Can’t top the way our own Carroll Rogers put it in her game story from Tuesday’s dramatic Braves comeback victory over the visiting Cubs:
“From the throes of being no-hit by Chicago Cubs, the Braves came up with the most remarkable thing — a five-run rally in the late innings, a two-out, two-run game-tying home run by Jeff Francoeur and a win. The Braves used the two runs he drove in to prolong what looked like a loss into a 12th-inning win when Chipper Jones singled in Yunel Escobar for a 6-5 Braves victory.”
YOU TELL US: In a night of thrills at The Ted, what strikes you as the most important move made by the Braves to get the rally going? Or did the Cubs blow it? Share your thoughts on what made Tuesday’s Cubs Comebacker extra special.

I’ve gotta say it’s Anderson going yard in back to back nights. Here’s hoping the outfield can put these rumors to rest with a few solid outings at the plate. Way to go boys!

Now we know how the other teams feel when we give games away to them. I am really surprised we did not win by a Passes Ball or HBP earlier in extra innings.
I had to watch the game on WGN and even their announcers consistently commented on how impatient our hitters are and they kept panning to Terry P.
Could it be that everyone except B Cox and T Pendle understand one of our biggest problems.
Mustard Man did well, especially in the field, this may have been a turn around game for him, could if have anything to do with Jordo’s relocation to a northern suburb?

To all you haters out there I hope enjoy wiping the egg off your face! Way to go Franceour! Good for you! Give this “young” guy some time to figure it all out. He is great in the outfield and his character is what we as parents want our children exposed to. Sports doesn’t always have to be about the numbers because I’d rather lose with good guys then win with bad ones …. example Michael Vick! This one at bat could change the Braves season and Franceours future?

It was entertaining! Bunts, past balls on third strikes, steals and a couple of long balls. It was bad baseball by the Cubs but it was entertaining for an Atlanta fan. BTW- Diaz came through only to die on third.

Great to see just exactly why Frenchy should NOT be thrown away like so many other Braves… Check his numbers when the hits count his average is high… Just leave him alone with Chipper to learn how to hit, lead and be a major leaguer.

Schafer going to Gwinnett: Well I hate to say it, but this simply had to happen at some point, the kid simply wasn’t ready for ML level pitching. I will say this though: his struggles can be also greatly contributed to a one Mr. Terry Pendleton, the WORST and most INNEFECTIVE hitting coach in the Major leagues! Why bobby Cox continues to keep love-buddies around long past their proven ineptness is beyond me.
Heck, we’re sending our batters to the TEXAS RANGERS hitting coach to get remedial instruction! It is a sham. Pendleton must have pictures of Scheurholz with a Shetland pony or something.
Good luck Jordan! Go learn and practice a solid ML level consistent swing and come back soon. There’s no doubt you have the talent to do it.
As for the Walk-off Win v. Cubs: NOTHING is better than to see all those ATLANTA-BASED ATLANTA RESIDENT trader Cub-fans’ face in STUNNED AGONY!
I’ll say this again as it’s a huge problem in Atlanta more than any other naturally transit vibrant American city: IF YOU LIVE, WORK,PLAY AND PLAN TO STAY AND RAISE YOUR FAMILY IN ATLANTA, then YOU need to get on board with the home town team and pack you child-hood fan gear in the attack!
HOme town support should ALWAYS outweigh city of birth or there’s NO HONOR in TAKING the career, money, economic growth, attractive cost of living, great weather, great place to raise a family and all the things that ATlanta provides you, and THEN not support it’s home team as your number 1 team! No one cares about your nastalgia! Get on board HERE, if you plan on making HERE your future.
or go back to Chicago (or NY or whereever the heck your from). Period.

I second the notion that Anderson going yard again impressed me the most. We need someone in that outfield to step up and start hitting consistently and he looks like the one who is going to do it. Let’s not get crazy and dub Francoeur the natural all over again. He hit a home run on a fastball down the middle. He also swung and missed on a fastball down the middle on the pitch before. I need a few more doubles and HRs before I’m convinced he should stay.

