Yard sign theft revisited

A few weeks ago, Atlantan Cynthia Gentry wrote on our Opinion pages about the theft of her political yard sign, without identifying the candidate of her choice. She sparked a spirited conversation on our Atlanta Forward blog when we posted the column.  This morning, she wrote to us again, reporting that her sign  was stolen again last night.  She replaced it with the sign pictured here. What do you think?yard sign

Schoolmarm,

How many ‘Obama 2012′ signs have you stolen to wallpaper your bedroom?

By the way, Barry & Michelle have no class. They are little more than common grifters on the taxpayers’ dime.

if the creeps stealing signs and thowing dog poo (and defending those actions here) are an indication of how romney supporters act, then they just made up my mind for me.

i have class = i vote for politicians with class = plus one vote for obama.

thanks for making it easy for me, romney supporters!

Hmmm… well, HG, I don’t spin in public – except verbally on occasion. And, self-righteous? Yeah, I do have a tendency to feel a little superior to creeps who drive by my house screaming obscenities, throw dog excrement in my yard, and come onto my property and rip me off. Wouldn’t you? unless…..

The yard signs have been replaced, so let’s see what the night brings. I should mention that every single Obama yard sign on our street was stolen last night. Given all of the times that dog “poop” has been thrown at the sign I doubt that they were stolen by Obama supporters.

I am saddened and angered by the racist comments above and hope they will be removed. One would hope people that have evolved beyond such backwards thinking….well, we can dream, can’t we?

Stealing signs and attacking speech is wrong. I don’t support either side reaching for such tactics and find it shameful that someone would steal a yard sign.

My Romney/Ryan sign has been stolen out of my yard several times now. I see nothing wrong with the sign that she put up it however, does assume that it is a different political party supporter stealing it which may not be true

Hmm. Attach the sign to fishing string and a balanced container of fecal matter overhead. Doubt whoever is stealing the sign is hanging around long enough to do recon, just walking by and grabbing. Could rig a camera to watch the sign as well – if only for the pleasure of selling the footage of the thief getting the runs.

Children learn when everytime that a sign is put in the yard it is stolen that they should be placed somewhere else, or for the more deep thinking children, the price for free speech does not come cheap. That everything has to be paid for including freedom, that brave people have to stand up for what is right even if it is something as simple as placing a sign in ones own yard.

I use to rip up yard signs while running through the neighborhood simply because I hate yard signs. They have no place in a residential neighborhood, Period.
