Time for the report card on the Falcons’ effort Sunday against the Patriots in New England. Rate the team on the following four categories: offense, defense, special teams and coaching.
What grade would you give the Falcons' offense?
What grade would you give the Falcons' defense?
What grade would you give the Falcons' special teams?
What grade would you give the Falcons' coaches?
Mr. Thomas Anthony Jones, Sr.

The Falcons were overrated by everyone.
September 27th, 20094:31 pm
Not very good all the way around.
September 27th, 20094:34 pm
Shake it off, make adjustments during the bye week and beat the 49ers in 2 weeks.
September 27th, 20094:36 pm
Enter your comments here falcons d horrible, no blitzes?
September 27th, 20094:37 pm
Poor decision making on both sides of the ball. Coach Smith got schooled today.
September 27th, 20094:38 pm
I only saw Gonzalez make one catch before I gave up watching…thought he could have been used more.
September 27th, 20094:39 pm
Out coached and out played, really looked as if they were not prepaared. I’m sure that things will be addressed for the next game but today ws pathetic.
September 27th, 20094:40 pm
Falcons showed New England too much respect! It’s like they were satisified with just being close in the game. Poor kicking game, terrible defense, …….uh oh! There goes those same ole Falcons!1
September 27th, 20094:41 pm
If Michael Jenkins is your leading receiver…………NO WAY will the Falcons win!!!
September 27th, 20094:44 pm
Falcons caught looking at the Championship rings of the Patriots. I thought the players were going to kiss the Patriots after the game. Abraham and the other GIRLS (Jamal Anderson) on defensive line should have had on a DRESS today………because they looked like they were dancing at the PROM>
Huge Falcon Fan
I’ve seen this many times before. The Patriots offense against our defense looked like a cat playing with a mouse. They could do anything they wanted against us. I don’t think Brady even needed to dress for this game. He could have been in street clothes today. We can’t stop the run or the pass….hell, pick one or the other and at least try to stop something. I was also disappointed in our offense. We couldn’t run the ball and therefore couldn’t pass the ball. We were totally beated on both lines of scrimmage today.
September 27th, 20094:45 pm
I thought the Falcons didn’t show the bravado on 4th downs like the Patriots. The 4th down on the 38 yd line and punt! You’ve got to show guts and confidence in your team. Then the Falcons punt the ball away with 1 timeout left with 7 minutes left and 16 points down! You have to try at that point to get a first down or the game is basically over. I’m confused because I love our Coach Smith but he didn’t make the best decisions to put our team in a position to win.
September 27th, 20094:46 pm
Is it just me, but GRIMES could be mistaken as the BALL BOY. I am sure they check his ID at every game (home and away). AND CHRIS HOUSTON……..who looks good but reminds you of the BUSTED PLAY RAY BUCHANAN………….HOUSTON YOU ARE A PROBLEM!!!
September 27th, 20094:47 pm
There has to be some more Defensive backs out there besides these Jaguar Rejects. There is a reason they were cut………..and it wasn’t money……….HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!
September 27th, 20094:48 pm
HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM……………..YOU!!!
September 27th, 20094:49 pm
Didn’t matter who was playing defensive back today…you can’t give Brady that kind of time
September 27th, 20094:50 pm
RODDY -WHITE-IS GABAGE!!!!!!!!gARBAGE!!!!!!
JAMAL ANDERSON…………..is STEALING FROM THE Blank. He is the only player who does not have to wash his uniform each week and he plays!!