Overall, Frenchy did good last night and so did the Braves in general. However, if we are going to be the winners that we can be, the team needs to look not at just the right things they did but also the wrong things that required the Cubs to give them “Gifts”.

Come on you guys… Jeff Francoeur got lucky. In that situation the strategy with two outs in the middle of the ninth, game tying run at the plate, is to swing for the fences. That’s exactly what Frenchy did and he got lucky. He’s a big guy and naturally if he swings like that he’s going to hit a few. Good for us.
This does not turn around the season for the guy nor does should it change our outlook. One hit in a critical situation does not make a season nor does it make a career. I still believe he should be traded or released at the end of the season if he doesn’t come around.
Not to take a damper off the game…
Clearly, the Cubbies BLEW this one. There was mistake after mistake after mistake. Even in the end WHY WERE THEY PITCHING TO CHIPPER JONES!?? They had first base open! While I respect Brian McCann and his hitting prowess, I would not be pitching to one of the greatest hitters of our time if I don’t have to.
Great win by the Braves. While the Cubs blew it, they Bravos still had to come through. While this should not be a strategy or a emotional boost, because they could just as well lose the next 6 games in dramatic fashion, it was nice to see them play good baseball for a change and actually push hard to win a game they had no business winning.

Everyone forget it… I’ve been happy too about this game but let’s think: TRADE. The shot in the arm this team needs is a couple of outfielders who can hit better than our best hitting pitcher. The way this team is constructed right now, we are no better than a .500 club. It’s better than last year but with a little boost, this division can be had.

This is the best win that I have witnessed in years! Way to go team! Hopefully, this can spark a long winning streak.
(P.S.) – Nativebird…you sound like a true Braves fan, but I must critique your argument.
First, look at this sentence…”then YOU need to get on board with the home town team and pack you child-hood fan gear in the attack!”
The word you were looking for is attic, not attack. Those are two completely different words.
Also, look at this: “NOTHING is better than to see all those ATLANTA-BASED ATLANTA RESIDENT trader Cub-fans’ face in STUNNED AGONY!”
If an Atlanta resident roots for the Cubs, then he/she is a traitor…not a trader. A trader is someone that exchanges goods and services.
I’m not trying to be mean, but using the right words will help strengthen your argument next time.

The best part about last night’s win was seeing the team not give up. They were being shutout through seven and down by five but instead of rolling over and quitting they fought back and won. The Braves got the big hits when it counted. They took advantages of a few miscues on the Cubs part (the passed ball) and it paid off. It’s nice to see Frenchy hit that bomb and shut up all the stinking Cubs bandwagoners chanting “Let’s go Cubbies” when there were 2 strikes and he punts the ball out of the stadium to tie the game. The place was actually slightly loud for a change too! The players showed lots of emotion, which is something I haven’t seen from the Braves in a really long time. I think now they are finally tired of being mediocre and are all rallying together to try to bring back dominance to Atlanta! The pieces are there! Let’s just start playing like champions! Go Braves!

I’m happy to see that we pulled it out but Frenchie has got to do it even when the game isn’t on the line. Besides, the Cubs pretty much threw the game away, like someone said. Come on, shut out through 7? And Marmol struggled again with his command or it would have been through 8.
I really would like to see Blanco get into gear and improve on last season’s numbers and fight to keep Schafer’s spot on the roster. Schafer wasn’t ready and I don’t really want to see him rushed back into things here.
Someone needs to be a leadoff hitter and I don’t think it will stay Kelly. Infante was money until the injury and Escobar shows some promise. Blanco might be able to make a case too. But all things being equal, maybe this is the spark to light up the offense. Francoeur had a good night so maybe the monkey finally gets off his back and the rest of the team gets some love too.

