UPDATE: Head coach Derek Dooley has responded to the vandalism incident involving quarterback Tyler Bray, saying he was disappointed in his quarterback, and then joking about it.
Dooley’s reaction, reported in the Tennessean:
“He’s made some progress in a lot of areas, but that’s just silly behavior. Any time we get a little negative publicity for our program, we take it seriously.”
“Obviously, his accuracy isn’t where it needs to be. He missed the trash can.”

Tyler Bray was accused of throwing beer bottles and golf balls from his apartment balcony. (UT Athletic Dept. photo)
Bray, 20, has offered to pay for the damages he inflicted to one of the cars, so he will not be charged in that incident, police told the Knoxville News-Sentinel.
“The victim called us and said she no longer wishes to prosecute,” Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told GoVolsxtra.com, part of the newspaper’s website. “[Bray] reached out to her and told her he would take care of the damages to her vehicle,” he said.
The victim, Bradi Hudson, said the windshield of her 2008 Ford was broken and that Bray and his roommate also damaged the car last Friday.
Hudson told police that after the Friday incident Kirstie Allen, another resident of the apartment complex, told her that Bray and roommate Michael Grandinetti were responsible for the damage.
On Monday, Allen, called police to report that her windshield had been smashed in apparent retaliation for implicating Bray and Grandinetti.
She told police that Bray and Grandinetti had thrown beer bottles off a balcony and onto vehicles in the parking lot, the Associated Press reported. The report quotes her as saying an office manager for the complex told her Bray and Grandinetti had been “served with an eviction notice just prior to her arriving home.”
As of Thursday morning, Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley had not commented, even though police said they notified him of the incident on Monday.
The Vols open the season Aug. 31 against North Carolina State in the Georgia Dome.

How is that we are the ones with discipline issues? DD won’t suspend this kid because he is on the hot seat and wants to keep his job. It’s sad but I can’t say I blame DD. I blame the win at all cost SEC mentality. NFL would suspend Bray but SEC coaches won’t.

I agree with CarolinaDawg, The Athens police would not care if charges were charged or not, they would have hauled him off to Clarke County jail, called the AJC, and the chief of police would have called a press conference to ensure that the world knew that they had nabbed anther GA player. And of course Richt would be held responsible even though he would probably would have already suspended him, i.e., Mettenburb, Crowell, and a host of others. UGA doesn’t have a disciple problem, they actually disciple. I will waiting with bated breath to hear what comes out of Knoxville. I dont think that football players are ABOVE the law but I do think the community should have a certain degree of understanding for these kids. They are under tremendous amounts of pressure and a constant spotlight. Any and everything they do is scrutanized. I agree with the decesion to drop the charges. He realizes his mistake and has agreed to pay for damages. Whats the problem? We need to see this same sort of support from the Athens community in regards to our players. I dont care if mama and daddy paid the girl off or whatever happened, the bottom line is this kid helps you draws millions of dollars every year. He made a bad judgement call, probably drunk lol, but nontheless, pick him up, dust him off and keep it moving. If Murray had been caught doing this at UGA it would be in the ajc headlines, he’d be arrested by the campus police and CMR would suspend him for at least 1and maybe more games. And we get hammered when one of our players gets caught peeing on a bush at 2 in the morning with a beer in his hand. Bray said before the incident he ate a big tray of brownies but did not know they were laced with weed. He then left his apartment to get some beer with a loaded gun under the seat with the serial numbers filed off. After picking up the beer, he stopped by his girlfriend’s apartment and smacked her around a little bit. He then drove home drunk with a pair of red panties around his head. That is when he threw the beer bottles off the balcony……….hmmmmmmm almost sounds like a UGA thug.

Some of you insecure Bulldog fans need to get a life. The kid threw a couple of beer bottles. Is it stupid and childish? Yes. However it hardly the same as driving with a concealed weapon with the serial number filed off.
I mean, I used to see guys throwing beer bottles practically on a weekly basis, its not exactly shocking. Bray is very immature but lets not make this out to be more than it is.
Some of you need to get a life. A football team with 85 18-22 year old men is going to have some run ins with the law. In my fraternity of 100 guys or so, DUI, underage drining, public intox, possession happened all the time. Many of my brothers are now lawyers, doctors, high level executives….stuff happens.

