ESPN blogger puts UGA football on early upset alert

In a recent ESPN.com chat, SEC blogger Chris Low released an early upset pick — Arkansas over Georgia in Week 3.

UGA quarterback Joe Cox will likely be making his first SEC road start, when Georgia visits Bobby Petrino and Arkansas on Sept. 19 in Fayetteville.

If the Bulldogs get off to a tough start—they open at Oklahoma State (Sept. 5) and host South Carolina (Sept. 12)—losing to Arkansas might not even be considered an upset.

Low gave Georgia props for playing such a difficult non-conference schedule and discussed the Dogs’ need for a “defensive finisher.” You can read the entire transcript here.

With home games against Arizona State and Tennessee Tech and a season-finale at Georgia Tech in addition to the trip to Oklahoma State, is this UGA’s toughest non-conference slate ever?

If not, what year was? And what do you think about Low’s prediction of Arkansas beating the Dogs?

Side note: The odds to win the 2010 BCS National Championship are out.
Georgia is 50-to-1. Georgia Tech is 75-1, and Florida is the favorite at 7-2.
Other notables:
Alabama: 25-1
Arkansas: 200-1
Auburn: 200-1
LSU: 20-1
Tennessee: 100-1

Chris Low is a clear cut Vol homer. More than half of his entries are some way to make Tennessee relevant, the majority of which deal with Kiffin diatribes. It’s a shame that ESPN, with all that money, can only get this Low clown to cover their SEC blog. I think we deserve better than this walking bag of doughnuts.

I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Joe Cox has already started an away game. I believe it was against Ole Miss in Oxford back in back in 2006.

I’ve lost all belief that Petrino has the ability to coach well after the Falcon Fiasco……but I see the Dawgs rolling in Fayetteville 28-10.

I think ALOT of people are going to be surprised with Joe Cox. he is a LEADER who the players will respond to and will lift their game accordingly and UGA will find a pass rusher. I will go out on a limb and say UGA will have a better record next year.

Greg, you are correct. Joe Cox, who led UGA back against The Buffs of Colorado the previous week, got the start in the late ESPN2 game at Oxford.

Greg, maybe you can proof read factual notes for SEC specialist, Mr. Low.

Arkansas will be better than they were last year, but I don’t think they can beat UGA. Richt is awesome on the road. UGA will have a better defense next season & the offense will get things done in a workman-like fashion with Cox back there. He won’t be flashy, he won’t be a superstar, but he will get the job done…..and will be more Greene-like than Stafford-like, which means he won’t throw a pick a game on the average.

Let me be the first to go on record here: if the absolute worst happens, and the Bulldogs go 1-11, please, please, please let that one win be against Arkansas!

The comments about Low are spot-on. The guy is a Vols homer but much worse than that, his “facts” are very frequently wrong in some way. For example, back in August during preseason practice after Sturdivant had gone down for the season, Chip who was in Athens daily covering the Dawgs extremely well reported accurately who had been settled on as the replacement left tackle, I think it was Kiante Tripp, but I may be remembering wrong on that. Then I went out at lunchtime the same day to see idiot Chris Low’s blog and he was reporting someone else was going to take over as starting LT, maybe Clint Boling (not entirely sure of the specific player he said). Well wouldn’t you know it, that first game came and the starting LT was the young man Chip told us it would be…NOT the guy Low said. There have been plenty of other blatant misreportings by Low in his blog, but this example is the one I’ll never forget. So as far as blogs go…Chip Towers beats the heck out of Chris Low everyday of the week in factual coverage of the Dawgs and SEC football. Low is a moron, plain and simple.

Low is an idiot. Biggest chance for an upset for UGA is the opener. OSU will be ready.

Chris Low- There is no “e” on the end of his name for good reason. He had never written positively about the Dawgs and he seemed to always be wrong in my mind. He is your typical antiUGA writer with ESPN. I stopped reading ESPN last year and he was included in the reason. This jerk never backs up his writing with fact and sort of stumbles around looking for a weird reason for writing something of not much interest to anyone. If he was SEC-knowledgeable he would not have picked Petrino. I’m glad we aren’t playing Ole Miss and Nutt this year. They are the ones who are going to upset teams.

LISTEN UP GUYS. I’M FROM SOUTH LOUISIANA SO THAT MAKES ME A DIE HARD LSU FAN. BUT I HAVE ALWAYS PULLED FOR GEORGIA TO WELL. I’D PREFER THEM OVER ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE SEC EAST. THEY WILL GOOD NEXT YEAR, NAYBE NOT AT FIRST, BUT THEY WILL PICK UP AS THEY GO. I WISH ALL YOU GEARGIA BOYS LUCK THIS COMKING SEASON, AND NO HARD FELINGS ABOUT OUR LOSS TO YOU LAST GAME! ONE MORE THING TELL THEM FLORIDA BOYS, THEM ARKANSAS BOYS, AND ESPICALLY THEM BAMA BOYS…THE TIGERS GONNA GET EM THIS TIME!

Dawgs will lose to Oklahoma State( by a TD), LSU( in a BLOWOUT), Florida( in a closer game than people will think),and Auburn( in an upset at home). They will beat South Carolina,Arkansas, Arizona State, Tennessee, Vandy,Tennessee Tech, and Kentucky. Ga. Tech is a toss up game for me. Part of the reason UGA lost to the Jackets last year was because their bubble had been burst after the Florida blow out and the players played uninspired football from then on. But if the Dawgs have 4 losses by this point, they may play harder versus Tech this year. On paper though, I’d have to give the edge to Tech again. So I’ll be conservative ( always a safe bet when it comes to UGA football) and say they’ll lose to Tech and then be surprised if they win. So I think they’ll finish 8-5 or 9-4 overall for 2009.

I read Chris Lowe’s crap the other day and just laughed. The only game I am worried about right now is Oklahoma State. We should do just fine. Joe Cox has proven that he is a VERY CAPABLE QB.

@Zoomie: Complete lack of imagination. If we had to go 1-11, I’d much rather that one win be against a previously unbeaten and #1 Florida in a game that knocks them out of the BCS race. “With your ugly orange shirts and your ugly blue britches …” you know the rest.

CHIRS LOW IS STUPID. Arkansas doesn’t have a great team. Joe Cox will win that game. Chris low is the dumbest person in the world to pick that game an upset. To all of the cowboys, gators, tigers and the jackets out there. You guys a messing with the wrong bulldog team. The GEORGIA BULLDOGS ARE GOING 12-2 THIS YEAR WITH A SUGAR BOWL VICTORY ! BAYOUBOY…it’s bad enough that you’re proving you’re a typical illiterate LSU fan. But you need to hop on your pirogue and find an SEC schedule somewhere. Georgia doesn’t play them Bama Boys this year. Don’t worry…you don’t show your jilted lover obsession with Saban by bringing Bama into a story about UGA.
