Home of UGA QB Murray, linebacker ‘egged and rolled’

A house shared by Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and senior linebacker Christian Robinson was “egged and rolled” Saturday, Robinson said on his Twitter account.

According to an Associated Press story, Robinson believes the vandalism was a result of the Bulldogs’ 35-7 loss to South Carolina Saturday night. “Seems that people turn on you when you’re not perfect,” Robinson said on his Twitter account. “Thought we were in this together.”

Here’s more from the AP story:

Georgia coach Mark Richt said he hadn’t heard of the players’ home being hit with eggs and littered with toilet paper until he was asked about the incident on his weekly teleconference Sunday afternoon.

“Sometimes that comes with the territory,” he said. “You’re a public figure and people get upset about things. It’s sad something like that would happen but it’s not shocking people get criticism or something like that happened to them when they’re in the type position those guys are in, especially the quarterback position.”

Richt said every quarterback he has coached since he was an assistant coach at Florida State has had to have unlisted telephone numbers “because you know there’s going to be somebody to call and say something foolish after the emotion of a game. Unfortunately, it’s part of it.”

Six hours after tweeting about the ugly scene at his home, Robinson followed with another post that seemed to follow Richt’s advice.

“Still get to be a hero this morning to little kids at Athens Church,” Robinson tweeted. “There are more important things in life than wins and losses.”

The kids that did this were not Georgia fans…believe it or not there are people who live in Athens that are not UGA fans that would love to rub in a loss.

Ken, if that is you attitude, keep your sorry butt at home. How many games have you played on a Saturday in div.I or better yet the SEC? It’s pitiful that so many grown men have to live out their fantasy with 18-22 year old kids.

I hope they catch these vandals and put them in jail. I am a dawg fan. It did hurt to get beat that bad by SC. I will get on this blog and complain with the other upset fans. There was no excuse to lose the way we did Sat. night.
It is totally unacceptable to damage someone elses property. Murray and Robinson did not lose the game. I knew SC was a better team. It should of been a closer game. CMR was not prepared as usual. That does not mean to go egg and roll someone’s house. Last week, all the fans were patting them on the back. WTH? Our OL are young. Our defense is way overrated. Did anyone think we were really going to win a NC this season. We are a 6-4 team. Anything better than that is a GIFT. SC DL is not overrated. SC has a real Hershall Walder comparison with the OL to blocl for him. Our OL is pieced together.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS WHOEVER DONE THIS TO THE PLAYERS NEED TO BE PUNISHED. SHAME ON YOU. COWARDS.

While I was as sick as any dawg fan watching that debacle on Sat night, there is no excuse for this. I am more embarassed by this act of vandalism than by our gameplan and execution on Sat night. It isn’t too far fetched to see how we could win out if we avoid any more “flat” games like Sat night. Carolina is good, they always view our game as one of if not their biggest game of the year, and they played with an intensity that we came no where near matching. However, they could lose their next 2 games (at LSU, at UF). The boorish behavior of fans these days blows my mind.
I also think back to 1980. Even though I was glad we won the MNC, the best “team” in the country was probably Pittsburgh. They went to Fla State and laid and egg early in the year and lost by a couple of TD’s to a 3 loss (I believe) FSU team. It was their only loss. I know it’s a stretch but at least it gives us some hope for our 2012 dawgs.

Even though it’s just a few out of thousands, do we really wonder why Dawg fans are ridiculed so bad. I’m just as dissappointed as the next Alumnus, trust me, but to take action like this is so redneck and in reading some of the comments by so-called dawg fans on these blogs I now get why people say the UGA has an awful fan base.
I have been a Richt supporter and still am. Maybe, not so much as an HC getting us over the hump of winning the big games, but ths man does a lot for the players on the team. What he brings them is much more than being a great HC. At saying that, UGA football program is at a crossroad and probably needs to look in another direction for their HC.
Here’s a thought – What if, some way some how, Dawgs do the same to UF (keep in mind I’m not saying they will) but what if they put a game together like SC did against us? Would we still feel the same about a new HC? I’m torn.

For all of you people wanting Richt fired (and I’m not defending him) who do you think would take the job? If we win out, win a bowl game and possibly wind up with 11 or 12 wins, then fire him, who would take the job under those circumstances? Richt needs to take back over the playcalling. Grantham needs to start putting the kids that give the best effort on the field. Where has C Wash been all year? Rambo is costing himself a lot of money with his off and on field performances. Shawn Williams has looked lost in coverage. It seems from the outside looking in that we have too many players (especially on D) worried about their draft status and not about what is going on around them right now.

I was fortunate to play for John Mckissick at Summerville high school in South Carolina. I learned quite a few lessons from him about the game of football and life lessons that follow after the game. Hold your head high after a defeat and be a man in winning. Apparently who ever egged the house was not raised right and does not understand this was a game and game only, life will go on until the next game. I am 61 years old now and still cherish my time with my head coach in regards to winning and losing and being a good sport, not demonstrating childish behavior in messing someone’s house up with toilet paper and eggs.

@ nate – I agree, who would UGA relace Richt with? WHo would come in and take the job and be able to keep the current recruiting class together and move UGA to the next level? I don’t know. It would not be Grantham, Gruden or some of the other names people like to throw around. My opinion of course.

I was also disppointed in the actions of the crowd at Turner Field Friday. I think I was more disappointed in them than I was the loss by the Braves. I’ve been a Braves fan for over 20 years and I just never would have expected anything like that from the fans. They and the players have always been above reacting in that way. I was hoping Chipper would come out on the field at some point and chastise the fans for losing control like that, but I guess he’s a much bigger person than they are. Sure will miss Chipper!

Most unfortunate. It’s just a game. Someone has to win and someone has to lose. Screaming and yelling during the game showing support for your team is one thing. Taking it out on student athletes or coaches after the game is another.

GT fan here. This is no big deal as long as no real damage was done. Houses get egged and rolled all the time. If you are going to get the praise, you have to accept the blame. However, if it esclates into violence or real damage to possesions, that is a different story.

These were not Georgia fans who did this, these were thugs. Real fans support the team no matter what, and understand that these are young adults playing a game. Murray just found out his dad has cancer, leave the kid alone! What stupid, stupid people that make the entire Bulldog nation look bad. Of course, when Atlanta fans trash their own field and endanger their own players by throwing beer bottles on the field, what can you expect? People nowadays believe there are no consequences for their actions, especially not hurting someone’s feelings.

Richt and his coaching staff should have been the ones to get rolled. Spurier knows how to motivate his players and Richt does not. Bobo has never done a good job as OC. I thought Granthem has looked good in the past , but not this year.. I know Georgia has more tallent in players than SC so this tells you its coaching ability. I heard Spurrier make this statement once that Georgia can make five star recruits into one star players, and that is about the truth… If UGA/USC played again next Sat. and Spurrier coached the dawgs and Richt coached SC my money would be on Spurrier…..!

Richt probably had some of his paid bloggers egg Murray’s house to shift the spotlight from his incompetent coaching.

I know many of you don’t think he would do that. I beg to differ.
Da Preacha man is stupid, but exceedingly sly and cunning. He can easily pay a couple of twits about $30K per year from his $3M+ salary to counter those of us who insist on canning this dimwit.

He is certainly cunning enough to know that something like this would deflect the spotlight from his performance and engender a little compassion.

Do not underestimate Richt.
