Man, you all homers are so negative. CMR has almost an 80% winning percentage and UGA has been one of the most consistent programs the last 10 yrs – even UF had some 4 loss seasons.

I grew up in ATL and everyone still wants to live the great memories Dooley and Herschel and the Junkyard D gave us in the early eighties. Let this season play out and I still think you have a 9-10 win team this year.

The reason the Pac 10 is so bad every year (except USC) is that there is simply too much to do out here and most don’t care so there is not this pent up frustration that the SEC fans have. Don’t get me wrong, I wear my UGA colors everywhere out here, but there is simply more to do.

With that being said, I am heading over to Pebble Beach for a round a golf this weekend. Good luck Dawgs this year.

Settle down everyone. We opened with a Top 10 team on the road in a new stadium. Cox needs to be replaced otherwise the defense played well considering the offense did almost nothing all day.

Plain and simple,, the dawgs stunk today. Cox is not the answer, coaching was non-effective, and did not make teh changes that needed to be made. OSU did not impress me that much. Yes they won, but I think it was just that one of those mediocre teams had to win today.

But please,, someone PLEASE explain to me how that was a personal foul against Georgia that gave OSU the chance to score that touchdown ????? The receiver had touched the ball, the Georgia defender came in and hit him with his shoulder pads, in his chest, not his head,,and they throw a flag ?????? SERIOUSLY ???????????????????????? Like the announcers said,,, if you’re going to throw a flag on that play, you might as well play touch football. That was pathetic !!!!

I’m trying to find something good to hang on to here, but really can’t find much. I’m not ready to toss Cox out with the trash (and anyone that calls a young man “trash” because he didn’t have a good game is just flat out wrong). Cox admittedly didn’t look good, missed way too many receivers, and generally didn’t play like a senior (for instance, not throwing the ball away and getting tackled for a loss). If he can’t ignite the offense next week against the Chickens, it may be time to turn it over to the younger guys. Samuel looks good at times, but I’m still looking for him to break that one tackle for the big run. I’m glad to see the DB’s put some hard hits on the receivers. That last unnecessary roughness call was totally bogus. It was a clean, hard hit, and the zebras need to let football players play football. Still no pass rush, still can’t get a kickoff into the endzone, and we failed to make a single interception even though we had three great opportunities to do so. I hope we lost to a good team today, but I’m not convinced we did. It’s too early to throw in the towel, though. Go Dawgs! Whip the Chickens.

The saddest part is losing by 14 to a team that just didn’t look good at all. I think Martinez took some heat off himself today but Bobo…Why go to the pass in the second quarter when you were manhandling their defensive front? Good luck in the SEC but please, please call a game like that in Atlanta in November. Go Jackets !!!!

Mark, you are in your ninth season at Georgia and each year seem’s to get worse instead of better. Are you unhappy at Georgia or has someone hurt your feelings. Whatever the problem, I think you should think about a new career. Coaching doesn’t seem to be working out for you. Your show no passion, emotion, or anything else that I can see on the sidelines. Other coaches seem to have a plan B in case A does not work out. After today’s game I would get on the bus and forget about us. Most Georgia people want to win a National Championship – some can, some can’t and some never will. Which one do you think you are?

I think we can win some games this year if we get Gray in the rotation and work on dropped balls. The play calling was definitely puzzling to me at times, but I don’t think Bobo is any worse at calling plays than Richt, which is probably why Richt keeps him around. Penalties were a little better. 2 of them were crap anyway, so you can’t really count those. We’re not beating UF this year, but maybe we can pull something out against UT. All is not lost. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

the coaches are horrible. get a big time O coordiantor I am so upset that I can’t even spell. We are absolutely pathetic. This coaching staff does less with more talent than any team in the country. Enough of this good Christan crap. Get a football team that has fight in it and wants to beat the H out of somebody. There is no way we should have lost this game. Where is the killer instinct after that first drive of the game.

Defense was good. Offense was terrible – gave them 14 points. We will not get it done with Cox- weak arm and bad decisions. Give Gray more snaps in the next game and see if he can get the job done, – if not go with Murray. Looks like a very long season.

This wasn’t a typical performance for this team. They are much better ,it was an off night. I was encouraged by the play in the first half. And I stand behind my comments…UGA beats LSU by 14 this year (it’s at home), and they beat Georgia Nerdy Tech by 20 (would be more, but it’s in Atlanta). We should win the rest of our games bar the Florida game…which looks pretty evenly matched…

I can’t understand why we go from the running game and doing well on the first drive to a passing game. Our QB was slow in making decisions and off in his throws. Yes, we did have a few bad calls against us… especially the call on Jones to give them the ball near our goal line. I not going to give up on the team regardless of winning or losing. They are still my team. Our offense needs a new breath and not be so predicable. Yes, I am an arm chair coach, but I have played some ball in my time. You should have been around back in the early 60’s. Alumni 64

This is going to be a long season. How can you expect the Dawgs to do better without their two best offensive weapons from last year. I would have Thomas and Cox carry a football with them the rest of the season since they cannot handle the football. Cox would be a second-stringer till he wins his position back. The Cowboys would have been killed if Stafford and Moreno were still here.

