LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu dismissed from team

LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from the team, head coach Les Miles announced Friday.

Miles said Mathieu, a.ka. “The Honey Badger” was dismissed for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Miles said the violation was a school and team violation.

Miles said Mathieu was not yet eligible to turn pro, but he believed Mathieu “still has a bright future.”

Miles said it was a “longstanding rule” that Mathieu violated.

LSU enters the season with a preseason No. 1 ranking, but the loss of Mathieu removes one of the Tigers’ top playmakers, both on defense and special teams, where he was one of the top kick returners in the nation.

“It’s difficult at best,” said Miles, who called Mathieu “a quality, quality guy who had behavior issues.”

Matthieu was suspended for last season’s Auburn game for reportedly violating the team’s drug policy.

Mathieu becomes the third high-profile player to be dismissed from a Top 10 team in less than two months, joining Georgia’s Isaiah Crowell and Florida State’s Greg Reid.

There have been several posts on this board alleging a failed drug test, (one even claims a 6th failed test) as the reason for Mathieu’s dismissal. That’s pure speculation. No reason was given by Miles or the university beyond violation of team rules, and none will be given. Statements about a failed test for synthetic marijuana before the AU game last year are similarly speculative. That speculation was widely reported at the time, but never confirmed. The university does not disclose specific information regarding dismissals unless they are otherwise public record.

Some Georgia fans think the entire AJC is a GEORGIA BLOG……been telling them the same thing for years…..they just don’t get it. One site clear says….RECRUITING BLOG….and they keep telling me to get off DAWG BLOGS….even when the topic of a story has nothing to do with the Dawgs. Some people are naturally gifted like the honeybadger.

Some think their God given talent allows them to do as they wish without consequences, others see their God given talent as an opportunity to excel-why do aso many of these atheletes get into these problems, I personally fault the coaches for their lack of background checks or the fact that their programs are more important to them than finding atheletes with quality values.

No school provides that…..but public arrests become public record…..Honeybadger obviously did something privately that Miles knew about and dismissed him….and most of us are reasonably assuming it was drug related……which is probably the case,….but will not be made public by LSU.

How much inbreeding is required to create a Bama fan. I guess it’s a good thing you guys have a good college football team, because you don’t have another thing in the whole darn state worth seeing.

Probably…..the guy who replaces Honeybadger in the starting lineup for LSU…..will be better than Honeybadger….you watch. That LSU team is loaded this year. If the QB plays well…..who will beat them? Of course, Blackout, Tide Roll, Bam fan….we know Bama of course. But I don’t think so….not this year.

TampaGator, I didn’t mean to imply any school would release otherwise private information. As for the reason for the dismissal, I don’t think it was one event, but rather a series of them. Frankly, I was saddened, but not really surprised by the news. I think Mathieu has been in Miles’ doghouse for some time. How else would you explain Miles leaving a Heisman candidate at home for SEC Media Days?

Some Dawg fans on here thing Honey Badger getting kicked off LSU’s team has something to do with the suspensions and kicked off players on their team…..explain that reasoning to me? Personally…..I get down every time a player gets suspended or kicked off any team. I felt bad for Leonard at Florida, Crowell at Georiga….and now Honeybadger at LSU…..because we will all not be able to watch their exceptional football talents in the SEC. Those gloating and comparing just don’t get it. THIS NEWS MAKES IT A SAD DAY FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL….and I wish the Honeybadgers of the world would start to get the gift and opportunity that has been naturally given to them….but they probaby will not…..

I certainly DO NOT feel sorry for any of them. They were given a scholarship to play football, a free ride to college, that alot of kids in high school would do anything for.
Do they have talent? Tons of it, however these guys think there are “above the law”, can do what they want. They read all this stuff how great they are, get on campus and everyone pats them on the back and they feel like they can do as they please.
Feel sorry for them, no way.
I say go to school, play football, keep your nose clean(no pun intended) & then get the millions of $$ that will come your way from the NFL.

But you are right…..I am a huge college football fan and read a lot about various teams and enjoy posting my opinions….particularily concerning the SEC……on those teams. All I can say to you is…..Florida has a lot of talent on its team, the players have worked extremely hard since the end of last year, Muschamp hired a better offensive coodinator who coaches fundamentals better and relates to college players much better, has hired a better offensive line coach that teaches fundamentals much better, and hired a much better strength and conditioning coach that has the entire team much bigger….and even faster. Florida will be a highly improved team this year….but the prove of the pudding begins with Bowling Green and then A&M out there. I have Florida finishing behind both Georgia and South Carolina this year…..but could finish on top if either of the two QBs make substantial progress this year…..and Pease is saying they have. We will see……as practice is just that….practice.

Bama only has 4 returning starters on defense. LSU is still the team to beat IMO! The way LSU has been recruiting, their backup would probably already be starting for most schools.

As usual, posts that are childish on all sides. I don’t mind being called an Updyke because it’s stupid to do so. I’m not glad Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed from the team. Why? Because I hate to see people mess up their lives with drugs. There are things that are WAY more important than name calling and sports. Y’all need to get your heads on straight. And I don’t hate Mark Richt. He is a swell recruiter, and a wonderful person.I think he has no kind of discipline and it shows on the field. Georgia needs a new coach that coaches and imposes discipline, and they could keep Mark on as a recruiter.
