Bama Jack — uh, you obviously didn’t see the two fumbles that costs us 10 points, the INT for TD that cost us 7, the botched snap that cost us 2 and the “gimmick” fake punt that led to a USC score.

Georgia would have DOMINATED the scoreboard in this game but for a whole bunch of silly mistakes by our offense (fumbles, INT) and special teams (our special teams defense also needs some major work on stopping punt/kick returns in the wake of the past two weeks). If we hadn’t made so many silly mistakes, our D wouldn’t have had to be on the field for most of the game and gotten so winded / worn out by the 2nd half.

Overall, great, exciting game – good win for the Dawgs…I don’t think the score is indicative of the D’s performance one bit. My only question – why the heck doesn’t Mike Bobo let Richard Samuel run the ball more? We seemed to abandon the run for a while, just like we did vs. Oklahoma State.

I can’t figure out which side of the ball UGA should be more concerned about. Still, a win is a win. Gonna be a long season, boys.

How bad is our defense–we made no adjustments-we made a marginal qb look like an all-american. USC kept going underneath all night long. Craig James, the commentator, kept saying the underneath is wide open and UGA is doing nothing to fix it–How many games can we give up over 30pts and still win. I hope the demise of CMR is not his loyalty to Willie.

UGA and Carolina are two bad teams with long seasons ahead in in tough conference. NC State still sucks and Oklahome State was an imposter as well. I watched a Houston Couger team dismantle them today. Ohio State lost but they are a good team and will go undefeated the rest of the season and get back to the BCS. They may get blow out as well by a Florida in the title game. No one besides Team Tebow seems to be really set apart from the crowd. And by the way the ACC even won a few games today. Michigan and Notre Dame….what a titannic tilt. Who cares they both suck on D!

A very exciting game that was completely unexpected. Neither defense played particularly well, but I will say Willie’s D got picked apart time-and-time again across the middle. Our secondary continues to look weak and very suspect, and this is against a lower to middle tier SEC team. Egads. Cox looked better and more in control, but I’m still not real impressed overall. He scares the living crap out of me every time he goes back to pass.

what are you talking about? home coookin’? did you not see how many penalties we had that actually hurt us? and i think the general consensus of needing a change at the D coordinator position is deeply needed. we have play makers on D, but a terrible play caller. great job overall by the O line, and an even better job of some good ol’ hard nosed runnin’ by samuel. offense got a B+ / A-. defense and the play calling has got to get better. Good tough win, GO DAWGS!

Considering the defense was on the field all day they played good. They showed alot of heart at the end of the game. The USC and UGA game is always close. The 2 quick scores were great but that had the defense on the field late. The turnovers have got to stop. That gave them at least 10 points. A win is a win. Get OFF the defense coaches back. The playing calling is still bad and the turnovers is why the game was close. Why did we quit running Samuel. The run was working and we got away from it. That is 2 weeks in a row. Boykin is the man!!

This team has more holes in it than anyone can discuss. Gonna be a long, frustrating season. And I don’t see it changing any time soon. There really is not one sure win the rest of the season. We have a wealth of talent physically, but intellectually the coaching staff are dead wood. We the fans haven’t seen a complete game in almost two years. Something has to give (besides the defense.) And the Offense — wow, where to start.

You are right southside, the dawgs get away from running to easily…The long drive after the half was setup by the running game…As far as the defense, you can’t give any team the ball inside your 30 and 10 like that…South Carolina only had one love drive for a touchdown and the rest the were held to field goals…I would rather give up 5 field goals than 5 touchdowns in any game…

I’ll remind everyone that Georgia repeatedly makes bad teams look like world beaters. So far, SC and Okie State.Could anyone believe after watching Carolina against NC State imagine how much they’d score against UGA? These conversations have been going on for several years. Does a trend strike anyone here? UGA has as much, if not more, talent than anyone in the SEC much less the country. That’s where it ends. And don’t give me any BS about 10 win seasons. This team is always capable of so much more and underachieves. It’s gotten predictable and bad.

