This award is supposed to go to the player who is absolutely invaluable to the team and is also a great player. Tim Tebow fits this description…….UF would not be 11-1 without him and probably be in the pack with UGA. Sadly, it is no longer done by these rules…….the media now picks the winner.

Tebow should not even be considered for this award or even for holding the jock strap of anyone on this list. Tebow is nothing more than a novelty act at UF. He will not be anything more than a special teams player in the NFL, if that. Spiller should be the winner, but since Tebow cried so much, they added him to the list instead of Spiller. Ingram or Sue should win the award. Each of them will earn more in a signing bonus than Tebow will earn the rest of his life ( unless he signs a deal with klennex to be their spokesman ).

Leaving Spiller completely off the list significantly reduces the credibility of the award. Kind of like Obama winning the Nobel.

CJ Spiller should be in the final three. The reason why he’s not because Clemson AGAIN choked and it’s same ole record at 8-5. Spiller is one of the fastest players I ever seen. We will miss you at Clemson!! Thanks for being a Tiger and you will go down the greatest player in Clemson history! The team and coaches let you down during your time at Clemson. Best of luck to you and your family! GO TIGERS!

Why do some of you have to bring “politics” into anything and everything you say…makes you sound juvenile.
If you have a problem with an elected President…go to Topix and vent. Thanks in advance.

no ‘Bama fan is remotely concerned about ingram leaving early; neither are we concerned about mcclain or julio leaving early. we know that athletes who are able to give their best to the university should be able to decide when they want to begin their pro careers. it is silly to expect “loyalty” in an age where the potential for career threatening injury is getting higher every year. i hope ingram wins, but suh is still the best player i’ve watched this year.

What a joke. The best player in College football C.J. Spiller is not one of the five finalists. Tebow and McCoy have no business being there. Tebow has not had a great year and McCoy choked when it counted throwing 3interceptions Saturday night. So much for what you do at the end of the season meaning more to poll voters. It definitely did not mean much to the clowns who voted for McCoy. On the other hand, Spiller shined when it counted. What more could the boy do than what he did against Georgia Tech Ssturday night. That performance should have sewed up the Heisman. Instead he doesn’t even get invited. There ought to be an investigation. I was shocked. All this comes from a South Carolina fan who doesn’t pull for Clemson. However, I recognize talent when i see it. No player in America affected teams the way C.J. did. Most kicked away from him or pooch kicked on kickoffs just so he did not touch it. He will probably be a high draft pick and have a much more successful career than any of the 5 finalists. He will give NFL coaches a nightmare. If I’m a team picking he would be my first pick. It’s a travesty he’s not going to New York.

Nick and others,
The only reason other Nebraska players were able to shine is because Suh was double and triple teamed trying to contain him! Yes, the whole defense is awesome, but Suh is completely dominating, and not even double teaming stopds him. I know they will not give it to a defensive player, but by far, he is the best in the NCAA!

Tebow’s wildly over-rated. Spiller is vastly under-rated.

dgroy: no, the award has never been given out according to your criteria, at least not officially. The award is given to “the most outstanding college football player in the United States”. It shouldn’t have ANYTHING to do with being “invaluable” to your team. Two years ago, and even last year, you could make an argument that Tebow fit the criteria. This year, it’s not even close. I’m sure he’ll get at least his own first place vote though!

martin,
That’s the only way you’ve ever played football, in cyberspace!!! When it means something to you, it hurts. So, it is very obvious that you have never been able to strap on an helmet, play the game for real and gave your own blood, sweat and tears for the greatest game ever invented.
So, no you can’t be on this list, you can be on the ‘real’ crybaby list for cyber football players.

Its a popularity contest and that is all there is to it. Before Cable TV you either had to be a running back from USC, Notre Dame or somewhere in the north. Cable TV has shown where the best football is played and until you decide you are tired of a beauty pagent it will continue. If everyone in the Big 12 had of had Tebow at least 3rd, he would have won last year.

The Heisman Committe defines the purpose of the award as the following (straight from their site)
“The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.”
All the candidates exhibit those qualities by that definition.
McCoy and Tebow due to their lengthy resume are at the top of that list.
McCoy and Tebow have exhibited the Heisman definition better than anyone
But too many people view it as the best player in the last game of the season.
Which is a farce
How much more dominant than leading yor team to 13-0 or 12-1.
Ingram is in that club but has not done it as long.
To me McCoy is the logical choice by definition and performance

Call the police…. Spiller got robbed! If Spiller had the OL some of the other players had he would have been all world! He did what he did mostly on his own.

Who’s gonna win the Heisman, huh? Well, let me tell you……whomever the Media wants to win the Heisman. This award and all of 1-A Football has become a joke and I’m not laughing. I’ve been a fan for sixty years and I never thought I’d see it in this condition……it’s a business, pure and simple…..it’s not sport anymore…..it’s dominated by those whose only purpose is to make it to the big time, the almighty NFL, thugs and those who can play football really well but cannot put a sentence together correctly, either written or orally……wake up, folks…..pinch yourself and ask….”is this really happening?” Answer…..”Yes it is”.

I feel for C.J. Spiller. That kid is as good as any of these and I’m not a Clemson Fan. If Spiller is not involved, I don’t care who they give it to. I just don’t know if you can pick a best college football player because to me the best one is at home. I guess some years you just have to give it to anybody and this is one of those years. C.J. IS MY PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!!!!!

What a bunch of corrupt mfs. Deangelo Williams had better stats at Memphis than Ingram and none of these corrupt ass wipes voted for him. What a complete bunch of corrupt people. And save your BS about Williams didn’t do it in the SEC crap. He also didn’t run behind AL offensive line, he didn’t have all All American receiver and he didn’t play on a team with the best D in the country.
Just more of the ESPN corruption.

I wanted Suh or McCoy. Ingram has next year. Tebow Sucked in the game that mattered and Ingram came up big. That is why Ingram won it (so i think).

McCoy didn’t win it because of the bad preformance against Nebraska. But again Suh did it all that game. Gehrhart didnt win it because he wasnt on an undeafeted team, or even a one loss team. Suh didnt win it because of the same thing, wasnt on a good enough team but that shouldn’t matter for this nig fella. 82 tackles 12 sacks and one pic? At least he got defensive player of the year, maybe thats why or Ingram deserved it more.

Ah, the only reason Spiller didn’t get on the ballot is because he only had 11 TD’s. If he had more, he is on that list. More Td’s =more yards which would og=f got him the Hiesman…. maybe. Ingram is pretty good.

Tim Tebow? How the heck is he in this years voting? I mean maybe no one else plays with as much heart… but thats not grounds for being the best in the country… and if only heart were involved i’d cast my vote for the Georgia Bulldog Fullback Chris Chappas… no one gives 110% every down like he does.
