Former Bulldogs weigh in on S.C. blowout

Former Georgia Bulldogs had plenty to say on Twitter about UGA’s blowout loss to South Carolina Saturday night.

Some, like most fans on message boards, were angry over the Dogs’ effort in the 35-7 pasting. Others simply urged fans to keep supporting the team.

Here’s a sampling:

Former UGA and Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis: “I don’t care what anybody says, when you’re the #5 team in the nation, you DON’t give a performance like this, period!!”

Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle George Foster: “I’ve never been this ticked about a game I didn’t play in. I never thought I’d see a UGA team not show up for 4 whole quarters.”

Chicago Bears defensive back Tim Jennings: South Carolina is a tough place to play in!! Not to forget that they just tougher than us right now also

Former center Ben Jones, now with the Houston Texans: I bleed red and black no matter what happened tonight. The dawgs will bounce back.

Falcons linebacker Akeem Dent: When my Dawgs hurt….I hurt!!! I still bleed red & black

Drew Butler, punter with Pittsburgh Steelers: South Carolina is about to be ranked #3. Could have been UGA. Smarter to save it for the end of the season. Long road ahead.

Cleveland Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi: STILL LOVE MY DAWGS!

Bengals tight end Orson Charles: I still bleed red and black and still love my Dogs keep y’all head it’s a long season

Davis, Foster and Jennings. Gentlemen, I concur. Humiliating loss. USC punched them in the mouth from the get-go, and never let up. Spurrier 15-5 against UGA as a coach! Enough said!

It's OK

Give SC credit. They are a good team and could possibly give AL a run for the SEC title. GA could still beat any of the teams ranked 5 – 10.

Gotta have an o-line to win in the SEC. We beat up on the patsies, but found out that when you get out-manned and out-muscled up front bad things happen. Until we get an SEC caliber line (see Alabama, for one) we will continue to beat the bad teams, and will lose to the good ones. Anyone who EVER played the game on any level can see we are NOT top-tier D-1 o-line. We have been out-recruited, for sure. And, we were exposed Saturday night. If we played S.C. again, the same would happen. We are better than D-2 schools and slack d-1’s. But our line is not good enough to protect Murray and open holes for our backs against good teams!

Once again expectations exceed reality. Clearly the offensive and defensive schemes don’t work. There is not enough “beef” on the line to stop SEC rushing with a 3-4. Blow it up and start over!

I am true dawg through and through but I wonder if Coach Richt has taken us as far as he can. Would love to see more emotion from Richt…players feed off emotions of coaches…none from Coach Richt. I am tired of Spurrier beating us with players from our state that we don’t want and he just “coaches them up”.

Those puppies need an old dawg to come in and light a fire under there angus! I know thats not going to get it EVERY week but we need some old Dawg (David Pollack because you will be heard the loudest and you have the stage for it on ESPN without showing biais to the team)blood to rip these young guys a new one! Challenge them and call them out! Let them know that it is not a right but a privilege to play in the SEC and that you have to bring it every week to be a part of something greater. They need to be challenged so that they can stop being a good team……are they tired of being a good team or are they complacent with being good and know that being good is enough. Challenged to be great, challenged to be more than what they have been for 3 years. It gets old doing the same thing when you have so much more of an opportunity to do more. We need an old DAWG that talks to the kids and young men with passion, and make them respect the Black and Red! Respect that you in the SEC and let your play show it. What alumni from the Dog Nation can do that? David Pollack you are being paged to hold the Bulldog Players to a higher standard and you can do it……..the question is will you?

Here’s the dilemma Mark Richt can’t coach, but he’s a hell of a recruiter. Georgia on paper is arguably the most talented team in college football, bout 5 guys on defense will be 1st or 2nd rounders. Offensively they have a good QB, 2 excellent freshman tailbacks, and go bout 5 deep at WR. Richt wins just enough games not to get fired, but doesn’t win the big ones consistently. What kills me as a fan is the players always play better on the next level when they coached up.

Wouldn’t matter vampire Bill, CMR would just say “hey, he’s entitled to his opinion” and he wouldn’t give it a second thought.

