Tebow is the best player, period. He has done it all for Fla.MVP! But he has won one time and I like to move it around. COLT McCoy 1st this time. Suh is a hell’va player=2nd then Tebow 3rd, 4. Ingram 5 Gerhart
Thats just my pick….have at it.

look at the numbers! There are tons of QBs with better numbers than him. I mean, freakin Joe Cox threw for more TD’s. Seriously? Joe Cox? No way Tebow is the best player on that list. I would choose any of those guys to be on my team before him. If Florida didn’t have a stingy defense, they would have lost 3 or 4 games this year.

There should only be 3 players on the list and none imho is a QB. I think Suh is the best player but Ingram came up big in the biggest game on the biggest stage. He is my winner, and I’m fairly objective since I don’t care for Ala or Fla. You have to give the devil his due, 3 years ago Tebow was one of the greatest players in CF history. Not this time and McCoy choked big time, so he wouldn’t get an invite were I doing it.

Isn’t it interesting that they all came from football factories, except Stanford. Where is C J Spiller? Heck, with all the prime players around each of the 4 FF schools, most anyone who played for them could win it. It’s the player that does more on a team with lesser players is the one who should get the Heisman. Biased just like the BCS bowl selection.
Otherwise I pick Gerhart, then Suh. Tebow stunk up the SEC Championship, Ingram stunk against Auburn and McCoy stunk against Nebraska. He was lucky his pass out of bounds wasn’t lofted higher or he would have run out of time.
Josh Nesbit would be a better nominee than these 3; His stats, decisionmaking, and the abuse he took should have elevated him into the final nominees. But he and Spiller aren’t in the Cadilac conferences that the sportswriters concentrate on.

If it is a true award for the best overall player, SUH is the winner and if not Gerhart should be a close second.

Hey Drew, you blow sir as Tebow carries his team, has class, and has demonstrated time and time again what true leadership is all about.
Therefore, he gets my vote!
Forget who he plays for, as any team out there would take him as their QB!
Again, this should not be all about STATS since this player is the best player to ever play the college game!
Tebow is clearly above the pack!

I find it odd that CJ Spiller was not even on the list. I thought the Heisman went to the most valuable player on a team…Not the player on necessarily the best team. Without CJ Spiller Clemson isn’t worth a dime. Same thing for the Stanford RB which is why I voted him the winner. Tebo and McCoy are surrounded by play makers CJ Spiller has no help.

Okay honestly Tebow should be out of the picture. You people keep riding this guy jock. Look how many touchdowns he scored during his career when the game was already out of reach. When real coaches would have had their 2nd and 3rd units in they were trying to run up the score. But time will tell. C’mon next season when the no experience guys hit the field. Thanks Tebow and Urban Meyer (stat padders)

This is so bogus. Gerhart, Ingram, McCoy and Tebow are NOTHING I REPEAT NOTHING with out the offensive line. If the offensive line didn’t block it would be 3 and out every series. So the Heisman should go to the offensive line not these Bozo’s. The only player that comes close to being of the list based on his own merit is Suh.

Cinncyjacket and I have the exact same order for the best college football player this year. That’s the criteria, not best pro prospect (Suh 1 or 2, Tebow third round), MVP on best team (Ingram), lifetime acheivement award (Tebow first, McCoy 2nd). Ingram ran behind the best O line in college football and had worse numbers than Gerhart who did not. He sucked against Auburn and 113 on 28 carries against Florida is 4.0 a carry, very average for a college back. But Suh just destroyed one of the best offenses in the country, far and away the dominant player in the college game this year.

Tebow 5th, Gerhart 1st and the rest doesn’t matter……Numbers don’t lie (Thank God).
Tebow (not even the best in the SEC)
7th in the SEC in Passing Yards
6th in the SEC TD Passes
2nd in the SEC QB Rating (Nationally Josh Nesbit has a higher rating as does Case Keenum, Jimmy Clausen and Max Hall)
Gerhart
1st Nationally in Rushing Yards
4th Nationally in Yards Per Game
1st Nationally in Rushing Touchdowns
1st Nationally in Total Rushes on the Season by a RB

Yes, I’m a huge Husker fan, but my vote is not because of that. Suh is the best player, and expected to be 1st in the draft, because he is the best. He completely shut down Colt and that high-powered offense! Something no other team could do, except OU. If he doesn’t get it then I think Ingram should as I feel he is second best. Colt is good, but not best player, in my opinion. They only won because the refs gave Texas an early Christmas present, 1 second!

