That game was painful to watch. I’ve been watching GA football for 30 years and I don’t think I have ever seen such a poorly coached GA team. We have so many more athletes than ASU and yet we almost found a way to lose it. What is going on? I love CMR but GA has some serious issues that better be addressed or the fan base will start to erode.

Start of the 4th quarter and I see Ga players dancing on the bleachers on the sideline…score is is 17 to 17….we just gave up 14 posints on turnovers…wtf is going on! What the heck…..would Fla players be dancing on the sideline in the same situation????????A win is a win..yea got ya,,, better than a loss….but I was wishing we could become an sec elite team….I know we won but please someone tell me why I’m so disappointed! We recruit as well as Alabama and Florida…maybe it is the coaching….we almost lose at home to an unranked Pac10 team….please…please…please put it together against…LSU….please someone tell why I feel so disappointed!

I like Richt but you give Nick Saben our athletes and this game wouldn’t be close. I don’t think it’s Richt, but I do think it’s our offensive and defensive coordinators. You’ll see when we play LSU, UT and Florida. I’m not a negative fan/alum. Actually I’m quite the opposite, but saying a win is a win is setting yourself up for failure and mediocrity as ASU was not a good football team and had a third of the athletes we had. If they’d had their kicker, we’d be in OT right now. So saying Richt was not playing is exactly my point. We had superior talent and barely won.

The defense stepped up big time. The offense tried to give it away. The running backs are gutless. Look at how many teams that have never had a top 20 recruiting class that are better than us. COACHING.

guys guys guys. calm down. not every win can be pretty.
Arizona State has great talent on defense. The rain was pouring. We held them to 203 yards. We were whining about not being able to play D…and thats exactly what we did…and now we have to find other ways to complain?
Yeah, we turned it over 4 times! 14 or AZ State’s 17 points were giftwrapped. But, AZ State might be the best defense we have played this year.
We shot ourselves in the foot multiple times during the game, but still found a way to pull out a W. Not every win can be pretty, but great times find ways to win in tough times…and Georgia has had about 2 seasons worth of tough situations in the past 3 weeks…and has come out 3-0!
We should take a big sigh of relief and relax. This team was not expected to do anything this year remember? Cox is looking good. Caleb King is starting to look really good. AJ Green is the best receiver in the country.
And this week our D was solid!
Stop complaining!!

Please take a drink from the reality cup, and complaining about Richt will do nothing. UGA will always be a good team/program, but they will never be a great team and organization. We all know by now that Richt holds no one accountable, doesn’t think all the penalties are a problem, and will never replace a coach. It is what it is, and until Evans or Adams runs Richt, the program has peaked.

David,
I think most posters are True Georgia fans but you have to admit that was poor execution especially down the stretch. We can get 1 yard on three tries! 3 turnovers again (one for a TD). ASU receivers dropped two consecutive passes at the end that would have continued their drive. Our defense did not stop them. I agree that 3-1 is sweet but we can only live on the edge for so long. I think the “luck” runs out next week.
I hope not but we have got to get alot better as a team.

We about gave it away, better game for the Defense but i think we were facing a middle of the conference Pac 10 team. Glad to see Wooten got his first catch. Great game by Houston, Atkins, and Rambo on Defense. How awesome is AJ? Very questionable play calling on offense but i think the weather affected both teams. Will we play a complete game this year on Defense, offense and special teams????If you are not sure what to get Joe Cox for Christmas,,, how about an arm.

Once again, it’s the Martinez/Bobo Comedy Hour. Incompetence extraordinaire. One screws up, and the other has to save the day. Worst set of play calling this season other than Oklahoma State. No sweeps by our running backs and a constant “I’m going to keep trying this until it works” strategy from Mike Bobo. Martinez “Prevent D” still showed it’s ugly face as well although the D played a lot better as I suspected it would. Don’t be fooled, LSU comes to town next week, and they will put up 30+ on Georgia and leave with a win. This Georgia team is just not that good. Explosive and full of potential…just not very good.

as for bobo.. i remember when he was the qb, he made a comment that he didnt know what he was doing out there (that was the season that georgia went 5-6 under donnon)… well he still does not know what he is doing.. fire the idiot

I agree coaching was poor tonite, and coordinating too. Offense and defense. Green saved the game with a fantastic block on that field goal and on a huge catch. The turnovers were of the absurd variety and we still have discipline problems. Thank goodness they squeaked out a W, but it may be a while until the next one.

