Kentucky's Taylor Wyndham sack of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow forced Tebow to leave the game. (MCT)
Would you have left an ill Tim Tebow in the game, leading Kentucky 31-7 late in third quarter?
Florida coach Urban Meyer did, and the result was not pretty in Saturday night’s SEC game in Lexington.
Tebow took a vicious hit and, after several minutes of lying motionless on his back, had to be helped off the field. He was seen vomiting on the sidelines and eventually had to be taken out of the stadium in an ambulance.
Meyer visited with Tebow’s parents at the stadium and later told reporters he believed his star had suffered a concussion.
Florida went on to win 41-7.

Some of these posts are shameful. I won’t name anyone because probably in their mind would give them some kind of sick recognition. You make all dawg fans look bad. I hope Tebow has a full recovery. How anyone can be happy or make demeaning comments about this kid’s injury is a sick commentary on the a few bad apples that would eat their own just to win a game.
As for Urban Meyer, it’s more than apparent, he only has his best interests at heart and would sacrifice any player on the roster for a win. He just strikes me as that kind of man.

First off, hope Tebow is alright. He is a very good role model regarless what people might want to say.
But, I’m suprised this hasn’t happened before now. Over the years, Meyer has left Timmy in the game just to pad stats and to say otherwise is folly on anyone’s part. No sense in denying it, just look at the last four years. Numerous exampes EVERY year.
Secondly, it was a CLEAN hit. Actually, it was a great hit and no Kentucky was not TRYING to hurt Florida players. All the gators blaming UK or the player need to look no further than their own coach.
TG, I agree, but I’ve thought bama was the best team in the SEC since the VT game.

Will Tebow play against LSU? Time will tell. Will Tebow be gunshy? Probably not. Will Tebow get hurt again? My magic 8-ball says maybe. Will Tebow break Walker’s record for rushing TD’s? Yes, if you believe everything said about Meyer in these comments. Will the Gators roll over and play dead if Tebow never takes another snap? No, if anything; they will be better.

Heck, I was watching the game (why weren’t the Dawgs on?!?) wondering why Tebow was in the game at the start of the 3rd quarter. They were up 31-7 against Kentucky! I’d cuss Mark Richt out if he left Cox in a game like that! Let the young guys get some reps in a game situation. Even with our schizo defense.
The hit was clean, it was his head hitting the offensive lineman’s knee. And Tebow dipped his chin right before he got hit so the pictures don’t show the real story. Look at the replay a little better. The KY players didn’t know he was hurt when they were celebrating, they were just glad they rocked Tebow. Which is precisely WHY YOU DON’T LEAVE YOUR STARTING QB IN WITH A 31-7 LEAD!!!

Typical Meyer trying to run up the score on an already defeated opponent. It finally backfires and y’all want to blame the other team for a cheap shot? What a freakin joke. It was 31-7 in the 4th quarter! You want to play that way? Then don’t cry wolf when your players get hurt. BTW, Teblow caused the helmet to helmet when he ducked his head at the last second.

I think all DAWGNATION hopes for a full recovery and nothing but the best for Tebow. But lets get a few things straightened out;
1. This is an unfortunate hit that happen and it makes matter worse when you’re trying to run up the scoreboard at their house, I don’t like it but we all know that this the way it goes. But because of this BCS nonsense you have to run up the scoreboard to get a higher ranking, so stop blaming Meyer and Tebow.
2. UF fans are more concerned with the NC chances due to the injury to Tebow than Tim’s health. I am not hating on UF, this is just a fact in my opinion.
3. UK is not a team of thugs, they did what they had to do. Emotions are a big part of the game, get over it.
I honestly thought something like this was going to happen during the TENN game. All the best to Tebow.

This was nothing more than Florida trying to pad the score for the pollsters. There is no way that your all-world QB should have still been in the game. If I’m a kentucky coach, I tell my player: nice job son,way to go!

First of all I do believe it was a helment to helment hit. But as a football player myself I dont think the kid was trying to lead with his helment. Just think about it. Hes coming around the end and sees a clear shot at tebow and he was so pumped that he just went after him. And for the rest of his life he can say that he sacked Tebow. Im a die hard gator fan and last night I was pissed about the hit but looking back on the tape. The ky players was happy and celebrating but when they seen him just lieing there they quit celebrating. I did see the shirts that said gator haters But that whole stadium proved that that was a false statement. The stadium got so quiet and when Tebow got up they were all cheering. I didnt here them cheer like that the whole game. It made me feel good that they have respect like that. Thats what SEC football is all about. Tebow will be OK. What really pissed me off is I live in morgantown WV and all thes mountaineer fans Hate the gators and Tebow because there jealous. And while Tebow was laying on the ground one of my so called friends sent me a txt message that simply said (superman eh…) I went off on him and now he thinks I over reacted. Can anyone out there tell me If you think I was wrong cause I think that was a classless move. But I guess that is what you should expect from a bunch of wv fans. All they got hope for is a good tailgate and to to wish the worst for all good teams.