Keys to improvement:

1. Give the ball to #22

2. Rotate QB’s more often

3. Give the ball to Samuel more

4. Clone Rennie

5. Let Richard carry it more

6. Take play calling away from bobo

7. Stop quitting giving it to #22.

What was up with the time issue at the end of the first half. How can USC ask for a review when they dont have any time outs. Defense looked better than stats show they are only as good as the O will let them be they made them kick fg when they had to. If we quit turning the ball over the defense looks better and we would be 2-0 instead of 1-1 look at how many points off turnovers The defense has gotten better but BOBO has not just that facts look at the play calling nobody goes in motion when the run is working we start throwing it how can u be mad at the defense they were on the field for at least 80 plays like i said earlier a win is a win

I am not impressed with the defensive scheme and think Willie needs to adjust or go. We have the talent on defense. The game day coaching is not good.
I love Bobo but think he needs to stick to the power running game that has worked at the start of both games before we abandoned it for some reason. Joe Cox can run this offense and I like him a lot. We stared in a hole and dug out of it in spite of poor coaching by the defense and questionable play calling by the offense.
By the way, what is the reason for switching return men after a touchdown return?

Does anyone not understand that if you can not get a pass rush out of you DE’s you can not do anything but play Zone and give up the short passes and hope the other team makes mistakes. We do not have any DE;s that can rush the passer. We have to play Zone or get burned deep twenty time per game. Get a clue you wantabe coordinators and get off CWM back. We played Zone, like we had too, and SC gained a lot of yards but made enough mistakes to have to kick 5 field goals. We won with the only game plan we could have used on defense.

Once again – this was supposed to be a “easy” win for UGA – they proved that they are not a top 25 team tonight when they beat (not really) a team that more or less beat themselves. A team that could only score 7 points (and they recovered a fumble at the one-yard line in that game) against a panzi ACC team the prior week. Yes – and UGA only managed a few points against a team last week who gave-up 45 points tonight. So, before all of you fans start crowing (barking) about a “big” win over SC, think about who you just beat – an unranked team that basically beat itsself. UGA proved NOTHING tonight. THat was a game they were SUPPOSED to win.

I was impressed with the progress Joe Cox made from last week until now. Why do we not get the ball into AJ Greens hands. If we do not start using him like the Star he is, he will go Pro like Stafford and Moreno. The defensive coaching staff is really poor and is going to cause this team to fail big time if we cannot make adjustments when needed. The only reason Ga had a chance to win is because SC made so many mistakes that caused big plays to be brought back. Martinez is not getting the job done. A win is still much better than a loss.

I think this puts to rest about Joe Cox’s ability. No not the #1 draft choice but capable to run this offense. What ever that play was Bobo came up with for Gray was the dumbest call for a change of pace I’ve ever seen. The D? Well it has been said enough already. The D backs HAVE to learn to read routes. They were made to look like a high school D backfield tonight. Need more pressure from the D ends. Anyway glad for the win. Couldn’t have faced the blogs this a.m. if we would have blown this one.

No Defense???? They did a pretty darn good job in the red zone, and they were the field 75% of the game. Most importantly, they did what they needed to do to win. Could they be better? Always. Offense and special teams also (fumble, SC nearly broke one, bad snap). Penalties were a problem. Better, but there is still a long way to go. That’s where we, the fans, come in to support these guys.

Agreed chazzo but when you are put on the field for near to 80+ snaps the DC need come up with a better plan than bend-don’t break. That is what kept our D on the field as much as the turnovers and stupid running out of the endzone on kick offs.

1. Our DEs have no idea where the qb is. Just run as far as they can leaving the action behind them.

2. We can’t keep leaving the middle wide open for the other teams receivers.

3. Arm tackling, or just watching, won’t stop anybody.

4. I just can’t understand giving up that many points and Martinez never adjusting the D.

5. Without some changes the good teams coming up will eat us alive. The past two weeks have not been against good teams.

6. Bobo and Willie’s poor use of the talent we have is not acceptable.

7. Have a strong talk with them CMR or they will make you look like Bobby Cox before this season is over.

Ditto with Chazzo’s post and others that saw that the D did pretty good considering. What I did see was not just the DE’s not applying pressure, but a 4 man rush most of the night…few stunts and few blitzes from the secondary. So, the front 4 did pretty good since the pass rush was mostly up to them all night; and they were on the field so long.

You can’t run the ball every play. The opposing D will just stack the line. The final stats show a fairly balanced attack…and 41 points. You can’t throw to AJ more if he aint open. Like CMR said, the red-zone D was pretty dang good.

