Dooley jokes about Bray incident

UPDATE: Head coach Derek Dooley has responded to the vandalism incident involving quarterback Tyler Bray, saying he was disappointed in his quarterback, and then joking about it.

Dooley’s reaction, reported in the Tennessean:

“He’s made some progress in a lot of areas, but that’s just silly behavior. Any time we get a little negative publicity for our program, we take it seriously.”

“Obviously, his accuracy isn’t where it needs to be. He missed the trash can.”

University of Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray has been accused of throwing beer bottles and golf balls at cars from his apartment balcony.

Bray, 20, has offered to pay for the damages he inflicted to one of the cars, so he will not be charged in that incident, police told the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

“The victim called us and said she no longer wishes to prosecute,” Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told GoVolsxtra.com, part of the newspaper’s website. “[Bray] reached out to her and told her he would take care of the damages to her vehicle,” he said.

The victim, Bradi Hudson, said the windshield of her 2008 Ford was broken and that Bray and his roommate also damaged the car last Friday.

Hudson told police that after the Friday incident Kirstie Allen, another resident of the apartment complex, told her that Bray and roommate Michael Grandinetti were responsible for the damage.

On Monday, Allen, called police to report that her windshield had been smashed in apparent retaliation for implicating Bray and Grandinetti.

She told police that Bray and Grandinetti had thrown beer bottles off a balcony and onto vehicles in the parking lot, the Associated Press reported. The report quotes her as saying an office manager for the complex told her Bray and Grandinetti had been “served with an eviction notice just prior to her arriving home.”

As of Thursday morning, Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley had not commented, even though police said they notified him of the incident on Monday.

The Vols open the season Aug. 31 against North Carolina State in the Georgia Dome.

Hey atlvol55, so you threw beer bottles when you were their age…did you throw em at people and/or their cars? And as for young Mr Crowell, sure it was wrong for him to have a gun without a permit and who knows how or when the number was removed, but seems to me some UT ball players stuck a gun – albeit a starter’s pistol or something – in somebody’s face and demanded money…and as soon as the victims found out it was a Ut footballer he said he wouldn’t press charges. Something about The Vols needing all the help they could get. Tell me is that guy still on the team? Crowell ain’t – and while we’re at it your star WR Da’Rick kicked a cop in the head during a melee outside a bar and last I heard he was still suitin up. So let’s don’t be playing the ‘who’s worse’ card, OK?

Isn’t it amazing how charges are never filed in Knoxville?? Didn’t the kid from Calhoun beat the hell out of a student who then decided not to press charges because he didn’t want to hurt the team? I’m telling you guys…Knoxville is hell on earth.

FYI hardcore, I talked to a current UGA student who witnessed the Commings incident and he stated that at no time did Commings hit the girl. He said the only thing he saw Commings do is he grabbed her by the arm and pushed her away when she tried to hit him.
I guess if he would have pushed her to the pavement, and then while she was lying on the ground he could have kicked her in the head (Da’rick style), then that would’ve been OK.

Correct me if i’m wrong. Sanders Commings beats a girl in Athens and gets a 2 game suspension. Way to take a hardline Slick Richt. What a joke. Don’t try comparing beer bottle throwing with domestic violence against a female. How would DAWG fans feel about a 2 game suspension if that female was their daughter

You are wrong..He didnt “beat” the woman he pushed her..

Sure shows where we are as a society when people (like the poster from Warner Robbins) excuse this behavior as “just college kids being college kids – maybe he was drunk.” Uh, seriously? You excuse him for being DRUNK? I guess you want to excuse everything DRUNKS do? You’d all think differently had Bray done it to your car, or, if in his DRUNKENNESS (which was already stated as your excuse) he had hit a PERSON with the beer bottles. Those things can kill. Well, probably not when thrown by Bray but still.

I understand that this was just one of those stupid things that young people do and charges probably should not have been filed. But there should be some sort of consequence. With Dooley’s job on the line, will he sit his starting QB for the big opener against NC State?

My guess is no. What a joke…

My bet is that Dooley will be fired after this season anyway but he needs to try and get as many wins as he can. This will go away quickly..

No, PR, it’s not just “one of those stupid things that young people do.”
It was WRONG. Period. If everyone actually had to deal with the consequences of their actions, we’d live in a much better society.

And to clarify Rick James’ statement about Commings… He pushed her away because she was scratching and slapping at him. Funny how only certain details about certain events come out. Had that same incident happened in Knoxville, Commings likely wouldn’t have been suspended at all.

Exhibit A: Da’Rick and his bar fight incident that resulted in no suspension. The victim of that incident was hurt if I recall.

JMHO – but I see a program like UGA that would kick this guy’s butt and throw him out for this as a high caliber, more respectable program than UT not doing anything about it, regardless of the results on the field. If UGA lost games because they threw a kid out for something like this, and lost to teams that kept guys that pulled the same crap, I say UGA is still better. Integrity and honor count more.

I’m a transplanted Hokie alum from VA, but I have to say I do respect the way UGA and Richt run their program. Certain things are more important than wins. The UGA leadership gets that. Kudo’s to them!

Thuggery is an unbiased endeavor … not subject to race, gender or orientation. Where is the supervision for these kids. I went to a school where the entire student body was properly supervised.

Just in: Knoxville PD explained the “no charges” this way; Just minor dammage due to 9 of 10 bottles being overthrown and the one that hit car was “tipped” so Bray was actually innocent. Many other Ammish people in Knoxville?

Hackjobs, the victim wishing to press charges or not may be taken into consideration by police or prosecutors but it’s definitely not a necessary component. Vandalism is against the laws of the state and as such, technically the state is the injured party in a criminal case. The issue of personal recompense for the victim is at her sole discretion in civil cases. As such, she could personally decide to sue or not to sue this guy.

Also agree that if this was in Athens, he’d be looking at a suspension off the bat. Probably will have to run some extra laps at UT.

I perfected the technique of lobbing them at signs on the right side of the road with my left hand while driving. I had a pretty good hit rate, but that is something that I’m not real proud of now that I am older. The part of the brain (the amygdala) that regulates idiotic behavior like that isn’t fully developed until the late 20s.

He mite have been drunk when he hit the first girls car, but it doesn’t say he was drunk when he hit the second girls car, it was in retaliation for implicating him, and Grandinetti, sounds like he needs some anger management.

It’s not like he had a loaded, stolen gun in his possession and took it on Campus ? Just sayin.

Now, can you imagine the “future” day when recruiting involves a battery of psychological testing ? Now that will be an interesting day…….

@ Onlythugswhen black;

So, you are saying let the 5% of the recruits that are really out of line slide and maybe one day they might possibly, kinda, sorta, maybe begin to be among those acceptable among society rather than dole out a little discipline and start their education that they aren’t required to conform to some semblace of a decent and worthy citizen!!!!!!!!!!

That has already developed in our country where approx. half the people work and pays the bill for the other half. We cannot survive much longer under either system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To all those that are challenged in reading comprehension (especially those UT sycophants here), there were two separate incidents in which this idiot vandalized cars. One of the victims (Hudson) declined to file chargers, however, there is absolutely no indication the second one (Allen), which had her car damaged in retaliation for telling the first victim that she is not going to pursue this further. So before fools start saying no chargers were filed, wait to see what happens in the second case (though I’m not holding my breath since this is in Knoxville after all).

If Vol players can bust up a club(One that caters to all things UT) beat up a sizable portion of Knoxville and stomp a Law Enforcement Officer into a coma and nobody files charges there is damn little chance we will ever hear of any SERIOUS stuff committed by a Vol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
