The coaches would get an A, but they are supposed to coach defense as well. Special teams let too many kickoff returns go further than they should. But I will take what we did any day over what happened to UGA today

What a fun game to watch. I know that FSU is going to have so much more speed than us… but should we not be able to correct our defensive strategy somewhat during the game? We couldn’t stop them period. We only stopped them when they did something stupid like running into each other.

Josh Nesbitt is the hardest working kid I have ever seen. He is criticized week after week but he doesn’t say a word– and he gives 100% effort on the field every play. Hats off to you Josh!

Can Willie Martinez give Wommack a ride on their way OUT of Georgia? I’m not (and have never been) impressed with Wommack to date (including last season). I think last season we had success in a few games off pure NFL caliber talent.. and now we only have 1 experienced pro level man on the line in Morgan.

The D did stink it up but held when it had to-I watch Bobby Bowden’s press conference on ESPN News- First thing he said no secret we could’nt stop the wishbone- He even said no body can run that thing like Paul can and then he throws in something that was not on tape- nothing we could do to stop it period- Great win on the road for the Jackets- Next weeks game should be great-Go Jackets!!! Offensively tonight, the Jackets were very impressive! Josh Nesbit (seemingly) kept the ball more than usual. Doing so kept the Seminole defense off of Dwyer and the passing game which kept the ‘noles guessing & served GT well.

Defensively, it was a different story. Jackets’ defense arm-tackled WAY too much. Special teams’ performance deserves a D – . Why does THAT continue week after week?

BUT, Jackets are in the hunt for the ACC title & beyond! By the way, anybody catch a score from Knoxville?

don’t like give tech credit, but they gave it their all tonite, as far as the dawgs, well hopefully there will be better days, when the dawgs have dominated tech over the years, you can bet i loved it, but i tried to not rub it in cause it always comes back to bite you, if the dawgs don’t improve in all phases by the time we play, then it will be a long night, i still believe we will beat some people that we are not expected to, but we are a down team right now, i know the tech people love this, if the shoe was on the other foot and it has been we would be gloating too, until the dawgs can look like a football team we will have to take our medicine…one thing i would like to say thought, Coach Johnson is a very good coach, but Coach Richt has proven himself pretty good for the last eight years, so i think its a little premature to say who is the better coach, but for now you can have bragging rights…..

The O-line is much improved. Josh is making more accurate reads and better decisions overall.
The D looked horrendous first half, but came through in the second and showed some heart.
But this game was about coaching. Looked every bit like a trap game for TECH, with Bowden’s supporters rallying around the team, on the road, emotions running high etc. Coach Johnson earned this win by navigating the team through a dangerous game and that is straight up COACHING.

You can beat FSU with 44 points given up by the defense but against Virginia Tech next Saturday a new strategy is needed. Gamble. What have you got to lose?

Dawgster, your dawgs will get it together. I actually pull for the pups until late November. Coach Richt is a good man, but he needs to cut his loses. Coach Johnson need to do the same. Fire Womack and Martinez!

We tech fans are just happy to when in Doak Stadium. I actually feel for Coach Bowden, but did he feel for us over the last 12 wins over my Jackets? I think not.

Offensively, that was probably the most impressive I have seen this offense over the course of 4 quarters since Johnson came to Tech. The efficiency with which this offense has been running the last 3 weeks now is pretty impressive…and it needs to be given the state our defense and inability to stop the pass. What worried me defensively tonight, at least in the first half, was that not only do we have problems covering the pass, but we really struggled to simply tackles guys as well. It’s one thing if you just can’t keep up with a dude who’s faster than you, or if the defensive schemes suck, but it’s inexcusable to not tackle a guy who you were able to get both as hands on. But the second half GT looked great all around. We’ll need that next week against VT. Here’s to a great win for a team with a huge heart and who has proven (remember Athens!) that they refuse to give up. GO JACKETS.

The Paul Johnson offense is beginning to hit on all cylinders now just in time for Virginia tech. The defense needs to get a better pass rush going, but they got it done when we needed it the most.

The coaching gets an A solely based on the adjustments made at halftime. When things are not working, good coaches make in game changes. On the defensive side of the ball things were atrocious in the first half, but CPJ and the DC changed the schemes and got some athletes in positions to make better plays in the second half. GT still needs some defensive improvements to compete next week or in November.

Dawgster, thanks for the comments. It is good to see real fans of the game. CMR is a heck of a football coach, and he will get everyhting rolling again. Say what you want, but FSU has never been the same since he left north Florida.

Offensive – what a statement! Defense is an embarassment. They got punked by FSU and the only stop on FSU was dropped passes by wide open receivers. We better find some answers fast or we will get embarrased by VT.

One thing I think is being overlooked about that game:
The defense sucked yes. But they were able to do something that FSU’s defense couldn’t: slow the other team down and eventually get stops.
FSU did not once force Tech to punt or go for a field goal. Tech forced two field goal attempts and an attempt on 4th down. The first half, they slowed FSU down a lot.

All this was despite our offense not helping them by scoring on one and two play drives. When our offense went out and controlled the ball a little, the defense performed. But the first half, they were gassed and the result was predictable for an exhausted and very young defense.

Bottom line: Tech won.The defense gave up 400 yards and 35 points in the first half and 9 points and about 150 yards in the 2nd half.Thats a hell of an improvement, any way you look at it!The Tech defensive coaches made adjustments and motivated the players to play harder and make stops. My hat is off to the defense. You guys sucked it up in a hostile environment against great odds and won the game. You naysayers can stick it.I’m proud of the JACKETS!

