Michael Vick says he might be ready to be a dog owner again.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, who was prohibited from owning a dog after his 2007 conviction for running a dogfighting ring, told CNN Tuesday he wants his children to be able to enjoy a pet dog.

The ban, which began when Vick was released from prison in 2009, expires this month.

“[The children] not being able to have a dog because of my acts, I just don’t think that’s fair,” he said.

The president of the Humane Society of the United States told the AJC in a 2010 interview that Vick should be allowed to own a dog some day.

“I have been around him a lot, and feel confident that he would do a good job as a pet owner,” Wayne Pacelle said.

Vick said if he does get a dog, he’ll let the kids pick the breed. But he did rule out one dog.

“It certainly wouldn’t be a pit bull,” he said.

What’s your opinion? Is Vick a changed man or should he swear off dog ownership forever?

He should never be allowed to even be around his children………if you can’t treat a dog properly how do you expect him to raise a child.

I wish Michael Vick would just go away and live a better life than he did before – away from the cameras. Instead, he chose to emBARK on a THREE YEAR IMAGE REHABILITATION TOUR motivated by a desire for money and adulation. It has worked, thanks to big cash payoffs from the Eagles and Vicks wealthy supporters to the morally bankrupt Humane Society of the United States.

I’d almost tell him it’s OK to get a dog,* on condition that he STFU, stop promoting a book he didn’t write (TWO ghostwriters did), and end his three year relationship with the golddigger-gigolo who runs the Humane Society of the United States.

*Provided it’s a stuffed dog or a ghost dog.

When all the dogs Vick killed come back to life and he tells them how sorry he is for what he did to them…then and only then should he be allowed anywhere near another dog. It is to bad his children will be punished by his actions but he would not be able to teach them what they need to know to be loving partners for a dog.

For all of those that are bashing the dog breed, especially Beau, your ignorance needs to be bred out of existence. People are the ones who make the dog so aggressive that they will attack people. If you actually do your homework before you open your fat ass mouths you will learn that the American Pit Bull Terrier is not people aggressive and they never were.

Beau, you arre an idiot! Are you endorsing TORTURING animals. It is a proven fact that animal torturers also hurt human beings. This monster should not be raising children at all.T hey should be taken away from him and the stupid cows that lay down with him! And how much mone did he pay Pacelle to endorse him getting a pet!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! Sorry – but the handy excuse that “The kids need one” just doesn’t wash with me. That man should be banned for the rest of his life. Celebertys should be treated like us average joes in the justice system and get the same punishments. Get another type of live pet and get the Cyber Dog type computer program for the kids. Or a robot dog. I do not believe him for one second that he has “reformed”.

Why not a pit bull. would he be tempted to beat it, drownd it, kill it? He has made his bed now let him suffer the penalty. I don’t believe he will ever change. His kids may have the same sick genes he has, no compasion no heart only selfishness. What really makes me sick is that these big corporations make him a spokesman for their products and make him rich off his bad behavior. NO DOGS for VICK….

Paid his dues? Only legally did he pay his dues. Did he grow a consience? Hell no. Time and time again he had the choice to stop torturing these animals and he chose not to because he enjoyed it. He should never have the PRIVILEGE of owning any animal. He’s the lowest of lows. And yes Grandma, I care about the kids too.

Beau… if i had my way, ppl that kill animals for their own amusement, dog or no; should spend the rest of their life in jail. no, im not a member of peta. but animals are alive, just like humans. and not only did he kill dogs, he tortured them as he was killing them. im sorry but i dont care who you are that should seem incredibly wrong. i believe ppl take animals for granted. and judging from some of these comments there are even more than i imagined. if Vick comes anywhere near the shelter i volunteer at i will bar the door.

First of all, his kids should never be allowed to “pick the breed”. Any dog lover with any common sense knows you choose a breed/personality that fits in with your lifestyle. By him saying that he’ll let his kids choose, tells me he’s given no thought to this. Research! Research! Research! Also, I don’t care if your childhood involved fighting and abusing dogs, anyone with a heart, a soul, and a conscience would know that is wrong!!! To get a companion dog just because your kids want one is never ever a good reason to get one because the parent ends up training & caring for it in the long run.

He should never ever be able to own or foster a dog again! He may have paid his legal dues in prison but will never be able to pay for the horrible suffering of so many innocent and defenseless dogs he caused so heartlessly! How can he owning a dog be even considered?? Who is that insane?

As soon as Mr. Vick has endured the same treatment that his dogs had to endure then, and only then, could he have a dog. Oh, wait a minute, he’d be dead. Dead people don’t own dogs, and people who kill dogs can’t own them either.