Florida was not trying to run up the score. There offense has stuggled passing the ball. The ky game was no more than a scrimmage and they needed the practice. They are off next week and they need to have as much time on the field as possible before the lsu game

TampaGator, please stop with the Coach Richt sent his players on the field to celebrate, I know for a fact, not just his word, but firsthand info from a player that knows the real story and how the players took what Coach Richt said and decided to make a statement in their on way, i think all involved what see how it got out of hand and regret doing it, but in no way did Coach Richt order or suggest the entire team go out on the field, so unless you have some insight that i don’t have in this matter and believe me i do, then stop spouting incorrect info…As far as Tebow, i pray and hope he is ok, he is truly a fine young man, any parent would be proud to have him as their son and any coach would be proud to have him on their team, I don’t know about the Kentucky players celebrating him be hurt, but i have to hope, knowing football players as i do, they all fear having a severe injury or even contributing to or causing an injury to another player…I do think that Coach Meyer loves to run up the scores , I think that him being in the game or not at that point is up to the coaching staff, they have to answer that question, but with that being said, that injury could happen at any point in a game…I will add that some of my biggest gripes with Coach Richt’s game day coaching his that he calls off the dawgs or at least in the past has called off the dawgs when clearly the game was not in doubt and thus we have had teams score or could not score ourselves thus the game was closer than it really was, i know the other players want to play as a reward for all their hard work so this is a good thing and gives young players experience, but unfortunately the pollsters look at the final score make their decisions on where to rank them just based on the final score, until we have a playoff this will still be an issue, it just happens Coach Richt does not believe in doing that, or course at this point in the season this years team probably will not have that problem until other issues are resolved….

The officiating this year is horrible!!!! I am so tired of the oficials calling every little celebration or “helmet to helmet” hit. That was a clean hit and there should be no discussion about it!!! This is D-1 college football….not flag football. You never want to see anyone get hurt, but if anyone is at fault it is Urban “CRYER”!!! Why does he feel the need to score 70 points a game to impress the BCS???? He already has them and the damn media in his pocket. Even if FL losses 3 games, they will still be top ten…..AND IT IS GREAT TO BE A GATOR HATOR!

LOOK at that picture and tell me that’s not a helmet to helmet! Actually in watching the slo-mo video, it definitely looks the Kentucky kid led with his helmet with a shot under the chin. I saw the same thing in the UCLA/Tenn game and the UCLA QB ended up with a broken jaw. Something needs to be done to better protect these players like they do in the NFL. I’ll gaurantee that if that would have occured in the League, it would have drawn a fine.

Tim’s on his way home on one of the two University’s UAA jets that flew to Lexington Friday, along with Coach Meyer and he is fine. Knowing Tim, he’ll want to go to practice this afternoon. He very tough and has played with injuries before, including a badly broken leg in a game during his Junior year at Nease High School. The University is going to have to restrain him on this one however, and make sure he is A OK. But he is a straight up Warrior.

This has nothing to do with helmet to helmet. He should not have been in the game period.
The game was over. The starters should have been on the bench. If he is on the bench, he wouldn’t be hurt. In terms of the helmet complaint, that is part of football. Reggie Brown was nearly killed by an Auburn player some years ago, but I had no issues with the hit. That is what DB’s are taught to do. Knowshon took some major hits last year but that is part of the game. We are talking about split second decisions for people that are off balance and playing with emotions. I guess Gator players never deliever head shots.

ReptilesRule, you need to study more film or actually strap on the helmet and get out on the field, the collisions and speed of the game nowadays is unbelievable and why you can look at this film of this hit from many angles and perceptions, the fact is that football is a collision sport, i saw a similar type hit delivered from the dawgs safety against a Ok State player earlier in the season that did draw a flag and probably changed the outcome of that game, I don’t know how you control some of the hits that are going to occur, you try and protect the players from the intentional illegal hits, but just because a player gets hurt on a violent collision doesn’t mean it was a dirty play, sometimes things just happen, an althought you pray that it want, again football is a collision sport, which reminds me of a statement from a youth coach to our parents before the season, “Parents this is a collision sport, if your children continue to play this game, at some point there will be some injuries, we all hope that they will be minor, but again, this is a collision sport….

It’s hard to keep a Heisman winner who’s that passionate and who is probably the best all around player in the history of College Football and maybe college sports in general off of the field. The 4th Quarter obviously, but you can’t take him out that early. If it hadn’t of happened no one would even bring that point up. Gamers play.

On a somewhat related note: Is it necessary for players to wear hard plastic helmets? Wouldn’t a padded leather helmet (sort of like what boxers wear) work just as well and reduce injuries? I thought I saw some studies about this years ago, but I don’t remember where. They’re not driving in a car, so why the rigid helmets? It may have helped in this case. Not the initial hit, but it may have helped to reduce the damage when his head hit the OL’s knee. Padded leather gives a lot more than a little padding in a plastic helmet.