Nesbitt is on my Heisman list, he saved the game when he took the ball back from the FSU tackler late in the game, then let his legs take over in the last few minutes grinding out the clock.VT game is humongus for GT, lets get every true TECH supporter out to Bobby Dodd stadium next Saturday night and show the Hokies & the rest of the world who the REAL TECH is.

I also noticed all the uga fans are laying low this morning because they are in shock after making the Vols look like a top 10 team yesterday, I guess we wont hear too much crap this week about how they are going to beat us in a few weeks , that is pricesless …THWG

REAL Bottom line: FSU dropped two wide open passes in second half. Nesbitt fumbled twice, and luckily got one back after a stupid FSU player did not fall on the ball. Refs were the jackets best friend, Helmet to Helmet? What a joke, GT does same thing in the next series and no flag. Bad no call.

“but should we not be able to correct our defensive strategy somewhat during the game?”

Did you not watch the second half? We only gave up 129 yards of offense in the second half. Included drives of -3, 10, and 27 (and a scoring drive of 41 but can’t claim that was a good drive).

We made some adjustments and they worked. Enough to where we almost ended up with more yards even though they were killing us in the first half.

Defense made stops when we needed em, but it was still the worst tech defensive performance I’ve seen in a while. Big stat is 10-13 on third down for FSU. I think they were 8-8 at one point. If we stop 5 of those its a different ball game and we win easy. That’s 5 drives where they’d have to punt, we get the ball, and we score. We’re close, but we need some more pass rush and some better coverage by the corners, particularly on third down.

Offense was unbelievably good.

We’re almost there as a team. Getting Egbuniwe (know I’m spelling that one wrong) back on D and Cooper Taylor should help too, though don’t expect to see him soon. I don’t know if firing Wommack is the answer. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but that shouldn’t be for us to decide. I trust CPJ to evaluate whether Wommack needs to go at the end of the year.

NOTE: This means our job is to get BEHIND the team and not call for a coach to get fired. It’s easy to blame the coaches but I promise you Wommack isn’t the only reason our defense is bad. Let’s not be like the bulldogs and let our head coach figure out on his own when its time to let someone go. CPJ won’t put up with mediocrity for long.

Anyone else notice how the FSU players started getting dirty in the 4th quarter? One of them tried twisting Jon Dwyer’s leg and numerous times they were kneeing Nesbitt after they had tackled him down field. Ole’ Mickey Andrews comes from the Bear Bryant/Darwin Holt School of Defense. Their motto is: If you can’t beat them, hurt them. Andrews had all off season to change how he played the GT spread, especially after it torched them last year until Nesbitt got hurt. Guess he was planning on the same method working this year.

p.s.- Loved the way Bay-Bay Thomas absolutely punked Mr. 5 Star Reid of FSU.

CPJ does indeed have the Ramlin’ Wreck clicking on all cylinders offensively. This should silence the critics who said the trip option was solved a few weeks ago. Despite the putrid defensive performance, the Jackets D did play much better in the second half. Even when FSU made a good play, it was much more likely due to a good pass by Ponder than a lapse in D (unlike the first half). That said, it’s impossible not to worry about the D, and our D line will not win many battles on the line of scrimmage. They have to change the scheme. But with the offense we have, we should always have a chance, even with a soft defense.

Whew! we escaped with a W thanks to Josh & the offense. Our defense stunk up the joint and if it weren’t for the improvement in the second half I would be recommending that Dave W get his resume updated. I, for one, was very impressed with the Jackets. FSU tried to pull away but couldn’t and Tech pushed the hardest in the end. They wanted it more, no doubt. I couldn’t help but think the way the Dawgs and Tech played, the November game may be embarrassing… again. You all deserve the great win on the road in hostile confines. Great win last night Tech!!! You know what it is amazing at us Tech fans. We are complaining about the defense. Yes they had the worst first half I have ever seen before, but they did something that FSU could not do they made a stop!!! They could have easily gave up, but no they overcame adversity made plays when they needed too. I see a few posters saying that the D didn’t stop FSU, but they dropped some passes. That is the whole key, when facing adversity you have to make big plays and the O and D did that. A complete team win!!!

People drop passes just like we missed blocks. No one is perfect. That’s why you play the game. The fsu player thought he could have ran for a good amount of yards on his fumble recovery. The play by Nesbitt to rip the ball from his hands was pure will. Nesbitt wanted it more and you have to give him credit for that instead of bashing the fsu player for being stupid. As for the refs being on our side, hahaha. You must have missed the opening kickoff where we forced and recovered a fumble, only for the refs, that love GT so much, to give fsu the ball even though video evidence confirmed GT recovered the fumble. Grow up brokeback. Just cause your team forgot what sport they were playing over at rocky top doesn’t mean you gotta be a sore loser. Hope that humble pie tastes good.

The defense is truly terrible. The only reason that FSU didn’t score another 20 to 30 points in the second half was because our offense kept the ball away from their offense much of the last half. The offense is really coming together and becoming what we all had hoped for, but am not sure we can hang 35 or 40 on a Bud Foster defense. I know Tenuta was a pain, but can you imagine having his defense that rarely gave up more than 20 per game and this offense together. I think coach Wommack needs to get his act together because our defense has been nothing to hang our hat on since almost midseason of last year. Guys, we are only an above average to good defense, from being national contenders….I hope and have faith that CPJ won’t put up with this much longer. The window of opportunity is usually a small one, and can close suddenly…just ask those inbreds to the east… Our offense could really be something special next year, not to mean that it is not good this year. We are only a good defense from being a true player at the next level… I hope our defense won’t hold us back from possibly a shot at a championship, not just ACC, but NATIONAL championship. Go for it, the Mayan calender says we only have until December 2012.
