Let’s see: Clemson (ACC) vs South Carolina (SEC) – SEC wins; GaTech (ACC) vs Georgia (SEC) – SEC wins; GaTech (ACC) vs Iowa (Big 10) – Big 10 wins.

Is there a trend here? Let the record speak for itself. Oh, sorry; Clemson (ACC) vs GaTech (ACC) – I guess the ACC would have to win this game.

Congratulations to Iowa. They deserved to win. And as usual, GaTech is over-rated, over-hyped and under-whelming.

Good God – brain-numbing UGA fan drivel again. Yup, we lost – we played badly on both sides of the ball and paid for it. Far from “sucks”, however and we won’t obsess over it all year – it’s a football game, people. Grow up.

St Simons: You can head to Iowa, we’ll get your box and punch holes in it for your trip. Be a fan all the time or bail.

#1DawginMississippi: At least we can spell and have more words in our vocabulary than “sucks.” We lost tonight but we’ll you in the basketball post-season. Oh wait – you’ll be watching us on TV.

I’d rather lose at a major bowl game than spend it in the “paradise” of scenic Shreveport, LA. Shoot, there are 34 bowl games – even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Tech played about like I thought they would. That one dimensional offense will work in the ACC and lower teams from other conferences, but not with the big boys. I commend Paul Johnson for running a system that will get him an ACC title.

Clemson(ACC) beats Kentucky(SEC) who beat UGA(SEC). VT(ACC) destroys UT(SEC), who destroyed UGA(SEC)…. we could play that game all night.
As for tonight’s game, the loss is mostly on Paul Johnson. In the first half, Tech time and time again ran the TO at Clayborn and he was stuffing the dive, THEN getting to the QB. Tech made no adjustment until half and CPJ seemed hell bent on making it work on the best player on Iowa’s defense. After the half Tech had some success running away from #94. Why is took so long to figure it out is beyond me.
All in all a very good, exciting year, but still some major disappointments. I’m a Tech fan, but a realist. Tech is going to have to get bigger and stronger on both the OL and DL. Tech is getting whipped badly at times up front. Bobo got wise to this back in November. The option is a great equalizer (see Navy), but it can’t be relied on exclusively. Nesbitt is a tough kid and GT wouldn’t be in a BCS bowl without him, but the passing game, for the most part is miserable. Thomas is a good receiever, but you can’t rely on one guy for an entire phase of an offense and getting it to him is always an adventure. Then at the worst possible time, he drops it.
As for next year, Morgan is gone, Dwyer probably, and maybe Thomas. There’s still a lot of good talent left and it should be another exciting year. Defense is going to have to step it up. I hate to say it, but if no improvement is made on defense next year, the Jackets need to start looking for a new DC. Some would say that is in order now, but I don’t see it happening. Defense did play some decent ball tonight after settling down.
Looking forward to next year and as always…THWG !!

Hey idiots. If you guys always dog the acc, then why do you get so excited about 30-24. Also if you want to talk about how ga and south carolina should have been in the acc title game then lets talk. If I recall, South Carolina just got beat by UCON (really?) and clemson beat kentucky which beat you guys this season. See how this works. Any team can beat another if they play better on that given day. Just because south carolina and uga beat clemson and gt doesnt mean you should crown yourselves acc champs. Just let the conference talk stop please.

I think its prety stupid for ugag fans to think that you would beat IOWA, you can’t even beat KENTUCKY!!! you go to the LA. toilet bowl and play a 6-6 team that should not even be in a bowl game and you think that your team shuld be ranked #1, oh wait yall was ranked #1 preseason 2 years ago ang #13 this year preseason, Tech under CPJ is 20-7, 1-1 versus UGAG with recruiting classes ranked in the 30-40 range, UGAG is 18-8 the past 2 years with top 5 recruiting classes every year, is it that UGAG’s players are not as good as their ranking or is it that your coaching staff sucks?

Jon

Are you kidding me? I never said anything about that stat. I am talking about your whole season. You may get lucky at this one game but what happens to your team the rest of the season. Good ball game. As a dawg fan I was pulling for Iowa. Overall GT had a better year than UGA. But the truth remains, UGA has dominated GT in football for the last decade. The SEC will continue to dominate the ACC, Yes, the ACC will win some, but the SEC will win more.

Now, basketball, that is a different story. ACC wins the most.

Let’s compare….UGA has whipped our Tech butts in football 8 out of the last 9! The worst UGA football team in a decade whipped our best Tech team in 20 years on our own *historic Grant Field in our little Bobby Dodd Stadium in front of our home fans 30-24 and outplayed us on both sides of the ball. Then UGA beat our super talented basketball team using a bunch of walk-ons. Then of course UGA won there bowl game as usual and we lost ours.

