LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu dismissed from team

LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from the team, head coach Les Miles announced Friday.

Miles said Mathieu, a.ka. “The Honey Badger” was dismissed for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Miles said the violation was a school and team violation.

Miles said Mathieu was not yet eligible to turn pro, but he believed Mathieu “still has a bright future.”

Miles said it was a “longstanding rule” that Mathieu violated.

LSU enters the season with a preseason No. 1 ranking, but the loss of Mathieu removes one of the Tigers’ top playmakers, both on defense and special teams, where he was one of the top kick returners in the nation.

“It’s difficult at best,” said Miles, who called Mathieu “a quality, quality guy who had behavior issues.”

Matthieu was suspended for last season’s Auburn game for reportedly violating the team’s drug policy.

Mathieu becomes the third high-profile player to be dismissed from a Top 10 team in less than two months, joining Georgia’s Isaiah Crowell and Florida State’s Greg Reid.

Mr. Altahama Dawg so sorry! Perhaps I did misspeak! I was referring to said “G” which is on the University of Georgia Bulldogs game uniform helmets. Perhaps you were speaking of another combination of the University of Georgia Bulldogs Football Team logo! There are so many combinations I must have confused one or the other. So sorry! Maybe this Sports Dawg Blog Friendship Network is not for me or I am not skilled in the ways of this particular Sports Dawg Blog Friendship Network. Sorry for my intrusion. My father said I should not waste my time Sports Blogging but I enjoy it very much! Perhaps i should look to you-one who obviously spends all day making terrific biting comments about our foes the Gayturds and War Beagles. How do you do it? Are you gainfully employed? Surely you cannot be! Are you still wearing your pajamas? Are you in your Mother’s basement? Do tell!

A talented football player. Needs to learn that he must follow the same rules as the rest. LSU will miss his skills.

I gotta be honest though, If he got kicked off the team for failing a few tests for weed only I think it’s absurd. I see no reason for weed pee-testing at either the college or pro levels. It’s an invasion of privacy IMO. Now if he got caught smoking it or selling it out of his dorm room that would be different.

I’m a UGA fan and a Tech fan also, but I have to admit that Georgia only won one national championship in 1980 and the only reason they won that year was because they had the best college player in the history of the NCAA (Herschel Walker) and Tech won their last championship in 1990 and have won it a total of four times. For all the bragging the UGA fans do, you would think they were the best NCAA football team of all time! LOL.

after what went on at Penn State, AD’s & coaches are now keeping a short leash, which is much needed…I guess in some respects, college football is getting the message. Great talent with poor character choices + lack of discipline = future destruction for these guys, so hopefully they get the message and get their lives straightened out.

Most of the bloggers here seem to represent their schools poorly. Hahira Middle, Church St. Elementary, Carrollton Jr. High…. Nice to see that much like Jethro Bodine some of you can at least cipher though. You do have a lot of blind support for your chosen NFL minor league teams, I will give you that.

The kid has hurt his draft position after he lays out this year but will now get to shop around for agents and take an advance over the table. Smoke part of it up for a year and then play in the NFL. Or did some of you think he might have stayed for a post-graduate degree? even an associate degree?

I dont know if Mark Rich would have kicked the Honey Bagger off of the Bulldogs team or not since he has not shone he is a strick discipliner when it comes to players getting in trouble with the law or using drugs and sometimes even hitting their girlfriends which I think is a shame because it does not take a man to smack a woman around because it takes a man not to smack a woman around even if they need it from time to time. I think unless Rich wins 10 games this year we had better start a world wide search for a new coach who can take the Dog Nashun to the promised Land. Go Dogs. Sick em boys

St. Richt could learn a lesson from Coach Miles. He kicked the ‘face of the program’ off the team for drug violation while Coach St. Mark keeps multiple players ON THE TEAM for drug offenses.

Guys like Lone Ranger are laughable. He doesn’t know the facts. He doesn’t recognize that Miles, like Richt, Muschamp or any coach worth his salt, has a responsibility for a young man on his team, and feels remorse over this, and not just for the loss of his talent on the field. Miles has had him on a short leash ever since the suspension last fall.

The kid was likeable, and now he’s gone. Of course Miles tried everything to keep him on the team – what coach wouldn’t? In the end he couldn’t make an exception. The fact that it was stated that Mathieu was dismissed for violation of team and school rules was merely a statement of fact. But make no mistake, this was a decision between Miles and AD Joe Alleva.

GA Tiger, you make a good point. If UGA fans aren’t critical of Richt in our dismissals and suspensions (and I am), it’s a bit hypocritical to throw accusations at Les.

It makes me wonder, and this is not criticitism Bama fans, what Saban does different – he must put the fear of God in his players somehow in a way many other HCs haven’t been able to, including Myer, and lately, even Spurrier.