Updated Numbers: Listed is the percentage of rushing play selection in the SEC. Florida = 64.1% Run(Don’t let the shotgun fool you); Alabama = 62.5% Run; Auburn = 62.2% Run; Tennessee = 58.9% Run; LSU = 57.3% Run; Georgia = 53.2% Run. Former QB Bobo, “Let’s throw the ball.” Former Safety Martinez, “We have to stop the pass.” Former Georgia H.C. Cat Man Do, you’re right on the money. This team is being held back by its coordinators (O and D). We are sloppy and ill-prepared every week, and fail to do the fundamental things (i.e. wrapping up on tackles, holding onto the football, minimizing penalties) well. These are the hallmarks of a poorly-coached team. And, yes, we’re 3-1, but we should be 4-0, and these games should not have been this close. Talent-wise, we’re 10 points better than OSU, two TDs better than South Carolina, and 21-28 points better than Arkansas or ASU, but it doesn’t show on the scoreboard because of poor execution and errant ball-handling.
And Michael, David, jackson et al: just because a Georgia fan posts something negative, that doesn’t make them less of a fan. Being a blind pollyanna about this team is not a virtue. By contrast, it simply means that you are either (a) lacking in perception, or (b) in a state of denial. Neither of those things is something to stick your chest out about. I’ve been a Georgia fan a;ll of my life, and have attended games in Athens for for 30 years. I’m a graduate of the school; my wife, sister and son are all alumni, as well, and my youngest son will be attending Georgia next year. We’ve been season ticket-holders for 15 years. But it’s very frustrating to see teams that we match in talent (Florida, Alabama) surpass us in terms of on-the-field performance. Their programs are simply better than ours right now–and it’s all due to superior coaching. Richt is a great guy, but he needs to make some changes in his coaching staff in the offseason or he will see this subpar coaching staff drag him down–and out–with them.
Two final comments:
1. Hope Tebow’s okay. He’s a Gator, but he has the heart of a lion. I saw that hit and said a prayer for him, and I think that’s the first time I’ve ever prayed for a Gator in my life. God bless him. He’s been great for college football.
2. Alabama is the best team in college football right now. If they keep playing like this, they’ll not only win the SEC West (and they look like a shoo-in right now, after the Rebels were exposed as pretenders we all kinda knew they were this weekend), they’ll win the SECCG and play Texas, or somebody, for all the marbles. Hats off to Nick Saban.

The linebackers for ASU were really good and Joe Cox made some ill advised throws. Otherwise I really thought the D came to play and after they focused in and shut down #31, for ASU, they looked staunch. AJ also scred on the pass inthe endzone, that wasn’t overturned by replay.
Everyone that is saying LSU will blow us out,hey look they barley escaped at MSU yesterday.
We can beat that team, but we have to just take care of the ball and make no stupid penalties.
P.S. I do believe we need a better Defensive Coordinator.

Enter your comments here As a Tech fan, I am so glad that you Dog fans think your defense played so well against ASU. How many open receivers were missed and how many short-armed reception attempts were dropped? The offense you played against had a Quarterback who could not run ( in a spread formation) and threw poorly the entire game. I’m very happy that you think your defense is improving.

A win is the most important however, unless you win out it is NOT the ONLY objective.
Winning and notputting teams away is a symptom that leads to future losses. Penalties, fumbles, poor play calling, interceptions, horrible running game….if you don’t excute, you will lose games and because of it we have already loss one.
Bama and Florida execute and play with accountability and that is why they will play in the Championship. And from the looks of it, it could be for most years. Their coaches accept nothing short of excellence and somehow prepare for it on the practice field. Our coaches make excuses and seem to be doing the same thing in practice they have always done.
Without AJ Green, this team could be 0-4. That is unacceptable.
Bobo, that running game was an embarrasment.

udancewell. No it isn’t. That is exactly my point. 100 years ago when I played ball, if my headcoach saw the guys in civvies and the 3rd stringers dancing behind the benches, the whole team would be doing windsprints and picking themselves off the ground after our butt-kicking. I realize it is a different world, but I think the concept remains the same.

A win is a win and we should enjoy it. Look at who lost yesterday… #5 PSU to an unranked team at home, #18 FSU to an unranked team, #4 Ole Miss to an unranked team we beat, #6 Cal got wiped out by an unranked team, #9 Miami… and LSU should’ve lost. The Gay Nerds even beat #22 UNC fresh off a circle jerk. The point is that a win is a win… enjoy it.

