Dooley jokes about Bray incident

UPDATE: Head coach Derek Dooley has responded to the vandalism incident involving quarterback Tyler Bray, saying he was disappointed in his quarterback, and then joking about it.

Dooley’s reaction, reported in the Tennessean:

“He’s made some progress in a lot of areas, but that’s just silly behavior. Any time we get a little negative publicity for our program, we take it seriously.”

“Obviously, his accuracy isn’t where it needs to be. He missed the trash can.”

University of Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray has been accused of throwing beer bottles and golf balls at cars from his apartment balcony.

Bray, 20, has offered to pay for the damages he inflicted to one of the cars, so he will not be charged in that incident, police told the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

“The victim called us and said she no longer wishes to prosecute,” Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told GoVolsxtra.com, part of the newspaper’s website. “[Bray] reached out to her and told her he would take care of the damages to her vehicle,” he said.

The victim, Bradi Hudson, said the windshield of her 2008 Ford was broken and that Bray and his roommate also damaged the car last Friday.

Hudson told police that after the Friday incident Kirstie Allen, another resident of the apartment complex, told her that Bray and roommate Michael Grandinetti were responsible for the damage.

On Monday, Allen, called police to report that her windshield had been smashed in apparent retaliation for implicating Bray and Grandinetti.

She told police that Bray and Grandinetti had thrown beer bottles off a balcony and onto vehicles in the parking lot, the Associated Press reported. The report quotes her as saying an office manager for the complex told her Bray and Grandinetti had been “served with an eviction notice just prior to her arriving home.”

As of Thursday morning, Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley had not commented, even though police said they notified him of the incident on Monday.

The Vols open the season Aug. 31 against North Carolina State in the Georgia Dome.

There was no penelty for Rogers for beating up an off duty cop. This is going nowhere at UT. They will be below .500 again, so who cares!

@ Whistle – uh, dude, that’s kind of the point! No charges were filed! What do you think the chances are that no charges would have been filed if the case had not involved the qb of Tennessee? Remember the case where the off-duty police officer was left lying unconcious and UT players were involved and no charges were filed regarding his beating? See the pattern now? You are right that young people do stupid stuff, but damaging property and beating people up goes beyond stupid stuff like underage drinking, driving the wrong way, driving nude, driving a moped without a license, shooting fireworks in a parking deck, etc.

Not only did he do it once, he did it in retaliation to another person for identifying him in the first incident? He deserves to be charged.

@you would….That was great. George Bush and Mark Richt get blamed for anything and everything bad happening these days. All of the haters from other schools are doing the same thing that UGA fans do, play down the incident, chalk it up to “being immature”, making stupid decisions, etc. This stuff happens at every single school, it’s that others cover it up better.

And if you think that that girl wasn’t intimidated by the rabid Vol fans, you have never been to Knoxville. In order of importance, it’s 1) UT football, 2) UT football, 3) God, 4) Family, 5) Everything else.

All of you UGA fans need to come off this “we discipline our players so much more” crap. First of all Crowell was kicked off the teams for a weapons charge. Not only a weapons charge but having a concealed weapons that had the serial numbers altered, a serious offense. Now what Bray did was stupid, and is inexcusable for someone who at this point knows he is always in the spotlight, but vandalism is a far cry from concealed altered gun charge.

“4 of the bottles were intercepted.” – Great line, Bammer. I’m not a Bammer fan, but that really made me chuckle.

Seriously, if this were Aaron Murray and UGA, it would be on the front page, he would have been arrested, and suspension would follow. This only proves the point I’ve been trying to make with others in conversation, UGA is held to a higher standard. In Knoxville, no charges. This is very consistent with the other types of situations where the “charges were dropped” as well. Remember the bar fight a year or two ago? Nothing came of all that either. At UGA, players would have been booted off the team. Amazing.

