Michael Vick’s release from prison approved

Imprisoned Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick has been approved for release to home confinement and could be released to his Virginia home as early as May 21.

Now the questions regarding his football career come into play? Will NFL commissioner Roger Goddell reinstate him to the league? If he’s reinstated, will he play in 2009? And will the Falcons, who have said they are interested in trading his rights, get fair compensation for the former No. 1 overall pick?

Let us know what you think. Please keep the comments civil or this blog will be turned off immediately.

Vick should be banned from the NFL for life. He’s nothing but a lying thug, and a very poor example to the young football fans who idolize players. Use him as an example to the other punk players. You screw up, you’re gone. Noone wants him anyway, because they fear bad publicity, and the presence of PETA at all their events. Live like a punk, and be treated like a punk.

DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE PAPERS – WHY DO YOU THINK TAMPA & CAROLINA IS CLEARING THEIR PAYROLLS?

PAYBACK IS A MUTHA! IF THE FALCONS DON’T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS IN 2009 – YOU THOUGHT THE LA RIOTS WAS SOMETHING, WATCH AND SEE HOW THIS TOWN TURNS ON RYAN LEAF.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on a misdemeanor marijuana charge stemming from an October traffic stop.

Pittsburgh police say they found three marijuana-filled cigars in Holmes’ vehicle when he was pulled over Oct. 23. Police say they stopped Holmes because his vehicle was similar to one they were looking for in a drug sting.

ANYONE SURPRISED??????? Why are black athletes ALWAYS the ones in trouble? At least 99% of the time that is.

Alan, you are very arrogent. I am a white man & I support Mike Vick! It has nothing to do with skin color. The fact is, when/if he gets re-instated, he will have paid more for his debt than any of us would have! He lost everthing and can’t go anywhere to start a new life and put this behind him because he is known everywhere. He deserves a chance to prove wether or not he has changed!

Thanks Net, I wish the rest of the bloggers could realize that. None of us are getting paid to debate or discuss the outcome of Vick’s future, only expressing our opinion – which has no value when it comes down to Vick’s NFL career.

The pathetic Vick Supporters were born and raised without a father. For work, they steal, sell drugs, and kill their fellow “brothas.” I feel sorry for you pathetic losers. It must suck to live in SW or SE Atlanta hearing guns being shot daily. No worries though, you will also end up in jail in no time.

Obviously it is his fault that he made those choices & no if he did something to a member of my family, which would be a human, then i would feel differently, but he didn’t harm human life. Dogs aren’t innocent anyway, everyone knows the breeds used for fighting are viscious by nature.

The people worse than Vick, Madoff, and others y’all mentioned are still walking free. Mr. Hope and Change Himself, Pelosi, Reid, GWB and the rest are robbing us blind and sentencing you kids and grandkids to pay off their misdeeds. Vick’s a scumbag but he’s a small time criminal compared to the real crooks in Washington.

Vick Supporters Background, you don’t know what the crap you are talking about, the man went to jail, lost everything, so what you are saying he should put to death without a second chance right? I guess it’s alright if it’s a white collar crime where someone only steals peoples life savings? For your information I’m a vick supporter that lives in Loganville and the only thing I hear is peace and quiet, and another thing I was raised by my mother and father :0

let a dog rip into your arm for no reason like my friend’s doberman did to me and then see who you feel more sorry for, an animal or a human you didn’t have good morals instilled in him growing up? The nature of the crimes was horrible, but the victims could’ve been worse and if he repents and changes, he should be forgiven

I don’t have dogs, because I have 3 kids to worry about raising, so they don’t grow up and make horribly wrong decisions like Vick did, but if they do, it won’t be because Vick was allowed to play football again

Don’t know about the rest of you, but I couldn’t just waltz back to my job after being convicted by the Feds. Could you? Face it people, he’s a convicted felon, even though he did his time. It doesn’t matter that he can throw a football…it is what it is!

Let him play all he wants – without protective gear. And, as a blocker.
Dog killer, dog fighter, convicted felon, perjurer, drug user, money launderer… what a role model. May he may live out his life to the best that he can – but without the privilege of playing for millions in the NFL.
You have to be one damaged person to stage dog fights. I don’t care how ‘young’ he was!

Vick will watch, from the last house he owns, as his life continues in a downward spiral. He will be suspended. And he’ll get frustrated, unable to play and with the press/public watching his every move. His financial situation will deteriorate even more. He will have to deal with legal issues regarding his finances, maybe he has to go back to court a few times, more bad press. In 2010 (if no lifetime suspension): Vick is another year older. Even a bigger risk, hasn’t played since 2006, a PR nightmare… I wonder if any team in the league will REALLY take that risk. And nobody wants him as a spokesperson, he’s like the plague. Man, he’s in this funk for good, which will probably lead him back down the wrong paths in terms of his behavior. He has lost. He can watch the drama play out. People are not going to budge for him – Vick’s so coldblooded, they will not forget it.

jd, I think that if a person gets drunk on their on, gets in their car and drive knowing that it is illegal, gets in an accident and someone dies, or even if someone doesn’t die, they do time, and they get a second chance in society.
This happens everyday, still not an outcry like what is happening to Vick. he deserves a second chance no matter what.