Shocker! College kids do stupid stuff! The underage drinking of Bray (I assume college kids would empty them before throwing them!) is against the law and something CDD should be aware of and handle, but destruction of property is entirely different. I have consumed some alcohol in my day, but I never emptied the bottle and thought, “You know I wonder how it would feel to smash this into a car!” I am also sure that the Knoxville PD is still investigating what happened to Ms. Allen’s car and whether some witness intimidation was involved. Remember the case where the off-duty police officer was left lying unconcious and UT players were involved and no charges were filed regarding his beating? See the pattern now? You are right that young people do stupid stuff, but damaging property and beating people up goes beyond stupid stuff like underage drinking, driving the wrong way, driving nude, driving a moped without a license, shooting fireworks in a parking deck, etc.

All of you UGA fans need to come off this “we discipline our players so much more” crap. First of all Crowell was kicked off the teams for a weapons charge. Not only a weapons charge but having a concealed weapons that had the serial numbers altered, a serious offense. Now what Bray did was stupid, and is inexcusable for someone who at this point knows he is always in the spotlight, but vandalism is a far cry from concealed altered gun charge.

Seriously, if this were Aaron Murray and UGA, it would be on the front page, he would have been arrested, and suspension would follow. This only proves the point I’ve been trying to make with others in conversation, UGA is held to a higher standard. In Knoxville, no charges. This is very consistent with the other types of situations where the “charges were dropped” as well. Remember the bar fight a year or two ago? Nothing came of all that either. At UGA, players would have been booted off the team. Amazing.

How many of you sat around your apartments while you were in college and thought that chunking beer bottles and golf balls at other peoples cars would be a fun thing to do. While I will admit that he didn’t exactly commit murder, if it had been any of you vollies new 4WD coonhuntin’ truck that got damaged would you be this forgiving? He vandalized other peoples’ property and since he will get off lightly in Obknoxville, he will probably repeat his stupid behavior. In Atherns, we have had players pulled over and “taken downtown” because they had a tag light out but in Knoxville players get away with vandalism, beating up an off duty cop while he was on the ground, and attempted robbery of people in a compact car at a convenience store. In Knoxville, discipline trumps all!

The situations Bray and Crowell got caught up in are two completely different stories. I don’t recall Crowell threatening anyone or using the weapon in any way, shape or form. On the other hand, Bray actually damaged/vandalized property and no files were charged. That to me, is a head scratcher. Trust me, I am glad Crowell is off the team at UGA. I don’t want kids who make those decisions (toting guns on around) on the team, but for UT not to do anything to Bray or D’Arick for beating up a police officer, that is just sad. No suspensions! I’m not an UGA alumnus, but I’ve lived in Athens since 1987. I truly believe the continuing problems with the Dawgs aren’t due to Richt recruiting “thugs”–same “thugs”, then, everyone else is recruiting!”–but the city of Athens itself. Don’t get me wrong; I love living in Athens! But the campus and the city itself are surrounded by some very tough neighborhoods. Anything a person could want is literally within walking distance from campus. Downtown Athens on almost any night of the week is like attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans! Fake ID’s are available almost every where.

Years went by where a kid would get out of line and Richt would do nothing. Only after years where it appeared that Richt was soft on discipline that he made a immediate change. One of these days you pups will figure out Richt is afraid of some of them.

Hey atlvol55, so you threw beer bottles when you were their age…did you throw em at people and/or their cars? And as for young Mr Crowell, sure it was wrong for him to have a gun without a permit and who knows how or when the number was removed, but seems to me some UT ball players stuck a gun – albeit a starter’s pistol or something – in somebody’s face and demanded money…and as soon as the victims found out it was a Ut footballer he said he wouldn’t press charges. Something about The Vols needing all the help they could get. Tell me is that guy still on the team? Crowell ain’t – and while we’re at it your star WR Da’Rick kicked a cop in the head during a melee outside a bar and last I heard he was still suitin up. So let’s don’t be playing the ‘who’s worse’ card, OK?

FYI hardcore, I talked to a current UGA student who witnessed the Commings incident and he stated that at no time did Commings hit the girl. He said the only thing he saw Commings do is he grabbed her by the arm and pushed her away when she tried to hit him.
I guess if he would have pushed her to the pavement, and then while she was lying on the ground he could have kicked her in the head (Da’rick style), then that would’ve been OK.

Sure shows where we are as a society when people (like the poster from Warner Robbins) excuse this behavior as “just college kids being college kids – maybe he was drunk.” Uh, seriously? You excuse him for being DRUNK? I guess you want to excuse everything DRUNKS do? You’d all think differently had Bray done it to your car, or, if in his DRUNKENNESS (which was already stated as your excuse) he had hit a PERSON with the beer bottles. Those things can kill. Well, probably not when thrown by Bray but still.