Being from Chicago and after living in Atlanta for 17 years (and becoming an avid Braves fan) I have been having to put up with my old homies consistent chatter about the Cubs for years. I was sitting with a group of Cub fans who were chanting and cheering and downing the Braves, Atlanta, and the South for seven innings. So to me the best part of last night’s game was seeing the egg on the faces of all the Cubbie fans at the all park when Francour hit his homer in the ninth and the utter shock when Chipper knocked in the winning run. Oh, that was sooooo sweet. I pull for the Brave every game but I pull for them extra hard when they play the Cubs. Go Graves.

Boy, talk about selective sampling by the Frenchy lovers! He finally works the count for a change and gets a 2-1, belt-high, BP fastball and does what every Major Leaguer should do with it and the Frenchy lovers want to ignore the other 800 at bats over the last two years. The guy has a ton of talent but he will revert to the free swinging hack he is come tomorrow. The Majors is not the place for him to work his demons out. He is still killing the team and one at bat does not change that fact…

If i told you before the season Frenchy will hit .250 20 homers and drive in 90 runs i think most of you would have taken it. Well he is off to slow start and is on pace to hit just over .250 hit about 14 homers and drive in 80 runs. Not far off, he needs a couple good at bats and he’ll be an pace. Frenchy isn’t our problem, we need some production out of center field and GA seems to be turning the corner, add a bat and we’ll be in this for the long haul!!

Frenchy’s AB was a real thing of beauty. Laid off the bad pitches, took good, committed cuts at the good ones. Whiffed on one, and i think we’re still waiting on the other one to land. Great job Jeff. Those are exactly the kind of AB’s it’s gonna take to right the ship. Jeff made them pitch to him, and it paid off. Granted that’s an every day type of approach for guys like Chipper Jones, and you can see the patience chiseled on that emotionless mug of Garrett Anderson, but for Frenchy it was a welcome approach to what has been a long run of instability at the plate. Let’s hope he can adopt that kind of dangerous approach full time, and he’ll grow right out of that ‘Frenchy’ moniker and we can all start calling him ‘Mr. French.’ But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… we’ll keep it with this: he looked dialed in up there for a change, and yes, after just that one AB I personally think we should keep him around and see if he can’t get more AB’s like this one. This one AB changed my whole opinion of the kid. There, I said it.

The issue with Frenchy:
*The potential is clearly there — as he showed last night at bat and in the field.
*Trading him to “get rid of him” is crazy.
*The Braves should only trade him if they can get a better replacement. Who’s that? Not DeRosa.
*Now Centerfield, that’s a real problem. That needs a solution more than the Frenchy issue. He might turn it around some. Blanco? There’s not much there. We’ll have to do something about cf. Let’s concentrate on that.

The 1995 World Championship seems SOOOOOOOOOOO long ago. And now, 3 years out of the playoffs seems like an eternity!
To me any thing other than a World Championship is meaningless. If only the Braves Front office could see that
Winning a Championship is what it is all about and not just having a major league team with 25 Baseball players on a roster.
I want them to make some move to get us ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP – Not just having a winning record or a “good year”!

It’s just 1 win but it sure felt good. Haven’t seen a dramatic comeback by this team in quite awhile.
We still have issues on offense however and I hate to see decent pitching wasted so often. If Francouer can return to his April form and we get Kotchman back in the lineup soon, we might have just enough to make a run at the division.
By the way, lots of love for Frenchie but what about Chipper? He broke up the no hitter which got the bats going and singled in the winning run. He’s a legit all-star and should be getting more votes, along with McCann.

Nativebird, I am 100% with you on the hometown issue. I don’t understand how people can move to a city, work here, raise their family here, etc and then openly root against the home team. I grew up near Philly but have been living here for almost 17 years and there’s no way I’d pull for the Phillies, Eagles, or any other Philly team over my current home town teams. Atlanta is my home now and hopefully will be for the rest of my life. So why not embrace the teams that represent our home city? Wish more transplants felt that way.

