11/17: Drug tests for welfare recipients?

Moderated by Rick Badie

State Sen. John Albers of Roswell plans to propose a bill during the 2012 General Assembly that would require welfare recipients to take drug tests. The reason? To prevent abuse of taxpayer money and to reduce the entitlement mentality, he says.

Today, Albers explains his legislation, while the Georgia leader of the American Civil Liberties Union questions this premise.

Of course drug testing is a good idea. Does anybody care about the future of the coming (welfare) generations? We can stop the cycle or at least most of it if we start (testing) (at least) the new applicants or even anyone with birthdate starting @2000. We can’t keep holding people down from their full potential by handing them free money. It makes them weak – who would try hard if you can finagle and scheme to live years off the government? I work with people on gov’t assistance, they do not know how to properly use this assistance nor care to get off and try to make a living on their own. They work part-time, don’t volunteer for extra hours, NEVER bring a packed lunch, the younger ones smoke pot and get new tatoos on payday. They can because their other bills are handled by the us govt. And I don’t know if they are happy – isn’t that the goal? Quit handing people money! And do some investigating – you people in your ivory towers – you’re hurting the people you are trying to help! I care and I hope the newborns of today have a chance at life without gov’t handouts if we make it more difficult. Now they have improved education possibilities and we could assist in helping with education and careers so they can have quality of life not watching trash tv all day and checking the mailbox. No wonder they do drugs – it’s boring. And making babies which drag them down even further. Life on the dole has to be such a downer and these people don’t realize what good lives they could be having. If it were extremely hard to get assistance they would try harder to make it on their own. It may be too late for the adults of today but consider change for future generations. Drug testing – yes.

DGator why not figure out some birth control for the men on welfare? Its just to a woman thing. I think this drug testing plan is a good start. castration for those on welfare that keep having children is the next step.