We will find out this Saturday what this team is made of. Who knows, the players may have been looking ahead one game to the LSU Tigers. Not saying that is acceptable, but trust me it happens. Remember folks, we are playing a lot of true freshmen, red shirt freshmen and sophomores who are learning and improving each week. All of the comments on this post about the need to fire Richt is truly a testament to the ignorance of the average football fan! Richt is the best thing to happen to UGA in many years. I HOPE that we are fortunate enough to have Richt as OUR coach for many years to come.

Good win for the Dawgs last night. Although not pretty, we made the plays when we had to. And, I guess many people didn’t see the Cal game, the Penn State loss at home, LSU’s close one (MSU should have won), the Ole Miss game, the FSU game, the Washington game, the egg Miami layed, the UNC offsense not showing, etc. – yesterday was upset Saturday. The key to a good team is finding a way to win.
It seems many on the blog have forgotten – close wins and “eeking” it out, how many of those did we have under Vince Dooley? Go back and look at our performance in the Sugar Bowl – without Hersh – look at the offensive numbers! And remember how we let FLA come back? Its all about the wins. And do you remember the dark days under Goff and Donnan?
CMR is not without faults, but, we could have been in the National title game twice under his watch – 2001 with one loss (but two other teams were unbeaten) and in 2007 when LSU got lucky. He just needs to channel the excitement and spark we had in late 2007 when we caught fire (after a pitiful start) AND have a few players become team leaders – players need to find a way to motivate themselves!
For those overly annointing Saban, did you forget the Sugar Bowl last year – -when he couldn’t coach up his team’s disappointment at not being in the National title game? And the year UGA pounded LSU under Saban’s watch when they were supposed to be a National title team?
It seems Urban has been “forgiven” for all the arrests and discipline problems of his team over the summer – the same thing CMR was pounded for last year. If you watch Florida, they cannot pass the ball – let’s see what happens when they play a real team this year (and Tebow only attends 1 hour of class this year in a layup course – really?).
And, I guess we should fire Damon Evan for not pulling a UF or a Notre Dame and having a cupcake schedule.
Sometimes it IS about the Jimmys and Joes, not the Xs and Os.
So for me, as a big fan, even though I run the gambet of bad emotions during the game – anger, frustration, worry, fear, more anger, outragem etc, I always try to remember the Urk saying that “Dawgs are winners, not whiners” and remember that UGA made famous the “bend but don’t break” style of playing football.
Go Dawgs!

Very well put heeldawg. Anyone who says that ‘a win is a win’ really means that they are willing to accept mediocrity as their standard. TexasDawg – you are right on…that dancing crap after giving up 14 straight points shows how undisciplined and focused this team is…UF or Bama wouldn’t be doing that crap. With CMR and staff, we will continue to be a superbly talented team with average results because we will always be plagued by questionable play calling, poor focus, penalties and turnovers. Coaching is everything in every sport. Look at what Saban and Meyer and Carrol are doing in football. Pat Summit at UT coached up her girls every freaking year. Duke and UNC’s BB dominance was coaching. Yoculan owned the gymnastics world. Coaching makes the difference despite changes in talent from year to year. Keep the trio of CMR/Willie/Bobo if our expectations are to be 2nd or 3rd in the SEC east each year. Make some changes somewhere if we expect more.

Alabama is the best team in the country PERIOD! Georgia’s coaches should take a real hard look at what Saban has done in Tuscaloosa in just three years! If Saban or Meyer was in Athens, Georgia would already have one or more National Championships! Richt is good coach but he just isnt in their class and Georgias coordinators are a joke!!

Funny stuff on here! It was raining during the game, that makes stuff unpredictable. Interceptions happen, turnovers happen. You can’t get rid of players for making occasional mistakes. Joe Cox had a GREAT game last week. Caleb King had a forced turnover but otherwise looked great running. If you want kids on a team to never make mistakes, you will have a team that takes no risks and eventually no team at all. If I were a Georgia player, I would not want to stick around with “fans” like this.
Last week the offense was incredible, this week not so much. It happens. Rain makes an off day for everyone. Georgia still won.

Tombo…thanks for the support! I don’t think Richt should go but….our defense…the numbers/stats don’t lie….Wille is the worst d coordinator in Athens in 20 years….the worst…every year under him our d gets worse…he has to go! Great Leaders surround themselves with a great supporting cast…Bobo is ok at times???? If GA wants to take it to the next level….I mean really turn it up we need to hire the best D and O coordintors out there!

