3/9: Nuclear reactors project

Moderated by Tom Sabulis

A controversial project has two nuclear reactors being constructed at Georgia Power’s Plant Vogtle.

A watchdog group argues that complicit state officials enabled the cost to be borne on the backs of consumers, with little risk to the company or stockholders. He also says the new nukes allow the utility to sell excess power out of state.

Georgia Power refutes that, adding that the new plants and their construction financing will save consumers billions over time while creating up to 25,000 jobs.

“a watchdog group…”
I don’t remember voting for a watchdog group to represent me, do you? Why would the AJC quote from an unnamed and unelected group? Because they are liberal and the AJC always elevates liberals to status of Someone-Whose-Opinions-Matter. Disgusting leftist journalism. It is kind of like their reporting on Cindy Sheehan, Peace Mom. When Bush was president, Cindy Sheehan’s antics were reported on daily as though she was Someone-Whose-Opinoins-Mattered. Once Obama became President, Cindy Sheehan dropped from the news instantly. She did not stop protesting war, but she was no longer treated like Someone-Whose-Opinion-Matter. Disgusting leftist journalism from the AJC. Cynthia Tucker may be long gone, but her gang of leftist imposter journalists remain.

New nuclear means jobs and clean energy for Georgia. It’s all good. These so-called watchdog groups are against everything. They don’t want new roads or new schools. They don’t want us to use water. They don’t want us to create jobs. They don’t want us to progress as a society. Ask them what they DO WANT and it’s always the impossible. Get a life.

They make it sound like 25,000 new individuals will find positions. Opportunities will be created by private companies that just happen to use electricity. To say the plant will create those positions is ridiculous.

Who really thinks they will create 25,000 jobs? Jobs will be created by private companies that just happen to use electricity. To say the plant will create those jobs is ridiculous.

Who really thinks they will create 25,000 jobs? The article states that there will be 800 permanent jobs at the plant. The rest will most likely be jobs created by private companies that just happen to use electricity. To say the plant will create those jobs is ridiculous.

I agree that Nuclear Power is the way to go, but who really thinks they will create 25,000 jobs. I mean let’s get real the article states that there will be 800 permanent jobs at the plant. The rest will be jobs created by private companies that just happen to use electricity. To say the plant will create those jobs is ridiculous.

While I agree that Nuclear Power is the way to go I wonder why the AJC does not hold GA Power accountable for the statement that they will create 25,000 jobs. I mean let’s get real the article states that there will be 800 permanent jobs at the plant. The rest will be jobs created by private companies that just happen to use electricity. To say the plant will create those jobs is ridiculous.

not sure what everyone is up in arms about. nuclear power is the next step towards sustainable green energy. yes, its expensive, but how much has been given to green companies lately only to see them fail? those costs are borne by taxpayers as well, and we dont get anything to show for it other than billions in lost taxpayer dollars and big bonuses to incompetent executives, not to mention the millions of dollars put in politician reelection coffers.

we need the bridge to a green energy future, and nuclear power is that bridge whether we like it or not.
