Time for Friday’s Braves game set at 5:07 p.m.

The Braves will play the St. Louis Cardinals Friday at 5:07 p.m. at Turner Field in the NL wild-card game, major league baseball announced. The one-game playoff will be televised by TBS.

Kris Medlen (10-1) will start for the Braves against right-hander Kyle Lohse (16-3) of the Cardinals. The winner of the game will advance to the NL Division Series.

Ticket windows at Turner Field will open at 8:30 a.m. Friday to buy or pick up pre-purchased tickets in advance and will remain open until the end of the 6th inning. Standing-room only tickets ($18 each) are also available. Suite tickets are available for $100 each (includes a $25 food and beverage credit added to ticket).

Parking lots will open five hours prior to first pitch and the Turner Field gates will open three hours before first pitch.

The AL wild-card game will be played at 8:37 p.m. Friday.

The Braves would play Sunday if they beat the Cardinals.

Last year when making the wildcard got you into the “real” playoffs, the Braves came up short of that. This year, when you needed to win the division to be guaranteed an actual playoff series, they came up short. When the division was still on the line the other night against the Pirates, we saw the typical Braves response to a game that mattered: no hitting or runs, and they came up short. I predict 4-5 hits, no more than one run, Medlen gives up one run in 7 innigs, the pen gives up one, and we are right where we were in early October last year. We just can’t win/hit when it REALLY matters.

A one game playoff? That’s not baseball, that’s football. In MLB, any team can beat any other team on any given day, which is why playoff series in baseball have generally involved multiple games. One game playoffs should only be for situations where teams are tied in the standings. The Braves won 7 more games than the Cardinals, and they shouldn’t have to face the Cardinals in a one game shootout.

I think it’s almost certain the Braves will lose this game. It’s an afternoon start at Turner Field, and the Braves tend to lose afternoon playoff games at home. Also, the underdog has an advantage in a one game playoff, as the pressure in such a situation is always on the team with the better record.

As far as I’m concerned, this new playoff format has ruined baseball. I mean, there isn’t much incentive to watch a team for a whole season, knowing that even if they make the playoffs, they can get knocked out in a single game, no matter how many games they won in the regular season.

Longtimefan

billyBob-Really?? Braves tied for the third best record in baseball and all you can do is bi&ch. Are you a fan or just a pessimist? What do the Braves have to do to please you? I, for one, am hoping they win and advance. They have the hottest pitcher in baseball starting at home. They have outplayed the Cards this year. Anything can happen but I choose to be optimistic and support my team, not be a dbag and predict they lose.

Longtimefan: I’ve been here since Davey Johnson was a second baseman, but the post-season failures wore me down. Braves hitters have no heart or fire in the post-season, all they do is pucker up and make outs. I don’t like it, but it is the truth. I want them to win, but deep down I know they won’t.

For those bashing Atlanta fans for whining about the 5:00 start…..Atlanta is horrific for traffic, especially Friday evenings (which starts at 3pm and lasts until 9pm nightly). Unemployment is about 9-10% in greater Atlanta so ditching work…for most…is not an option. 5pm is a lousy start time for fans in this city….hopefully folks who bought tix can get there and be loud…before the national media rip us for being bad fans…

Just remember this….. Eventually, ALL streaks come to an end. With each game the Braves win, the odds on the streak continuing get worse and worse. I think the streak ends tomorrow, as the team that is the hottest right now(Cardinals, 17 wins in the last 21 games) will prevail, and a Braves team that has trouble scoring more than 2 runs a game will be send Chipper out a loser. I have constantly stated on this forum all season, that the Braves have a good team, but not a playoff quality team. They have already exceeded their talent level, and fans should be proud of their season, but… the end is near IMHO. GO CARDS