I am so grateful to be able to come on this forum and learn from some of the greatest sports minds to never be utilized in history. So what you’re saying is we could give up less than 100 yards every game if we just make adjustments? Wow! You are so right! Me and all of the other proffesional coaches in the program never thought of that. It seems so simple and rec. league logic-ish and yet utterly brilliant. So just to be clear… If they are throwing underneath then we put some guys there? If they pass it we try to intercept it? If they are running it then we have to try to line up our defense to stop that? I think I get it but just in case I’m going to keep checking in and try to glean as much free wisdom I can. I’m also going to let the other coaches know what a hotbed of football genius lies just a few short clicks away. Good luck winning that rec-league champioship this year, and with your fantasy football too. Thanks again and keep the brilliance comingEnter your comments here

Defense is still killing us! Why would you play zone with the D Backs 10 yards away from the receiver when it is 3rd and 4 or 5 to go? Why didn’t we jam the receivers at the line of scrimmage? We kept GIVING them easy yardage all night long. We were LUCKY to get away with a win. Martinez has no clue about defense. Why not at least give the man to man coverage a shot? It isn’t like the zone was working and that we would be taking a huge chance! 3 and out = plenty of rest for the Defense. Quit letting the other team drive the ball and you can get back to the sideline for your rest.

DB’s need eyes installed in the back of their helmets. We will be seeing alot of flags if they keep face guarding and remain clueless of where the ball is at.

Shouldn’t coaches improve just as we expect a freshman to improve as he progresses to a senior?

We won the game, but I think we got problems ahead. Our coaching staff said they would play the best players. I am not convinced that JC is the best QB, I think that LC is the better QB right now. JC cannot get out of way of his own shadow. JC is being rewarded for being there for 4yrs, LG can lead this team as well as JC along with all the other +’s tht he just natually has over. JC nice guy love him but he is not the best that we can do at that position.

Defensively; I am looking at the same thing that bugged us last season, I am now convinced that it is a coaching problem. We have what I think is very good player our player is as good as Al and Fl, but they are not being put in situations to utilize there talents, year before last year after we had that bad loss to Tenn and barely got by Vandy CMR took the reins off those kid and responsed, everyone just had fun, even CMR changed he got involved he was very engaging on the sideline doing the game, that what brought on celebration at the Fl-Ga game. Now I am seeing the CMR that’s show no excitment and no fire non-engaging. I just think it makes the players uptight because I think they are this from their HC. Miss tackles out of position on a lot of plays, I see no stunts on the los, watching the GT-CLEM game I saw very good DL play on both teams, now I know our players is just as good as theirs. I drank the cool-aid about what I was hearing about the secondary so why was SC recievers able to get open so easy and we had no one within 5-10yds of them, that to me is typical of CWM zone defense I thought our corners was very good cover guys, they are being put into CWM system of thinking as oppose to reacting and using you athletic how soon have we forgot about 2007 I am seeing our low parts of the 2007 season I wish we would get back to what we were doing whe we went on that run (good run) in 2007 and oh where were ou TE’s where were our FR recievers where were our FB’s remember 2007 we used all of our weapons. We got a coaching problem at UGA and some one is too loyal and too stuborn to do anything about it.

That change of pace QB change late in the game needs to be explained ! That was the worst call by BOBO I’ve just about ever seen! That single call allowed us to give up series allowed SC to gain momentum come down and score some points get totally back into the game for what??? Explain it! it was a momentum killer! It was like “let’s put Gray in just to shut all the complainers up” Again your up by more than two scores run the ball run some clock! The “D’ coaching still sucks we had the same problem last year and it continues as far as Bobo the same stupid play calling this year as last year (even with 1st round draft choices). Very disappointed with the play calling. Glad for the “W” but…it’s going to be along season.

Jacketsfan…you’re so ignorant… did you watch the clemson v. north avenue game? Your defense folded in the second half like we did against you guys last year. Speaking of luck; how about that phantom holding call against Clemson when they were about to score once again to put the game away. Checking AJC once a week when your World of Warcraft session is up does not make you a legitimate football fan.

Greg, I see where you’re coming from. But Gray was put in the game to keep the ball on the zone read and it was wide open but he unfortunately decided to hand the ball off. I’m sure he is aware of that mistake.

Willie Martinez needs to go. That’s all there is to it, and Richt is eventually going to lose his own job if he doesn’t make that happen.

Oh, and Savtl(?) no, Petrino is sucking his thumb and getting his jet ready to leave when he’s down 21-0 at halftime next week. He’s about as low as you can get and Mallet is a USC reject.