Turnovers and bad playcalling somewhat cost us this game. I really think that the Cowboys had a lot of homecooking. The refs had issues with marking the ball and a roughing the receiver call. I did not think we were there to play touch football.

This was an epic UGA failure from the coaching staff on down. Will be a long, miserable season. CMR- you are a great human being, but your staffing decisions are not what would be considered, “industry best practices”. PLEASE- clean house in your coaching staff! When your players lack talent and your coaches are poor, we can only expect more of the same.

At least Auburn/Chizik went out and got some decent coordinators. Bobo and his play calling need to go. Martinez too..the team doesnt look like a well prepared/ coached team. Ala has surpassed them with Saban..LSU..of course Fla and Ole Miss and Arkansas are not far behind. Look what Tech did in one year with Johnson with no where near the talent. Richt say hello to the hot seat!

Any of you who really thought we would compete this yr don’e really know what’s going on. Very young and inexperienced in too many areas. The ENTIRE coaching staff (cept o line coach/maybe garner) are second tier caliber. I really think it is time to look at some restructuring of the staff. We don’t seem to be prepared in all phases. QB is a problem, RB is a problem, and the OL got manhandled which is a huge concern..but they are also young. Our D looks the same yr after yr with nothing new…OSU was agressive and mixed thiks up…maybe we should copy some of that . Will be a long and frustrating yr like 06….ON a positive note, we have some good young players that seem to be close

Very bad performance by Cox. He looked no better than a freshman with his decision making, panic, lack of looking for the secondary receiver, and on and on…might as well put the freshman in there for that kind of performance. Extremely POOR play calling after that opening drive didn’t help the situation.

Defense actually played decently with most points for OSU coming off of turnovers and poor execution on kicking game (a probleme area apparently for the 4th year in a row…). Defense still needs work on coming up with turnovers but better effort on holding down the penalties at least for this game…Martinez still employing that terrible 3 man rush that puts no pressure on the passer (he never learns…) overall, team badly outcoached as OSU made adjustments and Dawgs collapsed…Team C, coaching F…

tired of UGA they dissapoint every year and this year isnt going to do be different. UGA whines and complains about how hard it is to win national championships if you play in the SEC doesnt seem to be a problem for Alabama 1993 National Champs Tennessee 1998 National Champs LSU and Florida have each one it twice in the last 5 years so apparently its not that hard.

Your marquee team is imploding on national television (VPI).

Their weak sister from Virginia loses today to William and Mary, 26-14. William and F’ing Mary.

Duke loses to Richmond – correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s a I-AA team.

Maryland is in the process of being drubbed by Cal.

Wake loses at home to doormat Baylor.

NC State scores three points to an SEC bottom feeder in South Carolina.

Your conference sucks.

Gotta love CMR as a recruiter, but as a head coach he has a lot to learn; like a HC will go only as far as his players and staff will take him. Hate to give up on him but he must realize a HC in college is like a manager watchin over a staff of supervisors overseeing a production team for quality finished products. No way possible CMR can not see that his staff is the problem in the flow chart, wonder if his hands are tied by UGA politics because this is getting shameful. The D produces no t/o’s and the O always stalls year in year out. Too much niceness is a flaw in CF a coach has to take charge and utilize the players that give the team the best chance to win not ones who appease the alum’s or show the most loyalty. Betta can staff b4 he gets canned

where to start. first of all i’m a dog to the end, but let’s be honest . Joe ain’t gonna cut it. If he’s the best we have then it’s going to be a long season. I did’nt see Samuels break one tackle all day. I’ve never seen a back go down so easy. I know that the Okie back did’nt get a lot of yards but it often took several dawgs to bring him down. Offensive line over rated. Don’t know about the recivers( see Joe). Did the DE’s even make a tackle today. I know they did’nt pressure the qb any. For you people who thought that the defense played ok today then think again. We had them pinned down, what 3 times inside there own 10 yard line and we let them out each and every time. They just lined up and said here we come stop us if you can. Guess what? The db’s played ok for the most part, but sure could have used a couple of them picks that they dropped. Don’t even get me started on the special teams. I really could’nt blame the ko returner for bring the ball out of the endzone, I mean he was least trying to make something happen for gods sake. The offense and defense sure was’nt going to. I’ll be there watching and cheering them on again next week hoping that they get their act together, but I’ve got a really bad feeling about this bunch. CMR if you have an on switch I’d turn it on now.

You consider OSU a “weak” team even though they were ranked #9 and we were ranked #13???

I really thought that UGA fans had more class than to rake our team over the coals over ONE loss. Yes, this more than likely will be a re-building year and if you didn’t know that going into the season then you don’t really follow the in’s-and-out’s of the UGA football program. Use a little common sense. When a team has to replace several MAJOR positions there is going to be some adjustment. And for all you naysayers, I can’t wait to read all the comments following our next victory. Let’s not be like “those” fans who only support their team when they win. Our guys are good and they will get better. And if one loss can “make you lose faith” in Coach Richt, I seriously doubt you had much faith to begin with. Go Dawgs!! Signed, a proud UGA Alum.