Animals react towards each other based on instincts, there is no moral judgement in their decision based on tenets of civilized society – it is just survival, and if the reaction is violent it is excusable because of the nature of animals. But when a human being reacts the same way towards an animal there is no excuse, and the only thing we can say is that the human being is not only an animal but one that is more dangerous and more unpredictable than animals themselves.

To be human and to have the power of reason and to know the basic requirements of living in a civilization but to still behave like an animal is unforgivable, and is beyond the powers of our judicial society to understand let alone govern by legislation.

Vick is typical of so many felons today, completely misunderstood by those who are expected to provide our security and protect us from such deviates. The powers that be do not understand the criminal mind in cases like his and believe that a few years of incarceration solve the problem and allow a “new” and repentant man to return to society. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way – so before you allow Vick to own any kind of animal you had better think twice – just because he says he is “good” doesn’t make it so.

The way someone chooses to treat the helpless says everything important about them. Michael Vick should never be allowed to own any animal because he has proven himself incapable of empathy. For those whose comments are in the “just a dog” category, you seem to be suffering from the same lack. The feelings of animals matter and if you can’t grasp that simple concept you are certainly not intelligent enough to consider yourselves above them.

Once a thug always a thug. The fact that the NFL took him back and now the humane society endorses him, and I don’t care what other club, society, or professional group portray him as a responsible member of society; he is still and always will be a thug.

Michael Vick should have lost his right to own any animals the first day he tortured an animal. We don’t let serial child molesters care for our children why let a convicted animal abuser/killer care for any animal again?

This man is a monster. After the things he did, the cruelty these animals suffered, he does not have the mind, heart or soul to be a pet owner. It takes a special person in my eyes, in most people’s eyes to have a pet. Why do child molesters go to prison for so long. And would we feel good about them raising children…the answer is NO, enough said. Let this go already, he sucks….

Really? Michael Vick. A dog owner. A man who went to prison for animal abuse. Why not? We are letting all the other felons do what they want. Bankers steal our economy and they get to keep their jobs. The President is a Kenyan and gets to keep his job. The whole system is bought and sold so there is no moral driving force in our society. So sure – just let everyone do anything they want everywhere and speed along right off the cliff into chaos and anarchy. Oh wait – never mind we are headed for a military state. The fact that anyone would even consider selling that man a dog is more telling about our society than any word of outrage.

If his children do not know what he did, they should be told. He should never be able to own a dog and that goes for all that have fought dogs or abused animals in any way.
No animal is safe in his reach.

No way! Here we are again, the HSUS spending donations on “celebrities” to speak for them, when they give less than a penny to dog shelters. Why do they even continue to promote helping dogs and cats when they DONT. (they even claim in documents that they dont support shelters, but they sure promote it in their commercials). They are using Vick “for dogs”. You will not get a dime from me. Everyone can be smarter than the HSUS and give to your local shelter who are suffering every day to get animals a home and not euthanize them. Support them instead. I am sorry, but HSUS does not get my vote when it comes to a convicted dog murderer. I dont agree that he should have a dog.

If he was a convicted sex offender, he would have to register and not be allowed in to live near schools etc. If he was a convicted pedophile, he would not be allowed near children. He has been convicted of felony animal abuse so should have to register as animal abusers ( I wish there was this registry) and no be allowed near animals every again. It should be that simple but this country does not consider dogs a part of the family as much as it is a commodity to make money off of.

At the very, VERY least, the breed should be restricted; however, it really makes me angry that the Humane Society would give him an endorsement….verrryyy angry. My boyfriend and I wanted to adopt a dog after one of ours died [from old age] but we were turned down by a pet rescue because we work longer than 4 hours a day…yes, that’s right, 4 hours. We even had family nearby that was willing to come over, take it out and feed it during the day. We have never been cruel to animals and have taken good care of the dogs we have owned, yet we had to purchase a dog from someone instead because we have jobs. Yet this @$$ gets an endorsement?!? I think he was let off too easy to begin with….perhaps put him in the ring with his pit bulls and let them get a piece….that would have been more fair, in my opinion. I have no tolerance for cruelty to animals, children or the elderly….there is no acceptable reason for it.

There is no way that the dog killer Michael Vick should ever be able to have a dog again. I am a huge supporter of the Humane Society of the United States, but I think Wayne Pacelle is completely wrong when he says that Michael Vick would be a good dog owner. I do not think for one minute that Vick felt or feels any remorse for what he did. You either think it’s okay to abuse, maim, torture, and kill animals, or you don’t. If he had not been caught he would still be killing these poor dogs. He is a heartless person, plain and simple. Remember, he lied about it up until the moment he pleaded guilty, and the only did that to get a lighter sentence.

NO DOGS OR ANIMALS OF ANY KIND FOR MICHAEL VICK!!!
