What’s in a name? A great deal if you’re the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. The Southern Baptist Convention is considering a name change, though “Baptist” likely will remain intact.
Today, a northwest Georgia missionary says change isn’t necessary.
But an associate pastor from Tennessee suggests otherwise.

Reflection is good for the soul. Maybe the SBC needs to consider why their name is so negative–why do they have this stereotype that “gets in their way” of their mission work?

All of the negative comments about the Baptist church falls right in line with all the negative comments about born again Christians throughout the USA. Judges are trying their best to be politically correct by pushing God out of everything. Baptist try to follow the Word of God and if that bothers others then so be it.The answer to every problem in the US is Jesus Christ.

Why is this an “Atlanta Forward” topic?
Most media outlets (but not the AJC) in Atlanta have picked on Deal putting $15mil in the budget to buy land for the Falcons new stadium. There’s a topic for you.

I was going to suggest “Whackjobs R Us” but I like ByteMe’s idea more.

Changing its name should be among the lowest priorities of the Southern Baptist Convention. Its name is not the issue. For years, the SBC has chosen to separate itself from major segments of people by judging them and then condemning them. It has grown far away from the church I knew as a child and now as an adult. I hope that it can recover the position, influence, and impact that it once had on the lives of so many.

The “God Hates the Same People We Do Convention” seems like too much of a mouthful.