September 27th, 20094:52 pm
Frankly, I am done with kissing this coaching staffs’ a$$! Today they showed an utter lack of creativity both offensively and defensively. I suppose that no completions to TG ’til the 3rd qtr. was part of the gameplan??? I suppose that the stale running game to this point was worthy of up the middle for nothing repeatedly in the first half??? I suppose that the only play worth challenging is one involving TG??? God forbid he (Smitty) challenge defensively on third down when Grimes clearly dislodged the ball going out of bounds (Moss). I put this loss squarely on the coaches, for it was obvious the entire game that we had the edge in athleticism and talent. The coaching staff has an utter lack of creativity and will-power. Ever heard the saying nothing ventured nothing gained??? We did not blitz one time and paid the price for our arrogance. As if the Jets did not lay the foundation for us. NO PRESSURE!!! We deserved to lose and this from a true Falcon’s fan. What an utter waste of talent and an utter lack of coaching by the Falcons’ staff. I am, and we should be ashamed! Screw the officials! It should not have been in their hands to begin with. Our coaches have NO GUTS! Case closed! Argue with that! We’ll be lucky to have a winning season with the likes of them. I kept my mouth(keyboard) shut last week, fearing such an exhibition. And here it was for the whole world to see….Nice job coaching staff! I repeat; NO GUTS!!! No blitzes=No wins!! DUH? Even I know that! Brady and his coaches did too….Pathetic!
Good luck! I am thouroughly disgusted with the effort and personnel decisions. Go ahead and give JA98 another start Fools! What more do you need to say??? Utterly dissappointed, in the Atl.
Grimes plays on Friday nights as well……………for Flowery Branch High School
September 27th, 20094:54 pm
Jamal Anderson has problems sacking the QB in practice with NO OFFENSIVE LINE in front of him
Roger D Smart
With a current record of 2-0, this game vs New England, the Falcons did not have much of a passing game, and New England had better plays, and their defense was better, WHY? I am not giving up on my Falcons, but we have to learn from this. We shouldn’t loose our next game!!!!! Were we prepared for this game? Now, with a record of 2-1, we have to win the next few games to stay on top.
Mike peterson had a rough day. missed talkles all day long.
September 27th, 20094:56 pm
There must be a special place in Heaven for Falcon fans.
September 27th, 20094:58 pm
I’ll never stop loving the Falcons, but they sure do try a fans patience.
Dawgfan 4 life
One bad game and everybody wants to be Patriot fans. What great fans we have in Atlanta!!
September 27th, 20094:59 pm
You can’t blame Peterson although I saw the same missed tackles. There were no risks taken defensively, and that spelled our doom! We lack any killer instinct at all. Playing scared will not grant you wins…..Smitty are you listening???? Van Gorder??? Anyone???

Falcon fans are really just frustrated after so many years of this type of ball.
September 27th, 20095:02 pm
1) No pressure 2)Poor tackle attempt 3) Smith got schooled 4) Didn’t Tony G. make the trip 4) Jamal Anderson ??????????????
September 27th, 20095:04 pm
I love the Falcons, but we lost due to inept coaching. How does that reflect on the fans? Are we not allowed to call them out? You can single out all the players that you want, but on either side of the ball: They were not put in positions to win all day. You will get beaten by the good teams if your coaching SUCKS! Ours’ did! Period!
I still have hope, but the Staff must take the blame for this loss and make adjustments, or this scenario will be repeated. And repeated. And repeated. And repeated.
You should know that “Dawg fan…” LOL

The falcons will never win with Pop Warner sized D-backs against pro sized receivers. Looked like the midgets out there. Offense was the worse I saw in the past 5 years. No imagination and no spirit. A 12 year old could draw up better plays in the dirt with a popsicle stick.
Receivers had no separation in the second half and the great O-line sucked. Need a real running back with drive, that does not go down with a hand slap to the leg. Overall grade for this game: Team–D, Coaches–F-. Team was not ready to play.
September 27th, 20095:08 pm
Attempt numero dos…
Uninspired, reactionary, poorly prepared and little execution.
Not much else to say. Pats gave the berdz every opportunity to take the game and apparently they were not interested.
Why fellas, allow me!
Matt Ryan, meet Tony Gonzalez.
Future hall of famer.
Creates his own space.
Look for him Matt, he’s usually got a step on his defender.
I’m not sure but did Ryan throw a ball to Gonzalez all game? I don’t remember one but I FF thru a bunch of repetative laziness and may have missed it.
So much for your record, Tony.
September 27th, 20095:10 pm
The Turner fumble was huge , a 10 point swing. Not blaming that play for the entire game.
Still have a lot of confidence in Owner , GM , Head Coach and assitant coaches. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME OLD FALCONS. Really Really tough schedule.
He did get at least one catch Bugman!
