Dodgers vs. Braves: Mannywood Mania comes to Hotlanta — or not. Is Manny Ramirez overhyped?

Hip or hype? (AP Photo)

Mannywood: Hip or hype? (AP Photo)

Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has been back from that 50-game suspension for use of performance-enhancing substances for a while now and Los Angeles appears a lock for the NL West division title. Sounds like life is good in Mannywood.

YOU TELL US: If the Braves and Dodgers can sneak in a game or two between downpours this weekend, how will you greet Manny at the Ted? Do you even care about his having been suspended in the first place? Better question — is Dodgers-Braves still the rivalry it once was?

I will be at the Ted Saturday, and he will be greeted with nothing but jeers and boos from me. He cheated us fans, but he could care less as he laughs all the way back to the bank.

The Dodgers and Braves rivalry, to me, still means a lot, but will never be the highlight series of the year again, just for the unbalanced schedule we have now. It is still good, however, to get them in town and relive some of those memories from the pennant chases from the early years. One of my favorite moments in Braves history happened against the Dodgers….Kent Merker’s no-no at Chavez Ravine!

I got a chance to know Manny Ramirez from a distance when he played in Charlotte, NC. None of the allegations against Manny Ramirez really surprise me at all. I would not pay to see Manny Ramirez for any reason. I can’t believe that he is so obviously thumbing his nose at Major League Baseball in his actions and has never played the game with respect for it yet the fans admire him like they do. I’m not focusing my opinion solely on performance enhancing drugs that he has tested positive for using. I am baasing my opinion of him on the way he has played the game. It’s a joke to him.

Unfortunately, I’ll have to follow the series from long distance via television. From my couch, though and if I was there in person, I’d be relatively indifferent to Manny but would boo the heck out of Rafael Furcal. Playing us last winter to get a better offer the Dodgers was shameful!

As a lesson to our children and others who play the game and to finally clean up baseball, all cheaters and dopers should be banned from the game.

I think for a segment of fans born from about 1985-on, the big rivalry is Braves-Mets. I know you’re supposed to hate the Dodgers but it’s more of a secondary rivalry for me.

My brother and I heckled the hell out of the Mets a couple weeks ago. Can’t be there this weekend, but I hope people in the outfield seats destroy Manny during BP.

Me, I don’t care nothing about the Dodgers. Or Manny. Or the Braves. Or this blog. Or this comment. I just want to find me a girl.

The old rivalry with the Dodgers was over with when the Braves were moved to the NL East. The real rivalry now is between ANY NL East Division team — but especially the Mets.

Manny doesn’t mean a thing to me as he’s demonstrated time & time again that he has no desire to play this game with any shred of respect and dignity. I too cannot be at any of the games this weekend in person. But, despite the very busy weekend ahead of me, I’ll be keeping my eye on the series. In fact, until (or if) the Braves are mathematically eliminated, all of their remaining series will be of heightened interest to me. GO, BRAVES!

Honestly I’m debating whether to show up at this weekend’s games. I hate not being in my right field seats taking part in the old rivalry. But I really don’t care to see Manny. I thought he was a joke in Boston and I think less of him now. He’s a prime example of what’s wrong with baseball right now.

At least Manny didn’t commit a felony by running an illegal interstate gambling operation that violated federal while raping, torturing, fighting and killing animals in his “care.”

Otherwise, he would be applauded as a hero done wrong here in Atlanta by “Those People.”

Most MLB fans don’t care about Manny but I’m sure there will be plenty of poser Dodger fans at Turner Field this weekend.. you know the fans that have a closet full of hats that they change out depending on who’s in town.. Cubs, Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc.

No surprise this egomaniac has been found out to be a cheater as well. I hope all those Atlanta-based Red Sox fans are there wearing their now-to-be-understood-as-false-world-series-champs gear.
Time to put an * by their two championships as well as all those records.

I used to have a great deal of respect for Joe Torre. Always seemed to be a hard-nosed, intelligent manager who really had an eye for the game and his players. It seems that once he became a Yankee, he merely became part of the circus.

The Joe Torre I used to admire wouldn’t put up with Manny’s antics and do commercials while holding a surfboard. This Joe Torre seems to only be about being with superbly talented teams who will be good regardless and getting his paycheck.

Manny Ramirez and ESPN’s coverage of such disgusts me. Yunel Escobar cursed an official scorer while on the field. Ramirez was caught cheating this season. Escobar is a pariah on both ESPN and Fox; Ramirez’s minor league at-bats were broadcast. No one on either network condemns him for his actions.

Ramirez is allowed to play lackadaisically on the field. Just “Manny being Manny.” Escobar displays superb baseball savvy, though occasionally he’ll still do something head-scratching. Escobar is a nuisance and disrespectful according to ESPN.

I’m sure Ramirez failed the test in 2003. And I’m sure that it will again be overlooked because Ramirez is a face of both networks.

I’m going to the game with a couple of friends tonight. Hoping it doesn’t rain. I got outfield seats in left-field just so we can yell at Manny. We call him “Whoopi”, and been calling him that ever since he was with Boston when they would play interleague games at the Ted. I’m gonna heckle him until he turns and responds, should be alot of fun.. My friends screamed and yelled at him when he was with Boston, and he responded by throwing them a baseball after the final out in an inning.. I would throw it right back at him.

Kotchman for Laroche? I don’t really understand that one. Please explain this one to me DOB.
We gain what? 7-8 HR per year and lose 20 BA points and just a little defense as LaRoche is decent when he’s awake over there.
Geez, we have to deal with his cavalier attitude and lack of intesity again, UGH.
