Boomer Esiason: Jets should cut Tebow

Boomer Esiason is not backing down from his statement that the New York Jets should send Tim Tebow packing.

“If I were the Jets . . . I would cut Tim Tebow, I really would,” Esiason said Monday on his “Boomer & Carton” radio show on WFAN in New York. “It’s not in any way, shape or form, I think, benefiting this team.

“All you have to do is watch him throw the ball. I just think this whole thing, at least from my perspective right now in relation to who Mark Sanchez is — your starting quarterback — is a major mistake.”

WFAN reported that fan reaction was overwhelmingly anti-Esiason, but the former Pro Bowl QB was in no mood to back down Tuesday.

“I said what I said, I’m not gonna back down from it,” he said. “I have nothing personally against Tim Tebow. As a matter of fact, I like him very much, he’s a great guy, does great work off the field. But it really comes down to playing quarterback for the New York Jets and is he the right guy for this team at this time?”

Tebow, as usual, had nothing but kind words for Esiason, who played for the Bengals, Jets and Cardinals.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Mr. Esiason. I know he was a great player here and I wish him nothing but the best in his announcing. God bless him.”

Tebow won’t create controversy, leave him alone. No one can make it through a season with just one person at a position anyway. Tebow will be a great compliment and probably take pressure of Sanchez. Another person, and I might agree with boomer. Dawg Fan and fellow christian perspective.

Cut Tebow? Wouldn’t it make more sense to nail him to a cross?

Great passer or not, the guy brings positive karma to teammates around him. Check his red zone numbers last year in Denver. When his team is in the red zone and Tebow is on the field, they score points.

Boomer appears to be envious of another left handed quarterback that has a world of talent and someone who tries his hardest. I hated when Tebow beat us when he was at Florida, but in a world with unlimited bad news he is a breath of fresh air and what we wish all athletes would act like. Tebow will win football games and his legs will keep his team in many more. Boomer just appears to be jealous, mainly because his time is over and commentary is awful to listen to.

I saw Boomer get put on his ass when 1981 AU and Donnie Humphries beat his butt down at Jordan-Hare, picked him off in the end zone…Wish he would have stayed down with his stupid comments about Tebow. Tebow is a winner, Boomer didn’t win too many post season games if I recall throughout his under inspiring career. He did get him & Collinsworth to New Orleans for that Super Bowl against Joe Montana & 49Er’s but they uninspired football then, too~!

Shut up Boomer, you’re a whiner!@

Ff the Jets want to run an offensive scheme that primarily depends on the QB being able to throw the bad downfield, Tebow deosn’t have the skills to do it. To pretend otherwise will only lead to his inevitable failure of trying to be something he is not. He and Sanchez are not the same type of QB, never will be. It is not possible to simply exchange one for the other and use the same playbook. Not bashing your savior but if you need a round peg, don’t buy a square one.

It seems like these pseudo-christians worship Tebow. People, he’s not a God… he’s just a man and has not really proven he’s has the capability of leading a team to wins.

Boomer has a point…even if he didn’t make it well. It is a little strange that the Jets brought in a second starting quarterback. Are they planning to use Tebow a lot this year? Maybe they wanted to light a fire under Sanchez by sending him the message they could replace him. Maybe they wanted a strong back up plan in case Sanchez isn’t the future star they thought he was.

Expressing a dissenting view doesn’t make someone a hater and the people bashing Boomer are almost as bad as the anti-Chick-fil-A crowd.

I am tired of the word hater being thrown around so freely. Just because someone questions a players skills, does not mean they are a hater. Boomer has praised Tebow and his work ethic as well as work off the field. Because Tebow is a nice guy and does great charity work, doesn’t mean he can’t get legitimate criticism of his playing or skills. Grow up people and stop throwing around the word hater, when you don’t even know what it means.

Anyone who thinks Tebow is a better QB than Sanchez is either retarted or never seen Tebow throw a football. Yes he is a great person and a great runner, but I could thow a football better at 10. He looks like how sanchez would if he threw with his left hand.

Deepdiver-Teebow won the starting job at Denver when they were 1-4. The Broncos, with Teebow at QB proceeded to win the AFC West tityle while dual threat Teebow smashed all NFL QB rushing records. So, still agree with Boomer that Teebow is not a winner? Did Boomer evr turn a 1-4 team into a conference champion? (No) Did Boomer ever smash any records, rushing or other wise? (No) So based on statistics alone Teebow accomplished more in 2 seasons, is a winner, and Boomer should crawl back in his radio show hole.

I think Tebow is filiing more stadium seats than Boomer ever did. Perhaps there’s some envy involved in this situation. Get over it old timer. Truth be known, you aren’t that good behind the mic. Maybe that’s why you said it……needing some attention? Tebow probably should be an RB but that’s a coaching decision. I’m happy to see the guy succeed.

OK, from an X’s & O’s stand point Tebow is a good addition to the team especially with Sparano being the new Offensive Coordinator and the WildCat the Jets will be running more often. But when considering Sanchez’s supposed fagility and, at times, shotty play I dont think that it’ll work out. Tebow is NOT a starting quarterback, he is a skilled athlete, but he is most certainly NOT an NFL quarterback. All that being said, I really cant stand all the religious overtones. Jesus has nothing to do with this and I am so sick of all these religious idiots who know nothing about football adding their two cents. Keep your fatih to yourself and unless you have an intelligent comment that is purely football related, JUST SHUT UP!

espN.Y. : N.Y., that’s for New York, because that’s all they ever report, everyone and everywhere doesn’y matter.

So, espny works double overtime trying to bury this kid ONLY because he dares say he is a Christian. So now the template for how to report any story when the name Tebow comes up, is set. This is the same deal as the folks who want to demonize Chick-fil-A (or anyone else, doesn’t matter who) when they show up and say, “I’m so-and-so, and I’m Christian.”

Excuse me, espny, but last year Tebow led Denver on a win streak, then won a playoff game– in overtime, against the forever very tough Pittsburgh defense! And these hacks like Esaison and Shlereth, et all, still just pound on this guy incessantly & mercilessly. It is so tranparent that I usually flip the channel as soon as they start in. Hey Boomer, Mark, & company: Get over yourselves!! Some of us don’t care what you think and certainly aint buying your form of intolerance and hate.

I really think if the “Christian” element wasn’t a part of Tebow’s persona, you would probably hear them report that “he’s a great kid who just needs 3-4 four years to develop, just like many other QBs who have played in the NFL. Under the right coach and right system, maybe he makes it, maybe he won’t.” How simple is that!

And he’s not an NFL QB? I suspect you are no more than a 2nd string HS guard who wouldn’t knopw an NFL Qb if he ran over you. Back to your cubicle!

The problem with the majority of Tebow fans is that they cannot disassociate their love of Jesus and Tebow. Its impossible for them to differentiate the two. Tebow is not Jesus…. Tebow has the QB mechanics of a 10 year old. He throws the worst passes. He has no raw talent or ability at QB. He is nothing but a distraction on and off the field. Tebow is a great human being but a horrible QB. He is better suited at TE or FB in the Red Zone…

You idiots dont realize that maybe a pro QB like Boomer might actually know a little bit about throwing the football at the QB position. He would be a far better person to listen to then myself or 99% of the people here. You guys are just mad because he has the balls to stand up and say something that isn’t politically correct right now….and that’s dissing Tebow…
