The stickers worn by Yunel Escobar contained a homophobic slur.
Major League Baseball is investigating former Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar after he wore a sticker containing a homophobic slur written in Spanish during a game.
Escobar, now with the Blue Jays, wore the sticker as eye black Saturday against the Red Sox. Players wear eye black to reduce glare but Escobar’s had words written on it.
The message was first noticed by a fan who took a photo of it from behind the Toronto dugout and posted it on photo-hosting site Flickr.

The Blue Jays released a statement Monday night, saying: “The Toronto Blue Jays do not support discrimination of any kind nor condone the message displayed by Yunel Escobar during Saturday’s game. The club takes this situation seriously and is investigating the matter.”
The Jays will hold a news conference at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday and Escobar is expected to attend.
Escobar was traded by the Braves to the Blue Jays on July 14, 2010, along with pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes, for shortstop Alex Gonzalez, infielder Tyler Pastornicky and pitcher Tim Collins.
Escobar is hitting .251 with 9 homers and 49 RBIs this season.

You can tell this is not a DOB blog. No politics allowed on there.
Yunel is a dunce anyway. We’ve known it for a long time. Nothing he does surprises, unless he actually acts with class and dignity.

@Edumacated brotha, BUY YOUR OWN HOUSE!! OBAMA 2012!! Leave gay people ALONE!! Just because you are heterosexual doesn’t mean your an Angel, you molest, kill, abuse babies & kids, kill, rape, torture, lie on others, hate others, steal, etc. WHEN YOU WALK ON WATER, THEN YOU BE JUDGEMENTAL. I’m not gay, but I have met some of the nicest gay people, much friendlier & nicer than most heterosexual demons.

No harm, no foul. He was just joking around. I don’t understand why people are so upset. There are other issues that are much more deserving of attention.

Given his “Orientation Reassignment” during his time & dating life in prison, was Yunel referring to Michael Vick?

Given his torrid affair with Larry Sinclair & (alleged) infidelity to his ugly wife Michelle, was Yunel directing that eye black to President Barry Born in Kenya?

Mike, how did you come up with the title? “Baseball investigating homophobic slur worn by ex-Brave”, by Mike Luck. What makes it a phobia to put that phrase on your eye black? Whether you are a homosexual or not (I’m NOT!), you can’t make the case that the phrase is in anyway indicative of any kind of phobia, homo or not. Liberal media types like to trot out such words to make a point that has no basis in factual reporting. Just report the facts and leave the opinions to the rest of us who are not getting paid to report the news.

WHY IS THIS ARTICLE TITLED “Ex brave……”. This should never be put in this context. He is a Toronto Blue Jay. AJC should only refer to Ex Brave if he did something good. It is not the Braves fault or the Braves’ fans fault this guy is a jerk. Guess he felt no one else could read Spanish. Stupid Blue Jay.