I’m a huge TECH fan and it’s hard for me to pull for UGA in anything. But, I’m glad the DAWGS won so it will cool some of the heat on Richt and Cox. Richt is a quality, class guy trying to do a near impossible job, and all the fans want perfection.Cox seems like a good SA that has paid his dues in the system and deserves a chance to show what he can do – when he is not sick.
Another conclusion after watching both Tech and UGA, neither team seems like they are any threat to make it to the BCS at this point in the season. Inconsistent offense by Tech and same ol’ defense ( penalties, lapses , schemes) by UGA. Well, there are lot’s more games left.

You cannot run a cover 2 zone defense against anything other than the spread, and even then you will need great Defensive Ends, which we don’t have or have not been proven. That zone obviously does not work well against a pro style or I formation. Willie played Nickel almost the entire game, put a third linebacker in there. And how about play some man once and while?!!! Bottom line: is it talent on the D side or the coaching, maybe both but I think it always ultimately falls on the coach, sorry Willie, you got change or go…..

Barely survived against an average team. Would be surprised to see them win more than 7 games this season. At this point, they appear to be VERY over-rated.

Gimmick offensive plays and poor officiating help you to defeat a very bad team in South Carolina. They could only score 7 pts. on NC State, the 2nd worse team in the ACC and they ran all over your defense. Your defense made Garcia look like Joe Montana. Oklahoma State proved that they didn’t belong in the top 20 and South Carolina has no chance. You still haven’t beaten anyone. Jacksonville State proved that they are a quality team against Florida State so now you see just how good we really are. Jackets will win the ACC and play in a BCS game.

FIRE WILLIE MARTINEZ NOW!!!!! FIRE HIM TODAY!!!! PULL THE TRIGGER.
62 points in two games … giving up 31 points per game. We can’t
win with his D. Get him outta here. Come on CMR … do it for the
team. Face the facts … we’re terrible. SC scores only 7 points
against a terrible NCS and scores 38 against Georgia. What’s it going
to take for CMR to take some action? I’m disguested … I’m fed up…
I’m ready to give up for the season … we don’t stand a change with
WIllie’s weak D.

Alabama Jack

dawgs would have lost without gimmick plays and home cookin’ from the refs.

Home cookin from the ref’s. You must have been too drunk and had
the TV on the wrong channel, those red jerseys you saw, must have been Ohio St.
Them dude’s were anything but helpful for the Dawg’s.I hope their paychecks are in braille.

It’s terrible when you lose more on penalities than your running backs gain in an entire game. I thought we had worked on penalities. Willie
Martinez can’t adjust and can’t make on the move changes. We’re getting outcoached every game. This is going to cost us four games this year. FIRE WILLIE NOW!!!!

so now you see just how good we really are

If ya’ll so good now why don’t ya’ll have more than one blog a month to post on.
Go find “rate the Nerds performance” and knock yourself out. The only reason you watch the Dawgs
and check these blogs is you know the Dawgs will get better and Nov 28 is coming, along with Georgia
victory number 60 in the series. Don’t go away mad, just go away.

I am a big fan of the Dawgs. This year Dawgs are not impressive at all. They are making a lot of stupid mistakes. Darn, Players can’t hold on to the ball, excessive defensive penalties, false starts, offensive holding, and etc. The defensive backs gave South Carolina wide recievers, a lot of cushion where Garcia was able to complete passes for big plays. In the 2nd half, South Carolina, came out there, and out played the Dawgs. (honestly speaking) All I can say is that they are lucky to get this win yesterday. But if the offense don’t start igniting, the Offensive Line don’t do a better job to protect Joe Cox and the defense continue to rack up penalties, you can kiss the remainder of their season good bye.

At least the defense gave up 5 fgs instead of 7 tds. If any one of those posesessions end up a td, Dawgs lose. Personally, I relished the last 22 seconds when Stevie Boy thought he had the game won. Dangle the win in front of him, and then snatch it from his frowning gator jaws. Priceless!!!

It’s about time for Damon Evans to start considering making a coaching change. It’s very obvious that Mark Richt doesn’t have the ability to coach highly recruited athletes. He has been winning on pure talent alone since Brain Vangorder left the program. Don’t think for 1 minute that we won the SEC in 05 because of good coaching. We won because of DJ Shockley and with Brian Vangorder remaining class. It’s a good thing that we won it that yr because Willie Martinez lackluster coaching was beginning to take root on our talentive athletes.