Conclusion: TECH SUX!!!! We are a bunch of pathetic losers that can’t win the big one! Tech chokes!!!! No doubt that 1 out of 9 is a fluke!

We only won the ACC Championship because the ACC was way down from usual and we were lucky! We certainly aren’t good. Iowa just spanked our little fannies and made us cry!

He did no coaching during the game. The team is selfish, one dimensional,(dribble dribble dribble…), no one cuts/moves, and it seems they run no plays. Mark Price is available. get him NOW!

It is clear, anytime the GT option goes against a “real” program, if fails.

Broken play street football offense can do nothing against a traditional wall of beef.

It is also clear that Josh Nesbitt simply can not throw the ball. While there were a couple of instances where his receivers failed him, each of those balls were still wobbly ducks.

This game was much more one sided than the score would leave you to beleive. Iowa completely dominated Tech on both sides of the ball – a complete, total bitch slap. Iowa kick sand in the Nerds face, stole their girlfriend, and then showed her what a real man is.

Springboard to the BCS Championship next year? Are you kidding me? Their most prominent players are leaving for the NFL, and Nesbitt is a suspect QB at best. Georgia Tech will start the season ranked in the top 25 next year, and a realistic goal for the team will be to actually still be ranked inthe top 25 by the end of the season.

Oh, and for the most prominent bowl game in years, Geoirgia Tech couldn’t even sell out its ticket allocation. The Orange Bowl has a capacity of 74,476, but the game drew only 66,131 – only 88% of capacity for one ot the top four bowl games in the country – are you kidding me?

I guess Georgia really did take the Nerds’ lunch money, and they couldn’t afford to make their way to South Florida, or they knew what they were in for …..

ACC Reality Check

January 6th, 2010
8:56 am

I said it on an earlier blog last night and will say it again today; the ACC is a subpar football conference, period. That we can win 11 games and the conference title and then look as pityful as we did last night is proof that we’re not close to being ready to run with the Big Boys in college football. Our first play from scrimmage appeared it would go all the way, but for a flag against “False Start Gilbert”. I’m willing to bet that he has more false starts than any other player in division one football. Our kicking game can’t get the ball beyond the 20 yard line on any kick off, our punter gets one beyond 40 yards every now and then and let’s not even talk about our field goal “misser”. Believe me, I’ve been a Yellow Jacket since 1950 and have bled my share of white and gold over the years, but every time I feel like we’re back on the rise, I get the infamous “chop block” thrown at me. GT is slap dab in the middle of the SEC and feels like winning a subpar conference championship puts us in SEC caliber of football prowress. Not so fast my friend. Once an opponent has more than 7 days to prepare for our fabled TRIPPPLE THREAT OFFENSE, we become very one dimensional and it appears that our players are absolutely lost on a big green field. I saw players on both sides of the ball last night just standing around bumping into others like a steel ball in a pin ball machine. For as smart as our guys are supposed to be, many of them were simply in a fog against Iowa. I love GT for what it’s done for me, have supported them through the years and will continue to do so, but the reality is, we just aren’t a very good football team outside of the ACC and I don’t see it getting any better. We can trippple option this conference to it’s knees, but will not be able to step up to the plate with true football conferences. REALITY is what it’s called on this 6th day of January, 2010.

Tech Alumni

January 6th, 2010
8:59 am

Tech got outcoached in the first half. Failed to make adjustments in a timely manner. Second half was a number of mental mistakes by the players. First drive gained 59 yards – missed field goal (but had 25 yards in penalties on that drive). Near end of the game sums it up. First we field a punt on the 3 yard line instead of letting it go into the end zone. Nesbitt then throws into double coverage on first down for an interception. Defense gets a roughing the passer penalty on next possession. Dwyer nearly get a safety takes an eleven yard loss on first down. Johnson needs to work on teaching players how to understand the situation they are in. More to playing football that just getting after it.

Kudos to ACC Reality Check and Tech Alumni for seeing Georgia Tech football for what it really is … a gimmick offense in a very weak conference. Thats not intended to be a slam, rather just another dose of reality. For years now, the best ACC team is a mid to lower level SEC team at best. I have been a fan of Paul Johnson for years. I liked him at Georgia Southern and I liked him at Navy. His silly high school offense works at the Division II level and at and weak, slow Division I conferences like the ACC. But there is a reason no big time Division I school runs that garbage.
Paul Johnson came to Tech and had some success in the ACC and the next thing you know, everybody thinks he is Bear Bryant. And even he starts believing his own hype. Last year, the fluke win over Georgia was such a big deal, Johnson bought rings for his players to commerate this outstanding triumph. This year, when his heavily favored team gets destroyed by the 4th worst team in the SEC, well, it was “just a game, and we have more important things to worry about like winning the ACC”. Georgia Tech has been, and will always be the University of Georgia’s “bitch”. Once every 8 or 10 years, Tech is going to slip up and beat UGA in some sport. But year in and year out, Tech is our bitch. Just like Chan Gailey, I hope Tech keeps Paul Johnson forever. As long as he is there, Tech football will be somewhat better than AAAA high school, and about middle of the pack Division II.
So now the smack talk is over at Tech. Its back to their traditional motto ” Its just a game, grow up Georgia fans”. HAHAHAHAHA