This award is such crap. The most valuable players are hardly ever finalist. They left off CJ Spiller the most dynamic and most important player to his team. Clemson wouldn’t have won but a couple games if Spiller hadn’t been around. I agree with another post on here that Nesbit should have been a finalist with Suh, and Gerhart. But I’d give it to Suh of the ones listed. I feel bad for whoever wins this year because they’ll amount to nothing in the NFL.

all i have to say is there are a bunch of idiots on this blog. The heisman is not for the most valuable player to their team, it is “awarded to the most outstanding player in collegiate football” CJ Spiller is a great player, but not heisman worthy, Nesbit is the one that you will never hear from again after he leaves college football, and is retarded that people think he should be considered for the heisman. Suh, Ingram, or Gerhart should get it.
Huskerdee

Dental Dawg I agree with you. People think an entire team has to be good in order for a member of the team to get the heisman. That is not what it is. It is for the best all-around player regardless of their team’s rank. Nebraska had a rough season, but Suh is by far the best player this year.

Gerhart plays in a pitiful conference. If any of the top 6 teams in the SEC would have played against hi, he would have been limited to 60 yards rushing, MAX! Mark Ingram has my vote. He is the best player in college football. He gained over 100 yards rushing in a huge victory over one of the best defenses in college football. There are so many haters of the Tide. Ingram is simply the best there is right now. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

Yeah, Ingram sucked it up at Auburn but guess what? He was injured that one game. Gerhart has more yards and alot more touchdowns then Ingram but look where Gerhart is playing? SEC has the best teams hands down. I mean its pretty hard to rush 1,600 yards in the SEC. And the people saying Ingram wouldn’t be there if it wasnt for the offensive line. You’ve obviously never seen him play before. It takes 5 people to bring him down lmao.

Anybody that has seen all five of these players play this season has to agree that Gerhart deserves this award. He has looked virtually unstoppable at so many times this season and has willed his team to win. I think Ingram is the runner-up, with McCoy finishing third (with some great QB numbers), Suh in fourth (tough for a defensive player to win this award) and Tebow finishing fifth (sorry Tim, you are one of the greatest college football players of all time, but this wasn’t your year. Hopefully you will have a great career in the NFL as a defensive back, or slot receiver).

My point is that Ingram didn’t manufacture as many yards by himself as Gerhart did. Ingram ran through big holes. And yes, Ingam was a non-factor in his big rivalry game. Spiller is more deserving than Ingram.
I like Suh, but since most votes went in after the Big12 Championship game, he won’t win.
The argument that the SEC is the best conference is getting stale and undefendable (except against the ACC).

Suh is the most dominant defensive player I’ve seen in the last 30 years. The only reason Gerhart is in the running is because it’s such a pitiful offensive season. He wouldn’t even garner any attention in other years:
Gerhart has 1736 yards, 26 tds, and 10 receptions.
Ray Rice got no Heisman votes in 2007, and he had over 2000 yards, 24 tds, and 25 receptions.
Kevin Smith came in eighth with 2567 yards, 29 tds, and 24 receptions.
Shonn Greene came in a distant fifth last season with 1729 yards, 17 tds, and 8 receptions.

I’m not saying that these players are bad, but none of them perform how they do without help. Gerhart and Ingram need blocking, which they both have pretty good o-lines, and Tebow and McCoy need good blockers, receivers, and fairly good running. Suh even needs help. That Nebraska defense overall is good. It wasn’t just Suh doing all the work. The corners shut down the Texas receivers, and their linebackers are pretty good. Because of that, they should base the winner on their stats and performance in games, so my pick is Toby Gerhart.

Suh dominated all year every game. He never took a game off and when he began getting double and sometimes even triple teamed Crick came up and made the big plays because Suh took all the blockers. I think that Suh deserves the heisman. Gerhart is as tough a player as your going to find and was terribly hard to tackle all season. He also wasn’t surrounded with world-class blockers either. I think he is the runner up. Mark Ingram fought for most of his yards but never could really truck someone. I think he is the third-place winner. Mcoy made the most improvement since last year and led his team for most of the season. I think he is the fourth place winner. Last is Tebow, his numbers were not very good at all. Sure he put his team on his shoulders, but were anything good happened was when they were up big. I think he comes in last place.