Interesting that you imply that football players aren’t capable of possessing writing skills. You are still referring to yourself as ‘we’, perhaps you have a mouse in your pocket? And, just where in my post did you read that I suggested that Richt be fired? In answer to your questions, I have the same number of NC rings as MR. He is, however, one up on me for SEC rings. I guess that I missed it, but just how many of these rings did you say that you have? My guess is that you are really an Urban Myer fairy princess trolling this Georgia blog.

it is interesting how the uga and SEC arrogant fans have such disrespect for asu that they blame their own team and coaches for a tough game against a great asu defense. They cannot fathom that a non-sec school might have a good team.
How about that fourth down stop? This is an ASU team that is rebuilding under coach erickson and will be a team to really watch for next week.
UGA won, they deserved it, but they need to give ASU some credit here.

Your only ring possibility would be video games. You have never stepped on a football field much less won a championship. We, since you have difficulty understanding the use of the word, refers to the numerous Dawg fans that have to read the trash you spew in words used on this blog. You are so negative that you can’t be a Dawg fan.
You are always whining even when we have a victory from a hard faught battle. You don’t have the understanding of the true physical nature of the game and the sportsmanship associated with that. You disgust All of the Dawg Nation! You are FIRED! Get out!

we are definatly, better than mississippi state and they almost beat LSU so I know without the turnovers we will beat lsu. If we give them the ball and penaties they will score easy points. bulldogs just don’t shoot your self in the foot!!!!!

asu fan,
your team is well coached and he had them ready to play ball… your offensive line got penetration and opened holes for your rb. which is something that georgia did not do.
we do respect your school, you just need to understand that these assistant coaches have been on the hot seat for over a year.

Texas Dawg. A lot of us Dawg fans feel as you do. Excluding the OSU game, the dawgs win by the skin of their teeth no matter what the competition thus far this season while AL, LSU, AU, and FL win convincingly. The dawgs do have talent but the glaring differences between the aforementioned teams and GA is at RB and the OC and DC positions. Bobo has flashes of brilliance but seemingly cannot sustain it week after week. Maybe the rain had something to do w/it but our OL was outplayed by the ASU def. GA did have a TD nullified by the ref’s calling Green out of bounds in the end zone. The replay clearly showed his right foot was in.
All we have is hope that one of these days the D and O both show up for the same game w/o all the t/o’s and penalities. Its hard to get the warm fuzzies that they’ll do that esp next Saturday vs LSU. I think LSU’s a little over rated but the way GA has been winning these close games vs lower tier teams they don’t stand a chance w/LSU unless they -play perfect ball. LSU’s new QB is a lot better than the dude they had last year when we played them and remember GA was close to giving the game away when the def seemed to lose their fire w/the lead we had. Bottom line, when somethings not working its time for change especially w/coaching. New coordinators may be able to get more from the talent we have esp w/CWM.

to all you dweebs out there saying that you have no right to comment on a sorry team even though we love the dawgs unless you have played football that is just plain absurd… It is like saying that you don’t know a skunk stinks unless you are one. i’ve taken quite a few snaps but am no better at knowing 20-17 against a pac10 team except for USC just stinks….

ASU Fan. I don’t think GA folks are disrespecting ASU per say but we expect more based off how we recruit year in and year out. We have top five recruiting classes dang near every year. Let’s put it this way, if ASU recruited top five classes the last 10 years wouldn’t you expect them to compete with USC for the PAC title every year? We true GA fans are disappointed with how we are playing right now! Are we proud of the SEC…hell yes…others can say what they want…SEC is “the” toughest conference in college football last ten years!

Lets face it ,the DAWGS will always be a top 15 to 20 school , however, until Richt gathers the strength to do as other head coaches have done and hire the best defensive and offensive coordinators available and not hire from within or close friends, the chances of reaching the elite level is slim. Saben asked and hired the best assistants available and paid them top dollar and look where they are today in just 3 years. As ethical and loyal as Richt is do you think for one minute he will terminate someone like BOBO with 5 children and his good friend Willie. Saben has told JRS. and SRS. fourth on the depth chart to leave and sent to the new football program at USA in MOBILE to free up scholarships. This why they are the best team in the country and we are not.The irony is are talent is in place, however. our assistants coaches are not.

san francisco dawg you are by far the most ignorant one. 3 and 1 against who we have played is not going to fly against Fla, LSU, or Auburn if Foxsports new power ranking is correct. If you want to settle for Mediocrity with all the great recruiting classes the Dawgs have had more power to you but as for the rest of us we will call them like we see them…….J ust cause your a fan doesn’t mean you have to be a blind one and bury you head in the sand….