But thank you for making my point valid!
I have been a falcons fan since 1966. so you know i’ve seen my share of loseing in all those years.I just hope this team is different.Todays game brings back those memories.
September 27th, 20095:13 pm
Sure does Bull butter…. I hope so too!
Boils down to coaching at this point!
Be Aggressive! B. E. Aggressive!!
September 27th, 20095:17 pm
Patriots O-line looked terrible vs. Bills and Jets. Not sure why Falcons couldn’t get any pressure.
September 27th, 20095:18 pm
I can’t believe what I have been reading here today! The team is 2-1, and had a bad day against a Super Bowl caliber team, who was seeking revenge from a loss last weekend, in THEIR BACK YARD, who are (BTW) being coached by arguably the best coach in the NFL! I have loved the Falcons since childhood (late 60’s) but there is NO WAY I would have betted on them to win this game today….and they didn’t. I have the Falcons winning 11 games again this year, and this is certainly one of the losses that I expected. You fans need to get a life….want to retread back to the days of Petrino?! This coaching staff, ownership group, and players, have brought the team back from laughingstock to respectable in record time. Be happy you live in Georgia and SUPPORT your freaking team! I happen to live in DC and have little to no opportunities to enjoy my beloved Falcons, but I have to sit in Nationals Park and watch the mediocrity of your sorry Braves several times a year. Atlanta fans truly are some of the worst in sports.
September 27th, 20095:20 pm
What were the buzz-words this year?
Let’s see that from the coaching staff!!!
Van Gorder=Man Shorter
September 27th, 20095:24 pm
Are you (Sullyzz) insinuating that we should not have won this game considering what occurred on the field today???
I didn’t think so!
The staff blew it! Period!
I would never bet on the Falcons, don’t bet with the heart as the saying goes….
September 27th, 20095:26 pm
This coaching staff is garbage. You mean to tell me all the offensive weapons on this team and the Patriots shut down everyone? We’re still running Turner and we’re 9 points down, then we put the ball on 4th and 3? Mularkey is full of Mularkey. And don’t even talk about this atrocious defense…my God. We are two good years of building the defense to be a contender. This current defense is a patchwork of rookies and over the hill players.
September 27th, 20095:28 pm
Hey, at least Willie Martinez isn’t a part of the Falcons’ coaching staff!
September 27th, 20095:31 pm
Hey Mularkey….why wait til the 4th quarter to get a ball finally thrown to Tony Gonzalez? Did you already forget what worked against Carolina AND the Dolphins?
The Patriots were very “beatable” today..both teams looked lousy but our offensive coordinator (MM) forgot to use his weapon in the gunfight!
From where I was sitting(at home), it seemed that we should have blitzed at least once this entire game! I guess that’s just being a crappy fan though huh?(Sullzz)
Coaching kept the players from making the plays…Confused…and ashamed of coaching!
Players did enough to win…hate it for you guys.
September 27th, 20095:32 pm
this van gore defense sucks, some times he gets lucky but overall,
he needs to go. how long is this defense supposed to bend before they break.
he sucks, and his play calling sucks. we had the key to the game. and we
didnot blitz brady at all.
September 27th, 20095:33 pm
Nothing will stop some of us to love the Falcons. So Falcons quit trying too!
September 27th, 20095:35 pm
the play calling for both offense and defense sucked. maybe
this was thanx from T.D. for all they did for him.
September 27th, 20095:38 pm
I would hope that the players get a sincere apology from the “staff” for today’s miserable outing. They were not allowed to perform to the best of their abilities. NO PLAYER or PLAY caused this horrendous performance and frankly, I’m sick of hearing how great our coaching is….considering our recent performances.
The defense played held the Pats to field goals on 4 drives, but the offense has to stay on the field to give the D a breather. Heard on NFL Network during the week that the Falcons defense was suited for the Pats style of play. They were not attacking like the Jets, and if Brady is given time, it’s extremely tough to beat the Pats.
If bystanders could figure this out, how come the Falcons coaching staff could not?
You have to develop a scheme for the team that you’re playing, bit offensive and defensive, and the Falcons did not do that. This loss goes largely to the coaching staff.