Hey GT fans, your team was scared…and they’re actually admitting it!!! Too funny. Don’t worry though, you still have those big wins over Jacksonville State, Vandy, and Duke to reminisce about. And don’t take that Miami loss too bad either…after all, another Big Ten team throttled them too. Anyway, as a Black and Gold bleeding Hawkeye fan, I want to thank you for bringing your vaunted offense to the Orange Bowl…it was everything we expected!

“You watch them on film and kind of get a feel for them, but it’s nothing like standing next to them,” linebacker Steven Sylvester said.

“They were good and they had some good players,” Dwyer said. “But I really think that we just shot ourselves in the foot, man. We were just nervous.”

GT Fan In MG

January 6th, 2010
11:18 am

As A Tech fan I was embarrassed at the showing last night in the Orange Bowl. Time after time CPJ and Josh ran the keeper and did not get Dwyer or Allen outside to move the ball. And Bey-Bey never touched the ball and he only had 2 opportunities and both passes were thrown poorly. The defense was on the field getting pushed around to much and Iowa had all night in the pocket. When they did blitz or send extras on the rush Stanzi made mistakes and incompletions were the result. The play by Josh when he threw the INT in the 4th was a stupid and bad pass. Then Dwyer losing 11 yds and almost getting a safety instead of no gain or a couple and the game is over. Consistantly punting….Missing FG’s…..Not getting the ball in the hands of your best players(Bey-Bey, Dwyer and Allen) is still a loss.

Now UGA fans….here is a trivia question for you….Who was the National Champion last year? I say Florida…but according to your logic that you are ACC Champs then the trophy for the NC should be transfer to Oxford, Ms…..Don’t you think? So either have the SEC make UF send the NC to Ole Miss or STFU!!!!! You are not ACC Champs! Please quit being ignorant or better yet STUPID!!!!!

UGA has won 8 out of 9 in football and beat us in Basketball. So what it is a game…..Most UGA fans don’t know who the players on the team are and the ones that are real diehard fans know reality also. UGA consistantly gets 5-star recruits on the football field but no NC since 1980? GT gets on avg 3-4 star recruits and is consistantly playing in a bowl game. It is not a level playing field as far as talent goes so thus the lopsided win category. If you take the NY Yankees and play against the KC Royals who will win more times? The talent is greater and a lot of the best HS talent goes to UGA because they grew up UGA fans….not because of the SEC! Ga is ripe for CFB players and every team/school comes here to recruit and those recruits chose UGA more times than not. And most GT grads do not live in this state nor attend home football games and the fan base for people who did not attend UGA or GT is swung toward UGA’s side. So whats your point on the fans???? I know 20 UGA fans for every GT fan! And most of the people here probably can say the same. So as far as talent UGA wins…..Asd far as fans UGA wins…..As far as people who graduate from either college who stay and live in this state UGA wins….as far as won-loss record over the last 20 years UGA wins…..as far as the most people with common sense UGA loses…..Please get over yourselves people it is a game and I am as passionate as they come but please don’t say the Dawgs are ACC champs…that is Stupid, Ignorant and makes no sense.

Great year for the Jackets and I hope that next year is just as exciting and good.

Tech’s offense is insanity – trying the same spread option over and over again and expecting different results. The Iowa loss was so predictable after the first five minutes – Tech recovers a fumble and then punts 3 plays later – oops the spread option doesn’t work and when can’t pass or know any other formation. In a Tech game know if they are going to win or lose after their 1st possession – just see if the spread option works or not. Next year will be more of the same pathetic insane predictability.

GTFan in MG – sticks and stones. Don’t worry about those buffoons from UGA, they will say anything no matter how nonsensical.
I am however embarrassed by our last 2 bowl showing though. They have proven that given a month to prepared, a good team can shut down our one-dimensional offense. I understand the commitment to the running game but Tech has to at least develop a good enough passing game to keep the opposition from loading 9-10 guys in the box. Nesbitt was a pocket passer in high school so I know he can throw so spent some time next season improving his passing game. He has shown he can run the ball, develop his passing game. And yes, we still need a new and good DC. Demote Wommack to DC assistant.