Concerned: i totally disagree with you. and as for the role model thing, i have two boys also and if i’m not mistaking its MY job to be a good role model for them not some celebrity. thats whats wrong with people, they are to busy running their own lives and not taking the the proper time out to raise their own children but are willing to let television do it and as soon as something goes wrong they want to blame the person on t.v. for putting out a bad image when it should be you yourself that you look at and ask what kind of examples have YOU been setting not the person on t.v. with all the fame and money.

and i totally agree with gdg73 on the whole martha stewart thing. she is an convicted felon and went right back into her cushy life-style and everyone is okay with that. i haven’t heard anything about her since she got out. but everyone wants to drag this with MV out like he commited a mass murder or something against HUMAN BEINGS!! they were animals. the same kind of animals that have killed over how many small children per year???!!! but i guess thats not important either huh?? and if he was peyton manning or some other white NFL star i bet it wouldn’t be this serious. take a good look at yourself america!!

There is still this small matter Roger Goodell has to deal with: Michael Vick organized and bankrolled an illegal gambling enterprise. There are clear NFL policies regarding this that the commissioner cannot ignore. True, MV has served his time, but he has yet to answer to NFL policy regarding gambling. It will be very interesting to see how this pans out, but I doubt MV will be playing in 2009. I hope the Falcons can get something for him; if not, they should keep him around to clean up the locker room until his contract expires.

Vick will play football in 2009, it’s a matter of where, the CFL or the NFL, there is nothing stopping Vick from going to Canada to play football. maybe probation but if he gets that worked out he can play in Canada for a year to work on getting in shape and come back in 2010. I don’t think the NFL qould want to risk him playing somewhere else.

This message is intended for Winston Wolf and others who share that point of view. Michael Vick should have the opportunity to continue doing what he does best, football. imagine that you were Mike Vick and just served two years in prison, wouldn’t you want to show everyone that you have changed? Don’t be quick to judge if you’re not ready to be judged. He owes you nor me anything, but he owes his kids and himself a a second chance. The person that should be a role model to your kids, my kids, or anyone else for that matter, should be the parents first. Set the example at home first and I guarantee you your kids will be fine. If you don’t, well, you get the picture.

Vick did his time. He deserves another shot.

That said, I can’t wait till the Falcons cut him so this can stop being Falcons news. I’d rather read about the draft.

Vick Supporter is right, Vick deserves another shot. VS2 is crazy. Falcons did nothing to betray Vick. Time for a parting of ways.

I believe in second chances. With Prison Time, Mr. Vick paid his debt to society. However, the NFL, is a separate entity and has every right to decide their own punishment. Unfortunately, Mr. Vick will have to live the rest of his life in the court of the public opinion. This is why Athletes, should get their education, to have something to fall back on…Because, fault or no fault of your own…Your livelihood could be take away, in this state of the world, you must have something to fall back on.

IF you are telling the truth, you are the exception and you know it. EVERY SINGLE NIGHT on the news, they talk about a shooting or other crime in either SE or SW Atlanta and you know it. I live in East Cobb. It’s amazing how I never hear about major crime or shootings up here. All most of you people do is ruin things. Look at the city of Atlanta, Buckhead, Clayton County, etc.

Dogfighting, not stealing or raping or killing, or gambling on football. Dogfighting got him into all this. The local prisons are not filled with this kind of “criminal” for a reason, and it is not because there is not a lot of dogfighting that goes on. I am willing to bet he is the least convicted crime listed in a federal prison, I mean drugs is number one, maybe tax evasion, embezzlement, bank robbery, murder, only three known cases of convicted dogfighting. Why is that and why Vick. I think we all know why. On the playing side, a little clearer reporting on the actual release would help. If he is on home confinement, the same as Madoff, he is not going to be playing football. Five minutes of homework by the reporter could uncover how long he is on home confinement and not able to play football. The NFL will let him in as soon as the feds leave the building. Why the secret haven’t you made enough with this guy? Dogfighting!

As soon as Vick is traded I will be purchasing the first NFL jersey team that picks him up. For the people who state that he shouldn’t and that no one else would get the opportunity that he has because he is a convicted felon, actually no one else was the highest paid athlete in the NFL, not one else, has lost all the millions, respect, and fans he has. He has paid enough, give it a rest. I find it funny how everyone in GA is so sickened by what he did, yet it’s okay for you to hunt and kill deer, and whatever wildlife is out there. Give it a rest, He who is without sin cast the first stone. NOW SIT DOWN and SHUTUP!

This is 2009 and we as Americans are still caught up in the “race” issue. First of all, this is still the United States of America. All people convicted of a crime, once released, are allowed to matriculate back into “society.” Mr. Vick would have served his time and should and will be afforded an opportunity to get on with his life, whether it be football or some other endeavor. May the Lord bless him. Secondly, there is so much racial undertone in some of these comments that it is hard to believe this is America. As one commentor stated earlier, with all the economic woes this country is encountering now, some of you are still hot under the collar about Mr. Vick. Major banks and companies and individuals have cheated and scammed honest hardworking people in this country which in turn has caused many to lose jobs and homes, and you all are concerned about a convicted “dog killer.” Get a grip on reality folks. This country is in dire straits right now. If Mr. Vick does or doesn’t make it back to the NFL, so be it. There are many other convicted folks that have made it back to society as stated earlier. Lastly, the racial gap and insensitivity that still prevails and perserveres in this country is unbelievable. Maybe one day… GO BRAVES, FALCONS AND HAWKS!!!