JMHO – but I see a program like UGA that would kick this guy’s butt and throw him out for this as a high caliber, more respectable program than UT not doing anything about it, regardless of the results on the field. If UGA lost games because they threw a kid out for something like this, and lost to teams that kept guys that pulled the same crap, I say UGA is still better. Integrity and honor count more.
I’m a transplanted Hokie alum from VA, but I have to say I do respect the way UGA and Richt run their program. Certain things are more important than wins. The UGA leadership gets that. Kudo’s to them!

Hackjobs, the victim wishing to press charges or not may be taken into consideration by police or prosecutors but it’s definitely not a necessary component. Vandalism is against the laws of the state and as such, technically the state is the injured party in a criminal case. The issue of personal recompense for the victim is at her sole discretion in civil cases. As such, she could personally decide to sue or not to sue this guy.
Also agree that if this was in Athens, he’d be looking at a suspension off the bat. Probably will have to run some extra laps at UT.

To all those that are challenged in reading comprehension (especially those UT sycophants here), there were two separate incidents in which this idiot vandalized cars. One of the victims (Hudson) declined to file chargers, however, there is absolutely no indication the second one (Allen), which had her car damaged in retaliation for telling the first victim that she is not going to pursue this further. So before fools start saying no chargers were filed, wait to see what happens in the second case (though I’m not holding my breath since this is in Knoxville after all).

It is time we (college football fans) face the fact that the inmates are running the asylum! The repetitious reports of players running outside of the law and NO CHARGES were filed is making me wonder why. Why does this go on and on and yet the players never miss a down in a game. And why do we ignore the character of these players as long as they help our teams win on Saturdays! If the coaches/AD’s can’t make it “right” they follow the lead of the UF’s and ALA’s and hand-pick a game that “precious” will sit out ONE series!

Well yeah…we might have thugs on our team….yep…we all do…but the difference is that Richt will ACTUALLY hold them accountable…..and your bunch of slimeball coaches/administration/etc will not…never have, never will. There is your difference…what exactly does it take for a Vol starter to get kicked off the team? I dunno….what does it take for a Vol Starter to sit out an entire game? I dunno….your idea of punishment (if warrented) is for a player to sit out the National Anthem! But then it has to be something more serious than beating a cop into a coma….EweTee baby!

Vols players are mostly thugs and delinquents. One of the most horrific killers in Knoxville history, Lemaricus Davidson in the Christian /Newsome case was recruited by Fulmer. As a former Knoxvillian, it’s a weekly occurrence to see a player in trouble and rarely disciplined. Role models they are not, but they are treated like rock stars and still don’t have the intelligence to stay out of trouble and change their lives. Pathetic.

Police now saying the retaliation window smashing and car damage was not related to the first incident. How stupid are folks in K’ville to believe that. 3 Vol players, all with rap sheets, swear that Bray was with them somewhere else at the time of the second vandalism. Girl #2 won’t drop charges so K’ville. cops drop investigation. Dooley buys it all. The AJC would go nuts over this if it was UGA. Talk about Loss of Institutional Control. The Coach doesn’t run the Univ., the players run the Coach. Ya gotta be embarassed for Dooley, he is such a wimp.

Difference is Sanders was kicked of the team at UGA for first offense. Bray was named ‘face of the offense’ by Dooley and no punishment at all. Oops, forgot he admitted to the first vandalism and offered to pay the damages so that is being called punishment. The second offense, due to the expense of the damage, is a felony in Tennessee. Little Tyler won’t admit to that one.

Bray was destroying peoples property because the whinny little coward was miffed because some lady point him out for being the jerk he is. Again Johnson you show your ignorance. There was never any drug related charges. Because clueless as you most definitely are, the law never found any drugs on him, in his car nor on any of his passenger’s. In other word’s mr clueless, there was no drugs. That will be the one thing that is gonna kill the DA’s chance’s of ever convicting Crowell when court rolls around. And yes I know that having a gun without the serial numbers is a crime. I also know that it is a felony to carry a concealed hand gun even if legally obtained. It is also against the law to have a hand gun on your person in a public place without a permit to carry a side arm. I know the gun law’s as well as you do, probably better. I also know that it is a felony to throw objects at cars. I also know that felonies start at a certain dollar amount. Pretty sure a smashed car window would take Mr Bray beyond the misdemeanor charges on that dollar amount thing. I think that over $300 constitutes a felony.

Pushups may suffice for Bray as long as the harmed elect NOT to file charges just as I’ll elect not to call you a dummy in my response, fool.

It’s funny how UT continues to not suspend their players when they break the law and the charges are usually dropped or no charges are brought against their players at all.

