NBC spoils Missy Franklin’s gold medal race

But the network spoiled the event for millions of viewers just six minutes before the race, airing a promo for Tuesday’s “Today” show that began, “When you’re 17 years old and win your first gold medal, there’s nobody you’d rather share it with. We’re there when Missy Franklin and her parents reunite …”
And for the benefit of those who might have had their TV muted, NBC showed a full-screen photo of Franklin posing with her gold medal.
The Twitterverse wasn’t kind to the Peacock Network:

The 17-year-old Coloradan is trying to match East German swimmer Kristin Otto’s women’s Olympic record of six individual gold medals. Will NBC spoil them all?

Lousy coverage. Men’s gymnastics last night was the pits. Poor cameras, lousy announcers, no scoreboard to show judges scores. Really pitiful. I hope no brains NBC never is the network again

Everyone knows theh primetime coverage is not live. I am recording them, and playing back starting about 30 minutes later; skipping commercials. So I never saw NBC’s mistake. Nothing was spoiled for me. I think they are doing a fine job. It’s not easy pleasing everyone when the entire primetime coverage is delayed anyways. It someone doesn’t want to know what happened they had better not visit ANY news sight during the day. It’s all there on the front page of most way before primetime……

From the left-wing opening ceremony chatter to the blunder last night, the big names at NBC, Bob Costas, Matt Lauer and Ryan Seacrest, have been pompous and boring. When they and a few others are on, I turn the sound down and find it enjoyable.

Apparently, about the only thing NBC can do now is work underhandedly to suspend a newspaper reporter’s Twitter account because he dare express frustration with NBC’s inneptness! Posting a corporate email account which is a part of public record and lying to the world that Twitter suspended the reporter’s account “for sharing private information,” is part and parcel for this network.
NBC is currently managed by politically motivated cronies of questionable professional credentials.

First off, CONGRATS MISSY… and I would like to say, I am NOT a republican, hell, I voted for Obama the first time, WONT THE SECOND TIME, I voted for Bill Clinton TWICE, so don’t CALL ME A REPUBLICAN, call me someone that cares about the country and cares enough to see the direction its going, and it’s the WRONG direction… PERIOD!!!! and if you don’t think so, look up socialism and do some reading, look at OBAMA care and I would love for someone to explain to me, how this is better for the country. The way it sounds it’s a great plan, but on paper it will bankrupt this country. How, think of this, you don’t need to sign up for it until you need it, they pay a tax (penalty) if you need it, so why would I sign up for it, until I need it. IT will tax the system to no end, and is the equivalent of calling Allstate 10 minutes after you had a car accident and expecting them to pay all of your repairs and medical bills if you just give them your deductible!…READ THE FACTS PEOPLE, it’s not about voting for a color or a rich person, it’s about what’s BEST FOR YOU and your future!… Obama is not the answer!!!

NBC USED to be my favorite network: they couldn’t find a decent replacement for Tim Russert; they bow down to Matt Lauer like he’s some sort of media gold (but in actuality he’s just a grossly overpaid prick); because of that Ann Curry got the most major shaft in modern television history; they think there ish doesn’t stink because they have exclusive rights to Olympic broadcasting in the U.S.; etc., etc., etc…
I can’t stand this network now, and have taken every recent move they’ve made personally.
As for the Missy Franklin botch, I think it shows how they are just trying so hard to remain relevant, but really have no idea what they’re doing. It’s painfully simplistic to say, but incompetence seems to run deep with that network.

Guys guys…………. just like Obama said…………anyone who did anything didnt do it on their own. Missy’s gold was not a result of her years of hard work and dedication, it was because the UK government paid for roads that allowed her to drive to the event, and because the internet was funded through the government and made it possible for her coach to order her some new goggles that she couldn’t find in a regular swimming store. And they banned a guy from a brit newspaper living here for criticizing their pathetic coverage and showing hardly anything live. I have a friend in mexico and 3 channels showed the opening ceremony and they see so much live unlike here. nbc is an absolute joke and their coverage is pathetic.

Am I the only one wondering why NBC has continued to air MLS games on their sister stations while the Olympics are going on?
Turner Sports, PLEASE make a bid for the 2016 games!?!?! At least then we’ll know there will be at least THREE cable channels devoted solely to the games.

Mike, nbc is a staunch supporter of obuma. They are obviously in the tank for him. I don’t see people criticizing prezbo, yet it’s fully warranted considering how bad our economy is with 5 trillion wasted in 3 years under his regime. I’m in London, so I haven’t seen NBC’s coverage, but I can tell you that what I have seen in the past on NBC Olympic coverage is far superior to what I am seeing on the BBC right now. A viewer here can barely follow the action because all the commentators are so focused on just the British athletes. They literally cheer for them on the air and hardly mention who medals unless it is a Brit. They also really avoid paying any complement to USA. But, the people of London and UK have been great host!

It’s amazing that a post about NBC spoilers turns into an anti-Obama screed. It’s really sad that individuals and with their own agenda will ruin virtually every blog to get their vitriol out there. An example of this is blogs about the Falcons. I’m a Falcons fan and would love to read intelligent comments, but the blogs are virtually always ruined by ugly human beings from New Orleans posting their ugly comments.

I had commercial skip on so I missed the NBC faux pas but, back to politics. Yes, I am obsesed because no matter who I vote for, Dem or Rep nothing is ever fixed and it the same old problems they keep telling me they are going to fix are not fixed. I’ve come to the conclusion that there is really only one political party and they play good cop/bad cop every election cycle to stay in power. We need a true 2 party system.

I was home sick yesterday and the Olympics were on four channels (all NBC owned). It was also available on their website. NBC paid a fortune for these games and it trying to maximize their value. I don’t have any issue with their coverage and enjoy it.