As a Cubs fan who has lived in the Atanta area for about 15 years, this was very frustrating to watch. I was very dissapointed when the Cubs did not resign Kerry Wood and have watched the Cubs bullpen melt down like this with an assist from key defensive mistakes all season when they are on TV. Milton Bradley limped off early. Why the Cubs would trade DeRo to make room for this guy I cannot understand either.
Chicago Transplant-You must be from the South side.
Native Bird–Who the heck are you to tell people who they should cheer for? Native fans from Atlanta had a great team every year from 1990 to just a couple of years ago, yet even people born and raised here did not come out in many numbers to support the team the last few years of that dynasty. You had empty seats for the playoffs! Meanwhile you would see many native Chicagoans who now live here coming in mumbers for a Cubs team that has broke our hearts for years, and years, and years. Many of us are sons and grandsons of card carrying Die Hard Cubs fans and continue to support them just hoping to see the Cubs get to the Series once in our lifetimes. Yes, there are undoubtedly some bandwagon Cubs fans due to the bit of success the team had the last couple of years, but many of us have been fans all of our lives and ain’t changing no matter what. Don’t you tell us who to root for.
Finally, if the Cubs had to go down largely by giving the game away in the last two innings last night, I have to say it is nice to see Franceour come through in a key situation. I have followed him since High School and I also follow many of the other local kids from the Atlanta area the Braves and other teams have drafted and like to see them do well. You all should give the kid a break. He has struggled alot, but they also brought him up very quickly and I think he is paying a price for that. If he figures it out, he has an incredible amount of talent and could become a great player still.

I was sitting in left field, about 6 rows up. I was over excited when the Braves finally got their first hit, and put my rally cap on. Alfonso Soriano, after the Braves were left with two out, acted like HE was wearing a rally cap, then pointed at me, and did the “IN YA FACE”. So what did I do in the Bottom of the 9th? DID IT RIGHT BACK AT HIM!! We had about 3 or 4 Trashtalking signals back and forth from the 8th to the 12th, it was AWESOME. Anyone else sitting in left field last night pulling for the Braves, GREAT JOB, we definately made for an entertaining game.

Great win last night. We kept grinding and played good baseball late moving base runners and being a little patient in counts in extras the only complaint I have is Garret Anderson’s hustle. He dosent seem to run all that hard in the outfield and cost a run with that lazy throw missing Escobar with the really to the plate. He just lobbed it in it looked like. Then again in the 9th he struk out and was walking bak to the dugout not evening paying attention thank god for bobby yelling to get down the line. The guy can hit for sure but why not trade him and Jo-Jo for a power bat. He would definatly get more return then frenchy and some one that has a little more hustle out the box and in the field

I love it that we won! But they took what the Cubs gave them. Any professional baseball team should be able to do such. It concerns me the only way the Braves can win a game at home is the utter meltdown of the opposing team. They had almost had a no hitter on them until the 7th. Do you know how obnoxious Cubs fans would be?
And lets not get excited about Frenchy’s homer. Fastball, belt high and over the middle of the plate! Trade him now while he looks good!

this is an easy easy question…..with out a doubt its the french man taking it deep! it gave me chills in my living room and i was jumping up and down up and down in jubilation! and then i watched the replay a 100 times and a bunch this morning and i notice when frenchy is rounding the basepads that these two fans or two doucebags who look like they just got out of a fraternity meeting are just standing there with no facial expressions whatsoever and they are library clapping almost. it was like it was no big deal. again, im in my living room freaking out and if i was at the game i could have been arrested for storming the field…. i guess some people just go to the games because “its the cool thing to do”? i dont know, maybe i care too much and its only the first game in june but i thought that homer was hands down the best braves moment in the last few years…

I’m glad someone else said it first. “I’d rather lose with good guys than win with the bad ones” I couldn’t agree more. Life is not all about winning and neither should baseball be. It’s a game where men hit a ball with a stick. Either you’re a Braves fan or you’re not. Francouer is a home-grown talent that would rather be a Brave than anything else and in my book that should stand for something. I’m sick to death of so-called fans that bad mouth their home-town team when they get down. If you’re not willing to stick with them and ride out the bad times then you shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy the good ones, in my opinion.