1. Suh – not only dominates every game, but his stats make him by FAR the best DT in a long time. The attention he’s getting is new, although he got some after the nationally televised NU-Missouri game, but he’s been doing what he did in the Big12 championship game all year and most of last year as well.
2. Gerhart – the best Running back candidate, but not even 2K yards rushing.
3. McCoy – without McCoy, Texas isn’t 13-0
4. Tebow – without Tebow, Florida isn’t 12-1
5. Ingram – not only is Ingram not the best player in the country, he’s not even the best player at his position, nor was he the best player on his team in the SEC game or the Auburn game.

The whole thing is flawed.
McCoy’s #’s in his 4 biggest games were horrible. He padded his stats against no D Big 12 sorry teams.
Didn’t see Suh play, but defensive players don’t win.
Tebow had a good year, but not a great one.
Ingram had the best game last week and had a good season, but was not consistant.
CJ Spiller made big play after big play all season. Rushing, receiving and special teams… He should be the winner and doesn’t even get in the top 5. Another bogus Heisman Trophy winner again this year.
All that being said, McCoy will win because every 4-5 years the Downtown Athletic Club changes the criteria and gives a “career achievement” Heisman. Congrats Colt, you are this years hand-out.

Tebow honestly should not be in the conversation this year. At this point, he is more of a pop icon created by the media than a football player, and that is the real reason he will be in New York. If any of the other Heisman hopefuls had gotten his level of attention all year, they would be far and away the favorite. C.J. Spiller should be there in Tebow’s stead. He did it all with very little help, and without him, his team would not have made it to the ACC championship. I think that if Florida played John Brantley instead of Tebow, they would not have had a significant drop-off in production. I did not watch Suh very much this season, but when I have, my eyes just about popped out of my head. He is a player that commands the attention of the entire offense and changes another team’s gameplan entirely. Anyone who saw Suh fight off a Texas offensive lineman while simultaneously ripping Colt McCoy to the ground like he was a toddler should have no doubts about who the best player in college football is: Suh.

To drew and you other Tebow haters – I’m not necessarily a gator fan – but can you honestly say that there are just a VERY select few people who have EVER had the impact on a team and on college football that Tim Tebow has had? You might not be a FL fan – just because they beat your lovable dawgs all the time – but at least you are not likely dumb enough to know that Tebow hasn’t made a huge impact on the game – regardless of what you think of the gators. Just sounds like sour grapes to me. We may never to get to see another player like him – with his character, leadership, desire, etc – much less his talent.

This is a phony poll of the author’s opinion.
I think C.J. Spiller was far and away the best football player I saw this year. He played with turf toe through the entire year. His statistics are better than Reggie Bush’s stats were and because he doesn’t play for a school with a J-School, he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. ASK Paul Johnson who he thinks should get the Heisman.
Ingram’s line should be there. Colt McCoy? Puhleeze. Tebow? Too Many Rivers(of tears). Stanford guy? Big slow boy that may have been something back in the day, but get in line behind McCoy.
The Notre Dame QB(Clausen) was better this year than all those mentioned. (P.S.-never heard of the Nebraska guy.)

This is an easy one people Ndamukong Suh is the clear cut #1 he has been dominant all season long. This guy is a beast and has bright future in the NFL and it is very rare you get a game changer at the DT position. Second, my heart says Gerhart but my gut says Ingram, I love Gerharts bruising style, but seriously, do they play defense in the Pac-10 ? What would the stats be if the roles were reversed ? As much as I hate to say it the SEC is the best conference in college football and Ingram delivered in the big game. Plus, it’s hard for me to see this award go to someone that can’t play at the next level. Anyone remember a guy named Ron Dayne ? How about Crouch, White, Toretta etc. That being said I voted for Gerhart 3rd because I do like the way the kid runs and I hope he proves me wrong, plus I think there are other people more deserving than McCoy & Tebow such as Jake Locker, Jimmy Clausen, CJ Spiller, Mardy Gilyard, Jacory Harris, etc. And because the Syracuse and the NCAA suck we missed out on Mike Williams and Dez Bryant respectively.

