Pete Carroll to Seahawks?
RENTON, Wash.(AP) — The Seattle Seahawks fired Jim Mora after just one season, leaving the former NFC West champs without a coach, general manager and president less than four years after they appeared in the Super Bowl.
Speculation on Mora’s replacement immediately centered on Southern California coach Pete Carroll.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Seahawks chief executive officer Tod Leiweke flew to California this week to interview Carroll for the job. ESPN.com, citing unidentified league sources, said an announcement of Carroll joining the Seahawks could come early next week.
“Pete’s name comes out at this time every year. In the past, he hasn’t commented on such reports,” USC spokesman Tim Tessalone said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “He was not expected in (Friday). … At this point, we have nothing to report.”
A Seahawks spokesman inside the team’s headquarters Friday refused to comment on Carroll and Carroll did not return a phone call left for him by The AP.

Nick Saban advises Kirby Smart
From UGA beat writer Tim Tucker’s blog:
“I’m always happy and interested for our coaches to be able to advance professionally, especially if it is a professional advancement in terms of a guy being a coordinator who can go be a head coach in a situation where he has a chance to be successful.
“I’m not pleased when guys make lateral moves because it’s a little bit human nature to think, like my dad used to say, the grass is always greener on top of the septic tank. You always think it’s better someplace else. You kind of let your ego get involved, and you make moves that you shouldn’t make and really aren’t in your best interests for a career standpoint. So I’m not happy when guys do that. But anybody on our staff who can move up, we would like to help them do that.”
– Nick Saban in Friday press conference.
Al Groh next DC at Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech announced on Friday that defensive coordinato Dave Wommack will not return for the 2010 season. Coach Paul Johnson says he and Wommack “both agreed” a change was needed after Georgia Tech ranked 54th in the nation in total defense and 56th in scoring defense.
The AJC’s Jeff Schultz brought up former Virginia head coach Al Groh as a possible candidate.

Saban leaves when he wins the NC. Now if USC ( the real USC not Carolina ) needs a name coach and that does not include Blame Kiffen, who has no name recognition and is not a real coach, might go after Nick Saban.
You heard it here first. ONLY A USC ( the real USC ) could $$$$ afford Nick now, That is unless Saudia Arabia ia planning on fielding an NCAA team. HAHAHAHAHA
Blame will be bolting from UT for another major school or he will leave per scandal, as that is BUILDING FAST.
go Dogs.

Al Groh would get something like $4 million a year to sit at home next year. Why would he take a demotion and lose all that money?

You guys are right, it’s now clear how to beat Tech’s offense. All you need is bigger, faster players, a good DC and a month to prepare. ROFLMAO.

I can’t for the life of me understand why Smart would want to leave the NC’s to coach at UGA. He is safe in the arms of Bamma. He knows that if he comes to Ga., and it goes sideways, they will banish him. Then there is no going home after that. What a bone head play that would be. Remember that show GET SMART? What a dummy he was, and maybe this guy is too. No QB, No DC, and the whole ncaa looks at us and writes us off for next year. oh well. ..at least I got me a cool new Bamma Cap and Jacket. How many of you guys got the same. looks like it will be a while before the Dawg Nation regroups. GO DAW…..I mean ROLL TIDE !!!

gcs- Groh gets to keep the money he’s getting from UVa. They just won’t have to pay him as much. If he’s owed 4 million he will get what Gt would pay him (maybe @300K or so) subtracted from what Uva owes him. Either way- he’d make 4 million. Also- 80 percent of the posts on here are asinine. I would call it little brother syndrome but Alabama’s not in your state or division! Wow- show some love people- wouldn’t you rather it be Alabama #1 than Uf or Ut?

The only reason Smart would stay at Bama is if he has doubts to his abilities to be a DC on his own or aa a head coach. If he is as good as billed then he should come to UGA as DC for a few years. When Richt retires he steps in as HC if he has done his job well. It would be his defense and his program. No reason he couldn’t be successful at UGA. Here just as well as anywhere else.
