South Carolina and Vanderbilt kick off the 2012 college football season Thursday night, and the season can’t come soon enough for coaches trying to keep their players out of trouble.
Three more players for prominent programs have been suspended, adding to the long list of athletes who have found trouble in the off season.
Auburn starting center Reese Dismukes was suspended by coach Gene Chizik after an arrest for public drunkenness early Saturday morning.
“I am very disappointed in Reese Dismukes for his irresponsible behavior last night,” Chizik said in a statement. “This kind of behavior will not be tolerated at Auburn and I have suspended Reese as a result of his actions.”
It was not known how long Dismukes’ suspension would be. He started all 13 games last season.
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly announced that starting tailback Cierre Wood and defensive end Justin Utupo have been suspended for two games for a violation of team rules. They join quarterback Tommy Rees in sitting out the season opener against Navy in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday.
“Our players are aware of the standards I set for our program and that failure to meet my expectations will result in consequences,” Kelly said. “Justin and Cierre violated our team rules so I’ve suspended them for the first two games of the season.”
It’s a familiar story, but it seems this season has seen even more high-profile players getting in trouble.
– Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell was dismissed from the team after being arrested on weapons charges in June. He transferred to Alabama State. Georgia players Alec Ogletree, Bacarri Rambo, Sanders Commings and Chase Vasser will also serve suspensions early in the season for various violations.
– Defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed by LSU earlier this month for a violation of team rules. He has reportedly enrolled in drug rehab.
– Tennessee wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers was suspended indefinitely by coach Derek Dooley, also for a violation of team rules. He has reportedly transferred to Tennessee Tech.
– Florida State defensive back Greg Reid was kicked off the team after his arrest on drug and other charges. He transferred to Valdosta State.
– Tailback Michael Dyer, who left Auburn amid discipline problems, was dismissed by Arkansas State after marijuana and a gun were allegedly found in his car during a traffic stop.
No doubt we’ve left some out and there are still three days until the season begins. Stay tuned.

“Oh and as for Nick Saban having no discipline problems…take a look at him real closely next time. Would you wanna go in his office and face him if you had been busted for a DUI, a gun charge, beating your girlfriend or been in a bar brawl?? ”
Yet his daughter gets into a drunken fight with another girl. They go to the hospital. Police are called, then university police and “school representative” show up and the story is buried.
Keep dreaming if you think players suddenly go cold turkey when they arrive at AL.

My players never mess up because they and everyone else think I am GOD. But I am best known to my friends as PRINCE OF DARKNESS. You know. SATAN. Nobody messes with SATAN.

This article mentions 9 players from 7 different programs. Each program has around 100 players on roster. So, 9 guys out of 700 (1.3% of the rosters) get in trouble and there is a “long list” of players getting in trouble according to this blog. 1.3%!!!! Everyone lock your doors. Buy a gun. Those college football players are on the prowl.
Irresponsible journalism. Please just give us the facts. We can figure out the rest for ourselves.
Thanks.

As I read the blogs…..a lot of you all are in denial or just dont have a clue. Question of the day….Can you find a squeaky clean Div-I FBS program? No it does not exist….We are talking about the kids that get caught…….What about the other 30-40% of the team that do the same things or more but never get caught……Stop being so quick to pass judgement. I am sure that if the same rules applied to everydaylife, many of the comments would become obsolete….

UGA has always led the NCAA…..So Georgie uses only 3-4 special admits per year?? This says otherwise http://www.fanblogs.com/ncaa/007731.php

Truth….
Sort of like Michigan reinstating their talented running back just in time to play againt Bama?
Sort of like Ohio State reinstating their MLB for the entire season after he beat up his girlfriend?
Sort of like…….(name a team and player)
Neither team is in the SEC by the way.

LSU dismissed their All-American CB.
Georgia dismissed their talented RB….for good.
Just so you know…..THE TRUTH.

@Bobo is Not the Problem
You refer to the Florida and Bama programs seemingly without respect. But it is interesting that Muschamp has seemingly curved the constant behavioral concerns that were hurting the Florida program by instituting the same CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT program at Florida that Saban uses at Bama. Just saying.

Boy, there sure are a lot of Dawg fans getting riled up here. The article is about college athletes getting suspended. Just because a headline mentions college kids getting in trouble, why do you just assume they are from UGA?

These so called high profile athletes are given so much attention when they arrive on campus, its a wonder more do not get in trouble. They hear how great they are, it goes to there head and then they think I can do whatever I want.
Too much attention given to these kids while they go through the recruiting process. Don’t tell them they will be the starting RB, QB, etc. make them earn it.

Heaven forbid other schools doing voluntary drug testing like FSU and UGA and more so, have a 3-strike policy. They should adopt the gaturds discipline policies of 8 strikes and you might be out and that doesn’t include shooting an uzi or using a dead women’s credit cards.

Primadonna football players in trouble? IMO, players who get in trouble (depending on the severity of the crime, i.e. Crowell, Reid, Dyer), should either be expelled, lose a year of eligibility, or suspended.
THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL!.
All the original school is doing is pushing the problem to another school/coaching staff/team.
Crowell, Reid, Da’Rick Rogers …. what lesson has any one of these 3 learned? NONE! They’re still playing football (and will continue to commit crimes – though I’m not sure what got DR suspended at UT)