Got to feel sorry for Bray a little. He is under tremendous pressure, never mind this lapse in judgement. UT is going through what us UGA fans called “the Ray Goff years.” With their defense lacking much, they will be fortunate to win seven games. Of course, the way Richt prepares his team for UT (and UGA will obviously be favored), Bray and company will throw for 400+ yards and either lose a close one or squeak by in an upset which is an occasional tradition for UT in Athens under Mark Richt (that is winning a game there when they supposedly have no chance). UGA should beat UT by four touchdowns but won’t. Something has to give in the SEC East, and it won’t be Spurrier. Either Muschamp, Dooley or Richt will be gone after 2012. You can take that to the bank and pay off the mortgage. If Richt loses to UT, it will probably be his last season. Oh yeah, I’m a Hartmann Fund donor and family friend of some very wealthy alumni.

Vol fan for over 40 years. This team will not win seven games, no way. Hamilton destroyed the program but new coach in 2013 will get the ship back in the water. Rogers will thankfully be gone after this season as he has been a cancer. Dooley has helped, but he can’t win at this level. Didn’t bother with tickets to the UGA game for the first time since division play started in ‘92. Bama, Carolina and UGA will probably beat us by 30 plus, and even NC State will probably beat us. We’ve got absolutely nothing on defense…and I mean nothing.

So intimadation and threats are okay here, as well putting fear into this girls life. I wonder if the QB will have any legs left after running his butt off for a week or longer. This smarts or self contempt from the so called leader of the team. I hope for Tenn. that this nut case is not their starting QB. On second thought, hope he does start as UGA will have a bunch to get into his head with. They will start off calling him a winnie and a closet / balcony preditor. Go figure, bored, lazy, selfish, idiot, so called student/athlete, and the list goes on. What is happening to us in America?
You would think by the time we are 20 we would not act like we are 13. Wake up call for our kids as they are very immature for their age. Years ago a guy like this would be so embarrassed, he could not go back to school. Today he will get high five for what other idiots will call a display of his inner manhood.
My last thought is schools, administrative groups, and leaders should say one and done period. The punishment is not sever enough to deter people from stupid, and people are not this stupid.

So how is it Tyler Bray had beer bottles to throw when the drinking age in Tennessee is 21 and he is only 20. Guess Precious Orange Dooley is not as particular as Coach Strict Richt.

I am honestly speechless that so many in the UT community arent more outraged over this situation. Its appalling to begin with, then the lack of respect due the situation by DD and all involved makes us look like the laughingstock of college football. Especially in light of the Joe Paterno situation, we all see what ’sweeping under the carpet’ can lead too. Dooley needs to show some respect and do something so as not to be construed as covering up.
What Mr. Bray did, is a FELONY under Tennessee Law(over $500 damage, and he did it twice) . I know there are a bunch of ‘hes only a kid, let it alone’ types out there but….the second incident which was done in “RETALIATION” shows that there is a serious problem here, and the coach sweeping it under the rug puts him in the same category as any college coach or administrator that puts the FOOTBALL TEAM above all else. Sure, it isnt Child Molesting but right now, do we really want our team and our Coach(who I have NO RESPECT FOR AT ALL, and I will be cancelling my annual donation of $500 to the Athletic Fund today) considered in the same thought process as Joe Paterno and other inherently flawed people in his position.

Also, just because Mr. Bray was lucky enough that nobody was in the parking lot when he was throwing the stuff, doesnt excuse his actions. I can give you the name and number of a former college student, now 39, that was paralyzed from the neck down when a beer bottle thrown by ‘a member’ of a college football team in ohio hit him on the back of the head. That would have been instant 2 year jail time.
By inaction, Dooley and the ENTIRE Tennessee community are looking like fools. All Alumnus right now, well, at least the ones with an IQ and all their teeth, are not very proud right now.

for all y’all saying he should get an underage consumption charge, it’s pretty difficult to charge someone with underage consumption after the fact. I am in no way saying he wasn’t drinking – he almost definitely was, but he was also with a 26 year old who could easily just say, “I drank the beer, not Tyler.” Case closed.

He needs to be dismissed from the team, period. Once again it is time for college athletics to clean up the sport. You are not special just because you play football. Go play Div 3 somewhere. As far as I am concerned you are paid with your scholarship and have a chance at a great college education for free just because you can do something with a ball? It is time for all of us to demand that character make a comeback and it starts with the coach. For Dooley to joke about it only tells you where he is taking the Vols program. Another university president ignoring the obvious.
