Atlanta Falcons Look Bad, Sloppy in Titans Loss

Team Gives Fans a Reason to Pause the Optimism

This Sums it Up Pretty Well (AJC)

It’s only preseason. As fellow Cager Big Ray said, “say it out loud, listen to yourself very carefully, and repeat several times.” After all, the Patriots just got destroyed by the Lions 40-9. Mike Smith and Co. intentionally used vanilla gameplans to not show anything to our future opponents. OK, so now that we’ve gotten the rationalization out of the way, let’s look at the ugly fact: the Falcons stunk in almost every facet of the all-important 3rd game. The offensive line was atrocious, the offense was terrible in the redzone, the defense made Jake Locker and Ryan Fitzpatrick look like Brady and Manning, and the young rookie corners were officially baptized to the NFL in a pretty ugly manner. Mike Smith and the Falcons obviously get the benefit of the doubt due to their immense record and winning records since he’s been coach, but that was one ugly display after the first quarter or so and fans …

Atlanta Falcons Look Good Early @ Ravens

Depth Still a Concern, Much Better Effort

Much More Like It #39 (AJC)

After looking so poor in their first preseason game, the Falcons reminded fans why they’ve been one of the best franchises in the NFL the last five years, at least early on. Both the first team offenses and defenses looked as though they were getting closer to regular season form, save a few hiccups. The men from Atlanta stormed out to a big lead against the defending Super Bowl champions in their house before the 2nd and 3rd string teams gave away a huge lead that led to the loss. As the preseason is on the downslope to a close, fans are feeling less and less worry and more and more optimism as the regular season is less than 3 weeks away. A look at the game in Baltimore………..

Ryan Close to Stride

JJ Back to Normal (AJC)

For those worried that new contract might give the Falcons franchise QB a chance to coast on his huge new deal, the preseason are putting those concerns quickly to rest. Sure it’s only …

2013 Atlanta Falcons Predictions (Guest Post Pt. 2)

Part 2 from Cage Member Anthony Scott Cooper (Coop)

Ugly First Game (AJC)

7. Sunday, Oct 20th vs. Tampa Bay 1:00 pm

Following the SNF, MNF, BYE, it will be nice for the fans to get back to a regular ol’ Sunday afternoon game. Further, after 3 straight AFC East games, the Falcons gear up for an NFC South foe looking to rebound after a couple of down years. Some think this could be Josh Freeman’s make it or break year, but with the coaching changes a year ago and all the upgrades to the D in this offseason, I think he’ll get at least one more year if they don’t improve greatly this year. Make no mistake, Freeman is a talented physical QB, but he hasn’t had the coaching, preparation, and supporting cast to hang with one Matty Ice.

The Bucs almost conceded that in the offseason by bringing in CBs and Safeties to help defend against MR2, Drew Brees, and company. Passing for the Falcons will be more challenging than most games, but after watching JJ11 torch San Francisco in the …

2013 Atlanta Falcons Schedule Breakdown (Guest Post)

Schedule Breakdown and Predictions to Bye Week
Guest Post – Anthony Scott Cooper (Coop)

Trick Play Perhaps? (AJC)

First, let me say thanks for this opportunity to guest write for my esteemed colleague formerly of Clayton County. As a fellow alumni of Jonesboro High School (shout out HD83), I can only say things have gone downhill.

Breaking it DOWN!

So, it’s my privilege to break down the 2013 schedule, one of my favorite parts of the season. Evaluating every team that we’ll play is fun, but before that, let’s look at some interesting facts about the schedule.

1. The Falcons play 5 nationally televised games this year. The most I can ever remember and though I couldn’t confirm, I’m willing to bet the most in franchise history. They will play two Monday Night Football (MNF) games against the Jets on Oct 7th and in San Francisco on Dec 23rd. They also scored two Sunday Night Football (SNF) games against the Patriots on Sep 4th and at the Packers on Dec 14th. Finally, they …