The most exciting part of the game for me was when that idiot manager pulled the Cubs starting pitcher after 1 hit and 83 pitches. You don’t pull a guy throwing a shutout because your first baseman drops the ball.

Why do people refer to critics as “haters”? I could give a dissertation on this one, “j…”, but to be short, there’s nothing wrong with being critical of someone who isn’t stepping it up. People unfortunately are quick to think any kind of “negative” statement is somehow wrong, which is pretty ignorant.
As for the topic, I didn’t catch the entirety of the game, but I’d have to go with Garret Anderson’s homer, though you could make a strong case for Chipper’s breaking up the no-hitter.
I still say Francoeur needs to bat cleanup and that Kelly needs to bat eighth. I’d like to see him and Gregor Blanco trade places in the lineup.
The Braves had better not rush the Blanco-Schafer switch. Blanco proved last year that he belongs here. Schafer has not proved yet that he belongs here except defensively. Many say Schafer clearly has the better upside, but wasn’t Blanco the best player in Venezuela? I’m not ready to dismiss Blanco’s credentials. He also fills the leadoff role and is the only natural leadoff hitter on the 40-man roster.
Bobby sometimes will try Plan A excessively but then give Plan B a handful of chances, one of the few strikes against him.
I wouldn’t make any trades; we have the personnel but need to do better with chemistry. We’ve been guilty of having more total acids than total bases, haha.
Great camera shots last night and probably the best crowd in some time. This point might seem trivial, but when fans are encouraging a hitter who’s ahead in the count, it’s better to have raw noise than to have everyone doing the war chant. The acoustics individual shouldn’t have encouraged the latter by turning that particular piece on at that time. Horrible decision.

One of the best games I’ve seen in a while. Hard to believe that it’s been nearly TWO years since the team has had this kind of comeback. I certainly hope it’s a reflection of the season to come. They sure deserve a positive, rebuilding season. Good to see Jeff come through for the team to tie it up. I hope this helps him as well.

Bobby sending Escobar on a 2-2 count.
And not only did Frenchy have the big HR but his first major league sacrifice bunt.
The Braves played small ball – get em on, get em over and get em in
Maybe the haters will layoff of Franceour now. Give the kid a break.
If you want to complain; what about Garrett Anderson and his lack of hustle – he looks bored and as unhappy to be here as Kenny Lofton used to look. And Lofton didnt have a choice, he was traded. Anderson chose to come here

Here’s a question Braves fans: what team do we hate the most?
I think it’s starting to be Chicago.
Yes, we don’t like Mets and Phillies, and we don’t like Yankees and Red Sox either (although most probably at least respect ‘em).
Is Atlanta developing a true rivalry with Chicago?
Is there a worse bunch of sore losers who haven’t won anything, but think they have?

Be nice if they played with that emotion more than once every 2 weeks. Frenchy gets one big hit and everyone goes crazy. Tonight he will still hit to 3rd with a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs. Go figure.

I am expecting a bench clearing brawl tonight or tomarrow due to the pitching last night and recent past from the Cubs.
If it happens, I want the Bravos to man up, kick them hard, and set a standard for the TED.

Got to say its good to see the Braves come back for once. Frenchy looked good. He hits the game tying homerun in the bottom of the ninth and comes back in the extra innings and lays down the sac bunt. Hopefully He can feed off this from an individual standpoint and the Braves can as a team.
Looks as the maybe Anderson is starting to get things going.

It was wonderful to see. Also Chipper running from Kelly and Jeff was funny to watch too.
Now for all you Francoeur haters, he took the time to hit over 400 balls when he was left out of the lineup. Then he took the next day off and he is looking for his swing. He is one hard worker and will find his way back. Lay off.