Bobo can’t move the ball against the better D’s and that has been proven time and time again!!!!!! He can’t move the chains. Ga can go through new O line coaches every year and are going to get the same result. When he encounters a team evenly matched and or a little better, he has no creativity to move the ball. GA has good athletes, they just have an O coach that is in way over his head. Fire Major Applewhite……..I mean Mike Bobo………………Seriously, not 1 slant rt the whole game, you either ran at the D line or were passing down field the whole game, I saw hardly any underneath rts the ………that game was typical Bobo

How can South Carolina almost lose to Vandy and Ky and then play that far over their heads against us. They are good, better than us, but not like that. And how can we play defense last year with almost the same group and be so bad this year. When was the last time we put pressure on a passing QB. Not Bray from UT and not Saturday? I surmise that LSU might beat USC this week cause they can’t play that way 2 weeks in a row. They are good, but not that good.

Quitting is a reflection of the head coach, that’s what the Georgia Bulldogs did Saturday. When it got to hard they just laid down and quit!!! Richt is just has too soft of a personality to coach a football team, it’s a shame because the players are there. Any coach in America would die to have a roaster like Georgia’s, but you have to motivate and have some sort of game plan.

This weekend is the reason teams shouldn’t be rated before the season begins or on recruiting and what happened the year before. Start the season and then begin ranking and “strength of schedule” should also be considered in ranking teams. UGA fans wouldn’t be so disappointed if they didn’t rank them so high EVERY year…they could work themselves into the rankings and so called fans wouldn’t become so disappointed when they lose to a better team. Maybe I’m wrong, since they don’t consider USC a better team.

Coach Richt wants to be the players buddy, not their coach. Parenting and coaching require some tough love. He is like the little league coach who believes every kid on the teams gets a trophy. Also he has not had an SEC quality o line since Donnan’s recruits left in spite of 3 Oline coaches. Sorry, great man, very good recruiter, not a champsionship coach. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results

One person I’d really like to hear from is still on the team: Tavarres King. He’s one player I know who was on the team all the way back in 2008 and I’d like to hear from him what he believes has us continually losing games to ranked opponents whether we’ve got Matthew Stafford, A. J. Green and Knowshon Moreno or Jarvis Jones, Shawn Williams, John Jenkins, Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley. What makes us wet the bed in big games year after year? Is it the players? Is it the coaching? Or are all those other ranked teams, since 2008, truly just flat out better than UGA?

Its OK. Keep your heads up Dawgs. We could win every game from here on out and be National Champions. We’ve got to support the coaching staff the rest of the year! Mark Richt is a wonderful Christian man and if you don’t support him you’re not TRUE Dawg fans. Go pull for GT!!!

Anyway, who would we replace him with if he left?! The SC game was just a fluke. It happens from time to time. They got hot and lucky and the Dawgs were unlucky. If UGA had been prepared, had a gameplan, and weren’t frozen like a deer in the headlights they would’ve WON! And if Rambo intercepts that pass its a different game. The Dawgs and CMR will show all you haters you’re wrong.

Some of you all were not watching the same game as I was. “No slant routes”….are you kidding? We ran slants and other short combo routes to try to combat the pressure of their front 4. Nobody was saying a darn thing when we averaged 530+ yards the 1st 5 games…, one terrible game and it’s the same old crap, “FIRE BOBO”. How many of you guys have ever called plays at a level above your sons rec league team, your college flag football league, or your NCAA 2013 football game on playstation? It’s not easy calling plays when your line can’t run block OR pass pro!!! We missed blocks all game, dropped multiple passes, and the QB had a BAD game because he was running for his life all night. Not to mention the fact that we got down 21 points because our defense kept blowing assignments and they returned a punt.

I’m as frustrated as anyone. But some of you all need to realize that the PLAYERS need to be mentally prepared for battle, play the technique that they are taught, and MAKE PLAYS!!!

The Dawgs have some GREAT players on the team. But, their are holes……..if you didn’t notice that before the season or during the 1st 5 games, then you simply don’t know what the heck you are talking about. On top of that, some of those ‘GREAT’ players aren’t playing well on a regular basis. Carolina was just better than the Dawgs on Saturday night. If you played the game again, it probably wouldn’t be 35-7. But, Saturday the game got away from UGA, so USC could play the game with their ears pinned back and it was just too much. IT HAPPENS. Is it good? NO. Should it happen with the players we have? NO. But it did. Get over it.

