Atlanta Braves Spring Preview: Which MLB opponents look toughest in 2010?

mets_bay Pitchers and catchers will be reporting before we know it and with March comes the start of Spring Training. Baseball’s back, basically, and with so many teams making big offseason moves it’s like it never really left us.

MAKE THE CALL:
Which MLB teams – NL or AL – among the Braves’ 2010 opponents retooled themselves best for the upcoming season and who’s already looking like a cellar dweller? Also, are you headed to Spring Training? Which teams are you most eager to see and why?

Crapper Jones will stay hurt as usual.
D. Lowe’s arm is good for 2 months , max.
ONLY good news this year is it is his last.

The Nats are the most improved team in the NL east in my opinion, the Phils are about even (Lee = Halladay) which is still scary, the Marlins took a small step back, the Mets took a gigant step back (Bay is gonna struggle at the new Mets stadium, both offensively and defensively) and they still have no starting pitching.
1. Phillies 91-71
2. Braves 89-73
3. Marlins 84-78
4. Nationals 76-86
5. Mets 74-88
Jurrjens 17-12
Hudson 12-5
Hanson 15-10
Lowe 12-9
Kawakami 10-14
Wagner/Saito 42 saves
Fearless prediction: We will trade Melky Cabrera or Jordan Schafer with one of our top 3 young pitching prospects (Vizcaino/Teheran/Delgado) to the Padres for A-Gon.

Braves win 92 games this year and either miss the division crown by one game and go wildcard or win outright. Mark my words. This is an improved offense. If we would have had Prado at second, LaRouche at first & McClouth in center all year we win the div in 2009. We owned the Phillies last year. We now have 2 out of that 3 and I think Glaus will bop us 25-30 dingers this year. Wanger will be a serious stopper not the heart attack waiting to happen like Gonzo & Sori. I like this team.

think about it..The braves did not improve over the offseason while the phillies did. The braves finish 3rd in the east, and the philllies go back to the WS again….note to braves management..You have get top notch players to win, not retread players….

All five of the Braves starting pitchers have the ability to be at least 15-game winners…

I am not sold on the Phillies. If they kept Lee I would feel bad for Coach Cox. They didn’t. They mortgaged their future to sign a pitcher that is in the later years of his career. (Though I would love to see Hallady in a Braves uni.) The Braves as of right now have offered Damon a contract. If this get’s signed and than we don’t have anymore moves, we will have an outfield that has 4 left handed hitters and right handed hitter and a switch hitter. McClouth, Damon, Hinske, Heyward all lefties. Diaz is a right handed hitter. Cabrera is a switch-hitter. The infield has 3 right handers and 1 switch hitter. Out catcher is a lefty. Hinske can spell Glaus at first or Chipper at third. I personally think that even though we have a predominately left handed hitting outfield, the balance in the infield helps to even things out. This is a good looking team we have now. Glaus is not McGriff. But do you remember when Galarraga came over to play first from Colorado and everyone said he was benefiting from hitting in the thin air and he wouldn’t be any good here? He only hit 44 home runs and drove in 121. Not that Glaus can duplicate the feat, but to have him hit 30 home runs is not out of the realm of possibilities. Love or hate the moves, please pull for the Braves as hard as you can. One more chance to give Bobby Cox that brass ring. Lets give Bobby a going away present he can take to his 2015 HoF induction.

Two words…. Mark Cuban. If I was Liberty Media I would look to sell the Braves for about 5-10% less than what they are worth. LM obviously doesn’t want to add anymore payroll so bring in the guy who will spend like the Yankees. The Braves are a very attractive franchise. The fan base is one of the top ten in baseball, the minors are stacked with talent, and the pitching staff is loaded. The only thing they need now is two big bats and you could win a couple of World Series. I think Mark Cuban could really do wonders for this organization.