How is it that UGA fans can rightfully defend others mocking UGA’s maskot’s untimely death and then turn around themselves and mock a human being (Tebo) who is emotional after one of his last football games as a college player? Classless! Now I do know some classy UGA fans and they are great people, but the rest of you who mocked Tebo (a real person) and also defended Uga (an animal) when others mocked an animal’s death should be ashamed. You are no better than those in PETA who think that animals have more value than a human. Shame on you. If and when Mark Richt eventually leaves UGA and he gets emotional because he loves the school we would all respect him. He’s a class act! (That’s coming from a Tech fan.) I just wish UGA fans (or at least the bad ones) would get a clue and show some respect for Tebo. He’s a classy guy – even if ESPN has immortalized him – it’s not his fault. Those who mocked Tebo being emotional are an embarrassment to all of college football. AugustaJacket

I am a Gator fan, but I agree with another of the posts that stated Tebow has already won it….give someone else a try. I have noticed that there is a lot of hate for Florida/Tebow…..what’s up with that? It sucked that Bama took us to the wood-shed but there’s no need to slam them (Bama). I am amazed at all the comments about Tebow crying…..again, what’s up with that? Let this be of comfort for those out there, one year your team will be a beast, kicking butt all over the place. No team stays on top forever, look at FSU and UGA and Notre Dame, all once upon a time at the top….now a little lower than the top.

The top 2 are 11 suh, 2Gerhart, No one else seemed to do more to give his team a chance to win than those 2 and Suh was more of a difference maker than any one else.. Tebow would win it if Florida had won the SEC, but Ingram was not a difference maker against fFlorida, but played better than Tebow. McCoy showed he & Texas to be very overrated.. I think Suh should be the first Lineman since Leon Hart to win the Heisman.

There’s no crying in football! Tebow needs to go crawl in a corner somewhere where he can cry his heart out! What a big baby….

The award is for the most outstanding player, not the running back or the quarterback. Suh is the most dominant and outstanding player in college football this year. He should be the winner. Ask any player who played against him and they will assure you he is tops.

hartwell, chris and george, you are all right on, spiller is awesome. his team did not have a great record, but i thought that the trophy goes to the best college player on the field this year. tough choices, tough situations. no spiller invitation means no respect to a great young kid, who works hard every game for his team and has clearly been the best player on the field when he plays. suh and ingram are my top two, but only one takes it home.

CJ Spiller. I cannot believe the snub he’s gotten from the national media. Too bad he’s had to play on such poorly coached teams. As a GT fan I am glad to see him moved on to the NFL>

It is amazing that CJ Spiller is not even considered for this award. He was incredible all season and certainly has the stats to back it up! McCoy and Tebow had subpar seasons compared to what they have done in the past. Spiller and the QB for Tech should be up there before both of them but national exposure is everything in some arenas I guess!!!!!

It amazes me how all the uga fans still hate Tebow. You don’t have to face him againg, it’s ok. I have a lot of respect for all the players on this list and yes, I think Tebow belongs on here. But, to me, there is no clear cut favorite of who should win. Nobody really dominated college football this season as in the last few years. And, I do agree that CJ Spiller should be on this list.
As far as Tebow crying after the game, maybe losing actually means something to him. After the ACC Championship game, CJ Spiller was crying, I haven’t heard anybody making fun of that, because that game meant something to him. You put your heart and soul into something, it hurts when things do not go the way you wish. I cried after my last high school and college game!!! Am I wrong for that?

I’m pretty happy that the overrated CJ Spiller didn’t make the final 5. Yeah he dominated Tech last weekend, but if you look at it overall he had around 20 TD’s combined with the 5 positions that he plays. A lot of people can return kicks in college if given the chance, but most coaches don’t like to sacrifice their best players to special teams.
I would argue that Suh came up just as big as Ingram did in just as big of a game, but in my opinion if a defensive player is going to get this award he needs to have a lot more than 12 sacks. I think too many people are voting for Suh based on the fact that they would simply like to see something different happen in a “down” Heisman year.
All that said, I vote for Gerhart because he has been the most entertaining to watch and did wonders for a typically bad team.

My vote is for Gehrhart. He leads so many rushing categories, was consistently good throughout the year, got better as the year went on, and had big numbers in big games instead of padding stats against weak teams.
Tebow is great, but statistically much worse than last year. C.J. Spiller is much more deserving of being a finalist – I would have liked to see him on the list.
One more thing – why is Tebow crying after the SEC game? I can understand it after his last home game at UF, or last game of his career (i.e., next month’s game) – or if he didn’t win it all last year and this was his last chance to get the national championship. Really disappointing

This award is supposed to go to the player who is absolutely invaluable to the team and is also a great player. Tim Tebow fits this description…….UF would not be 11-1 without him and probably be in the pack with UGA. Sadly, it is no longer done by these rules…….the media now picks the winner.

Tebow should not even be considered for this award or even for holding the jock strap of anyone on this list. Tebow is nothing more than a novelty act at UF. He will not be anything more than a special teams player in the NFL, if that. Spiller should be the winner, but since Tebow cried so much, they added him to the list instead of Spiller. Ingram or Sue should win the award. Each of them will earn more in a signing bonus than Tebow will earn the rest of his life ( unless he signs a deal with klennex to be their spokesman ).