To all of you vollies trying to excuse this as “boys will be boys” behavior. How many of you sat around your apartments while you were in college and thought that chunking beer bottles and golf balls at other peoples cars would be a fun thing to do. While I will admit that he didn’t exactly commit murder, if it had been any of you vollies new 4WD coonhuntin’ truck that got damaged would you be this forgiving? He vandalized other peoples’ property and since he will get off lightly in Obknoxville, he will probably repeat his stupid behavior. In Atherns, we have had players pulled over and “taken downtown” because they had a tag light out but in Knoxville players get away with vandalism, beating up an off duty cop while he was on the ground, and attempted robbery of people in a compact car at a convenience store. In Knoxville, discipline trumps all!

Where’s the underage consumption charge? You can bet your bottom dollar that the Athens PD would have at least hauled him off to jail and called a press conference over that.

@ atlvol55

The situations Bray and Crowell got caught up in are two completely different stories. I don’t recall Crowell threatening anyone or using the weapon in any way, shape or form. On the other hand, Bray actually damaged/vandalized property and no files were charged. That to me, is a head scratcher. Trust me, I am glad Crowell is off the team at UGA. I don’t want kids who make those decisions (toting guns on around) on the team, but for UT not to do anything to Bray or D’Arick for beating up a police officer, that is just sad. No suspensions! Give me a break!!!

The first post from Carolina Dawg about life in prison absolutely
makes my day. Most of the Athens police do have a case of what
is known as badge-itis. Definitely not a case here if the owner of
the car doesn’t press charges, but here with the AJC, something
would definitely be made of it to try & stir the pot.

You “holier than thou” UGA rednecks are unbelievable. Your AD gets caught driving drunk wearing the red panties of a woman (not his wife) around his head with her in the car. Players eat weed laced brownies and say they did not know they had weed in them. Players get arrested for smacking around their girlfriends. Players get arrested for driving without a license. Players get arrested for having a concealed altered loaded weapon under their car seat…..yada yada yada. A Vol player ALLEGEDLY throws some beer bottles off a balcony and you want to give him the electric chair. The majority of you never attended UGA. Your only UGA connection is the camo UGA hat you bought on clearance at WallyWorld. Better avoid the rush and book your Greyhound tickets to Shreveport to watch the Dogs play in mid December. LMAO.

@WarnerRobinsDAWG (7:38) He DIDN’T realize his mistake!!!!! HE GOT CAUGHT. If he truly realized his mistake, he would NOT have made the conscious decision to vandalize and damage others’ property by throwing beer bottles at cars. Did he think they would bounce off? He made a bad decision, and now must pay the consequences. Aren’t we responsible for our own actions? Do those actions have consequences?

Also this may not be over for Bray. Notice it said the first victim agreed not the press charges because Bray agreeded to cover all damages. Later the young lady that reported them out to the first victim had her car damaged in retaliation and it says its “still under investigation”. Something tells me that if they prove it was them again that this young lady might not be dropping charges this time. We will wait and see.

Why is alcohol so accepted now by college coaches? In the old days you didn’t go to bars and if you were caught with alcohol you were disciplined.

There are v few less egregious misdemeanors than vandalizing cars. I personally think that anyone who has such callous disregard for others should spend at least 30 days in jail. Same goes for dangerously aggressive drivers who threaten other peoples’ lives.

Correct me if i’m wrong. Sanders Commings beats a girl in Athens and gets a 2 game suspension. Way to take a hardline Slick Richt. What a joke. Don’t try comparing beer bottle throwing with domestic violence against a female. How would DAWG fans feel about a 2 game suspension if that female was their daughter.

I’m not an UGA alumnus, but I’ve lived in Athens since 1987. I truly believe the continuing problems with the Dawgs aren’t due to Richt recruiting “thugs”–same “thugs”, then, everyone else is recruiting!”–but the city of Athens itself. Don’t get me wrong; I love living in Athens! But the campus and the city itself are surrounded by some very tough neighborhoods. Anything a person could want is literally within walking distance from campus. Downtown Athens on almost any night of the week is like attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans! Fake ID’s are available almost every where.

Boo hoo pups. How the hell do you wine after a Tn incident? For the record, Richt didn’t start playing hardball unitl he was forced. Years went by where a kid would get out of line and Richt would do nothing. Only after years where it appeared that Richt was soft on discipline that he made a immediate change. One of these days you pups will figure out Richt is afraid of some of them.
That center you had was one he was afraid of.
