exceeds their abilities.

Tom Brady? Ndamukong Suh?

Jets coach Rex Ryan seemed amused at having his quarterbacks in the top two positions

“Wow, what are you going to say? I don’t know how to comment on that. I just know I’m happy they’re on my football team — on our football team. Seems like the Jets always get something, you know?”

One current Falcon and two former Falcons made the list. Check out the complete list and then make your nominations.

Wow! With all the big catches Roddy makes every week, I can’t understand why he’s in the top twenty. As far as I’m concerned, you can move DeAngelo and Cam into the top six and take Tom Brady and Eli Manning completely out of the picture.

Yeah Jenny, Aaron Rodgers is overrated. Look at his numbers. There’s a reason he is reigning MVP and once again leading league in QB rating and touchdowns. Underrated if you ask me.

My point is that they did not poll Jesus himself. They poled a bunch of jock’s who have been hit in the head once too often and got a little too big for their britches by getting these whopper contracts. Try praying for guidance and you will see that Tebow is number one in the Lords eye’s. You could all take a lesson in humility from him when he get’s down on one knee on nationel TV. All the cameras are on him for a reason. This is a modest man, a decent, god-fearing man. The Lord is on his side. If you would just pray, you all could get the Lord on your’s.

good to see the buckhead slasher on the list. he’s good for pep talks and rallying the troops, but is otherwise overrated and should be in prison.

He’s right, outside of the top five, this list more accurately reflects who’s disliked rather than over-rated.

[...] Speaking of Jeebus, Sports Illustrated has released its list of the top 20 overrated players in the National Footbaw League as voted on by 180 NFL players. You will be shocked, SHOCKED, to [...]

Well, some on this list are hardly overrated because they haven’t really done much to achieve even a slight rating to begin with. Cam Newton isn’t held in much esteem so he isn’t overrated, underrated or even rated. Mr. vick doesn’t carry much weight anymore, either. Tim Tebow is more a social phenom than a rated ball player… and as for Tony Romo? His stock fell a while back.

As for the rest, a lot has to do with one’s likes and dislikes for the various teams and the publicity they generate in the media. So, isn’t more correct to ask which sports media keyboard jockey spends the most time overrating these guys?

I agree with his NFL peers. Tebow is the most overrated player to ever step foot on a NFL field.

There is no way Tebow can be over rated. Everyone knew he was not a NFL caliber QB so no one rated him as that. Tebow may be under utilized at this point since none of the coaches seem to be able to fit him into a scheme or be willing to move him to another position.

1.Tim Tebow, New York Jets.—yep

2. Mark Sanchez, New York Jets.—yep

3. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys.—yep

4. Mike Vick, Philadelphia Eagles.—yep…should be #1.

5. Ray Lewis, Baltimore Ravens.—yep…but ray-ray the killer is old.

6. Reggie Bush, Miami Dolphins.—yep.

7. Nnamdi Asomugha, Philadelphia Eagles.—yep.

8. Michael Crabtree, San Francisco 49ers.—yep.

9. Tom Brady, New England Patriots.—no way. one of best ever at position.

10. Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions.—on the fence…very good player.

11. B.J. Raji, Green Bay Packers.—nope…good player.

12.Brian Urlacher, Chicago Bears.—nope…great linebacker…ask Matthew Stafford what he thinks.

13. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers.—yep.

14. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs.—no opinion.

15. Eli Manning, New York Giants.—nope. another great qb that has been to two, count ‘em, SBs.

16. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers.—yep, but time will tell.

17. Troy Polamalu, Pittsburgh Steelers.—nope…gives it all when healthy…best SS around.

18. Darnell Dockett, Arizona Cardinals.—yep.

19. DeAngelo Hall, Washington Redskins.—yep…DeAngelo Fall…chump…mouth…idiot…sucker.

20. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons.—no way, man. great player. will catch the ball. will drop it too, but he is a money player. on field behavior is sometimes too ego-motivated and improper, but you got to like a guy that is a little brash and backs it up. I never liked Dion because of his mouth, but he could play…couldn’t / wouldn’t tackle but i like Roddy, and this is who this is about, not $PrimeTime$.

Jenny, I tried to report your comment regarding Aaron Rodgers…. but it was too much work. You’re the girl that discredits girls’ knowledge when it comes to football.

Tom Brady? Yeah, he is a pretty boy punk man child…. but he, like Rodgers, is an elite, top 5 QB.

I hate Vick… but he had nearly double the amount of rushing yards than every other QB a season or 2 ago… and I hate to admit it, but his ball has a pretty spiral.

and L52…. yeah he is a murderer…. and on his way out… but he’s been playing on the Ravens since I was in elementary school and has over 2,000 tackles over the course of his career.

JIM – I agree with you about Tebow… unfortunately nearly 2,000,000 people following Tebow on Twitter and singing his praises are not as intelligent as us.

I didnt’ think the rest of the league even knew who Roddy White is. Lead the league two years straight and he’s overrated? T Brady? Really? Manning? Really? Mike Vick has lost that step that made him magic and is no longer relevant. So bad, so sad. There needs to be a list of most stupid lists I’d rate this one number one. Shouldn’t it be worst starters at their positions?

Tebow is the only one that TRULY BELONGS there. All others are at least “plausibly” debatable. Where’s Sam Baker in the mix? Oh, yeah, he’s on the worst list I mentioned above along with Garrett Reynolds. And sholdn’t Joe Hawley be on this list as a receiver?

Its tough to argue with the top 7. The players got it right with players 1 -7. After that it seems they just mention players who have a personal issue with.

Cam Newton should be rated higher. His team is 1-7 right ?