CJ Spiller should be in the final three. The reason why he’s not because Clemson AGAIN choked and it’s same ole record at 8-5. Spiller is one of the fastest players I ever seen. We will miss you at Clemson!! Thanks for being a Tiger and you will go down the greatest player in Clemson history! The team and coaches let you down during your time at Clemson. no ‘Bama fan is remotely concerned about ingram leaving early; neither are we concerned about mcclain or julio leaving early. we know that athletes who are able to give their best to the university should be able to decide when they want to begin their pro careers. it is silly to expect “loyalty” in an age where the potential for career threatening injury is getting higher every year. i hope ingram wins, but suh is still the best player i’ve watched this year.

What a joke. The best player in College football C.J. Spiller is not one of the five finalists. Tebow and McCoy have no business being there. Tebow has not had a great year and McCoy choked when it counted throwing 3interceptions Saturday night. So much for what you do at the end of the season meaning more to poll voters. It definitely did not mean much to the clowns who voted for McCoy. On the other hand, Spiller shined when it counted. What more could the boy do than what he did against Georgia Tech Ssturday night. That performance should have sewed up the Heisman. Instead he doesn’t even get invited. There ought to be an investigation. I was shocked. All this comes from a South Carolina fan who doesn’t pull for Clemson. However, I recognize talent when i see it. No player in America affected teams the way C.J. did. Most kicked away from him or pooch kicked on kickoffs just so he did not touch it. He will probably be a high draft pick and have a much more successful career than any of the 5 finalists. He will give NFL coaches a nightmare. If I’m a team picking he would be my first pick. It’s a travesty he’s not going to New York.

Nick and others,
The only reason other Nebraska players were able to shine is because Suh was double and triple teamed trying to contain him! Yes, the whole defense is awesome, but Suh is completely dominating, and not even double teaming stopds him. I know they will not give it to a defensive player, but by far, he is the best in the NCAA!

dgroy: no, the award has never been given out according to your criteria, at least not officially. The award is given to “the most outstanding college football player in the United States”. It shouldn’t have ANYTHING to do with being “invaluable” to your team. Two years ago, and even last year, you could make an argument that Tebow fit the criteria. This year, it’s not even close. I’m sure he’ll get at least his own first place vote though!

martin,
That’s the only way you’ve ever played football, in cyberspace!!! When it means something to you, it hurts. So, it is very obvious that you have never been able to strap on an helmet, play the game for real and gave your own blood, sweat and tears for the greatest game ever invented.
So, no you can’t be on this list, you can be on the ‘real’ crybaby list for cyber football players.

Its a popularity contest and that is all there is to it. Before Cable TV you either had to be a running back from USC, Notre Dame or somewhere in the north. Cable TV has shown where the best football is played and until you decide you are tired of a beauty pagent it will continue. If everyone in the Big 12 had of had Tebow at least 3rd, he would have won last year.

The Heisman Committe defines the purpose of the award as the following (straight from their site)
“The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.”
All the candidates exhibit those qualities by that definition.
McCoy and Tebow due to their lengthy resume are at the top of that list.
McCoy and Tebow have exhibited the Heisman definition better than anyone
But too many people view it as the best player in the last game of the season.
Which is a farce
How much more dominant than leading yor team to 13-0 or 12-1.
Ingram is in that club but has not done it as long.
To me McCoy is the logical choice by definition and performance

Who’s gonna win the Heisman, huh? Well, let me tell you……whomever the Media wants to win the Heisman. This award and all of 1-A Football has become a joke and I’m not laughing. I’ve been a fan for sixty years and I never thought I’d see it in this condition……it’s a business, pure and simple…..it’s not sport anymore…..it’s dominated by those whose only purpose is to make it to the big time, the almighty NFL, thugs and those who can play football really well but cannot put a sentence together correctly, either written or orally……wake up, folks…..pinch yourself and ask….”is this really happening?” Answer…..”Yes it is”.

McCoy didn’t win it because of the bad preformance against Nebraska. But again Suh did it all that game. Gehrhart didnt win it because he wasnt on an undeafeted team, or even a one loss team. Suh didnt win it because of the same thing, wasnt on a good enough team but that shouldn’t matter for this nig fella. 82 tackles 12 sacks and one pic? At least he got defensive player of the year, maybe thats why or Ingram deserved it more.