Joe Friday…ditto with the ammonia packs. It’s a “rude awakening” and leaves that little nagging headache. Remember those little yellow salt pills?? And if you even got near the water hose during practice(yep, that was our sophisticated “hydration” system back at CHS), the coach would give you a dirty look. Sorry about the trip back in time, really old school!!

I hope Tim gets well soon, he took one heck of a hit. Secondly, I don’t blame Urban for keeping Tebow in the game. Yes, you put up 31 in the first quarter, but the Gators had trouble putting more points on the board after that. At that point in the game Florida was driving and one more score would have put it in the books decisively. Yes, Kentucky had trouble moving the ball all night but throw in another UK score and it might have changed the complexion of the game. It’s not over until you play a full 60 minutes. Kinda like the last time Florida played UK in Lexington, where Meyer had to put in his 1st string offense late in the 4th quarter. Hindsight is 20/20, don’t blame your coach.

ReptilesRule, i’m don’t have too spout off about my credentials here, my point is if you truly played the game(i’m trying to figure out the 6 years of H.S), then you know the how you are coached and you know what it takes and what is expected out on that field, and as a player you are taught and coached on how to tackle, how to wrap up and you continue to practice these all of the time, but as i was saying it is a collision sport and violent collisions do happen, we all get excited when a powerful hit is delivered and always hope that the players get up and are ok, but again my point is i could not see anything in that hit that a coach would not feel was an appropriate hit, I feel sure that Tebow would and will say the same thing, it was an unfortunate play, but being around this game for as long as i have, i just don’t see the malicious intent from the kentucky player, if his hit is illegal as was the case for our safety a few weeks back, then a serious look at where we have this game evolved should be reviewed, are there more ways to protect the players, I’m sure they are and there are rules that do this, but many, many hits are a judgement call on the refs part if they fall within the rules…And by the way, Mr. ReptilesRule you can disagree with anytbing i say here, we all have that right, but please don’t quote me your credentials, if you played the game then thats great, i don’t have to do that and feel no reason to quote my credentials, but if i said something on my previous comments that was challenging your credentials, then i apologize, my point was that people who played the game know what its like and realize if you play with intensity, then you know these collisions will happen….

TampaGator , Florida does not win 2006 natl. champ. without Tebow. He may not of been the starting QB but he was the best RB on that team. Florida’s offense was pretty bad all year. They had their best game on offensive in the championship game . So yes a Tebowless Meyer will be interesting to watch. I would assume next year Florida would abandon the spread which does not favor Brantley. But they didn’t when Leak was their QB.

It was Tim’s 11th pass attempt in the first offensive series of the third quarter. If you look at Colt McCoy, he attempted 38 passes vs UTEP and he also played into their first offensive series of the thrid quarter with a bigger lead

NO WAY Tebow should have been in that game at that point (or really at all). I don’t know why Meyer found it necessary to pad stats against an already beaten Kentucky. Oh well.

To all the Timmy fans out there, let’s thank god he’s going to be okay. The scary part of the the play was the definite whiplash from Gilbert’s knee. All I could think of was the description of Earnhardt Sr.’s injury description. The difference was Gilbert’s knee didn’t have the same force as going 170 mph and slamming into a concrete wall. Thank God! To all of the Tebow and Myer haters, relax, you should be used to both of them kicking your beloved team’s asses’ by now!!! Guess what, things probably aint gonna change this year or next when Timmy is gone!!! As for the hit itself, it was clean all the way. Could or would it be called illegal in the NFL………probably. As to the Cat fans, they like everybody else celebrated for a good play until they realized the situation could be dire. They are pretty good fans as a whole. FWIW, I’m still a believer we can run the table even if we had to do it with Brantley. For all those bama bandwagoners, weren’t they ranked #1 going inot the SEC championship last year………………with a veteran QB? BTW, Petrino might know offense, but he damn sure aint taught’em how to tackle from what I saw. Hey, didn’t we see that in Atlanta too? I tell ya IT’S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!!!!!!!!!!! I can underrstand why you would not want to state your credentials since it’s more than likely you have none. I really didn’t want to mention mine either but YOU put it on the table with your cute little opening statement. Having actually PLAYED the game some years ago, I realize things happen believe me. Violent things. I played on what was called the “suicide squad” back then as well, aka as kickoff coverage team. I’ve been knocked out. So I’m probably a little more aware of what can happen. All I’m sayin’ is I have seen an increasing use of the helmet in the college game. It got so bad in the League that they started issuing severe fines. We need to protect these young men as much as reasonable. I’m not suggesting that the Kentucky player was being in any way malicious, it’s just that these are young guys who think they, and others, are indestructable and they just need to be taught better on how NOT to use the helmet.