We need a hc who’s not afraid to demand excellency from his entire coaching staff and his players. A coach who will teach our young men sound fundamental football. One who will call the right plays during games….keep the ball on the ground when it’s working and pass when we need to.

List of coaches we should consider hiring below:

1)Bronco Mendenhall-43 yrs old, went underfeated in the Mountain West Conference twice and won 2 bowls with a 38-13 record at BYU

2)Kyle Whittingham-49 yrs old with a 39-14 record at Utah

3)Jon Gruden-46 yrs old with a 95-81 NFL record and 1 SB victory.

Willie Martinez. What can I say. What a horrible display of defensive efforts. We should have made adjustments after the first or second drive by South Carolina after noticing that the underneath and stupid running back hook outs were as vacant as Martinez’s brain. I mean honestly, when we play Florida, LSU, and maybe even Kentucky they will ABSOLUTLEY destroy us with that. He should have been gone after last years epic fail on defense. Thanks to his good buddy CMR he saved his job because I think noone in their right mind would hire this guy to lead their defense. That performance last night was attrocious. 37 points to a South Carolina team and we made Stephen Garcia look like an All American Quarterback. I don’t know what to get out of this. A good win or just a lucky win. I hope he can turn it around because the offense looked good when they had the chance to step on the field.

Dazed and Confused…is that the name of a movie or the UGA defense. I was completely embarassed watching the UGA defense run around, point, move like they didn’t have a clue. Here we go again making mediocre quarterbacks look good!!! It will be a long season…

It is Mark Richt’s job to put the best players on the field for Georgia to win. I have concerns about the quarterback choice. I know he has been a loyal member of this team, but is he the best player for this team?

One thing I did not miss, that Stafford was good for, was three and outs. South Carolina had too many 8-12 yard gains on first down with those underneath pass routes. Joe cox showed he is a leader. South Carolina came to win this game and they should to well the remained of their season, look for them to knock off Florida. Borkin and Smith looked real good and could play in the backfield in a wishbone setting.

I think it is funny to read all the post from people who want the Georgia still of defense. First, bend but don’t break has been the Georgia defense saying for years and I mean years. Back even to the junkyard days. Second, If CWM took away the short over the middle passes, you folks would be yelling that we gave up the long ball. If you look at what SC defense, which is always one of there strong points, they to gave up a lot of yardage in the middle and under the cover of the safeties. That is not going to change. Georgia did not give up any really long plays in this game.

As the corners get better, we will see more single coverage and less 2 deep. Also, many of you were spoiled by the great defense players of the past. Look how many are playing in the NFL. And most of you, it appears, can’t not tell the difference between a touchdown and a field goal. 19 points of SC points were from offensive mistakes.

In the end, does it really matter how many points you give up. NO. Do you think SC is really excited because they had more yards than we did. NO. Just enjoy the victory and lets start thinking positively about the Arkansas game. So much negativity is not healthy.

Where was Marlon Browwn again, this guy is 6′5′ WR (Bobo) inside the the 20 yard line. Play AJ, Charles Marlon these guys can jump and take the heat off AJ because your other players are not doing it or your QB is not seeing the field. Plus he chokes under pressure and other big potential Dawds see this and will not come because there is no commentment to play incoming freshmen that are better and big playmakers. Manage the game and players that will keep your Job

I think that our Linebackers come up and try to put pressure on the QuarterBack too often. Which in turn opens up a wide open middle of the field for the RunningBacks, TightEnds, and Wideouts to make short catches over the middle. Bring one LB to put pressure but keep two watching the underneath route. Oh. The flat was wide open all night but Garcia didn’t look that way. Easy Touchdown on the 4th Down in the Redzone which the RunningBack could have easily ran in. In my opinion, Joe Cox is doing his best. He’s warming up just fine and soon will become the apparent leader of the Dawgs. Samuel is a hard runner. I agree, Marlon Brown needs to be a factor. If hes not going to Redshirt then put him in the game in Chunk-N-Pray situations. Better to let him get experience and become an elite Wide Reciever of the future with Murray.

Georgia is totally sputtering…They have zero rythym. Defense is not on all cylinders and offense ..Well you would think with the volumes of talent including freshmen they should be hammering ..But they are not. Simply put they are struggling to find cohisivness. Bobo needs to take off the gloves and just throw everything but the kitchen sink. oh what the heck throw it too. Georgias def. coordinator should be let go. Start over. I am not at all impressed. It seems like a repeat of last year already two games in. And it is only going to get tougher.
