Floyd Mayweather has knocked Tiger Woods off his throne. has released its annual “Fortunate 50″ list, and for the first time ever, Woods is not on top. The title of highest-paid U.S. athlete goes to Mayweather, who earned $85 million last year with two big pay-per-view fights — and no endorsements.

Mayweather earned a reported $45 million for his victory over Miguel Cotto in May and $40 million for his win over Victor Ortiz last September. He is currently in jail, serving a three-month sentence for domestic violence.

Woods, at $56.4 million, fell to No. 3 behind rival Phil Mickelson, who earned $60.7 million. It was the first time since began compiling the list in 2004 that Woods wasn’t on top.

The rest of the top 10:

4. Kobe Bryant, $48.2 million.

5. LeBron James, $45.8 million.

6. Alex Rodriguez, $33.5 million.

7. Peyton Manning, $31 million.

8. Dale Earnhardt Jr., $28.1 million.

9. Derek Jeter, $27.7 million.

10. Larry Fitzgerald, $26.7 million.

The earnings consisted of salary, winnings, bonuses, endorsements and appearance fees, said.

Considering the lack of Formula 1 drivers maybe you should clarify this is for American athletes since the source made that pretty clear anyway…

I’ve always been curious that the most popular sport in America (football) doesn’t have a player that has ever held the top spot before let alone a top three spot. Peyton has come close a few years but no NFL player has cracked the top three. Is it because of the helmets and that the casual fan may not have face recognition? Just wondering…

Dale Jr??? He has won what one time in the last 5 years. Riding daddy’s coattails to 27 mil annually. Not bad

He’s won a race in the last 4 years, yet he out earns the other NASCAR drivers? Just how dumb is NASCAR?

I like Jr. also, but be honest if John Doe won 1 race per yr for the last 5, would they have a team?

Wow, another black eye for UGA. I hope you’re just a fan and not a graduate from UGA. II’m not sure which needs more work, your grammar or your spelling. Wow.

Dale Jr. at 8th??????? Ahead of the 5x champ Jimmie Johnson????? yeah, that sounds fair (not). I can’t stand either one of them, but just saying – 5 time CHAMP vs. no time champ. Unbelievable. I hope he thanks his daddy every single night for being the true champion he was. He wouldn’t be making that kind of money if daddy was still around.

No, it’s because NFL players, in general, are obnoxious criminals with whom Corporate America would rather not have their products associated. That’s why most of them are broke by 30.

just sayin

Take a look at those posts from “DAWG FAN FROM DOUGLISVILLE” – great example of the average UGA fan. Never even sniffed the campus, much less middle school graduation.

“CRASHCAR” is crap, by the way.

@Aghast – haha, nice job of calling Dawg fan out. However, you can’t really call it Crashcar this year, unfortunately. I’m a nascar fan but this year has been too clean and wreckfree.

Not sure where Tiger’s money is coming from since most endorsers not named Nike dropped him.

@ Disconnected… It only takes an endorser named “Nike” to put you in the top 3!