Along with the homer, Jeff really made some outstanding plays in right field. No matter what, he still has the best outfield arm in all of baseball.
I’m pissed at Martin and Brian for not getting on base in the 9th. That should have been a game winner. I guess what I’m getting at is that the biggest move of the night was Lou bringing Kevin Gregg into the game. I love that guy. He’s terrible.
I was praying for him to come in in the 9th and I knew Jeff was going to do something big.
Also, the bullpen was absolutely the best it’s been all year with the exception of Acosta giving up that homer.
We finally got some breaks but we also took advantage and what better team to beat in a game like that. I hate the Cubs and their fans with every fiber of my being.

Just one word for you baseball geniuses. Quite a few have said that JF’s home run was “luck” or not a big deal since it was a fastball down the middle. Do you people know anything about the game? All home runs are hit on pitcher’s mistakes: whether bad location of a fastball, change-up or poor curveball or slider, they are all mistakes. If major league pitchers make good pitches they don’t give up home runs on those pitches. So, the Cubs pitcher made a location mistake, and a major league hitter hit a home run. That is how it works.

braves phanatic….I TOTALLY saw those two douchebags giving the ol’ polite clap while I was jumping up and down like it was 1995, and I thought the same thing. I’d rather these douchebags not come to games, or take out whatever is in the arses.

Regarding Franceour-I’m an older guy and even I could hit a homer by accident if I swung the bat at the right time, with the right speed of the pitcher. He remains an immature boy who needs to learn a little humility-not to mention how to hit better. Get rid of him along with TP.

One more thing: Does anyone else DETEST Chip Caray? He about soiled his trousers when Derek Lee made a good play to save a run. This clown is a Cubs fan through & through.. which is understandable, given his grandpa. However, just because Skip is his dad doesn’t mean he get an automatic seat in the booth. He’s terrible! Let’s go ahead and bring up Josh Caray if we must have one of Skip’s kids in the booth. At least he is a Braves fan!

Bob Horner– I also do not like chip caray so much for the annoyance factor, and I dont like Boog for the ineptness factor. I feel like Boog and Simpson bring out the dumbasses in each other. It’s too bad because I think Simpson is Ok. But it was always Pete and Skip that were the most interesting. Hate to say it, but I think the Mets and Phillies announcers are great…knowledgeable, fair, and not overly homer

I was most impressed by Francouer bunting to move the runner over after he already hit a home run. How about Anderson just standing around after stiking out, he was very lucky to make it to first….game is over if he decides to stand around any longer…..he needs to screw his head on tighter…be more alert Garrett!!!
Yunel….that was a bit much, but whatever it takes!
Amazing game….Cubs fans are complete babies – they were acting like they weren’t mediocre last night – they are not even over .500!

I left mid 8th down 5-0. It’s 70 miles home and I gotta work. Before I get in my car it’s 5-3 and before I reach Cobb County it’s tied. Still no regrets. It was a gift from the Cubbies that we’ll gladly accept. Would take another today!

I certainly agree that Schafer should go down to work on his hitting but I missed the part where Blanco showed he belonged here last season. I thought he was terrible. Jeff’s problem is in his head and ego.
Then we have all the people here who want to criticize TP. Probably most have never played past little league where you listened to your coaches. Professional players do what they want to do. Coaches may try to help them but if they aren’t willing to accept the coaching and do what he says, what can a coach do about it?? See Andrew and Frenchy. For a pitcher see also Jasom Marquis. The coaches can’t swing for them or pitch for them. Success or failure is on the players, not the coaches.

Look… I hate to be Debbie Downer but I remember a few of these wins last year and thinking it could be what turns us around. Never happened. Win 6 or 7 games this homestand and start hitting consistently then I might buy into this team. One come from behind win proves nothing to me. Ya got me last season with those.

at-bbats at home. What a JOKE!! 3 homers in 267 at bats. That over one-half a season. He needs to go!