Tokyojacket, first why are you posting on the UGA stories. You do realize how pathetic you are right? You celebrate other teams victories over us. This is 2009 so victories in 08 are mean nothing. We played the number 9 team in the nation on the first game of the year in their home stadium, you played a high school team and gave up 20. Your D will fail you, welcome back to were you belong, i will reserve firepauljohnson.com for you. You guys are like the red headed step child of Georgia so you feel the need to comment on the FLAGSHIP University. The North Ave Trade School is a tech school with a great PR department. We all know that college football becomes more of a “business” year after year and head coaches do a lot more than simply coach and recruit. According to Forbes.com, last year Georgia was #2 in the Top 10 Football Revenue Schools for 2007-2008 and in 2007, Georgia ranked #3 in the Most Valuable College Football Teams with a value over $90 million behind Notre Dame at $101 million and Texas at $92 million. We (Coach Richt & team) must be doing something right.
Forbes.com Top 10 Football Revenue Schools for 2007-2008
1. Texas $72.95 million
2. Georgia $67.05 million
3. Florida $66.1 million
4. Ohio State University $65.16 million
5. Notre Dame $59.77 million
6. Auburn $59.67 million
7. Michigan $57.46 million
8. Alabama $57.37 million
9. Penn State $53.76 million
10. Louisiana State University $52.68 million

But let us not forget that we’re talking about kids here – 18-21 year olds, NOT professionally paid athletes. What were you doing at age 19?

If Cox was still feeling the after-effects of the flu then he should have been man enough to say “today’s not my day.” Not making excuses, today we were not the better team. However, it sure would have been nice to open at home against someone like Charleston Southern, SJSU, Akron, Jax State, The Citadel, Fla Atlantic, or Portland State just to name a few. I am proud that we were man enough to schedule a real team for the season opener. Don’t forget that the greater the risk, the greater the reward or in our case today, the greater the loss. Can’t wait for Monday so we can all start talking about “next week’s game.”

Let’s look at the real picture here. The Dawgs have had top recruiting classes for the last umpteen years, but we can’t seem to piece it all together. Today was an embarrassment; but before we hang Joe Cox or any individual player, let’s evaluate our coaching staff for what they showed on the field this Saturday.
ABC was praising CMR for asking for ‘Poise’ from his players. I would have rather seem him asking for some ‘Points, Pass Rush, and Place Kicking into the End Zone’. Most importantly, he should be asking how his offensive and defensive coordinators can have the nerve to take a paycheck for their pitiful performance. It’s like watching a football version of “Dumb and Dumber” and our players damn-well deserve better that that.
CMR, being a good guy only goes so far when you start piling up loses at Georgia. Dawg fans and players deserve more than they are getting. This game drives homes the fact that we need change and we need it now.

Dissapointing is the only way to describe it. After watching a rerun of the 1st drive, why in the world are we not running the ball? This goes to a FL state decision maker and a quarterback calling plays. Samuel looks very good, hits the line with speed and creates yardage when their isn’t an opening. We experience success out of the gate and Bobo keeps sifting through the play book? Where is the logic, the rythem, clock control? I thought our defense looked great against a tough opponent, particularly given the situations they were put in by tuen-overs. Special teams get an “F” asside from Walsh’s long field goal. We’ll be lucky to be .500 at years end vying for a Weedwacker bowl birth if the dogs don’t improve immediately.

This starts with coaching, conditioning, and a simpler approach. Bottome line; EXECUTE on special teams, CONTROL THE CLOCK by running the ball, keep up the D, and get up for next week as we have a long road ahead.

Robert

Bobo was out coached and continues to be game after game. Richt needs to hire an experienced OC who can utilize all the talent they have (and continue to get year after year). Bobo is overmatched. Hate to see what happens when he goes against Papa Kiffin. Martinez needs to go too. Bottom line, time for Richt to make some staff changes.
Cox reminds me of the year Stafford came in and Joe T. was the 5th year Sr getting his opportunity. Took what, 3 games before Richt went to Stafford. Might not be that long before Gray or one of the freshman move Cox to the bench.

Also, did anyboady see the AL/ VA Tech game? We look like a prep league JV team compared to these opponents who seemed bigger, faster, stronger and better conditioned. Not to mention the level of execution, particularly Alabama. Maybe we should run and practice a little more in the summer and have fewer pool parties. It could be a long year.

Same D from last year, no presure on the QB, no sacks. A overhyped Samuel, just touch him and he goes down. A very average O line. Bobo was a big boo boo. Cox is what he is , a back up. Yes UGA will surprise this year to the tune of 6 wins.

UGARules is my kinda fan – always upbeat. Tongue firmly in cheek, but upbeat. I want to politely ask that all the hooting GT fans get back in our yard. Climbing fences and crowing over a UGA loss is not the way to behave. And it can come back to haunt us. It’s 1 game into the season. Who knows, UGARules may be right. Probably not, but it’s better to shrug off and move forward than sit down and cry or tantrum. And it is still only a single game. Both teams better play much better next week or we’ll both be crying and the great state of moons & trees (and does that look ‘Islamic’ to anyone else?) will bite us both.
