‘Today Show’ crew apparently didn’t recognize Holyfield

Evander Holyfield is just like any other random tourist in London — at least, that’s what it seemed like when he was interviewed by a “Today Show” crew.

Outside Buckingham Palace, the former heavyweight boxing champion was asked what he thought about Queen Elizabeth II’s James Bond intro during the opening ceremony, which he thought was “wonderful,” Deadspin.com reported.

But that was it. There was no acknowledgement of his sporting exploits, including winning a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Holyfield tweeted Monday morning, “The @todayshow did interview me yesterday and ur right they didn’t mention who I was.”

Perhaps Bond would be proud of Holyfield’s ability to go undercover.

That’s incredible. Today Show must be using interns to do the man on the street interviews again!

He was at the bank of america in midtown last saturday. I knew who he was right away. He is much skinnier now than he was when he was boxing. However his face is very distincitive. People were coming up to him and shaking his hand and he was very nice.

“Hey, get that black guy to do an interview. He looks interesting.”

Evander is definitely skinnier than his fighting days (he was never huge) but someone above mentioned his mug. I don’t know how anyone could forget that mug.

He would have been recognized in Atlanta. That person should be fired if he doesn’t recognize famous people like this. These are great opportunities he’s missing for Today.

Holyfield’s definition of broke and your definition of broke, may very well be different. Besides, it just a ticket to London. He could have purchased the tickets months ago. Regarding the kids; would you take kids out of the country days before the school years starts?

I saw Holyfield on the transit train at Hartsfield one night after he had recently defended his title. He had only two others with him and he was an absolute gentleman who spike to those that recognized him politely and with class.

@Mickey Mouse: The “ear-biting” title belongs to Mike Tyson, who bit Evander’s ear when Tyson realized that he was about to lose the fight……

NBC almost missed “Fast & Furious”. They nearly missed the impeachment of Eric Holder. And so many other things.

Why would any learned individual have expectations that NBC would either recognize or report on anything/anybody important? This is entirely consistent.

Evander just lost his 18 million$$ mansion to foreclosure. He earned more than $250 million but I am betting Don King and sililar ilk wound up with most of Evander’s earnings. Not to mention 9 kids by 6 different women.

Although I may have walked away from my mortgage, I am just one of the thousands who have done the same all over our great country due to falling home values. Do you really think some sucker was gonna come along and buy it for $15 million in this economy #smartbusinessmove? Now I can pay my child support from the money I’m saving.

I think he lives in our condo complex now.. We have seen him a couple times recently, once with a small child.. He looks like he is happy and in great health. We would have loved to shake his hand but decided to be respectful ..maybe next time

Financual situation aside, he is still a great boxer who made history more than once! I met him at a broadcast show…he was awesome. I will never forget how friendly he was to me and the crew. I wish him well as should all of you!

9 kids from 6 different brood mares. Sounds just like a black sports figure in Atlanta, not worth noting at the Olympics.

Holyfield is a bafoon. Of all the boxers, I can think of, he represents the sport the worst. Ok, Tyson would be the worst but Holyfield would be a close second.

In Holyfield’s case, once a grocery boy, always a grocery boy.

Cut him some slack. Those who had more than him have fallen on hard times. He is one of the nicest people I know and I know him from way back. For richer or poorer, for better or worse.

When you go online and call someone like Holyfield a buffoon, your case is undermined first by the fact you’re anonymously calling someone a name which makes you a wimpy coward, and by the fact you can’t spell “bafoon” can you ‘Where Ali was articulate’? Say something nice for once.

I know very well what Evander looks like. I live in Atlanta. But I can tell you, when I am in public, i am not looking out for famous people. I would not recognize him id passing him by on the street. Hell, on a flight from LA to Atlanta, i was sitting next to David Carradine and didn’t really recognize him until we started talking toward the end of the flight (We both chose to sleep). Then while talking to him I said “Do you know who you look like?” He said “David Carradine?” “Then i said…No, his father John Carradine….then I winked and he broke out laughing.

Speaking of cases, idiot, you don’t spell check someone’s post in a thread. To do so, makes you a very uninformed ignoramus as the idiosyncrasies of a thread.

I would recognize him. I had the pleasure of meeting him once at a toy store.I approached him and asked him for his autograph which he gave me and it is still hanging up in a frame in my son’s room today along with others. My son is now 24 yrs old and I got this autograph when he was10. Holyfield was also nice enough to help me with my HUGH box from the toy store. He took it to my car and helped me secure it. His wife was also with him.She was also super nice and friendly. I asked him for help with my box and he said no problem

I remember back in my 20’s when a me and a buddy saw him and presumably one of his baby mommas at a GAP store. I never even recognized him, it was my friend who pointed him out to me. He didn’t seem really big in person but then again he probably wasn’t on the juice and training for a fight at the time.