All you folks still *itchin’ and complain’ are the same types of folks that went and egged some of the players houses on Saturday night. Stay classy Dawg fans!

Best Players- USC
Best Coaches- USC
Best Fans- USC

Many of the best plays in the game were made by players from the talent rich state of Georgia who happened to be dressed in the wrong uniform. Sometimes I wonder why we go all over the country to get 4 & 5 can’t miss players when Auburn, FSU, Florida, Clemson and USC come to Georgia. There may be something to be said for taking a kids who are not 4 & 5 star prospects but have grown up with a dream to play for the dogs. Just thinking……………….

The record against ranked teams is pathetic. 4 1st round NFL picks, Jr. QB, WR depth, star RB’s and this is the best we can do?
Time for massive change in Athens. Overdue. It all started in the Sugar Bowl against WVU and we have been getting spanked by good teams ever since.

Dawgs play the TOP teams in the country – like Buffalo, FAU, and Vandy so far and you think you have a top 10 team? And then give up 44 points to Tenn and you think you have a top 20 team? When you guys get a serious schedule then you can continue your whining. Until then, you played up to your potential against SC. Maybe even over your heads.

SC has LSU and Florida the next 2 weeks. No way they keep up the play as this week. It was kind of like our Vandy game. Just hit on all cylinders.

As a somewhat neutal observer (Bama fan) it seems that the rest of your season’s excitement hinges on the fact SC has got dealt a tough schedule after the A&M and Mizzou adds forced SC to drop Miss State at home have to to to LSU andUGA got to miss a road game at Bama. First time I remember Dawg fans more excited by their schedule than the talent on the field. SC is 2 games better than you with your same schedule and you know it.,….they were actaull the best East team last year after going 6-0 in the fluke Saturday night. they’ve passed you in the pecking order in the East and UF is back as well..listen–those are “UT Vol” footsteps you are hearing not SEC championship game dreams……

Hairy Dawg if you were to run a poll I highly doubt over 10% of dawg fans think we stand a chance in he!! of beating Florida. As bad as our defense is I doubt more than 50% would say that we will beat Auburn, Miss State or even Ga Tech. You can bet your last dollar GT is gonna hang at least 35 on us.

Notice no dawgs before Richt has stood behind him. Of course his former players are going to back him. Hook them to a polygraph machine and ask them the question. Should Richt remain head coach?

Finally to the people who are worried about next seasons defense. No way on the earth can it be any worst than than this bunch of marshmallow. I say bench the lot of them and let the players coming back next season start. Maybe the replacements will have some back bone. Recruits! Come to UGA and be coached by the worst coach in the SEC or look at the bright side. You should have no problem starting on the starting defense.

SEC fan! Listen jerk. Oh I forgot. I’m neutral also. Alabama backed into the national title game last season and as of right now it has been proven that every team Alabama has played a weaker schedule than UGA and the rest of the SEC West is a total joke this season. UGA was champs last season jerk not SC. I don’t care who the he!! we played and who the he!! they played. They lost 2 conference games and UGA lost 1. SC takes care of a Auburn team UGA biotched slapped and SC would have been the SEC East champs. Crap the only reason they didn’t lose 3 conference games was because the dawgs gilf wrapped them a victory. The dawgs are way over rated this season. We’re not blind. Still we don’t need a blow hard from the cheatingest school in the nation telling us that. Go find some passed out man in a burgar joint somewhere and show him some of that Bama man love.

It’s not the fact that South Carolina is a crappy team, they are dang good, it’s the fact that Georgia was destroyed in every facet of the game. There is no reason a team with the talent of Georgia should get drilled like that. It’s coaching, it really is. National Title contenders don’t owned like this. I could understand a loss like LSU took, but not a 28 point shalacking.

October 8th, 2012

We as a defense get no pressure on the QB unless we blitz. Jones coming from the end untouched is the same as a blitz. I dont think Jenkins or anyone else outside of Jones got near Shaw all night. Very similiar in Tenn game.
Your front three/four have to pressure someone in the pass game. Also when they get beat they rarely raise their hands to bat down a pass. Get you hands up in the passing lanes if you cannot get to the QB.
That Defense should be better than 35 to SC with 9 starters returned.