The only thing softer than our defense was the play and mid section of jonathon dwyer. hey buddy, step away from the buffet line and learn how to block defensive ends.

After reading all of the quotes from the Georgia Tech players following the game, they just can’t admit that they were whipped in every aspect of the game. Come on guys! You got shut down by a physically and mentally superior team. It wasn’t that you ‘missed opportunities’, or ‘coulda, shoulda won’. Iowa was simply better than you were, and you are too arrogant to admit it. Funny thing is, you have precious little to be arrogant about!

I strongly believe we should be 14-0 right now.I know we won our conference and we have a good year.I saw the VT game and we should have played that good all year.We let a crapy Ga team beat us because we had a bad attitude and let them run all over us and we let Miami beat us.Iowa is by far the best team we have played this year.WE had our chances at the end and blew it.We have to get better and change some ways we call things if we want to get to the next level!!

I agree and diagree with the Iowa fan.Iowa beat us bad in te first half. The second half we started to come alive and we had a chance to go in front, but we turn the ball over and that was it.At the time it was only a 3 point game.I hope CPJ learns from this game.We need a bigger OL and DL.Point of attack is so critical on both sides of the ball!!!

Great season Jackets. We got blown away, out played, and out coached last night. Iowa beat us really hard.

Dog fans can howl all they want, even though we all love football win or lose…life goes on and does not eternally rest on yesterday.

CPJ’s got his work cut out for him, so does CMR, and so do those that may want to go play in the NFL. Both Ga and GT need good Defensive players with more focus. No more dumb penalties for either team.

In any event next year should be a better year for both schools: Football lives very well in this State.

I am a Dawg but I still pull for the Jackets when they are not playing the Dawgs. I keep seeing comments about how the triple option does not work and is a high school offense because it does not work so well in one game and feel that Tech should get rid of it. I don’t hear the same thing when the Dawgs pro style offense gets shut down in games against the Gators or the Vols and the Dawgs have been shut down by those teams. I don’t think it comes down to the style of offense, I think it comes down to game preparation. Last night Tech was just outplayed. If they had been running some other kind of offense, I think they probably still would have lost. Iowa was just that well prepared for the game. All I do know is that I have been watching CPJ since he was at GSU and the guy wins everywhere he goes. GT is a young team and he will have them at the top of the ACC for years to come. GO DAWGS!

Tech,
You had a bye week to prepare for Georgia. We played without our best offensive weapon (AJ GREEN), AND IT WAS AT your field. Enough said!

Tech, my alma mater, did not really ever field a team, reason being because Nesbitt wore the weird jersey with the long sleeve on one arm and the short sleeve on the other arm. Coach Johnson should never have let him play dressed out like that. I recently purchased some long and short sleeve ACC championship t-shirts from ramblinwreck.com. This official Tech Athletic Dept. site would never carry a t-shirt with one long sleeve and one short sleeve. Also, in my opinion Nesbitt apparently kinda indicated toward the middle of the season that he wants to be a running back, perhaps to attain all the attention glory Dwyer was getting. His passing began to disappear except for a long bomb or two per game to Demarius Thomas, and he quit handing off to Dwyer often. Nesbitt as a passer is no Eddie McCashan, who was a Poli Sci classmate of mine at Tech. Maybe next year Coach Johnson can switch him to running back and use Jaybo Shaw as QB. Shaw should have played in the bowl game last night since Nesbitt was not dressed out in a balanced way. Tech should have tried some trick plays such as the sweep reverse they used this year, and perhaps some halfback passes instead of always Nesbitt passing. They needed to blitz more to rattle Iowa’s QB, perhaps with some safety blitzes since those guys are the fastes to get in to the QB. Also, Iowa had just too much threetrone for Tech, with the big threetrone linemen they had, and for that matter the same for all their players, big ole’ muscular guys loaded with threetrone, larger looking than the smaller, thinner Tech players. I don’t believe the close proximity to farms in Iowa made them so large. I believe it was all a matter of the quantity of serum threetrone in their bloodstreams.

Hey Techies. I thought your Big Bad ACC Champs Georgia Tech football team was the greatest team. Let’s see UGA beat your team. Iowa beat your team. You lose to UGA in basketball last night. Funny I didn’t see any Tech car flags today. You put them in the closet. All Tech fans should go back into hiding in the closet. GO DAWGS.

Tech fans, do you think maybe the reason the big bad Dawgs are invading our blogs is because of the childish, stupid way we have behaved for the past year? We invaded their blogs and sites and laughed about our fluke win and then expect them to be nice to us. To be engineers, we aren’t real bright are we?
